3121  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: 5 ICOs that Sponge Off Charity on: August 07, 2018, 12:45:12 PM
You are posting in the wrong section.

Meta is for topics relating to the Forum itself.

You should move this topic to Trading Discussion ->Scam accusations... on the other hand it seems like maybe you are trying to provide a service?? If that's the case move it to marketplace -> services

You can find the move topic option at the bottom left of the screen if you scroll to the bottom.
3122  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon 851 on its way. on: August 07, 2018, 12:18:19 PM
Looking forward to the test runs.

Not sure how far out we are from an A9, these are just an optimized version of the 841, and from what you have on the label it looks like just that. I wonder if the voltage settings will work the same as they did for the 841 for this model.

I don't think Canaan will be going the integrated PSU route again, sounds like the 761's were a disaster to deal with. Personally I'd rather source my own PSU anyways.
3123  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Got scammed by btc-casino.io on: August 07, 2018, 11:54:51 AM
I am not familiar with the site. I have no idea if they are a scam or not.

The sad truth is if the funds are being held by them on their site, they were never your funds. You just had access to an account that made it look like you were carrying a balance.

3126  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: August 07, 2018, 08:59:36 AM

I don't know if I can agree with this. I do know that Theymos was trying to get at the fact that if everyone is now getting government assistance (UBI) then maybe minimum wage hikes shouldn't be so prevalent across the nation. Maybe we should stick with the national minimum wage (which is a lot lower then some states -- in the US of course) rather then trying to hike the minimum wage.

I can agree with that, I just didn't believe that scrapping minimum wage all together would be beneficial to the plan. There are a lot of factors at play with any monetary distribution like this; for instance do we provide the same UBI to an Alaska resident as you would someone in New York or Peurto Rico. These factors are significantly easier to approach in smaller countries, but should always be dealt with in a well thought out manner.

My country is no different, there are communities here that resemble a far off land where they pay 5-10X what I do for almost every daily use item. Due to that I would expect there to be some form of weighted calculation to take these things into account.

Quote
That's something which is a really tough issue to dive into, I'm going to admit I would like to research the issue before I comment on healthcare at all. I'll make another comment in the thread relating to UBI and healthcare at some point. Just wanted you to know I wasn't avoiding the question.

No worries, I really only bring these points up to stimulate the mind on the subject. I mean no disrespect when I say that it shows how despite having a well reasoned opinion about the subject there are always aspects that have been overlooked. I don't envy the person who takes on the idea and tries to draft the initial launches of these programs; if they mean to launch them with the serious intent of success.

I did cut the portion in regards to small business, but I am no stranger to those factors; having successfully run a failed retail outlet myself. That was a great example of what a knee jerk reaction causes if you don't think of the secondary and tertiary impacts of legislation and regulation.

Thanks for posting that, I hadn't really looked to much further into who(m) Bitpico was supposed to be.

Not a lot to go on in any sense, and seems like an odd way to get out of the game. Looks like one big circle jerk of a marketing promoting game in the end; really no substance to any of it.

That or some sort of meltdown, to delete all past posting history.

Enjoyed watching you and Wind_Fury discuss the network.

I'm going to lock the topic, as there is no need for it to be around. Request received to reopen topic
3128  Economy / Reputation / Re: EZBTC.CA the Canadian crypto exchange is on the bust. Fraud Scam Mismanagement. on: August 07, 2018, 06:16:13 AM
So it's been a few weeks, even longer after checking the Reddit posts.

Anything more to back up the claims? I haven't come across anything, and this sort of issue usually causes an uproar.

Also are you the user who posted on Reddit? If not this is Plagiarism. For this reason and only this reason I will quote the OP

Canadian Crypto News:

As of today, 25/July2018, EZBTC.CA the Canadian crypto exchange is on the bust, it has no operational money, some clients have been unable to get withdrawals over CDN $1000 . Former Employees are owed back pay.

The 3 staff members in the Toronto office have quit 4 weeks ago because of 4 weeks lack of pay. There are no staff left in the Toronto office, the Toronto office is closed. The landlord for EZBTC is seeking rental areas for 1 month. If you live in Toronto, Go to EZBTCA office and check for yourself. There office was located at 36 Eglinton Avenue west on 7th floor. It is now closed.

Clients that have requested for fund withdrawals through electronic fund transfers in last month have not yet received their money, because their money was used to prop up new clients buying crypto.

Some of the Clients who received their fund withdrawal of over $2000 by checks in the last 1 week have had their checks bounced.

CEO Dave Smillie has said that he fired all Toronto and Vancouver staff for incompetency, but the staff are saying that Dave is a reckless drunkard with drug substance abuse with a gambling streak. The staff said that they quit because ezbtc was a pyramid scheme all along. They say that ezbtc.ca was fraud and scam all along ran by CEO Dave smillie. They say that Dave has squandered money for clients that funded their accounts through email money transfer or through bank wire transfers.

The only clients left with money are the ones that funded their accounts through cryptos. Coinmarketcap.com has also just reported that the total marketcap for EZBTC is only $8000 USD. You do the math.

Basically they say Dave is borrowing from Peter to pay Paul in a last ditch effort to stay afloat. He uses funding money from new clients to pay old clients that are taking out a withdrawal. But his injection of new clients has fizzled as many websites have started spreading the news.

The Vancouver Office only has three staff members, for which Dave and his brother are the other two.

Try calling through to EZBTC even 4 times a day for 5 days every day and see if your call will get returned. I have been calling EZBTC for the last 5 days, with only answering machine and no one has gotten back to to me.

I hope everybody will do the honorable thing to investigate it on their own and warn people who will potentially lose money and create a lack of confidence in the Canadian Crypto scene

Thank you very much

Coinbevy
3129  Economy / Reputation / Re: [To Know]Merit giveaway thread for Scam ICO finder will be consider merit abuse? on: August 07, 2018, 05:14:13 AM
There seems to be a consensus on not requiring another "Merit Giveaway Thread". That being said it is your merit and your time, do with both as you please.

I see nothing wrong with you creating the thread, but you will likely be diverting a good portion of your time, to figuring out the validity of these claims. I assume you only plan on giving merit to authentic claims, again that would be up to you.

If you do post the thread, they seem to be funneled into Off-Topic, so this might also hinder the value of each post you receive. If you do want to advertise this in another way, just make a show of meriting such discoveries, and maybe write something in your personal message to that effect.

I was wondering why all of a sudden this had flowed over to Meta... you are to blame. Wink

OP is 1 of 2 reasons I previously stopped popping into P&S, but now that there traditional shit grounds have been cleaned they are adding [insert forumy thing] to try and make a home in Meta.

3131  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Should UBI Replace all Welfare Systems? on: August 07, 2018, 04:28:57 AM
I think UBI would go along way in replacing the welfare system in any country. The amount of waste the bureaucracy that multiple levels of multiple organisations bring to the current system does significantly more harm than good. One benefit I see for individuals in the current system is removing the stigma behind receiving/applying for benefits; as everyone would be receiving this.
Beyond that the UBI provides opportunity if you know you have a certain amount coming to you regardless with no stalled wait period or chance of denial, you can take risks.

  • You can accept that new position without the fear it may not work out
  • You can make plans for upgrading in post-secondary
  • Maybe you know feel you have more disposable income to inject back into the economy
  • Start-up a business, knowing you have something backing you for a while

However, I only consider it acceptable if it replaces all other welfare, including heath-care-related welfare, and I suspect that this will never be politically possible. I'd also like it to result in an elimination of all work-related regulations such as minimum wage, since with UBI there should be no excuse that people are being forced to work and therefore the government needs to protect them.

The problem is in finding the right amount. UBI is designed to be a system that will supplement your earnings, not as something to make a career of. It essentially should remove the situations where someone is choosing between the necessities of life at any given time. So I don't feel eliminating a safety net regulation such as minimum wage would benefit the system as a whole; because the UBI amount would likely be relying on a national average of minimum wages.

In regards to healthcare, I'm not even sure what it would cost me to show up to emerg with a broken leg, or to have a special operation. I'm glad I don't have to think about that, it's a perk of where I was born. I understand that it's different in the U.S, and that insurance costs can also be fairly arbitrary. So if UBI were to replace all health care related social assistance, I would expect the average cost of insurance be factored into this. Not just the average cost of the currently insured, but also those that currently chose other necessities over insurance.

Not being well versed on tax breaks or loopholes, there may also be several of those programs that could be lumped into the trash can if UBI were launched.

Regardless of your view on UBI or what you want it to achieve, I feel we are a long way out. The biggest problems are that there needs to be some longterm trials that make it to the end. They need to be held in an unbiased manner to determine the effectiveness of the program. Thanks to changing of governments and them usually trying to "salt the earth" of their predecessors this is becoming difficult. That is largely due to the fact that many people do not understand what UBI is, and look at it like it's expanding welfare.

Just ask anything you are unsure of on either platform and you will be assisted.

Try not to go in with an attitude as this limits how much anyone wants to help.

3133  Other / Meta / Re: Sent negative feedback! on: August 07, 2018, 02:31:24 AM
I tried pretty hard to decipher what the point is.

Hope someone get my point and I am not here making this one to remove my tagged or whatsoever clearly I've done in the past, I will live for it and will continue to be here learning stuffs.

You say it's not to remove your trust, good because that would belong in the reputation section. Probably prove fruitless as well.

You precede this by discussing (I think) how trust is only displayed if given by DT. Not entirely rue you can adjust your trust network based on who you trust and their ratings, this only affects the trust ratings you will see.
The DT members are just that "Default", but most users still follow the Default trust and that is why it's shown that way.

I personally think people should always look as far as you can in to non trusted feedback as well. This is useful because most people, yourself included I'm guessing, don't bring evidence of untrustworthy behavior to the reputation board where a DT member may see this and if they agree with you will tag it accordingly.

Also pretty sure this has been discussed recently will try and find you a topic or 2 3 out of the bunch and I only went back 160 days

Make sure all the ribbon cables are seated properly at the control board and the hashboards.

Is this a new purchase miner or used? Did it ever work for you?

I'm guessing one of the many "real news" theories you posted must have grabbed the attention of the Lizard overlords... Pretty scary I'd want to disappear to.

On a realistic note. Delete away anything you want/can. There will still be anything that someone may have archived out there available.

Wait I heard a click... They are listening, maybe they are archiving your entire BTCT history right now, better get to deleting.

I'll take some time to look around this evening, I've got a long  nightshift, and see if there is a coin I'd be interested in putting my name behind.

I'll get back to you as soon as I come up with something.

Edit:

Loyce I sent you a PM with a proposal for RVN.

In the interest of simplicity and moving things along, I will replace my RVN bid with Siacoin.

Siacoin is listed on Bittrex under SC. Here's to a great 10 months.

For getting tokens ignored should we apply shitpost everywhere and join spam each and every campaign board???

You nailed it bud. Great job.

OP

In the end report anything that seems fishy to you. The worst you'll get is a bad report; not a big deal really.

I know I let seeing these multiplatform spammers, regurgitating their post across all platforms and promoting an ico at the base.

Wasn't sure at the time so I reported it and, boom they were gone.

Good luck

3139  Other / Meta / Re: Why aren't obvious scammers banned? on: August 06, 2018, 04:04:30 AM
On the surface it seems easy enough; but after being here a while and seeing the elaborate lengths people will go to I can see why the forum would wash it's hands of it.

On the flip side of that they do not moderate anyone calling out scams. Everyone and anyone has the ability to shed light on anything that doesn't seem above board and a discussion can ensue.

Is red tag from DT enough ?

It should. This is a bright red mark saying "look at me". The feedback should have a reference. If this isn't enough to make you want to deal elsewhere then I don't know what to say. Note there are usually many other options available...some of them even legit.
