Last couple of days have been pretty good for p2pool I think.

Its committed into his repo so its safe

Some very important optimization changes have been made! It could reduce the block orphan rate from current 5%-15% to <1% (ideally).

https://github.com/forrestv/p2pool/commits/master

Everyone, please go update NOW!

Devs, please force this upgrade by splitting the chain, people will not update voluntarily Sad

Not to be a dick and all.. But why is not forrestv announcing this? The (main? only?) developer, you know? I am somewhat careful with code from the Bitcoin universe, where wallets are involved and stuff. "Prattler" has a low postcount, shouts, makes large promises and makes it totally urgent with the possibility to lose (forked) Bitcoin if one is not to react immediately.

I am sure there is an easy explanation to this, but still my eyebrow stays raised until I hear more. Forrestv is logged in, too, actually.

It's not like Prattler is providing his own download link.  He is linking to forrest's repo on github.  Only forrest can commit to that and so you have no need to be a dick Smiley

Also, please reply UNDER the quote. Not above it.  We all read top to bottom.

To mine namecoin you need setup a namecoin node.
On windows:
- download namecoin GUI and namecoind
- run GUI, setup RPC user/pass
- run namecoind:
namecoind.exe -daemon -rpcport=8336
- run p2pool w/option:
run_p2pool.exe --merged http://user:pass@127.0.0.1:8336/

Look for "Got new merged mining work!" in p2pool log.

This will use your mining power to mine namecoins too.

I found very useful tool: RBTray. It allows to minimize any window to tray, works on win7 64bit too Smiley

And in emails you can assume the recipient has read all of the previous emails and so knows what you are talking about.  Here, there are multiple conversations going on and it's nice to know which one you are talking to before I read your comments, not after.

Look at every other quote on this page or even this thread.  The only one with the response before the quote is you. The vast majority of users don't do it backwards like you.

Back on topic:

Is there any hope that the new code changes will get the long term luck above 90%?  I really like the idea of p2pool, but getting effectively 90% PPS is disappointing. I don't think the pay cut is worth it until the large pools actually start disrupting the network and it seems like claims of Deepbit's evil intentions and such are purely FUD (at least at this point in time).

I hope so. Actually informing nodes about new block on network should reduce orphaned blocks (we have them too many...). I set my miner to switch pool/solo and see many times that "new block detected on network before longpool" message. After this update I never see it Smiley
About DDOS on pools: why ppl are not switching to p2pool? I cant imagine that any1 will try kill all nodes at once, this is only true safe pool.
Only hope that we will go up to 100% Smiley

BTW:  I found that "compiled" 64bit exe works better (less resources, memory, threads etc) than running pool from sources on "real" Python. Feel free to download from my Skydrive till ForrestV make "own" compilation. I`m too lazy to compile correctly litecoin part... Tongue
Link do my bitcoin related files: http://sdrv.ms/NtmDt5
I`ll be posting fresh versions when updated sources will be available.
Update your nodes ppl!

Man, you have over 10% local DOA, something is messed in miner config... I have about 1-2%

But I didn't think that orphaned blocks affected the luck calculation.  I don't see how this will help our luck.
