1381  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitlucy withdrawal problem, does this acceptable? on: June 23, 2022, 01:37:03 AM
I had a $21k balance at one stage with Bitlucy.com.

I deposited $1,000. Wagered $200k and was exactly within and also exceeded the terms set out to withdraw.

So, you deposited $1,000 and eventually won $21,000 with multiple wagers, or you you wagered $200 once and won $21,000?

Sorry, I am not a forum goer, other than a fishing one...  Grin Grin Grin

Lol, obviously, you really buggered up that reply.   Wink

Whatever, I really don't care.  Forgive my cynicism, but these types of threads seem to always attract some scampuppet johnny-come-lately crying "woe is me, I got scammed too" hoping to cash in on a payday (if a payday ever happens.)  So far you're not doing a great job convincing me otherwise.

Can you please confirm to me how to post a photo on here, and I will do it.

In addition to the ones mentioned by Bitcoin_Arena I just started using postimages.org.

1382  Economy / Reputation / Re: Bitlucy withdrawal problem, does this acceptable? on: June 22, 2022, 08:18:16 PM
After being asked to wait you decided to go to different channels but it never resolved anything.

What does that mean?  What "different channels" did you "go to?"

According to our terms and conditions 9.9, 9.10, 9.11, 9.12 we have the full right to ask you for KYC.

Any chance you can share a screenshot of the email?

Also, I went in on him last night, said and did some things I shouldn't have, and now the website no longer exists. Hopefully no one ever deposits another penny.

Care to elaborate on this?  What did you do that you should not have done?

I had a $21k balance at one stage with Bitlucy.com.
How much did you deposit to this very new site? And why?

I don't remember the exact number, but they were offering a very generous deposit match (or claimed to.)  It was something like $5k IIRC.  It seemed rather suspicious to me when I first saw it, like they were deliberately trying to lure-in the greedy fish.

Why don't you start by tagging Royse777 using your real account instead of rushing in here with sock puppet accounts trying to push your own agenda through me?
That's probably because you tagged their accounts for promoting 1xbit so now they want you to do the same with Royse.

Lol, look for a 1xBit signature dope who was also tagged by Royse777, and we'll probably find out who this alt belongs to.
1383  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coldcard on: June 22, 2022, 07:01:14 PM
As long as there is a mobile app for that; which it doesn't.

Yeah, my phone isn't setup to receive or send data by default, and like I said previously I'm reluctant to using a third party app to transfer files between the wallet and my phone.  Maybe ColdCard is ahead of the curve, and we'll see some mobile wallet apps implement NFC file transfer capability in the near future.  But again, unless it's wallet app that I trust (like Electrum and... well, Electrum) I probably won't be using it at all.
1384  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Why I wouldn't buy Ledger Nano S ever again? on: June 22, 2022, 06:23:24 PM
I'm not a fan of the Ledger wallets, whether the Nano S or the Nano X, so I'm not trying to defend them from anything other than misinformation.  To that end, they will be supporting the Nano S for the foreseeable future despite their plans to discontinue production.

This is from the blog post revealing the news:

– If you are a Ledger Nano S owner, the end of the production won’t change anything to your daily experience. Support will continue to be provided and device maintenance will be guaranteed, including for new features, critical bugs and vulnerabilities fixes.

Again, I've been critical of Ledger for various reasons, but I seriously doubt they would leave their Nano S users out in the cold.  That would be worse (for their business) than leaking all their customer info onto the darkweb.  Cheesy
1385  Economy / Currency exchange / Re: Have BTC want Western Union on: June 22, 2022, 04:44:15 PM
Need $200 converted to western union at best rate possible.

Western Union isn't great for the sender, they'll charge substantial fees.  If you're willing to take the hit for the fees, then you're more likely to get someone to take your offer.  Like me, for example.  I have a Western Union account, and I would take this offer if you are willing to send first and cover the fees.

I can also send via Zelle or Revolute, neither of which charge fees.

Just to touch on the subject of p2p exchanges, I recommend Bisq.

ETA: got my fix on bisq.
1386  Economy / Lending / Re: Stablecoin lending. - Available Worldwide. - You decide interest. on: June 22, 2022, 04:21:08 PM
First collateral-free loan ever was sent last Friday! We are officially in business baby!

show the clear evidence here, also your borrower should announce and confirm the loan. Otherwise, no one will believe you.

Yes sir! We did it through a PM and this topic didn't exist a week ago but here you go:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5402496.0

I'm sorry that I will be the one to point this out, but just because you say it doesn't mean that's the truth. Plus, there is no reply from mnightwaffle to your post that confirms taking a loan from you. You will need, at least, the confirmation here from mnightwaffle or the PM's that prove your deal/ word.

Hey, I don't know how to make it so when you open the link it sends you to the reply but here's a screenshot:

https://imgur.com/a/0p9Xheh

Let me help:

alterra57 first posted this in mnightwaffle's loan request thread:

I'm a new account but I would like to send this, can I do so?

But TriNinja beat him the punch and sent the funds before mnightwaffle could respond.  Mnightwaffle reopened his request as he needed money for car repairs, and later posted this:

~

Talked via PM

Received .0102

Owe
0.01224

Due next Thursday

That response makes it fairly clear that mnightwaffle did in fact get a loan form alterra57

And why do the institutions of all people need to use CoinJoin on their assets in the first place? Do they have something to hide too?

Everyone moving large amounts of money around has something to hide.  It's much better for the security of their clients and security of their own employees to keep things somewhat obfuscated.  I could see CoinJoin making it easier for a Madoff to cheat his investors, but as we know there's nothing preventing a another Madoff from cheating his clients using currently available financial tools to hide fiat transactions.

There may be an opportunity for someone to in the finance industry to abuse CoinJoin, but I'm not a fan of punishing the masses due to the abuses of the few.

As n0nce alluded, privacy is a human right, and legally speaking corporations have been declared to have similar rights being that they are a congregation of people conducting business as a common entity.
1388  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ColdCard: why would you create a backup file? on: June 21, 2022, 10:20:40 PM
I just got my Mk4 last week, it's my first ColdCard.  I've been having a little fun with it before I set up for coldish storage.  I'm starting to become attached to it however, I may need another for that original purpose.  An Mk3 would probably suit just fine, and I could use the Mk4 as my "daily driver."
I don't think Coldcard Mk3 is suitable for that, because it was exploited like I wrote before, and if your device is running outdated secure element ATECC608A than it makes it even less secure.
Check what version of bootloader is in your device but if you have v2.0.0 than your device is not safe from this exploit.
Read more information about that:
https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1377362927729082368.html

Yeah, I've read about that attack vector, but it seems like any hardware wallet could be vulnerable to the same attack.  Currently I'm using a Trezor and we all know it's also vulnerable to a similar physical attack.  As you also mentioned in your post the updated bootloaders mitigate the possibility and I imagine (like a Trezor) a Bip39 passphrase would also mitigate this issue.  Not to mention, if I was to use the Mk3 for coldish storage, they'll have to break into my gun safe before they can break into my hardware wallet.

The only advantages I see to the backup feature are quicker recoveries and cloning the ColdCard.  I could see myself using it for cloning, but for securing my seed or as an alternative to paper?  No way!  I don't trust anything as much as a good old-fashioned paper backup, copied and stored securely in sperate places.
If you can please post some review and comparison between mk3 vs m4.
I am interested to learn more about it and we may get more attention from mister Busy Nvk.

I wish I could, but I don't have an Mk3, this is my first ColdCard.  I don't even own any OpenDimes, and that seems like a tragedy all on it's own.  Cheesy

Although it does seem silly to backup your 24-Word seed phrase with a 12-word phrase, lol.
It does sound extremely silly, and I don't trust sd cards for any long term storage, but I guess multiple copies mitigate the risks.

I'm not sure.  Digital media is a new technology, obviously.  It may be archival but for how long?  We won't know until we know.  Maybe when the first Egyptians put ink to paper there was a "Dire Wolf" poopooing the idea and saying stupid shit like "that's never going to last, just chisel that shit in stone like a man."
1389  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: Coldcard on: June 21, 2022, 09:55:24 PM
The thing is that many NFC wallets are only basically and smartphone app and a card that has a writable NFC chip in it. So all the wallet management is done on the smartphone (creating the seed, signing transaction etc.): Basically the NFC chip is only a more fancy way to store a password. With coldcard this is different since all the wallet management is done offline and then sent via NFC to the smartphone.
Honestly, that doesn't mean ColdCard is exceptionally good; it just means the other NFC wallets are exceptionally bad. It's absolutely unacceptable for any hardware wallet to create the seed on a mobile phone.
Especially since ColdCard mk1-3 already existed, which all (correctly) created the seed on-device, it shouldn't be surprising or a novelty / security feature / selling point that they continue to do so. This should be one of the core essential aspects of a hardware wallet.
An argument such as 'other hardware wallets with NFC technology are super terrible' doesn't make the ColdCard a great product. You really shouldn't compare your product to the bottom-of-the-barrel ones as a means of marketing, that's not a good look.

Unless I'm missing something, the NFC feature on the ColdCard is only used to send (and possibly receive) files to the mobile device.  For example you can create a wallet on your ColdCard, generate a wallet file for use with a desktop client such as Electrum, then you can send that file to your phone using NFC.

I haven't gotten to the point of creating any transactions in my Mk4 just yet, but I assume you can use NFC to send and receive P/SBTs.  My unlocked Galaxy S21 is the global version which came with no bloatware installed.  It doesn't have an NFC file transfer app integral to the OS (that I now of) and I'm reluctant to install a third party app for the purpose.  I couldn't find a Samsung app, nor a Google app that does what I would need.
1390  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.2.2 Released on: June 21, 2022, 09:42:11 PM
This is kind of true for Electrum seed phrases, in that each Electrum seed phrase is either "legacy" or "segwit" and uses a fixed derivation path (m for legacy, m/0' for segwit), and when recovered to Electrum the same seed phrase will only ever generate a single specific wallet.

It's pretty easy to use Electrum with a seed that was generated by Electrum for this reason.

You could use an Electrum seed phrase at a different derivation path or with a different script type, but it would need a lot of tinkering to make it happen and would be complete non-standard (and not recommended).

Yeah, I've had to do this in a pinch.  I was at work and needed a nested segwit address for some reason, so I made a temporary wallet with my Electrum seed phrase.  All I had to do was lie to the software and pretend the seed was a bip39, and it let me do what I wanted.  Pretty easy tweak, but for obvious reasons I don't recommend it.
1391  Other / Meta / Re: Trouble posting images? on: June 21, 2022, 04:33:02 PM
1. ImgBB

2. Imgur

3. Postimage

The ImgBB image isn't showing up for me at this time, and seems like it's hit and miss.  If I refresh the page it'll show up half the time and the other half I get the proxy error.  I just used PostImage for the first time, I really like that site.  If you have an image in your clip-board you can just call up the site and hit CTL+V and it'll paste and upload in one fell swoop.  That's one of the features I liked about ImgBB as well.

Well, now it looks like I have two decent sites to use for hosting images.  I do hope ImgBB get their ducks in a row soon, I've posted tons of images here that are hosted by them.
1392  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.2.2 Released on: June 21, 2022, 04:16:07 PM

Lol, too true.

At least however Bisq have clear documentation as to which derivation paths they use (https://bisq.wiki/Backing_up_your_wallet_seed#Wallet_derivation_paths) as opposed to many other wallets which just leave their users guessing.

Bisq is an absolutely awesome service.  Obviously not as powerful of a "wallet" as Electrum, but that's not the point of the system.  It's by FAR my favorite p2p exchange, and one of the reasons is the great documentation and service community.

As nc50lc says, the derivation path specifies the derivation of the private key. What the client does with that private key then is completely free and open. Most wallets will stick to the BIP44/49/84 standard for legacy/nested/native, but many do not. Any private key can be used to derive any address type (or even multiple address types. It is entirely possible to use the same seed phrase to create both a legacy and a segwit wallet at the same derivation path, if you wanted.)

This is an interesting subject;  I've used the same seed phrase to generate multiple types of wallets, Electrum makes it pretty easy with a Bip39 phrase.  Most hardware wallets allow users to create legacy, nested, and native wallets/accounts, and so far all the ones I've used stick the standard of 44=legacy, 49=nested segwit, 84=native segwit.

Up until I attempted to import a Bisq seed into Electrum I was under the impression that the address types were hard-coded to the derivation "purpose."  But no, it's not.  I've conducted the below experiment before to make sure I wasn't insane.  As it turns out I'm only crazy; the test below uses a bip39 seed, and with the settings as shown it creates a native segwit wallet:

It seemed like the whole internet was broken yesterday; Tor network was under DDOS attack, image-hosting sites were hit and miss, and the NinjaBot was way too quite.

Anyway, the NinjaBot is back on line as of this morning, and it seems to be working as it should.
1394  Bitcoin / Hardware wallets / Re: ColdCard: why would you create a backup file? on: June 21, 2022, 01:28:57 AM

As a digital backup, it's encrypted with a very strong password.  As Husires pointed out, the file is an encrypted 7z file, and the password is a 12-word phrase that the ColdCard generates randomly.  Although it does seem silly to backup your 24-Word seed phrase with a 12-word phrase, lol.  If I do start using my ColdCard regularly, I could see myself creating a couple of mSD cards for quick recovery in case something happens.

Here's the documentation for the backup feature: https://coldcard.com/docs/backups

Which means that the bot will suffer some downtime, thanks Contabo. Tongue

I was just coming here to complain, but it looks like you beat me to it.
1396  Other / Meta / Re: Trouble posting images? on: June 20, 2022, 09:18:27 PM
Okay, it sounds like others have been noticing the same thing, it's not just me or the image-hosting site I'm using.  I knew it wasn't my internet, because I'm getting the same issues at home and at work.  If nothing else, I hope this notifies theymos that there may be an issue with the forum.

Nice, thanks for that.  I'll check it out.  Still not a fan of imgur, however.
1397  Other / Off-topic / mnightwaffle's car problems on: June 20, 2022, 08:59:31 PM
My car has some type of electrical problem or faulty install and it's going to be a few days until I can get it diagnosed properly. Battery keeps getting drained and it's not the alternator.
So I have to rent a car for work. $200 should cover the rental for the next few days.

Check the blinker fluid.  Cheesy

I'm not kidding.  It sounds like you've got a component shorted out and that's what is draining your battery.  I had the same symptoms with my ex-wife's Volvo several years ago.  I had driven the car to the grocery store, and some kid rear-ended me in the parking lot.  I looked the car over and saw no visible damage, so I waved him off and we went about our merry way.

The following winter the car's battery would drain over-night.  I would charge it, load-test it, checked the alternator, no issues whatsoever.  Same thing the next morning...  WTF?  Finally I notice one of the break lights was dimmer than the other, and upon taking a closer look I saw that it was about 2/3 full of water, lol.  So yeah, check the blinker fluid.
1398  Bitcoin / Electrum / Re: Electrum 4.2.2 Released on: June 20, 2022, 08:28:58 PM
I don't think so. In the 13 years since Bitcoin's launch, we already have many commonly used derivation paths and scripts. The three commonly used BIP44/49/84s, now BIP86 for taproot, Core's m/0'/0', and a bunch of other unique paths for certain wallets, such as Samourai's m/84'/0'/2147483645'.

Don't forget Bisq's m/44'/0'/1' for segwit addresses.  Yeah, for segwit!  I don't know how they were able to accomplish that, but that's how it goes.  I had learned about this some time ago when I wanted to restore an old seed in Electrum, then I had re-learn it this past weekend when I helped a buddy get set up with Bisq.

Way too much shit to remember, and even though I do like Bip39 seeds for various reasons, things like that make it clear why Electrums seed generation method is superior.

There really is no end to how different poorly coded wallets can confuse their users and hide their funds behind unknown derivation paths. While it is obviously very good of the Electrum devs to try to address this and help out their users, I can't help but feel it is highly unfair asking them to clean up the mess that other wallets have created. Undecided

I agree, although this problem could be solved if someone contribute to add list of non-default path on various wallet. It could be either simple textbox (only showing pair of wallet and it's non-default path) or option (default path, enter manually, path of wallet A, etc.).

A better graphical interface pertaining to derivation paths and multiple accounts would solve a lot of problems for newbies.  They did a good job with the interface differentiating between "Legacy" and "Segwit" wallets, but not accounts within.  I don't see hardware wallet manufacturers moving away from derivation paths for multiple accounts anytime soon, so I would be nice to see Electrum find a decent way to allow users to see those options during setup of a new wallet.

And it's all good until with them trying to clean up other peoples poor programming or documentation they break something or introduce a vulnerability.
This has always been an issue with programmers working around other peoples code since forever, not just with BTC.
Same with the keepkey issue. How much time & effort did they spend cleaning up someone else's mess.

Lol, I know, right?  The only "coding" experience I've had in the last 25 years is writing post processors for CAM programs to pump out ISO-6983 g-code in a format that the machinists are used to, but it's so common that you fix one thing only to have another break.  I can only imagine what a nightmare that can be for a program as complex as a bitcoin wallet.
1399  Other / Meta / Re: Trouble posting images? on: June 20, 2022, 07:53:29 PM
I use https://imgur.com/upload and copy the bbcode, it always work fine. It only work on desktop version.

I can't stand imgur.  You can't upload photos without an account, and the adds are as obnoxious nails on a chalkboard.  Most of the time when I post images here they're obviously related to bitcoin, and I don't need some third party image hosting company tracking my financial habits.

imgbb is a pretty decent image hosting site, and no need for KYC, lol.  Maybe it is imgbb that's causing the issue.  Right now I can see all my images that I've posted, but they've been problematic for at least two, maybe three weeks.
1400  Other / Meta / Trouble posting images? on: June 20, 2022, 07:27:52 PM
Is anyone else having trouble loading images the past few weeks?

I usually use imgbb.com for hosting images, and lately I've noticed the "Bitcointalk.org Image Proxy: Invalid Image" warning pop up frequently.  The problem is inconsistent, sometimes the image is displayed fine, other times the image won't load.

Should I not be using imgbb.com, or is there something else going on?
