I'm fairly new to mining etc so can someone explain to me:

- why do GPU enthousiast always complain they would love to mine coins but can't because of asics, if the aim is to get hold of some coins, why spend money on a rack of GPU's and mine for months in a row instead of just buying loads of coins for the same amount of money ? is it really all about the joy of mining with a GPU, as in a hobby-thing ?
- why are asics considered a risk for centralisation, if a GPU only pool would have the majority of hashrate, isn't that just the same risk for centralization ?

So, you confirm that the change of algo will happen not because you would like to fight ASICs, but because you are creating the most robust, secure, energy efficient and decentralized blockchain. Later on the BitMain is welcome to develop a new ASIC for Dero because it's inevitable. “The emergence of specialized mining machine for a cryptocurrency is normal market economy phenomenon.[…] If there are professional mining machines, the events like ‘Monero was attacked by more than 500,000 botnets’ could be avoided,” referring to botnets that have been used to mine Monero.” - said some Monero [Monero-Classic] enthusiasts from Singapore.

Wow, that is some seriously f'ed up (il)logic - botnets mining Monero weren't the fault of a lack of ASICs, it was from lax/nonexistent network security procedures at server farms and such. After all, it practically takes root level access for a mining program to work, so a bunch of sysadmins were asleep at the switch... literally.

As I have stated many times before, the problem with ASICs isn't the hardware, it's the behavior of the companies that make them (ALL of the companies; not just Bitmain). The most egregious is stealth mining with their ASICs before selling them to the public because they've developed faster versions or else have been found out (as was the case with the Cryptonight ASICS). How else could 3 different companies announce Cryptonight ASICs for sale within days of each other?  Roll Eyes

The DERO dev(s) haven't always been terribly verbose with their posts, but they have more or less delivered on every goal so far - and then some - so I am inclined to continue giving them the benefit of the doubt. In contrast, you seem to have a bit of a chip on your shoulder for some reason.

1. ASICs are single-purpose computing devices while GPUs/CPUs are general purpose computing devices; when ASICs are developed for an algo they tend to deliver orders of magnitude greater hashrate, instantly rendering GPUs/CPUs obsolete.

Furthermore, most coins employ a difficulty adjustment algorithm of some sort that makes it harder to earn each coin as network (total) hashrate goes up; this implicitly assumes that the price of the coin has gone up a similar amount, however; when ASICs show up they result in a rapid increase the network hashrate - often by 100x or more - but the coin is still at the same point in its development path; ergo, difficulty goes up a huge amount while price changes relatively little. In DERO's case the coin price actually went up by ~10x - which, frankly, surprised the hell out of me - but network hashrate has gone up over 100x; i.e. - difficulty is 10x higher than it should be for the price of the coin.

As for whether you should mine a coin or buy it, well, that comes down to capital flexibility - when you buy a coin you can't do anything else with that money; when you buy a GPU, however, you can mine all sorts of different coins with it. In fact, it was possible to sell GPUs purchased at nearly any time in 2017 for a *profit* during the first couple of months of 2018, even if they were heavily used for mining; that pretty much never happens with ASICs, because their profitability drops from the moment they are switched on.

2. Mining pools can, indeed, lead to centralization, so you've correctly identified that issue. ASICs are a different cause of centralization in that companies like Bitmain can opt to hold back many of the ASICs they developed for an algo to continue mining coins with them. That is to say they could - and arguably should - use some fraction of their hardware to mine for themselves rather than sell to the public.

If Dero changes to ASIC, Miners will be reduced
I think that PoW is attractive as many miners gathered.

It is necessary to change the coin system according to the trend at that time.
Start from Copy of Monero, change to golang(new language), move to Dero-atlantis(new blockchain), and they are doing it in about half a year.
Because Dero is very powerful, they can do many things.
Even if the trend changes, they will make good ones.

So it's come to my attention that people feel we've missed our schedule or pushed it back for Atlantis.

We are still on track to launch on day #45

The monthly update #2 came 30 days after the first one and said 15 days 🙂

No worries, nothing has changed!

What date is "day 45"?  If you count April 20+45 days that would be about June 5th.  So you're committing to that now?  And for the full release, not some kind of alpha.

A little skepticism is always prudent in crypto, but you seem to be taking this awfully personally. What are you going to do if DERO does a beta release on June 10th? Point on the sexual molestation doll where DERO hurt you?  Roll Eyes

Sorry for a noob question

Can anyone assist? I sent 301 Dero to my Father.

I sent them from my stocks exchange wallet to his stocks exchange wallet

processed fine, however they never showed in his wallet and still don't show

Stocks are useless at best with their responses.

I can see the transaction ID

Just trying to get some actual facts here.  Is that a problem, fanboi?

If you notice, the Dero lead has seen my question and chose not to respond.  Instead he "lol"ed your stupid comment.  Says a lot for this project.

I'll ask again:  When is the full Atlantis release going to be live (the full release, not an alpha or even a beta)?  Including posting of source code.

I'm not part of the DERO team.

Monthly Update posted May 22, 2018.  In the last update the lead dev stated that "in another 15 days Atlantis will be released for alpha-tests and Hopefully before next monthly update we would be on Atlantis."

Code will not likely be released until (1) they complete the incorporation process, and (2) Atlantis testing has been completed.  Why release test code?

I don't believe that DERO (as a whole) will be out of alpha until smart contracts are implemented.  I believe there is a difference between DERO Alpha and the Atlantis release.

Hope that helps.

There is no cryptonote-coin in which a smart contracts are implemented.
Many other coins are scheduled to be implemented.
They want to copy soon ?
Most coin bases are bytecoin, monero, karbo, digitalnote.
Dero may join it too.
Others are copies of it.
There are many coins, but the base is very few.
There are few coins that change the base significantly.

Can you please email them one more time and see if they can find any information on their end? If after about 72 hours you've had no luck let me know and I'll see if there is anything I can do. (Please note I am note responsible for the exchange, I'm just trying to help)

Hi Serena,

They have looked at it a couple of times, both times they say the transaction has been successful, which it has to some degree. I can't fault that logic

I can only assume its like a language barrier and they're not reading the full ticket or not fully understanding what I'm trying to get across

I'll wait for their response and then contact you back

The support ticket number is - 32419

Thanks for your time

We're getting the community involved with some marketing!

A lot of people weighed in with different ideas so we've started a thread (https://forum.dero.io/t/dero-marketing-and-awareness/611) specifically for people to provide ideas/feedback/proposals/etc. If you'd like to get involved with the Dero Project and help make a difference this is a great way to start !

We're going to let the community work together to build the structure of how this is going to work. There is a community donation fund being started and it's being matched 40% by our developers out of their personal funds (not premine).

For those who are curious the premine is still 100% intact
