Ive been following bitcoins for a VERY long time, even have a few. But i must say, there are alot of new coins showing up, and its quite confusing, which ones should you mine/buy, which ones will be there in a year or 2, and which ones die out in the time between. today it seems like its an even bigger gamble, than it was when bitcoin came out. Anyone have any take on this?

New poster, I created my account mostly to eventually gain access to the marketplace forum.  I was wondering if anybody thinks that there might be any interest on these boards if I was interested in selling a few things for BTC.

1)  Domain names -  I own http://www.minebitcoinonline.com and http://www.btc4ltc.com registered, and about 6 other rather good domain names.  Do people sell domain names on here ever? The minebitcoinonline.com one is a premium name for either a pool or a web-based browser just based on how many people type "mine bitcoin online" into google.  I wanted to develop it into a pool myself, but I think I would be willing to let it go in exchange for some bitcoins now.

2)  Network equipment.  I have three high end very new HP switches (48 port 1U gigabit switches, with 2 x 10 gigabit SFP slots on each switch) as well as a 4-U  6-bay HP chassis filled with 144 port gigabit ports (6 modules, with 24 gigabit ports per module)... These switches are all worth several thousand dollars each even on the second hand market, not sure what I might be able to get here for them...   Also have a 24 port gigabit Dell PowerConnect 5424, and some older 24-port Cisco 3560G's.  Is there a market for this sort of stuff here?

I am trying to get into the altcoin trading market and have been fairly profitable so far, but I've only been working with the few coins that I've been able to mine over the last couple of weeks.  Am I ever kicking my ass for not getting into btc more when I first heard about it back when SR was still just getting started.  Hopefully I might be able to trade at least one of the things above for some BTC so that I can actually start working with enough money in altcoins for the profits to be worth more than just pennies.

I think you have to gradually wean off the system of taxation. America has existed longer without the 16th Amendment than with it.

People think you need taxes for roads. Not income taxes as there is a tax on fuel already. However, I would go so far as to say that businesses have a vested interest in making sure there is good access to their locations so those businesses who build and maintain access will thrive. Just look at any major mall and you will often see roads that are maintained by the mall. Home builders create the roads in their subdivisions, voluntary HOAs can maintain those roads and some do.

Police. Many people don't need them if they were to take it upon themselves to procure the means of defending their lives and property from criminals. Investigations into crimes can be conducted by insurance companies, private investigators, etc.

Prisons. Wouldn't need 90% of them if we weren't locking people up for plants. Anyone convicted of heinous crimes like murder, rape, etc., could be executed in rapid fashion instead of being warehoused for years.

Fire. In many areas, people pay to be protected by a fire department. They get a bill for it. I suspect that if there were no government-operated fire departments, private fire departments would fill the void. People can either pay them directly or take out an insurance policy on their home. Since many lenders require insurance, the vast majority of mortgaged properties would be covered against loss. Those insurance companies may opt to pay for fire protection.

You have to take small parts of supposed government responsibilities and return it to the private market for a solution. Then you drop the tax by the associated amount of savings. Eventually, you eliminate tax altogether on citizens. Import taxes can continue to exist because companies in other nations voluntarily ship goods for imports.

I got an idea! Why doesn't theymos put up a tip jar to garner some bitcoins so that he can upgrade the forum, thus allowing users to upload avatars?

The people you call "ignorant idiots" are the people who will take bitcoin mainstream. Dismissing them does not change this.

The perception is changing.  But the reality is we are not done seeing the effect of SR on the price and perception of btc.  No amount of denying it makes it untrue.

Honestly I still think premine is the nature of the beast today. This isn't 2009 where you can create something unique and have a chance to mine it before MultPools jump on you and cram you difficulty up to 200. As a dev there would be 0 return on your investment and there would be no real reward for people to make a difference, unless they are offering an IPO or something before hand.

That being said, I still think NobleCoin is the best out there. With premine it is nice knowing what money is where and having the satisfaction of knowing there isn't going to be a dump on the market. Noble has a public ledger that shows where every bit of premine is and what its is being spent on. In addition to that, the Dev is constantly involved, online, and providing updates/feedback and keeping the coin moving.

If you haven't, you need to just check them out. Never want to miss out on the next big thing.

That's like saying a handgun is good finger exercise.  Silk road played a large role in the beginning of btc but it came at a horrible price. The perception of bitcoin as the currency of the darknet is still prevalent and it might take years to fully outgrow that stigma.

Anyway, for those who aren't bothered to watch the video, Anonymous is a "hacker" group whose aim is to promote internet freedom, and attacks government websites when they try to control internet. Like when the FBI shut down megaupload, the US government sites and servers were down for a long time.

He might have been thrown in jail, probably the only difference.

So now we have more merchants, like Overstock, accepting Bitcoin.

However, most of them use either Coinbase or Bitpay to immediately convert their Bitcoin stash to fiat.

For Bitcoin to grow, I would think that instead of just being a convenient means of transfer, it needs to become accepted as a legitimate store of value. How can we achieve that if merchants immediately trade it for fiat? Is there a way we can incentivize merchants to keep some of their reserves in Bitcoin? Right now I am sure Patrick Byrne, the ceo of Overstock, owns some bitcoin. However, Overstock doesn't. How do we develop more bitcoin--->bitcoin trade, instead of fiat--->bitcoin-->fiat?

Who counts your posts for when renting your signature space? How do they trust that you had their signature all the time? How do they know that you haven't spammed in any of the posts?

Nope, I did all by the book. Maybe couple nonconstructive posts but blaming me abusing his campaign, halving my payment and banning me for that seems kinda too much.

I was never interested in seeing The Internship. Beyond the blatant product placement, it looked horrible and it didn't seem like there was even a market or a demand for it.

In other words, no one seems to have given a shit about it.
