Sooo getting back to the kinda Important issue of boards frying. Could those of you with units hashing state what version of firmware are you using and if you encountered any issues. It seems to be v0.92 is the problem. What about v.93??. I think ill stay on v.90 for the moment eventhough it draws a lot more power
I'm using 0.91. 0.90 power consumption is way to high. there's risk to fuse your PSU (if you have 850W). using .92/.93 lead to very frequent cgminer restart. something like a restart every 30-50secs.

Old Style Legacy Plug & Play BBS System. Get it from www.synchro.net. Updated 1/1/2021. It also works with Windows 10 and likely 11 and allows 16 bit DOS game doors on the same Win 10 Machine in Multi-Node! Five Minute Install! Look it over it uninstalls just as fast, if you simply want to look it over. Freeware! Full BBS System! It is a frigging hoot!:)

Just so you know, my day1 order status changed from "in progress" to "shipped" even though it's a local pickup and I didn't received any email informing me that my units were ready for pickup. My heart skipped a beat when I saw it. Turns out that misleading "shipped" status only means they are out of the factory and I should expect to pick them up soon.

After 'paid' next status is 'In progress' and this status may last for a week without any progress at all (like in my case). Then it seems to be status 'shipped' for another few days.
Each day you wonder, do I get a tracking-Id today? - at the end of the day you realize you have to wait at least one more day, and another day and so on....seems to be a never ending story.
Customer satisfaction is something else for sure.

no the heat sink fans are good.
The problem is the other components on the board itself that need that heat ventilated.
The air moving in and out of the case is not cutting it. So I will swap out those 2 fans with 2 avalon type fans and put them at full speed.
Do what you will, but there are plenty of people running 2,3 or 10+ units with the stock fans. I think swapping fans at this point is just making changes for the sake of changes, similar to putting it in a colder room or warmer room or increasing the power supply. It's not going to make a difference. Actually my hashing has gone up from 500 to 535 just opening up the case and putting on the fan.

How big are the case fans, 120mm, 140mm ? How are they powered, 3/4 pins motherboard connector ? 4 pins power supply connector ?

I am going to swap the 140mm fans with 120mm high cfm fans. And so far you can read my review if you wish to follow the updates. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=306969.0

Found that they are Arctic F14 140mm. 77.3 CFM / 131.4 m3/h And 3 pin motherboard connector. I am going to swap the 140mm fans with 120mm high cfm fans. And so far you can read my review if you wish to follow the updates. Wiil do.

I dont think replacing those artic cooler fans is going to do anything for preventing those caps or VRMs from burning out. Maybe adding or reorienting case fans may help if those components are overheating (are they?)

I was thinking to replace them by some BitFenix Spectre PRO PWM 140 mm : http://www.bitfenix.com/global/en/products/accessories/spectre-pro-pwm#specsAir Flow (CFM) 122.2 CFM Noise (dB-A) 29.2 dB(A)

My point is that the asics themselves may be adequately cooled, so upgrading those fans wont help. But the VRMs may be overheating. On 5870 videocards it was also a lot more tricky to keep VRM temps under control than the GPU itself. Pointing a fan on them or gluing some heatsinks on them may help.
ANyway, that is if this is a heat problem, it could be overcurrent too. Can someone with a KNC measure the temperatures of those VRMs? Or carefully feel with your finger?

Heat rises. For those who plan to keep the lid on, perhaps tilt the end of the miner up 20 degrees and allow the heat to rise and flow out the back more naturually.

I'm wondering. Assuming you add/change fans ..then your rig fries or otherwise breaks. Won't you have invalidated the warranty ?

Air moves where you push it. It's better to keep the lid for the coordinated airflow.

At this time with the default fans and the case lid on. Almost no air moves out the back. I could not even put out a candle with the lack of air movement. I would not run these units with that level of ventilation. I use the Avalon type fans to move the air on my Bitfury Kit setup as well. Also consider that my ambient temp is under 63 degrees fahrenheit. The only cooling that is happening at this time from what I can see is the processor itself. Everything else is just sitting in hot air. If I had to contend with any ambient temp over 75 degrees fahrenheit, then I would expect these units to fail. P.S. I have upgraded the firmware from v0.92 to v0.93
