The Bitcoin software, network, and concept is called "Bitcoin" with a capitalized "B". Bitcoin currency units are called "bitcoins" with a lowercase "b" -- this is often abbreviated BTC.

If someone buys one of the limited licenses @ 50xpm and it's restricted to 1 card... then of course it's worth their while to crack it if they have a gpu farm. Don't be so naive.
And you obviously know nothing about software development, it will only take a couple hours to crack...
And primeGPU statements show he's complete lack of knowledge.

Dangit, you figured my secret out.  It's true.  Instead of developing software, I have a small bag of fairy dust that I stumbled across in the woods that I periodically sprinkle onto other people's programs.  But you'll never get me to tell where I found it.  Unless maybe you ask really politely.  With strawberries and whipped cream on top.

You're ignoring the point of my post:  That it's about the relative cost of the cracking vs buying the licenses.  If it's appropriately priced, then it's worth less for someone to crack the software than it is to just pony up the fees for the license and not worry about it.  And there are reasons for the people able to crack it not to give it away to others.

I could be absolutely wrong.  Giving it away in the way they did gets it into people's hands who don't have the same incentive to keep it private - I found it a boggling strategy that made me suspicious it was actually a very crafty phishing attempt to get the wallets or cookies/credentials of prominent forum members.  Someone can and will eventually crack it for fun.

If you need to test with a different card that's not GCN, ie 5870, 6950, 6970, etc., I have a couple ready to be tested with. If you plan to making it more universal than just the GCN cards, ie 7970, 280x, etc.
We do plan to support other cards, but not right away.

I assume you have already the 4 testers already.
Actually, we do have a dozen already. It's just not all of them publish reports Wink

Put me in line for testing for those, if needed.

I think you guys are ass  Huh for charging in this way. Your fending off natural progression, basically trying to prevent the inevitable. That is STUPID. We already have a bunch of idiots trying that, the are called the US government, and they are failing miserably. Let the beast out of the cage and put up your bounty bro, you will be better off in the long run, and so will the coin holders. It is just a small matter of time before this is working swimmingly on linux.  Tongue

Any linux miners? Have 50 R9-280X cards.

Nope, Because they are incompetent greed whores. I'm in a similar boat and will not even consider purchase, let a lone switching my O/S.

Please, do the right thing and release the source via dev bounty on Reddit and here.

As I said earlier, we're open to suggestions/ideas of the community.
But the way you present yours makes them hard to comprehend.

PS. I wish we had US government over here. Wink

They are better off doing like the current xpm miners and just having the miner auto donate to them a dev fee or just have one lump group buy.

6 month is an unrealisticly long time to expect this not to be reverse engineered or at least cracked and resold.  How many people have it already? I didn't see enough review from knowledgeable people with sufficient data to advise you on what to do.

Edit: I would agree with the monetization strategy above.

If you still need a windows tester, let me know.

I have three rigs - one w/ 280x, one w/ 6970s and one with 7970s/7850s/7950.

As said earlier, 6 months is the time after that we guarantee to go open source.
We can open source earlier if there's a more profitable GUI miner on the market.
If it gets cracked, license holders will benifit from additional optimization of new non-yet-cracked versions.

Supercomputing claims to have an nvidia primecoin gpu miner, which he never released AFAIK...

You can clearly see his blocks on the blockchain if you know what to look for.

what do we have to look for?  Roll Eyes

His username Wink

What speed increase does a 7970 offer compared with a, say, 4core 2 year old PC (64bit) ?

~50x when comparing to i7-920

Please explain how you reached such a bold conclusion. The AMD Radeon 7xxx series is known for having weak 32-bit integer multiply units. Also, what is the point of this software testing exercise?

7970/280X has 1.4x the 32bit mul throughput than a GTX 780, what exactly do you mean by weak? Also it costs only a fraction, maybe you shouldn't have ignored AMD so much Wink

EDIT: Anybody know how much a license is? Didn't find any numbers...

I have not ignored AMD GPUs, or else I would not have suggested using them for RIC mining. In my opinion, AMD for now, may provide the better value over Intel and Nvidia.

I briefly looked at the documentation below and the following instruction (v_mad_u32_u24)  on page 11-111 should do the trick for implementing multiple-precision arithmetic:
http://developer.amd.com/wordpress/media/2012/12/AMD_Southern_Islands_Instruction_Set_Architecture.pdf

It seems to me that member mtrlt was on the right track but needed some help with an efficient multiple-precision arithmetic implementation.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=258540.0

Although I have almost no experience with OpenCL, it will not take too much time to supercharge mtrlt's code with an efficient implementation of some functions. I will have some playtime in May to mess around with the code.

A couple suggestions, maybe make a trial version with a time base trial with 50%~40% less performance without the license? Or you can make it where you get a certain percentage for an free version, just like others have done, as long as you state it. Programming isn't exactly free, it's a lot of time and effort. So in either case, it can kind of self markets itself and tempt people to buy the license or you get a cut in profits.

Nice!

Stirring up the pot, cuda vs opencl. Fun times ahead!
Hopefully you guys finally get rid of the botnet beeyetches that are dumping xpm to the floor.
