I was wondering too about the lowering of the total network hashrate !

Anyone knows what is happening ? I'm really surprised about this...

Well, based on what i've read on the forums here, Avalon has stopped using customer's rigs for mining. Also, i saw that, i think it is BFL is playing with a 500 Gh/s rig, no sure how much difference that makes.

Well that's just obnoxious...  I may be wrong here but from what I understand, the difficulty jumps as a method of keeping found blocks at about 10 minutes apart. The higher the network hashrate, the quicker the blocks are found (at any single given difficulty).  So the network hashrate being around 125,000-140,000 caused the difficulty to jump significantly in attempt to reduce block frequency and then whatever\whoever accounted for the 15,000-30,000 drops out and we are left with too high of a difficulty for the current hashrate.  Hence the find rate is about 12.5 minutes right now according to blockchain.info.   I know network hashrate with grow again, maybe naturally or maybe when that 15,000-25,000 come back but it really screws with the rest of us.  I would hope there would be some level of self-imposed responsibility when people have enough hashing power at their disposal to significantly affect the entire network...  Then again, I'm not too surprised that hope is in vain.

Whatever, I'll keep plugging away with my 1.5GH/s and continue to catch the scraps off the table of the huge miners.

It's possible and even likely the lowered hash rate is caused by cpu/gpu miners giving up.

throw in my 2 cents here, bitminter is under heavy ddos attack for several days now, and I know slush had a problem about a month ago.  Wonder who is behind all these ddos attacks, seems worse lately

People try to create panic and drop BTC price so they can buy. I really wish the community would catch on to this.  Embarrassed

15,000 GH/s is ALOT of GPU miners and and even bigger number of CPU miners. For them ALL to coincidentally go offline within a few days of each other is unlikely, in my opinion.  Using Occam's razor, I am forced to lean towards the fluctuation being caused by a major producer of Hashing equipment. But who really knows... that's the wonderment of the BTC ecosystem

The community is fully aware of this - but what can you do when someone is hammering your website with 10's of thousands of requests per hour...

BTCguild is under attack too. Huh  don't people have better things to do with their time? I guess when it comes to money there will always be people who try to play the system. Sad

If the block rate can keep at 12.5 min for long enough time, difficulty shall drop significantly at the end of the period. That would be good, wouldn't it? Smiley

btw I wonder if this explains recent pool hashrate fluctiations - they're testing a 500GH/s one ... and actually you can see many of their test rigs as well:

I have a status page up for it.

http://kcmo2.gigamining.com/

Just remember conman is working on it so it will be up and down.

Wow!  Is that production line equipment, SMT's, Reflows, etc.. strictly Avalons, or is it photos from an existing mfg company they are leasing?
Impressive capabilities anyway you look at it.
