Anyone know why blockchain.info doesnt show the diff increase yet? maybe the block it changed in hasn't gotten to their display yet? they seem to be a few blocks behind usually. at least it looks that way to me.

Maybe your definition of hoppable is too specific. I successfully "hop" Slush from time to time (when I have the time to monitor things on a minute-by-minute basis), especially when the pool's luck is running under 100%. I define hoppable as:
Pool x is hoppable if there exists a scheme that allows you to switch between mining on pool x and some other pool y in some manner that nets you more by mining on the combination of x and y than straight mining on pool x alone would pay out if you were mining there full time.
My definition is similar. I define a pool as hoppable if there's some strategy a miner could use to intermittently mine in that pool such that he reduces the expected return of the other miners below what they would get if every miner stayed in the pool full time. That is, if the timing of other people's mining can reduce the expected return of a full-time miner, the pool is hoppable.

Okay, and what would that strategy be like? Only ever submit the first share in each round?

Is slush's even up right now? I'm unable to get a response from the DNS servers that serve bitcoin.cz so I can't check. (ns1.linode.com and ns2.linode.com), obviously my miners can't connect from here either.

It appears to me that everything at Slush is down. Website, all stratum servers, everything. EDIT: Stratum servers seem to have returned, or at least some of my miners have switched back to Slush from backup pools. Website and APIs still down.

It looks like it is just a DNS problem - my remote location had all the entries cached, and I was able to connect to everything from there... the DNS answers I got from there were as follows in case anyone needs to connect and i having the same DNS problems I am:
mining.bitcoin.cz : 54.215.3.109 stratum.bitcoin.cz: 54.215.3.101 api.bitcoin.cz: 176.31.157.132

Once again I'm having problems. I haven't been mining for a while, because I've been having so much trouble with the ATI drivers.
Now I have made myself even more trouble - because Windows 7 seemed to cause a lot of trouble, I installed XP instead. After all, it worked with XP and the ATI radeon 4850 on my other computer.
I began with making a ghost copy of the drive when Windows was installed, mainboard drivers installed and W. Update done. If something goes wrong now, it's easy to just reset it.
I put the 6770 in, to try to get that running to begin with. I installed the last version that supports both the 4850 and the 6770: Catalyst 12.4. It explicitly says on the page that the installer includes OpenCL support. But when I install it, it doesn't have a checkbox for that.
Anyway, I continue to install a Stream SDK that I find (There's no APP SDK for XP.) and it says that there's no compatible OpenCL driver on my system. I installed it anyway. Of course it didn't work. I found out that it was a too old version that didn't support the card. Lesson learned: take the time to READ...
Well well, I found a newer version: Stream SDK 2.2, that should support both this card and the 4850. BUT IT TOO SAID THAT THERE IS NO OPENCL DRIVER, or if it said OpenCL GPU, I don't remember, so it would only be possible to use it with an OpenCL compatible CPU.
That's where I am now. GUIMiner only have the CPU in the list of units.
Please help. Didn't I get the OpenCL driver in the 12.4 install package, or did the old Stream SDK screw something up? It feels pretty meaningless to reset from the ghost copy, only to get the same problem again if it is so that I didn't get the driver in the first place.

Not seeing anything wrong at all with the pool all day - check your network, give your miners a bounce...

It's some sort of a DNS issue. If you're connected, you'll probably stay connected OK. I automatically restart all my miners every four hours and they switched over to a backup pool after the last restart because stratum.bitcoin.cz isn't resolving. My Raspberry Pi system is set up to load balance between four different pools including Slush's pool, so it's now just sending work to the other three. EDIT: Added some direct IPs into my hosts file on the Win-7 boxes so they're now sending work to: 54.215.3.101 ip.slush.com

I recommend using the Catalyst v11.11. It's the fastest driver package and should support the 6770. OpenCL APP already included. No need for a SDK package.

hope this is the right place for this. am trying to setup a solo mining pool with slush server, bitcoind, with 3 avalons connected to a secondary router within a LAN behind a primary router. slush server was running fine when i went away for a few days. came back to a shutdown. this came up when i went to restart: cypher@server:~$ bitcoind -blocknotify="/home/username/git/stratum-mining/scripts/blocknotify.sh --password x --host localhost --port 3333" -daemon cypher@server:~$ Bitcoin server starting : Error opening block database. Do you want to rebuild the block database now? y y: command not found
how do i respond to this? Run bitcoind with -reindex . That should fix it (it will take quite a while). Just don't forget to take that flag off the next time you start up. Just some advice...while it's novel to try solo mining and everybody should at least try it out once, you may want to reconsider. At today's difficulties, 3 avalons is going to have some massive variance. You're only expected ~1.2 blocks per week assuming 200 GH/s. It is not unheard of to have a block take 8 to 10 times the expected amount, during which time difficulty will only climb higher, further reducing your expected time. Of course, you could easily get lucky and end up making a lot more .

Quick question -- I am using phoenix 2 which I got working properly yesterday. However it seems unable to connect on the stratum URL, and always goes back to the api2 URL as "backup", but the "my account" page hasn't shown any change in the past day despite the miner running at ~950 Mhash/h for the past 15 hours or so... is this normal?
