ALWAYS BET ON iCE...

Since you like to bet, how about accepting mine?

I have 5 BTC that says HashFast will not ship a working miner containing Golden Nonce chips to even one customer in 2013.  (It has to be physical delivery.  Hosting doesn't count.)

Care to put up 5 BTC of your own against that?

I think I love you bogart.

I accepted Bogart's bet, on his conditions (ckolivas doesn't count) and even offered to double the stakes.

He has yet to respond.  I wonder why?

Your acceptance is acknowledged.  I didn't see your response at first since it came some days later and I don't frequent this thread.

No thanks on the doubled stakes.  I'd rather not tie up that much BTC.

Your bet may be rigged, as the icebeaker may in fact be the head of hashfast!! Watch out, he will ship one out just to win the bet.

Indeed there is risk involved.  I was not impressed with his waiting 5 days until new information was posted and then coming forth with "you're on."

But I already made the commitment when I first posted the proposal, so...

The problems with doubling down on the MPP are that:
1) there is and there will no guaranteed delivery time for the MPP
2) __important__ they will keep you in hostage with future promises of a better MPP in the future (August 2014?)

They only way to get something out of those bastards is to sue them. (first time in 4 months that i use such a word, but it was well deserved).

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:

...not to throw anymore fuel on the the fire, but... Is it possible that with Ciara assembling Babyjets without chips, that they will ship as is? Hashfast can then say that they shipped by their deadline and send out the chips later.  Does the TOS specify that the Babyjets have to be functioning?

I would love if they acted like that. (they won't)

the chips need to be soldered onto the board at the same time as the rest of the components are soldered onto the board.  since they're all surface mount it'd be almost impossible to solder on the chip AFTER the rest has been made.   Also, the dies on the chip are exposed to the elements, and connecting the cooling plate to it is a tricky job as the dies underneath are delicate and full contact of the thermal paste must be made perfectly between the dies and the coldplate.  It must be done by experienced people and not amateurs, where any wrong move while attaching the cooler could damage the dies.

in short, i really don't think its an option nor very likely that the rest of the system is shipped without the chips... for the same reason that hashfast gave up on the idea of selling 'chips' to people with the MPP... and decided to give whole modules instead.  simply because its way beyond the average user to install 'the chips'... but not difficult at all to install the modules (just power and usb connectors required)

i am assuming...   that ... the upgrade kit will be full modules as far as I'm ware.  also including the cooling system attached.   you will have to screw in the fans & radiator into your case, and screw the module (motherboard) into the floor of the case.   and connect up the power & usb.   thats about it.

When I spoke of "chips",  I should have said "28nm Golden Nonce ASICs".  What if they ship the case sans "28nm Golden Nonce ASICs" modules?

Does the TOS specify that the Babyjets have to be functioning?

One would hope so. Otherwise, they might as well just ship out lumps of coal with Hashfast stickers on them to satisfy whatever contractual terms they have set forth, and then ship a working product to customers at some future date.

I was just looking at the cgminer image posted by gateway a few days ago and the work utility value on that screen seems really high for 422GH/s.

I would expect 422GH/s to show WU at about 6K, not the ~11K that is shown.  From the other stats on the screen it appears that it had been hashing for at least 10 minutes, so that should have been enough time for WU to stabilize.

Am I missing something?

So we have the fastest Asic but it has major communication and heating problems or they would start shipping and have us download minor software updates later. Otherwise what is the hold up?

I asked this question weeks ago and Hashfast clearly responded that the installation requirements for the upgrade kit were a screwdriver and beer.  The latter optional.

Page back for a post from them that literally includes pictures of a screwdriver and a beer can.

So, yes, they are explicitly on record that drunk chimp would be able to install the upgrade kit.

Ah, here it is. I see it was Hashfast)CL:

I'm a batch one customer that has also ordered an upgrade kit, to fill that second slot on the Baby Jet.  Some information I would like to have concerns installation of the upgrade kit.  The news that the ASIC is on a board already is quite good but, more specifically, what's the upgrade procedure going to be like?  As in... what kind of tools or skills required?

I'm comfortable doing basic computer upgrades and maintenance - installing and replacing drives, fans, memory, etc.. - but haven't wielded a soldering iron in twenty years.  And wasn't very good at it when I did.  So I'm wondering if the upgrade will be something that can be accomplished with some screwdrivers and careful dis/reassembly, or something more involved?

Congratulations on your Batch One Baby Jet and Upgrade Kit.

You will find installing the second mini-board to be a quick and easy process.

The procedure is as simple as mounting the mini-board on case's risers, hooking up the second cooling unit, and swapping out the original PSU for the more powerful one.  Then connect the USB cable to the Raspberry Pi controller and you're done!

All you need is a screwdriver and a beer, as depicted below:

The beer is actually optional, but highly recommended.  You may also use a sonic screwdriver, if available in your galaxy and/or timeline!   Wink
