Linux mining distro for the Raspberry PI - MinePeon

Hi Neil,

my cgminer on MinePeon 0.2.1 has stopped, and I can't get it running again. sudo screen -r just results in "There is no screen to be resumed". I've also tried sudo systemctl start cgminer.service and nothing happens. How can I restart my miner?

Sometimes I find it faster, especially when you are down, to just re-flash the SD, put in your pool settings and go. Time is money.

Anyone have details about a source where you can get RPi/accessories for BTC?
I asked this before - but I'm in no hurry this time - so pretty much any information would be good

I'm probably gonna be selling my Adafruit "PiMiner Bitcoin mining machine" LCD attachment as soon as it's soldered together...    I'm pretty sure I'm gonna like the USB LCD display better. haha

BTW, still working on an installation tutorial for the USB LCD cgminer script. I'll hopefully do that today. I know some of y'all were having trouble getting Python and pyUSB set up, so writing up the installation steps is my next goal.

The code as been cleaned up for the most part. It's working well, but there's still a known issue with showing the correct pool in certain cases. Planning to fix that code today as well.

I've got the adafruit LCD kit laying here. Just need to find the time to solder it up and test it...

Someone mentioned to me in IRC that it uses a lot of CPU with python on it ...

I've always thought a USB display sounded like a good idea ... then someone posted about one here and I bought it that day
I like also being able to place the display wherever I like ...
No doubt if some other such USB displays are found (cheap also) people will write scripts to use them.

I'm not too sure about the ideas of what else to do with an RPi when it is mining - i.e. get it those items required (a hub, a USB display) and that'll do IMO
... and I'm not sure why it wouldn't always be mining

There's a TON of stuff to do with a Pi when it's not mining Check out the Adafruit site sometime. My next project with the Pi is gonna be a portable, battery powered time lapse photography setup using the Pi camera attachment. Then on to a sound and motion sensor shutter trigger for my DSLR…

I'd get a Rasberry Pi but I'd feel it's not worth the investment as I can't figure out a use for it outside of a mining host, I only want a host to use at night when I'm not on my PC.

Yeah I know, but I mean if it's mining, then that's really all it should be doing and a big part of the reason is coz they are indeed quite cheap and certainly work well mining.

However, yes that's why I got a second one
I have a Noontec V8s connected to my main TV for playing media on my network - but my anime interest means that subtitles are a must - and the Noontec seems to get it right most of the time but not always.
I end up using PMS on my desktop and watch stuff using a PS3 but that also takes some power from my desktop (and sometimes doesn't get it right also)
On my desktop I use mplayer which of course is perfect with the ass subtitles so I usually end up watching most anime on my desktop
I've always wanted to use mplayer to the main TV - so yeah I'll try using the (2nd) RPi as the media player and see how well that works

... and for now (when it finally gets here) I can use it to avoid having to switch between Raspbian and Arch every time I need to test something on both - but the media player will run Raspbian so no switching required at all.

I have tested 2 months,i don't find what's wrong with units or pi.
in < 2 days,units and pi , ok.

I think we still don't understand your problem.

Was the Pi with all things attached running without problems for 2 months? Now it doesn't run for more than 2 days? What does it do after 2 days? Restart? Freeze? Starts smoking?

In 2 months,i notic that the pi runing not more 2 days,fpgas must reboot(power down then power on),it may be not pi's issue.

More towards smartphones etc nothing really detailed, stuff like the basic miner details etc. More for those who's PC is either being used or something along them lines, or even if they just can't be bothered to turn the PC on.

EDIT: Another suggestion (Which might be in the works) is having a set of graphs for the RPi information. Maybe have a seperate tab for it, as I sure that a fair few people would like to know what/how their RPi's are handling it.

I have taken some of the set form the MPBM Setup Guide for the X6500

One.
Create a udev file for the X6500 by creating a new file at /etc/udev/rules.d/90-x6500.rules containing:

SUBSYSTEM=="usb", ATTR{idVendor}=="0403", ATTR{idProduct}=="6001", MODE="0660", GROUP="minepeon"

Two.
Create a blacklist for the ftdi_sio module by adding blacklist ftdi_sio to the last line of /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf.

Three.
Reboot

a simple ./bfgminer -S X6500:all will get them mining.

At he moment the WebUI is getting a lot of attention, AngularJS (http://angularjs.org/) is being introduced as a proper application frame work and it has mobile extensions.

Backups and restores are also coming up in the next versions as well as better process management of the miners.

Well ... the crappy clone uses the ftdi_sio module for all BFL, Lacelot, Cairnsmore and Avalon products ...

That seems like some weird workaround, stopping support for those other devices ... or does the clone not handle USB correctly?

Of course it will have no negative effect on cgminer
Aside: of course cgminer has no x6500 support.

So ...
