I have heard news that Lamassu https://lamassu.is/ is advertising that they can sell open-source (programmable) crypto-currency atms for any currency at $1800 a piece.
When Nem starts to get big it would cost less than 100k to have one atm in every u.s. state.

This is achievable, Dogecoin raised like 48k (correct?) to advertise in a nascar race.

This would be great for Nem infrastructure and publicity.

...Not even Bitcoin has an atm grid like that.

We should put something like this on fund.nemcoin.com.

Tell me what you think...

This is a VERY good idea!!

Every time im talking to someone outside of crypto, and they are not understanding that bitcoin is worth money, I say there are Bitcoin ATMs. Magically, they understand that it is worth money. Try it yourself. You can talk for hours about why it has value and get nowhere. BTC atm. POW! They believe it is worth money and want to know more.

We of course need NEM to be easily traded for fiat. This is the first step.

I know people will show up and say, "but we need to be thinking about circumventing fiat"

I agree with this. But first we need to circumvent BITCOIN!!!!!!

eNEMy of fiat

NEMesis - The Greek goddess of retribution and vengeance.

NEMESIS was the goddess of indignation against, and retribution for, evil deeds and undeserved good fortune. She was a personification of the resentment aroused in men by those who committed crimes with apparent impunity, or who had inordinate good fortune. Nemesis directed human affairs in such a way as to maintain equilibrium. Her name means she who distributes or deals out.

love the new pic on the homepage!!! Smiley

Thank you. Website and overall branding of NEM can certainly be improved much more but I think it is better to focus on passing the Alpha release milestone first, so that is a small change in the scenery Smiley

Yeah, the site looks good. Now the term harvesting is more suitable.

@xtester Hi I just bought Taleb's Antifragile and also bookmarked link to his notes. I always like Taleb and his empiricism learning. On the economics side my thought is that he belongs to Austrian school of Mises, Hayek etc. and his criticism of academic learning has roots in Hayek's criticism of socialism's central planing that top-down planning fail to capture grassroot knowledge spawn out of practice and experiences.

I think his criticism of Piketty is missing the point though. Taleb saw inequality as a results of the unbalance in pay-off from different type of labor and risk-taking but Piketty's point is more like on the contrast between pay-offs from capital and labor. So they don't really discuss about the same type of inequality.

Would you recommend Antifragile?

Also, do you have any personal theories on causes of inequality, or does it depend on the type of inequality and there are many causes?

Makoto and Utopian, here is an interesting essay on inequality. It is written by Paul Graham, one of the most important figures in the startup world.

P.S. He is a brilliant essay writer.

Tell me what you think after you read it.

I thought this was an interesting article:

http://www.analyticbridge.com/xn/detail/2004291:BlogPost:295873

I wonder what the NEW ECONOMY will look like.

Interesting article indeed. Though I think the problem is a bit more complex in practice.

Consider that if you would make 1$ every second, you would need 11,57 days to reach 1 million.
If you would make the same 1$ every second, which, as you can see is not bad at all, you would need 31,7 years to reach 1 billion.
Now, the same 1$ every second would take you to one trillion in 31709,79 years.

The idea is that beyond one million, in order to grow by orders of magnitude, in practice the problem becomes exceedingly to near impossibly complex.

The facts speak for themselves: as of 2014 there are only 1645 billionaires in a world of about 7 billion people and only 31 out of 1645 are under 40 years old.
So the wealthiest people in the world which account for about $6.4 trillion are 0.000001645% of the world population.

However I think one of the solutions to the problem may involve some necessary, though not sufficient characteristics like: measurement, leverage and a good deal of chance.

Again, here is probably one of the most substantive and concise essays I have read on the subject of making wealth. (Where the biggest part part of healthy inequality comes from.)

Feel free to express some opinions.

I agree with this. But first we need to circumvent BITCOIN!!!!!!

Hey, thanks!

It would be awesome if this could become a reality, I think having an ATM grid would be more productive than having the likes of a Nem debit card.

ATMs encourage local adoption of crypto-currency, while debit cards produce reliance on fiat. (Nem ATMs would take cash, and give you Nem.)

No need for Bitcoin.

However, I am not against the idea of a Nem debit card in conjunction with Nem ATMs.

I think it would be smart to target every u.s. state capital city. (like Annapolis in Maryland)

These cities usually have tight-nit, and semi-urban groups of technologically capable people. (The kind we would want to target for Nem marketing)

Accordingly, news spreads quick in cities like these, we could try to get an article about each new Nem ATM in each cities newspaper(s).

...we would need to raise between 40,000,000 to 80,000,000 Nem for a project such as this.

Thanks,
-Erik
