Australia vs England

Is England going to win the last Test match in the end after 3 consecutive defeats and one draw? What do you think?
Australia scored 303 runs in the first innings. But Australia lost 8 wickets for only 141 runs in the second innings. I think they will finish their innings in 10 overs in advance. However, Australia is already ahead by 256 runs. England will not be able to win if Australia gives more than 280 targets. They do have not that ability right now. However, if England can stop Australia by 260, then England can fight to win.
Finally Australia have set a target of 271 runs. If England have scored something around 250 runs in the first innings now this could've been an easy chance to win. During the first session Australia had the highest winning probability. By the second session this has turned towards England. If England is able to create strong early partnership, then it'll increase the chance of winning.
Partnership is the main problem with the English batting side. They have failed to do so in multiple occasions in this series. Although the start looks good they have already scored 50 without losing a single wicket. If the opening pair are able to form a partnership of 150 runs then they have a good chance of winning this match. Malan and Root can come in handy if the pressure is not on them.
England have scored 68 runs without losing any wicket and now they need 203 more runs to win. Burns and Zak scored 26 and 32 runs respectively. From what I have seen so far in this innings, England seems like the favorite to win the match. Both the opening batsmen seem like on a good knock and they are playing quite carefully.

Now the question arises is can the Australian bowler stop them from getting 203 runs more?

Since England's opener pair can play well, then England will win. In this entire Test series, we have not seen any better innings from England's openers or top order players. If England's top order is good today, then if the next batsmen can make a small contribution to the team's scoreboard. Then England will reach the goal of victory.

Edit: England sadly lost the first wicket just now. Rory Burns was out for just 26runs. England needs 203 runs to win.

They have lost first wicket on 68 runs. It's very first time in this Ashes that England opening pair manage to give an opening stand of 50+. England bowler's done a good job by bowling out Aus at 155 but its England poor batting in first inning that has spoiled all the hard work. 203 are quite a runs and still game is very much balanced. We will get to know who is winner on 3rd days stump.

Only because of some nutjob trolls? By this means Jadeja/Raina should have taken some decisions too. they were attacked in similar fashion as Shami (if no one remember then you guys must be following only one type of news). I humbly suggest that avoid these type of BS in social media.
The problems are much bigger than that, i do follow politics and Virat Kohli was a target by the BJP for the past 5 years,  the comments of Bhupesh Chaubey is one such example and another is Panna Lal who questioned the patriotism of Kohli and these sort of battles were going on for a while and Virat Kohli was wise enough to avoid any direct confrontation until recently and that opened the Pandora's box culminating in loosing his captaincy. We as a public knows there is some sort of miscommunication between the BCCI, but it does have a different dimension and hopefully we will hear these things from Virat Kohli as a biography once he stops playing Cricket.

4 decades!! holy cow bhai. I thought you were in 30s or something.  Grin
Age is just a number, yes time flies  Cheesy.

England is in a good position to win the Test match as they need just 189 runs but whether they will be able to is a big question even though they have 8 wickets in hand  Grin.

Yeah, finally at the last innings, English batsmen seemed like have adopted the Australian conditions to provide a good start. I guess Burns and Crawley are opening for England at very first time or at least on this Ashes series. But, Diwid Malan registered another failure and both openers got out now as England still need 180+ runs with 7 wickets in hand.

Hobart pitch was known for its batting friendliness but for this Ashes test match, I guess curator decided to surprise all of us.
Probably due to the fact of this is a pink ball test match (day-night) hence you could expect a different behavior than usual. So far it seems pitch is becoming slow over the days.

Australia is all set for 4-0 sweep, it seems.
I guess there is going to be a twist in the end as England got a good start in their chase of 271 runs.

If we go by wins percentage in test cricket history then he's only behind Steve Waugh (71%), Ricky Ponting (62%). His winning percentage is 58%. * Min 50 test match captaincy
That is quite an achievement considering the fact that Steve Waugh and Ricky Ponting are two of the best captains in the world of Cricket. Also, he is only behind Graeme Smith and Ricky Ponting in terms of wins and losses in tests.

England lost 5 wickets and still need 170 runs which implies that they are pretty much screwed. Looks like this series will end as 4 - 0.

Finally England have ended the innings for 124 runs. I don't know what is happening with the England cricket team. The openers gave a good start. The first wicket fell in 68 runs and the second wicket fell in 82 runs. Scoring the next 42 runs England have lost 8 wickets. England have already played four test matches, somehow they could've got adopted to the atmosphere. So, it is purely the lack of performance and responsibility.

England will be happy to end Ashes with 4-0 rather then 5-0. There are no words for England performance in this Ashes. They were overconfident before the series and that costed them the series. This is first time there openers scored few runs but it was neutralized by lower batting order.

What an unexpected performance by Australians and England in the 2nd innings. Australian scoring only 155 runs but then England all out at 124 runs. Look like both teams have forgotten on how to bat in a test match.

Anyways this Ashes was good for the Australians and a tough one for England. Travis Head is the man of the match and also player of the series.

Boland's numbers are ridiculous.. 8.6 jeezz
It is difficult to imagine anyone having a better debut than him. Unfortunately, he made his international debut a bit late.
He and Axar Patel are meme material for their country when playing against England.  Grin

Pant - He could be a good choice for long run. he's young, leading his franchise nicely and i think he proved his worth in Test team on countless occasion.
I agree that Rishab Pant could be the right choice for being new India Skipper and in long term perspective as well. Not sure about the who would be the choice for BCCI.
BCCI might tempted to go with Rohit or KL Rahul. Tough decision indeed.

~snip~

- Rohit - Captain material but 33 year old
- Rahane - He's great leader but his career is not safe anymore.
- KL Rahul - He seems first choice atm but Idk why, i didn't like his captaincy style so far (IPL and 2nd test).
- Shreyas could be great captain but he's only 1 test old in red ball so he's out of the contest as well. Same with Gill, Prithvi. They all are captain material but way too young, new or need to cement their position first.
- Bumrah - Idk if BCCI will follow CSA step (Choosing leading bowler as their captain)
- Pant - He could be a good choice for long run. he's young, leading his franchise nicely and i think he proved his worth in Test team on countless occasion.

To be very honest, the only sane option in my mind is between Rohit and Rahul, all others would be more of a temporary captain who might lead the side for a year but eventually you have to make someone else the captain, Pant I don't feel is responsible enough so far to be made captain, you want some more consistent performances from him and also some settled decisions in batting. Rahane would have been a very obvious choice before this SA series but now he obviously isn't in the options as board might consider dropping him from the squad as well.
Rohit is not long term option at all, he's already old and struggling with his fitness and injuries. I think we're about to revisit the era of Kumble-Dravid captaincy kinda period before finding any fixed captain for the next 5-6 years.

KL - Shreyas- Gill- Pant might contest for long term tenure. My personal choice would be Shreyas-Gill-Pant.

Pant does look immature sometimes which is frustrating at times but he's making habit of putting his foot down when team is in trouble. If you look at his all runs, 100s and 50s. They are not easy ones and shows immense potential. I strongly believe that he's yet to hit his peak as far as batting is concern.

I was surprised when I saw England scored 50 runs without losing any wickets. I thought they will win the match easily. But I got more surprise by watching the result of the match. The downfall of England batting lineup has started from that 68 runs. Probably no one imagined that England will be all out at 124 runs only. Australian bowlers has done really great job today. Shameful performance from England team in this whole series. Similar performance like they (England) showed it in 2017-18 Ashes.

Enjoying the recent matches of the team England and India is very annoying. England lost their first wicket by 68 runs today. And losing the remaining 9 wickets, and they collected only 56 runs. I don't understand why such irregular players are consistently given a place in the squad.
The situation in India is very similar to that in England. There is no one in the team who can consistently perform well. Players must be patient and responsible before playing a Test match.

England is still a good side, I am sure they can perform well against top teams like Pakistan, NZ, India etc. In Ashes, Australia came well prepared and it seems that they have some roadmap for this series which they followed well throughout the series. England on the other hand have zero prepration for this series.

Do you really think this team from England is good? Sorry I couldn't agree with you. I watched all the matches in this series. Australia has dominated in almost all the matches. Although the fourth Test match was a draw, we have seen the dominance of Australian players in whole 5 days. I think the England team's top order needs to be redesigned. The two opener batsmen have performed poorly in almost every innings. The bowlers have performed well enough.

The England batsman did not disappoint, they were true to their performance and they did not battle like they did in the last Test where they were able to draw and now they surrendered without much fight apart from the first wicket partnership Cheesy

India recently defeated them in their home soil and hence that speculation is pointless. They have a good ODI and T20 team but in Test, they do not have a solid player in the team who could bat for a longer period of time.

I will be surprised if Joe Root is still retain the captaincy after the disappointing performance in the Ashes.

Still can't resist from saying that it would have been 5-0 instead of 4-0. The Australian captain delayed declaring during the fourth test, so that Usman Khawaja would be able to complete his century. And remember that England was down to 9 wickets and James Anderson and Stuart Broad somehow managed to avoid getting out in the end. If the Australian bowlers had a couple of overs more in their hand, then the series would have ended up as a 5-0 whitewash. I would blame Pat Cummins for this blunder. Team should always come as a higher priority compared to individual achievements.

Probably you are right. Because, Australia set 388 runs as target when only 1 day and some 1 hour of game alone left for England to chase down. So, the delay had happened for the sake of Usman Khawaja's century. But, Cummins might have been confident about getting all out England with 100+ overs but 3 of England players survived for 100+ runs which might favored them to draw the match.

Moreover, Australia itself might be not minding about missing the chances of whitewash as these all do happen everywhere and they might have got used to such things.

A wonderful gesture has been made!

Usman Khawaja was brought back to the center to celebrate Australia's ASHES win by Pat Cummins who stopped the champagne spraying. It is humbling to see Pay Cummins standing for everything that a leader should stand for, respecting everyone's sentiments. Khawaja is blessed and lucky to have teammates like those around him. In a subsequent twitter post, he expresses gratitude and conveys that we are moving in the right direction.

England lost 5 wickets and still need 170 runs which implies that they are pretty much screwed. Looks like this series will end as 4 - 0.
The England batsman did not disappoint, they were true to their performance and they did not battle like they did in the last Test where they were able to draw and now they surrendered without much fight apart from the first wicket partnership Cheesy.
It's worst performance from any England side in The Ashes since 1890 but still Joe Root and Coach Silverwood insisting they are not stepping down from their roles because they are feeling it's not their failure it's all the system's failure which is correct but now ECB need to do some quick and tough decisions for having better way for their cricket in near future.

Now, they are going to West Indies where they will play 5 T20 and then 3 test matches most chances here they will do some better as West Indies is also one off worst test sides in current cricket community with many issues on and off the field. But for some better future they need to overhaul their cricketing system which is more than crap now for last few decades.

I would blame Pat Cummins for this blunder. Team should always come as a higher priority compared to individual achievements.
You are exaggerating this stuff way too much. How can you say for sure that Cummins chose to help Khawaja over his own team? He couldn't predict the future result and neither can you.

He is easily one of the best Australian captains in recent years if you ask me. I would also like to add the fact that he is smashing records regularly thanks to his consistent bowling skills.
