With just 3 wickets for 272 runs, India managed to finish the first day well enough. However, it was only for opener KL Rahul. Virat Kohli has performed poorly in the last few series. He recently lost the captaincy. So I thought I would see a better innings than him in this match. But he has collected only 35 runs. This is not enough collection in test format. We haven't seen a century from him in a long time.

Time has come to drop him perhaps? Kohli has been the backbone of Indian batting since time immemorial. But recently, his form has been less than satisfactory. Combined with his involvement in the team politics, I would say that his overall contribution has been negative. I personally believe that he should be rested for the next series and asked to play a few of the domestic matches, so that he could regain his form. Shreyas Iyer or Venkatesh Iyer can be included in his place for the next series.

I will not say that it is time to drop Kohli, he is still one of the best players in the world. But he needs to rest. He should rest a few matches against strong teams. He should be given a chance in the series against a relatively weak opponent. If he can get back to form then we will see his destructive form again. South Africa is not a very strong opponent. This is the best thing I saw on the internet today    KL Rahul proving once again that he can bat very nicely under responsibilities and new conditions, he is not far away from becoming a legendary cricket after Kohli retires, he is the only batsman who is becoming a key and consistent player for the team in all the three formats, no wonder why he is the very first preference is everyone's mind for the next captain. Everything will depend on Root and Stokes batting performance. England won't be able to take the lead of 100 runs or more if they fail to make a good partnership from this point. Whatever happens, Australia will easily win the third test match like they have won the first two games.

Joe Root is going to turn it up? Hilarious. England actually were still in the game after bowling out Australia for 267, but they messed up big-time after losing 4 wickets for just 31 runs. Root is probably ashamed of his own team right now.

But, when you are watching how Kohli batted and then how got out at the on-going test, you may not blame his skills but only his lack of patience (similarly Pujara's wicket also highly misfortune one) hence I am not seeing any problem for Kohli's place in India test team as of now. As long as his batting average stays good, he might remain in playing eleven as expecting him to score at least one century on every series may not be an appropriate one IMO even he used to do so some few years back.

Before Kohli, India should rest Rahane and Pujara first or at least give chance either one and should apply rotating policy to give room for new talents.

Draw is a possibility but SA's pitches tend to get dangerous and tides changes drastically in last 3 days so i think if there is no rain in next 3 days then result is possible. I'm counting on batting collapse cause i've seen plenty of Indian batting collapse and same could be said about SA's batters if our bowlers are on song.

Yes I do agree with this suggestion. Sometime taking break from international cricket and focus mainly on your family life gives you positive energy. Kohli wife is Indian film super star and they have enough money to enjoy vacations anywhere in the world. Kohli is star player and its not easy for BCCI to say him good bye forever.

The way Kohli was removed from captaincy is really insulting for such a legend player. The whole Indian team failed miserably in the tournament. And today morning they got bowled out for a two digit total, and that too without key bowlers in the Australian playing XI (Hazlewood, Richardson.etc).
