silverbox update (he died):
he died? He struck me as a guy with a variety of interests and other things going on. Sometimes people like that get interested in other projects and take a break from things like Bitcoin. Sometimes for a while, and sometimes forever. I think my record is like a month of not checking up on things. The slow-motion train-wreck that is ASIC has me captivated at the present time. To bad it's such a waste of time an energy, but if that's what one is looking for, on a sub-conscious level at least, what can one do? Also, of course, those of us with significant PM investments are kind of in a relatively long duration funk which has been mostly not the case over the last decade. Bitcoin is doing better over this period so it's hard to show up and be berated and humiliated by the likes of cypherdoc I don't mind though It's good to hear silverbox hasn't actually died. The ASIC things has the opposite effect on me. It makes me turn away... there's nothing really to see there, just the same old shit puked up and eaten again. Gladly (opposed to how it was with Pirate) it is possible to ignore this topic. I just try to forget about my bfl order and be suprised and happy when a package arrives .

He could be pushing up the daisies for all I know. I had some conversations with him about tractors and shit, and he struck me as someone who had a short attention span is all. I'm suspecting that if/when PM's start the next leg up we'll see him back. If not before. It sounded to me like he had a footprint in BTC also, so if/when BTC valuations blast off I expect that that would bring him back as well.

The ASIC things has the opposite effect on me. It makes me turn away... there's nothing really to see there, just the same old shit puked up and eaten again. Gladly (opposed to how it was with Pirate) it is possible to ignore this topic. I just try to forget about my bfl order and be suprised and happy when a package arrives . as for me, i'm excited about the asic project and am looking forward to when they come online. i had a big order in with bASIC but luckily got a chargeback in early December when it became apparent he wasn't going to meet his first deadline. unfortunately, some good ppl are going to lose some money. that whole experience though got me some good connections in the mining arena and has given me a whole new level of respect for those guys. there is some amazing stuff going on there and i'm confident that asic's will come online. just a matter of by who and when. i think it will be great for Bitcoin in general and i hope to get a few of the units myself. but it's probably better to wait and see who actually delivers. i think it takes Bitcoin to a whole, new secure level that could put it over the top and make it close to impossible to be attacked even by a gov't.

don't get me wrong, I'm excited about ASIC, too. I just can't stand all the delivery-date pushing and harsh words in these threads.

don't get me wrong, I'm excited about ASIC, too. I just can't stand all the delivery-date pushing and harsh words in these threads. In defense of the ASIC guys, these chips are REALLY hard to design. I spent some time once writing driver software for a telecom switch ASIC and the thing was so flaky I'd have to initialize the registers in particular sequences with particular timings and even then if the thing went out to lunch I had code to automatically reset it and try again. Because once the silicon is there, that's what you've got. Better make it work or tell your investors $100M just became 0. These Bitcoin ASIC efforts have been rushed and they did not spend enough time in verification or FPGA simulation. So I'd give them the benefit of the doubt that they are not a Pirate scam until I don't see 10000 dead chips. The stupid thing was to accept pre-orders as if making ASICs are as easy as stamping Christmas cookies. They should have done a kickstarter or essentially sold stock. And designing the PCBs to run these high bandwidth high clock rate devices is not like cranking out an open source hardware arduino clone...

Jumping to FB? nope. they're getting sold off today too. Dump Apple and FB, to buy Bitcoin and SDICE? lol sounds like a plan. I really need to get myself a real-world trading account. Any suggestions of where/how to best do that (from Europe)?
