2721  Economy / Auctions / Advertise in Dogie's Comprehensive Guides [Round20] on: January 17, 2015, 11:52:58 PM
What is being auctioned? Why?
Non intrusive ad space in my setup guides is being publicly auctioned. I work for the community full time and am not funded by the community. Donations have not exceeded $100 in total this year and so I have to find a way to keep the guides sustainable and FREE for the average consumer. Selling ad space is one such trial.

Ad Format

  • Leaderboard style (728x90px), static images (jpg, gif, png), non annoying colors.
  • Ads may not misrepresent, lie, be inappropriate, be (or link to) NSFW content. I reserve the right to reject ads for other reasons or remove ads even after they have been accepted.

  • There are 5 ad slots for sale. One slot will be placed after sections 2, 4 and 6 in all the guides listed at the bottom of the post.
  • I will randomise which ad is placed in which slot on each guide so each slot receives the same impressions.
  • The ads last at least 10 days starting from when they are put up. Traffic is expected to be 15,000 impressions per slot over the period.
  • This traffic is exceptionally targeted to the hardware subforum, and more specifically to those who have either bought or are looking to buy miners.

Auction Format

  • Auction will run for approximately 10 days, to end at midnight London time / 3PM PDT / 6PM EDT on Monday 26th January.
  • Post your bids in this thread. Prices must be stated in BTC per slot. You must state the max number of slots you want.
  • The notation "2 @ 0.20" means 2 slots for BTC 0.20 each. Not 2 slots for 0.20 BTC total.
  • If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slots filled first.
  • Bidding starts at BTC 0.20. All bid prices must be evenly divisible by BTC 0.05.

I reserve the right to reject bids, even days after the bid is made. In particular, bids from people with less than 15 activity points are likely to be rejected. I recommend not getting into a bidding war with someone who has less than 15 activity points, as their bids might not be accepted, but your latest bids will still stand. If you need to know right away whether someone's bids will be accepted, PM me.

You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else. I will send you the payment information via forum PM from this account ("dogie", user ID 87869). You might receive false payment information from scammers pretending to be me. They might even have somewhat similar usernames. Be careful.

Taxes
There is only tax due to EU and UK bidders, and there is no additional cost to anyone (apart from me). Just clarifying to making sure its a level playing field while also collecting any legally required taxes.

US and rest of world   - bid as normal, no VAT.
Non VAT registered UK          - bid as normal, I will pay 20% VAT and take the hit.
Non VAT registered EU          - bid as normal, I will pay your VAT and take the hit.
VAT registered UK businesses - will be invoiced an additional 20% VAT on bid prices.
VAT registered EU businesses - bid as normal, please let me know your VAT registration number.

2722  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer U3 Setup [HD] on: January 17, 2015, 11:38:28 PM
So how quiet are these miners? (can not find any video with this miner) im only after quiet miners. i did see that Bitmain came out with a new design on them.

It looks to be exactly the same fan, so it then depends on what your definition of 'silent' is. To me they're as quiet as ambient, but its personal opinion.
2723  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread 0.24$/G Free Ocean Shipping on: January 17, 2015, 10:56:21 PM
^^^^ have you tried user: root password: root

I tried root as the pass in upper and lower case
login as: root

The preferred option would be to contact your ebay seller and see whats going on. Likely its got pre 1219 firmware on so reset button won't work. If you can't resolve with the seller, then PM BitmainWarranty to arrange an RMA. Be sure to link to your post describing the issues, what type and how many miners you wish to have repaired/replaced and your bitmaintech.com order number. They'll give you a quote - which hopefully is reasonable.
2724  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain problems on: January 17, 2015, 10:52:49 PM
If we, as a consumer, have more money to spend, then we are obviously going to spend it somewhere.
Related, I've been trying to throw money at Bitmain for a Paypal purchase and have been getting the runaround for about a week  now Sad
Really don't know what's up with them lately Sad Possibly hammered with demand and other things behind the scenes ?
*shrugs*
What exactly are you trying to do, and what's going wrong? I'll sort you out.
Sent Yoshi a $30 coupon from my account to be applied towards a Paypal purchase on January 5th, have sent two follow up emails, and still waiting. Last email requesting a status update was sent January 15th with no reply so far.

Not cool. At all.

Guess I should have just purchased coins on Coinbase, and purchased that way via the official site. I would have had the miner by now... At least their website ordering system has never given me problems.

Okay. PM me on Tuesday/Wednesday with order details if you've still not heard anything.
2725  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.27/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 17, 2015, 10:52:24 PM
Received the two S5 this afternoon (batch  4), definitely a quick shipment (thanks Bitmain and the Postal Service).  I replaced the single push fans with S3 push/pull pairs using 6" 4pin PWM adapter cables and brought them up one at a time. Doesn't appear there's a need for a top cover since the pull fan grabs virtually all the push flow, very little escapes via the top.

The file system installed is the latest (Wed Jan 7 14:05:02 CST 2015), but CGminer is still 4.8.0.  The units are on a free standing shelf about 37" high with the back-to-back CX750M power supplies sandwiched between them.  I set the clocks to 312.5MHz and one S5 reported board temps of 51/50 (fans 2640/2640), the other 53/48 (fans 2640/2760).  The average hash rates report as ~1,020GH/s.  Sent an email to EastHash to see if they might have an S5 compatible CGminer 4.7.0 in the works.

I haven't tried the 4.9.0 CGminer yet, but if the miners remain stable, I'll give it a whirl.  They've been running roughly five hours now.

PS.  Am also giving 306.25MHz a try (maybe also 300MHz), would like to get closer to 1TH/s, hopefully a good round PSU conserving number.  Smiley

PPS.  Room temp is roughly 65F estimated via laser gun thermometer.
Finally settled on a clock frequency of 306.25MHz which gives aprox 1010GH/s.  They've been running w/o mishap for near two days now and so decided to install the 4.9.0 CGminer.  It's now in and hopefully they'll continue to run uneventfully.  The reported temps are 50/49 (fans 2640/2640) and 52/51 (fans 2640/2640), aprox ambient temp is 64F.

=============================LATER===========================

Am noticing that since installing CGminer 4.9.0, I've lost about 20GH/s ave on both miners.  Any idea why this would be the case?

By what method did you put cgminer 4.9.0 on? You've probably replaced some antminer specific code which isn't on the main branch.
2726  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.27/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 17, 2015, 09:29:37 PM
I'm getting 69 and 65 temperature?

Is this okay to long time?

too hot.  what freq are you on?

what is your room's temp?

what fan are you using? stock or a mod?

Room 16celsius

Its two mod fans
Artic Cooling F12 modell
1350rpm
freq 350

I  have to keep silent this machine....no noise at all

You can get away with ~1800-2000rpm fans if you can keep your ambient low enough, there's quite a large difference from 1350 to 2000rpm in terms of airflow.
2727  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.27/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 17, 2015, 09:24:34 PM
Can I sink my S5 just in a fish tank with mineral oil and leave it for forever to mine?I know a Pc computer handle this with no problem.
Bitmain can you confirm this?

Absolutely not, no.

I will call my friend he is a cooling engineer he knows a lot about air pressure and airflow and all that stuff. and see what he says.

Or just buy a fish tank and submerge it in pure mineral oil then no fans are needed.

take a look at this way to expensive though for what these miners make.

As others have mentioned (below), you can't create a closed system with energy input without things heating up. The picture you linked was an mATX kit which required a 4x120mm radiator and pump to cool 700w NON 24/7 load. So for every S5 you've got another $200-$250 of components, ignoring the tank and oil.

Indeed people seem to forget that the mineral oil heats up and it still needs to dissipate the heat away. The same amount of heat is generated...

I am currently running at two pool sites Triplemining.com and Ghash.io.

Not sure if I should devore purely to one, or is there a better site out there?

They're all roughly the same, although the larger ones tend to give more even earnings.
2729  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3+ Discussion and Support Thread 0.24$/G Free Ocean Shipping on: January 17, 2015, 09:15:50 PM
Is there a fee for this?
I have two I am unable to login via web or ssh.
These were purchased via Ebay as well.

Not if you're Antminers are still under warranty. Are you sure you've followed the correct setup instructions? [See my sig for S3 guide and alternative subnet instructions].
2730  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 17, 2015, 09:09:40 PM
Based on your photo it looks like you might not have enough fluid in the pump. It should be almost to the top where the input and output ports are completely submerged in fluid. It looks like the fluid is only about 3/4 of the way covering the inlet/outlet and that would introduce air into the cooling system, which is definitely something you don't want.

It would help, but the flow diverter helps create a higher than expected fluid level on the return. You can see it in the picture that its filled.

What the coolant enters the reservoir from the radiator and hits the diverter it causes cavitation/bubbles.

That's not what cavitation is.

What is more likely is that the system hasn't been sufficiently bled. Air in the system breeds more air = more bubbles in a vicious cycle. You will likely have to twist and turn both the C1 and radiator while running to get the large air pockets out. As also mentioned below, although you can keep the cap on. Just be careful you're reservoir doesn't get too low and there could be a good 300ml of air in your system which would empty it 2x.

Also worth trying open the fillport turn the radiator 360 degress make sure there is no air in it. When setting mine up i had a large amount of air trapped in the radiator until i spun it and the bubble ran out.
2731  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive BitCrane T-110 Setup [HD] on: January 17, 2015, 06:57:41 PM
in the picture showing the liquid cooling the pump is connected to the PWM fan socket and the fan is connected to the standard three pin fan socket, surely for the fan to be controllable it should be the other way around and a four pin fan installed.

Fans are variable via PWM (some) or voltage (all). You only need 3 pins for voltage control.

Also while I don't own one of these I do have experience assembling computers and know the best cooling is achieved by a flow of air from bottom inlet to top exhaust, so flipping the radiator mounted fans to exhaust air will prevent them drawing in hot air from the radiator.

The PCBs require direct cooling so you can't reverse the flow.

Does anyone have the 0828 firmware (latest) hosted anywhere?  I can not get a clean download from http://pan.baidu.com/s/1c0eUjWs its always corrupt or never completes.

Here

I have another question. My father owns 3 C1's and one of his pumps is producing high amounts of foam/bubbles. Is there a trick to get rid of these foam/bubbles? It was actually running fine since he got them, but this foam/bubble thing just started. We are using this coolant.

I also want to thank BitmainWarranty for such a fast turn around on my broken pump. I reported it broken yesterday and today I received a replacement pump. I'll be installing it tomorrow.
Thank you.

It must be filled enough such that the return tube's flow diverter is submerged.
2736  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 17, 2015, 02:49:53 AM
Why on earth would you go with a wire cage over the decently styled version 1?

Weight. Less metal shipped round the world.
2737  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: January 16, 2015, 11:42:24 PM
Hello!
Anyone have any experience making the S3 a lot more quiet. Do i need to buy better fans? like noctua or other quiet fans?
I can not have this Tornado running in my apartment.

Thanks

The S3 is relatively quiet compared to most miners. Because of that there hasn't been much work done in silencing them, and most things you do to interfere with the fans will just make the other one spin faster.

I was having reliability problems with my Batch 4 S5 that just arrived this week, so someone suggested I update the firmware with the latest (Jan 7) release on the website. Ever since I updated with that firmware I have had troubles. At first I had problems with one blade not coming up, then I did get it working about only at about 800Gh (default settings), and now almost 3 hours later I am down to 680Gh.

Does anyone have the original firmware available for download?
Did you check the "File System Version" on the System/Overview page before updating?  Mine arrived Thursday (shipped Monday) and already had the Jan 7 file system installed (Wed Jan 7 14:05:02 CST 2015)!
No, unfortunately I forgot to look. The other problem is that on the Bitmain website there is no version number or date so I didn't know if it was newer or not. So theoretically I installed the same firmware, but it is acting different.

Version numbers are in the title, ie 20141024 is 24th Oct 2014.

It may be stock set to DHCP, if so login to your router and see what IP its been assigned.

If only it were that easy....it does not show up on my router at all as a client.  This leads me to think it is on a different subnet.  I have absolutely no idea how to figure this one out.  I contacted BitCrane and did get a generic canned response that they got my support request.  Who knows when they will contact me.  So much for Plug & Play Huh

Alternatively Pi's used as controllers often won't show up on a router if they've got their gateway set wrong. So, its not an easy process finding it.

If you really can't get the controller working, you could use a longer USB cable and run the modules off another cgminer based controller (Windows PC etc).
2740  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S5 Setup [HD] on: January 16, 2015, 07:13:50 PM
Anybody know - would an S5 run properly if you plugged another fan and two more cards in to it (provided you powered the two additional cards with a sufficient PSU)?

Because the situation is that one of my two S5s came DOA - the top PCB is defective and I'm waiting for a replacement. Worth the risk of plugging the two cards on the broken miner into my working S5?

I wouldn't try it, those cables are also mightly short. By DOA, what do you mean? We can probably get it going again.

DOA = Dead On Arrival

It's that top chip that you plug the ethernet into. Of the two miners, one works and one doesn't. When the broken chip is being used, the fan doesn't run, it makes little to no noise, and I cannot find it online using my router. But when I remove the "broken" chip and then replace it with the "working" chip from the other miner, it works fine. That's the best I think I can describe the issue (I tried pressing that button to restore it to factory settings, but nothing...)

I am emailing with Yoshi and he's been helpful. He and the team have been providing suggestions, but I either am lacking some technical knowledge or it's beyond immediate repair. I've got an RMA going and sent them the broken chip to have it fixed or replaced.

But if you have any ideas as to what it might have been, I'd be curious to hear as I spent a lot of time troubleshooting  Tongue

OFC dogie know what DOA mean. What dogie want to know is the symptom? Can you access the configuration page? etc
What is the "top chip" you mean here? Chip is usually refer to single ic or asic.

I think he was referring to the controller board. If the fan wasn't spinning @ 100% it suggests something electrically dead.
