2981  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: How Can/Do You Store Files on a Blockchain? on: August 26, 2018, 01:40:46 AM
I fully admit I'm out of my depth, when it comes to the nuances of file sizes and blockchain capabilities. After reading through this though, it seems to me that 99% of the real world applications people want to adapt blockchain technology for are doomed to fail. That in the end it's original purpose of operating as a ledger for currency/asset exchange is viable.

Some of the ideas i had been curious about where, medical records being stored and accessed in this manner. I've heard pitches of governements trying to use it for census data, or taxation purposes. On top of the original file size it would need to have the option to update/ad further information creating larger file sizes.

Is the only possible workaround for these projects to have the Data encrypted or stored separately, and have the blockchain and it's respective ledger work as a Key in the access/decryption of that information.
2982  Other / Meta / Re: Flooding on this forum, users not caring about other people's replies, please... on: August 25, 2018, 11:52:54 AM
Then you can simply use your "Report to moderator" button, on every spammy reply. It will knock down their post count. You can also report a thread as having run it's course to get it locked; here is a guide to Reporting effectively

Now to not join those ranks yourself there are a lot of posts about spam in this forum, you can find many of them here. There's even a club.So no need to create another thread, better to just join and contribute to the discussions already happening.
2983  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: been scammed for 50,000 LAX by username Neelix on: August 25, 2018, 10:09:32 AM
Not sure if you are copying and pasting; but you're going to need to take some screencaps at a minimum.

Otherwise you could literally be typing that out just pretending to have had a conversation.
2984  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Bitmain wants to compete with Canoon in the BTC mining appliance line! on: August 25, 2018, 09:01:26 AM
That's a  funny way to stay relevant by just rehashing an old idea.

What I find funnier is that Canaan(correct spelling) isn't releasing this as a profitable mining option. It's more of a novelty item that gets their name out there in a more mainstream product offering. I'm still pretty interested in seeing it, don't know that I'd shell out for one.
2985  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: where to sell my BTC (internationally) on: August 25, 2018, 08:30:24 AM
added to ma Favorites, but TBH they are selling BTC at very high prices, the lowest i found 8k$+, and that's when trying to buy in USD !!!...

also why when paying with CC or PayPal they charge these ridiculous amounts ?!?!?...

You can solve this issue by having accounts registered with several of the exchanges mentioned here. The larger exchanges with more volume traded will have a fairly stable price more accurately tied to the global average price. Smaller exchanges will have a wider range in price with not as many trades keeping it as closely linked to global price. Honestly it doesn't often get to far out of whack, maybe a few hundred dollars in variation.

Some people use that variation to attempt a quick turn around. Paypal and CC fees are high because they pay fees to utilize that funding option, and they come with more risk. Cutting down on fees is another benefit to multiple exchanges.

You can use low funding/trading fee exchanges for purchases, and the other exchanges for selling and withdrawing from.

2986  Other / Meta / Re: [Account Alexis is Hacked] Please restore account on: August 25, 2018, 07:51:57 AM
I just haven't used my account in ages. It was using a very old password, that wasn't particularly secure, and might have been part of some previous hacked website. Potentially even from when bitcointalk got hacked.
I received the emails this morning, about the password change and then change of email. So I clicked the link (within the 14 days) to lock it.
I'm not too bothered about the account to be honest, I'd just rather not have some hacker using my account... I dont expect Theymos to do anything about it anyway.

Here is a signed message from the bitcoin address posted in one of my first posts on this forum in 2013.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=290980.msg3125464#msg3125464
This clearly disproves you thinking I bought the account.

I don't mind being proven wrong. Considering the address was posted in a locked thread, I'm pretty sure it's safe to assume no one could have edited the address.
Someone from DT will probably tag the account but considering it's locked it's useless to the hacker anyways.

2987  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Desktop and mobile cryptocurrency wallets on: August 25, 2018, 07:35:55 AM
The stickied topic at the top of this board is significantly better.

Edit: If people feel you deserve Merit you will receive it. Apart from the final portion it doesn't look like you wrote any of this yourself. You may want to rethink your strategy and apply some effort.
2988  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [WTS] [UK] Bitmain APW5-12-2600 PSU 2600W [FREE SHIP] on: August 25, 2018, 05:48:45 AM
OP here are some good guidelines for a sales thread

Focus on Photos/Payment methods - Escrow/Shipping terms/Price and currencies

FuzzyBear

Pretty sure they are just selling a PSU, so there wouldn't be any hashrate data.
2989  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Trump's campaign manager Manafort and his lawyer Cohen guilty of 8 felonies each on: August 25, 2018, 05:28:50 AM
From what I've heard, Cohen's guilty plea was unusual in that he seemed to plea guilty without actually cooperating with law enforcement or even seeking a typical plea deal. I wonder what that's about.
The only move I see here is holding out for a better plea if needed down the road. Cohen can then leverage time served or some other trade off for information such as using the name of the "client running for federal office"; because until then it is just speculation as to who that could be. I feel his show of saying that he would not accept a pardon from the President, was a signal that he wants to play ball.
Quote
the specifics of these cases make them look more like a move against Trump. For example, it's extremely unusual for anyone to be pursued for bank fraud in which the bank didn't actually lose any money, or criminally for this sort of campaign finance stuff. And the campaign finance thing seems like a real stretch, since Trump has buried personally-damaging stories like this on several occasions before he was running for president. It'd be like saying that spending personal money to renovate your house was a campaign contribution because it'd look bad campaign-wise if you had a run-down-looking house; it's very tangential.

That's exactly what both of these cases represent. Neither of these individuals would be facing any trial or investigation if they didn't fall within the scope of Mueller's probe. It's an interesting tactic and smart to use the full scope of investigation they can to cast a wide net and catch everything possible. The more people you can put pressure on the more likely you are to find the information you need to move forward. None of these charges are the endgame, they are small setup movements hoping to find what they are really looking for.
quote]
I think that Trump will pardon Manafort, which is a horrible move politically.
[/quote]

I've stopped guessing what he may do. It wouldn't be the first horrible political move he's made; but it has shown how much politicians will accept/tolerate/follow/bend to for the chance to hold onto their power for another term.
2990  Other / Meta / Re: Administer Theymos And Cyrus Please see my reply on: August 25, 2018, 05:13:26 AM
How about you approach this from a different angle. Mostly because putting Theymos's name in every title isn't enough.

Gather up some evidence of the spammers in the Bengali thread, show as much of the problem as you can so that it can be reviewed objectively.

Then nominate some members in the board that you think would do a good job. They may pick one of them, they may not. Unless you present your argument with some facts it will go nowhere. I suggest updating the OP, so that if it gets read the evidence is easy to find and review.
2991  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: SHA-256 Contracts - No Payouts on: August 25, 2018, 04:56:13 AM
This is why no one should invest in cloudmining. It is worse than a Ponzi. Here's the number one question you should have asked- If it is so profitable why aren't they just mining themselves??

You are essentially buying the cloudmining company their hardware. You pay them upfront in Crypto full well knowing DIFF increases(usually) roughly every 2 weeks, hoping that by the end of the contract you will have earned enough BTC to cover your initial investment, your maintenance fees, any withdrawals fees, and have a profit. This normally does not happen, so the only way you make money is when the price of BTC has increased; and you could have earned that by Holding or even buying more based on what your maintenance fees would have been.

Then they have the ability to kill a contract after a certain period of time without refunding the purchase of the contract.

The only platform for that I would remotely suggest is Nicehash, because you can use it to jump in at a moments notice, or for a short time as it suits your needs.
2992  Other / Meta / Re: Follow users by merit instead of threads on: August 25, 2018, 04:22:21 AM
I don't think you can narrow it down that far, but here's a thread by someone who has run the merit numbers almost every way possible.

Bitcointalk Merit Dashboard

If you follow the link in that OP, you can use the "Rankings" tab to find the list of most merited users. That could give you a nice point to start from, I think they are even linked to their profile here in BCTC. If nothing else check out the rest of DdmrDdmr's threads, or ask them if they can find that within the data they've scraped already.

*unnecessary*Like the idea of bringing the old timers here those legends should be here. You can donate as well to request for particular features as well I think Theymos just watching and waiting for someone to raise new idea that can help improve this forum.

I agree with the Blue.

I love that you mention to someone with Donator status that they could donate more to request a feature be added.

I can assure you Theymos is not just sitting back watching and waiting for someone to suggest improvements. There is a thread running about community suggestions. Theymos did reply there.
2993  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Bitmain now requiring KYC documentation to buy hardware on: August 25, 2018, 03:36:38 AM
Regardless of how many home/small miners run from this they will be fine. The massive Data Centers ordering units by the 1000 have no issuie providing KYC info, as they are running massive operations and to reap the benefits as such are already transparent with their government and any other business they deal with. Those orders alone could sustain the business. Not to mention they like to make their gear for themselves to use anyways.

I wonder if they'll apply this to people who want to mine on their pool? That would be interesting as that is a massive revenue stream for them due to uneducated miners.

I like eBay, but you get charged a pretty hefty premium for buying ASICs most of the time compared to buying direct or from this forum, especially when the market's going upwards.
That brings me to another point- in Computer Hardware*snip*

Agreed on both fronts. I still check ebay from time to time, but it's been a while since I've had to go there over using the marketplace. It's nice knowing it's there as I did manage to earn a few extra bucks during th eFOM on ebay.

you can get miners pretty cheap if you buy them in multiples.*snip* 10 antminter S9s for £4100 which were seven months old in my mind is a bargain.

Sounds to me like you should check out cryptouniverse, sorry for assuming your continent of origin based on the monetary symbols used.

Also I would suggest looking into their Canaan products as opposed to the S9's.

2994  Other / Meta / Re: [Account Alexis is Hacked] Please restore account on: August 25, 2018, 03:14:09 AM
Not to belittle your account in anyway, but I wouldn't bother waiting.

I don't know when the last account recovered was but I estimate something like a minimum of 8 months for recovery. I think it is very possible for you(anyone) to build a new account up and earn the required merit and activity to get back to member status. Not to mention you will have to do this anyway if you can't sign a message.

I've already clicked the link in the email to lock the account for 2 weeks.

I'm confused by this part, do you mean it has been 2 weeks since you locked it or are you just stating you locked it within the 14 day timeframe the email provides?

Edit: had to say I got curious are you the original account owner? There is something that doesn't ad up in that accounts amount of Merit and how old the posts are.

I now suspect you purchased the account at some point. Regardless of that, where it stands now in rank and inactivity, my previous advice applies.

2995  Economy / Goods / Re: Need someone to help reship from Canada on: August 25, 2018, 01:52:24 AM
I could probably help you out with that. Feel free to PM me with the details.

I'll want to know what is in the package just to be sure, as there are some products that readily ship within Canada that cannot be shipped outside of Canada.

Edit: Filling this role for ranochigo

2996  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Notification does not work - pls help on: August 25, 2018, 12:00:59 AM
Have you checked the settings under your profile-> notifications and email.

It is on the left hand side of the page under modify profile.

You will see a dropdown box that has options regarding when you want to receive notifications, you'll want to change it to "replies" or "replies and moderation"
2997  Other / Meta / Re: Please show Trust in Project Development on: August 23, 2018, 11:11:18 PM
Enlightened, even a Vod prays to a higher power.

Agreed anywhere that deals, partnerships or a currency can change hands should reap the benefit of the trust system

I would like to suggest enable trust rating for all boards. Perhaps it will help people to know the poster is how worthy.

This has come up before and I liked the reasoning why it isnt everywhere.

Most boards are conversational or serve as an area for troubleshooting/advice. Untrustworthy people can still be intelligent and contribute in those areas. You yourself are posting a fallacy that an untrustworthy member is not a worthy poster.

With trust being as subjective as it is it's best left to it's true purpose; representing past trade or practices of a member.
2998  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: PSU Arching on: August 23, 2018, 10:06:38 PM
As far as other psu's I have recently picked up a sorcerer and a bitmain 1600w.

I usually order fro. Amittylabs they have an Ebay store and do have units up 2800 maybe even over 3000w. Can't remember as I only have 741's doubled up st the moment. Good idea thinking of 1800w never hurts to future proof yourself for upgrades.
2999  Other / Meta / Re: can i newbie send merit? on: August 23, 2018, 08:58:43 PM
Your first merit you spend on wrong post. He didn't deserve merit for it.

While you or I wouldn't have merited that post. Who are you to tell them they did it wrong.

I've seen worse; maybe OP was thinking the same questions. Maybe its part of some nefarious merit abuse. Who knows. Until it becomes something moderated it with a clear set of guidelines people can merit how they see fit.
3000  Other / Meta / Re: copy paste post on: August 23, 2018, 08:11:36 PM
Was asked to chime in here for clarity sake:

Permaban- This is shorthand referring to the severity of the ban. In this case permanent ban.

This is opposed to a tempban, which would be temporary.

All bans that do not specify a time frame are permanent

Completely different are autoban, and manual ban.
These only apply to mods and admins which none of us are. The difference being that in manual they can adjust and ad further restrictions beyond that of the autoban.

When someone refers to use the "report to moderator" for plagiarism and states permaban. It's because a permanent ban is the punishment, and you only need to report to moderator with a source to get the desired affect.
