The reason I got into btc was because of SWC.  For this I will be eternally grateful.

Thank you Chairman Smiley
2082  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: rpietila Altcoin Observer on: August 30, 2014, 12:52:18 AM
Well spotted...can prove anything with an appropriate quote !  Do you think it there's a chance it could have been sarcasm ?

No idea, and to clarify I do not seek to discredit rpietila or monero. It was simply a question.

My only constructive criticism is that this thread is looking unhealthy, it's looking very much to third parties as "trust me buy monero now, do it, buy it", people will be reading this and delegating responsibility for purchasing decisions to those trusted members in this thread, and wagering life savings or living costs on this currency.

It would be nice to see it change to discussion of technical merits, adoption, and usefulness, with any mention of perceived price-tag current or future limited to impartial observation.

Speaking only for myself, there are several members in this thread that I formerly had great respect for, of late they are conveying as shill's, whether intentional or not. I am sure non of you want that, as if anything goes south those people will lose credibility and to some respects be held publicly accountable whether fair or not.

I remember reading a reply recently from a former litecoin advocate, who simply felt awful because of how much time he'd spent encouraging people to buy, friends and associates had lost money and he felt bad. I hope none of you find yourselves in the same place.

On behalf of many other forum members, please just tone it down a little bit and be a bit fairer, less pressure, nobody needs to buy or sell - more presence from the developer(s) and those working on adoption or improvement would likely be far more beneficial to your goals than the current discussion.

Much of the discussion I believe you are looking for has been held in other Monero threads, at least one of which has been locked.  Some of the threads are linked on the first post of the ANN thread which itself has a wealth of info.
2083  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero Speculation on: August 29, 2014, 11:00:40 PM
I really wish Monero inflation wasn't so high. I'm thinking of investing, but it's hard to imagine any real price increases when there's 20,000 XMR being mined per day. At a arbitrarily selected value of $100, that's $2,000,000 per day, compared with only $288,000 for Darkcoin, the only thing I have besides Bitcoin. A real dilemma for me, as Monero seems to be the most legitimate CN coin.

After your posts of about a month ago it's good to see that you have keep an open mind and have done some due diligence.

The part of your post I don't understand and that nobody has commented on is your arbitrary selected value of $100.  The current value is $2.20/coin which would be $44,000 per day versus $2,000,000 in your example.

I need more help with this monero mining thing

Am I 5 or 24 days behind?

can someone explain to me what 5 means and what 24 means?

I solo mined last night but didn't got anything Cheesy

I would say 24 days behind.  When I sync it will occasionally display less blocks/days behind and the go back to what I assume is the correct # as the larger # is the one consistently displayed.

If you solo mined last night you shouldn't be syncing from 24 or even 5 days behind.  It seems you closed the daemon without giving it any commands.  If you use the command "exit" it will store the blockchain before closing and when you restart the daemon you will only need to sync starting from the time you exited.

Very difficult to find a block solo mining without a large HR.

if you type "seed" within simplewallet, it will show you your 24 words

thanks, that worked, and my wallet is like from early May..

Doesn't work for me.  All I get is "unknown command".  Yes my wallet has a seed.  I deleted it from the log file long ago.

The help command reveals nothing useful for seed.

My help commend does show seed:

Code:
  seed                 Get deterministic seed

Maybe you have an old version?

I downloaded the June 11 version from the first page.

Try the link in this post.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=583449.msg8506566#msg8506566

I think the first post has the same links (with outdated version labels) so I guess it depends on when you downloaded a copy.

I downloaded in June after the June 11 update.  Considering the following post I don't see why I can't get my seed but the fact is I can't.

if you type "seed" within simplewallet, it will show you your 24 words

Yes I want to update to the version you linked but i'm not confident that I wont mess something up.  If I had my seed then it wouldn't matter if I erased everything.  At this point I guess I'll send my balance somewhere, download the new version and create a new wallet(s).
2087  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Marketplace (Altcoins) / Re: *COMING SOON* the Monero t-shirt! [XMR] on: August 28, 2014, 05:13:45 AM
Why grey on black, dude?

Perhaps a white text would look better on a black shirt, do you think? What would you suggest?

White t-shirt and long sleeve too. Seems monero logo looking good only on white, and you can't place it on black without adjusting color (bottom of the logo).

Although white would work it probably would look good with the right shade of blue as blue is the complementary color of orange.  A lighter shade of blue would contrast with the grey.  I don't know what your color options are.

The laws are for companies not players.  AFAIK only the state of Washington has a law the covers players and it has never been used against a player.

Sorry I no longer have the good links but it should be easy to find info.

is there a tx delay due to spam? Huh Huh Huh Huh Huh

There is no spam right now. If your transactions are delayed or failing it is likely because you are (or whoever is sending to you is) using the old wallet.

What if some one uses the old wallet but uses the current fee?
2093  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [XMR] Monero - A secure, private, untraceable cryptocurrency (mandatory upgrade) on: August 27, 2014, 01:18:57 AM
I'm not getting in my wallet monero coins  Cry   this to be a problem? I have done the upgrade to 0.8.8.2.

Balance: 0.000000000000  unlocked balance: 0.0000000000000

you probably overwrite the .keys file. I hope you still have the wallet seed?
If that is the case, you can easily restore your old wallet. Smiley

I don't have my seed, I just looked for it again.  Because of this and being generally clueless I have not upgraded.  I only have a small amount in the wallet with most being on Polo even though I'm holding and not trading.  Yes I know.

My question is, can I sync the daemon and send with the wallet manually by putting in the correct fee?  Once that is done I will be able upgrade with no concerns.  I have not used the daemon or wallet since the attack.

Transfer balance to Poloniex,  then clean house and start fresh?
When I first found Monero a few months ago, I couldn't get it to work so I am still hodling on Polo as well.  As a non-tech I await a user friendly GUI.  The older I get the more claims there seem to be on my free time, and I just haven't got around to figuring this stuff out.  One of these days...
Do you think when I am crypto elite wealthy I will have more time, or less?  Tongue

Good to see you explorer.

Sending my balance and starting fresh is my intention.  I just want confirmation that there would be no issue doing as I described.  I was thinking of sending it to the devs depending on the donation info that should be in the next missive.

As far as claims on my time, the last year has been about 3 years long and now my responsibilities to others is markedly reduced.  I see no reason why you wouldn't have more "free" time.  What you do with it is another story.

It's not the pool.  Minergate is not on the list of pools on the first page of the Monero ANN page.

I new to mining, I want to make sure this is working ok. Here is what I get when I start mining.

[2014-08-26 02:13:39] thread 1: 500 hashes, 49.30 H/s
[2014-08-26 02:13:39] thread 0: 490 hashes, 48.25 H/s
[2014-08-26 02:13:39] thread 2: 476 hashes, 46.93 H/s
[2014-08-26 02:13:39] Stratum authentication failed
[2014-08-26 02:13:39] ...retry after 10 seconds

Do I have to worry that authentication failed? If so what am I doing wrong. The reason I asked is I tried several pools and got the same failed message. So I assume that is part of the mining, or is it>

Yes worry because it's not working.  It's not the pool.

Most likely there is a space in your wallet address when you copy and pasted it.  I think it happens because the address wraps to 2 lines in the wallet and it is not always obvious when you copy it especially if it is on 2 lines in the bat file.

Let me know what happens.

My 11 year old LG recently died after dropping it for the 1,782nd time so I upgraded to an 8 year old used LG VX5200 I got from somebody years ago.  I transferred the battery over.  It was my second replacement battery in 11 years.

Yes it's a smart phone as it has more computing power than the Apollo 11 that landed on the moon.  Btc has yet to get to the moon.

Also BitsharesX seem to be gaining ground, they are now number three on coinmarketcap, so someone is making money.

This was posted in the Monero ANN thread for some reason.  Oh wait it was a response to your post there.

Funny how Bitshares just fly's past $100 million yet Monero seems to be stuck at being a small timer...

I am curious to see where bitshares ends up in a week or two.

I just came across this on BitShares X: http://prestonbyrne.com/2014/08/17/dont-walk-away-run/

The link includes a video from bitshares where they say that "bitcoin was the first digital company that calls it's shares coins."  WTF Huh
Other than that the rest of the video made no sense to me whatsoever.

Interesting criticisms.  I need me some Marmot assets.

I may be slow but I just noticed that the multiple empty table that were cluttering up the lobby and were going to be removed soon quite a while ago are now gone.

Hoping they stay away Smiley
