Gutsy move with asics around the corner.  Right now you are looking at maybe $65/month gross assuming no change in diff.  Expect that to be reduced to $20/month in about 1 month and less than $5/month after that. I'd be surprised if you see a payback period under a couple of years.

About 185 euro a piece with taxes off . The trick is  I have free electricity, and I will be making about 11 btc a day tommorow. And about asics, everyone is entitled to their opinion, and what is more important, with all I made from bitcoin so far, I can afford the gamble. For me, at this price for cards, it was a no risk investment.

I will be making about 11 btc a day tommorow.

There would be a 3% PPS fee or earnings variance in case of a DGM pool. And difficulty is projected to double in a month, hopefully BTC-Euro prices will keep up.

With 11 btc a day, I am paying of more than one card a day. In a month all cards will be payed of. And if it stops in a month, I will sell them, still making a nice profit. Altough I am not sure the difficulty will double. I am waiting for few updates from microsoft, regarding exploits. Theres at least 5TH out there that showed up in last few weeks, posing as ASICs, and they are in fact  botnets. This is a great time for running coinminer for cpu via stratum proxy and posing as an asic, since the pool owner can not tell if its real or not. Simply, its the real moment for botnets. Just look for users with like 30-50% oscilations in their speed.

I have 5830's that's undervolted, and was thinking of using SATA to PCI-E power cables.

Don't!!!
It can handle no more than 5 amps so no more than 50-60W. And the connector is the problem, not the cable, the connecting surface is too small.

been running 5830s on sata->pcie power connectors for over a year.  no problems.

 My 7950s (well some of them), are heavily undervolted, and they run fine on those adapters, but... I woudnt try to run a 5 series on them, they are power hungry bastards

Undervolted 5830 pulls about 120w? If it is 50-60w per SATA connector, then I should be fine.
Use one original PCI-E, then one SATA to PCI-E on the 5830. Also, I can always put the SATA connector on cards that run off of PCI-Ex16 slots.
Since it is NOT the cable that's the issue, but more the connector, I should be fine hooking up 2x SATA to PCI-E on the same line that came off the power supply. You know, each cable have like 3-4 SATA connections.

Havent had any contact with 5830, lowest I used was 5850. Couldnt get it under 165W with a reasonable hashrate

what clock and voltage setting are you using? I have never seen such low temps on my air cooled 7950 @ 1Ghz, 1.09V.

my 7950's nearly keep up with my 7970's, but at a fraction of the power and heat.

The lowest I've seen the 7870 was 38C. The 5850 was doing only 41C with some help from the 2x 140mm fans sitting on it and the 6870.

Nope, you wont be fine, but suit yourself. Just try burning up the mining rig, not the whole house.

Just to be sure, look for old Halon system, they are the best for taking fires out of electronic equipment . On a serious note, I have 3 fire extinguishers, one in every room. And not the small ones, but large. Better safe than sorry

Me too, and installed a fire alarm directly above the miners.

Any of you guys here going for the ASIC? I personally didnt believe in it, and now its too late to invest - however I had a nice ride, making about 18000 BTC in process... Only thing I regret is selling 15000 @19 .... But when I look at it, I invested about 40k in it, it was a nice run. However, I'll keep mining till there is profit, since the electricity is free. Someone will be happy when I start selling, lot of nice cards for cheap.

I am sure someone like king_pin still does not believe in ASICs even though we have now 5 delivered Avalon units (jgarzik, the Foundation, techwtf, xianfu, and another chinese) I just cannot understand why you guys at some point did not believe in ASICs. It is a financially and technologically natural and inevitable evolution of Bitcoin, like pretty much all the other computing industries on earth!
