501  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: A gambler takes his own life after a loss. on: December 13, 2023, 03:20:21 PM
This is just heartbreaking to see given that he was very young for him to be taking his own life.

I guess this must serve as a reminder to everyone about the dangers of gambling. I mean, everybody knows the potential risks that it carries but once you are consumed by greediness and fear, it will definitely affect and cloud your judgement. Most likely, this young man took his own life impulsively due to the fear of not being able to recover.

To everyone who is struggling to quit or to anyone who is currently addicted to gambling, there is still hope for you to change- and that hope will always linger as your backdoor exit to control your temptations.
502  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who should quit, and why? on: December 12, 2023, 03:39:38 PM
Hey house someone need a few clips here, don't know if a post of this exact nature has been discussed though.

In a situation where the both spouse are gamblers. Husband gambles, wife gambles, how can both of them manage the situation in terms of finance and the family affairs especially when children are now involve so that the time both spends on gambling doesn't affect family moments and affairs in general.

Would it help if  one of the couple quit for the other and if that's the case who should quit for who.

If that is the case, then both of them should quit.

Parents have the natural obligation of supporting their family financially. If they cannot fulfill this natural obligation to the point that it impairs their livelihood and financials, then both of them should not have married in the first place. They have now the responsibility of having all the necessary financials as security in the event of an emergency. If their gambling addiction/habits affect their relationship with their family, then this will pose a potential problem for them in the future.

In conclusion, both of them should avoid gambling for the betterment of their financials. But, if they can allocate a certain budget for this habit to the point that it is the money that they can lose and they have the extra money for emergency purposes, then they can continue such habit provided that it should not be destructive to the family's expenses.
503  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Staying away from scam. on: December 09, 2023, 08:53:47 PM
It's the end of the year again, where the pressure of wanting to "flex" or look fulfilled for the year, while in reality the year might have not gone so well.
So many people look for get rich schemes with ridiculous percentage gain, this scammers know there's an increase desperation by people this period.
So they ride on your greed to make it quick and rip you off your hard earned funds.
It's imperative you take your time, know what you're getting into before venturing into it, remember all that glitters isn't gold. If it's too good too be true,my friend I can tell you for free, it's most likely to be too good to be true.

Trust me, the amount of people who are truly desperate in getting rich by investing in ponzi-schemes are rampant during this period given that the next fork is about to happen. I just hope that these newbies and beginners would understand that getting rich is not about cutting corners- it is all about hard work.

If getting rich were that easy, then every cryptocurrency investor would be rich by now. This is the reason on why some fail as an investor and they have nothing to blame but themselves for falling into this very obvious trap that scammers built.

Lastly, if something is really good to be true, then doubt it. Prevention is better than cure- stay away from offers that look very attractive as they are most likely involved in a shady scheme that may left you in danger.
504  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What happen if Bitcoin shutdown? on: December 09, 2023, 04:22:05 PM
I am just wondering, what will happen if Bitcoin shutdown? Will the market crash? How about the effect of this to altcoins? Can government shutdown Bitcoin? I have a lot of question about this matter, because who knows, right? Also, how about hackers shutdown Bitcoin? What are your thought here? Let's discuss this.

If BTC happens to shutdown suddenly, then expect prices of altcoins to either increase/decrease drastically depending on the reason on why BTC fell in the first place.

For your second question, I do think that the government CAN shutdown BTC but this will require a unity of all governments in all countries for it to happen. Remember that there are certain countries that prohibit the transaction/utilization of BTCs (e.g. China, Saudi Arabia, etc.) but this does not stop other countries from accepting it as legal tender (e.g. El Salvador and Central African Republic) which overall contributes to its price.

Assuming that all countries prohibit its transaction, then expect its price to decrease and it will slowly become obsolete.

For your last questions about hackers, I doubt that hackers can completely destroy it. The reason is simple- it is the blockchain that makes it fool proof. Every transaction is confirmed by a significant number of miners that can make detect whether a certain transaction is fake or not.
505  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Are slots hard to understand on purpose? on: December 09, 2023, 03:37:58 PM
If anyone has gotten used to gambling through crypto casinos, it's likely that they've become accustomed to games like dice. With dice everything is crystal clear: You know your winning odds and how much you are going to win if you roll within your target.
However with slots, you never know your win chance. You don't know what increasing your wager or coins does to winning chances and it's generally all so opaque.

Instead of winning chances there's terms like volatility and RTP,  which make little sense unless to the individual gambler. Honestly dice was complicated enough, slots are just too much. Makes me think that it could be on purpose. Players of slots seem to be unlikely to look into these details due to how complicated it is.

Has that been your experience too?

I think inherently they are difficult to understand because there is so much going on.  It's on purpose the lights, pictures and all the different ways ypu can win are all to keep you engaged and have an entertaining time.  But yeah I'm with you I don't play them for that reason.  Sometimes when I thought I won nothing happened and vice versa

Ahh this is interesting- this is what I also noticed with slots with all the confusing symbols and images.

Every time you attempt to play slots, it will roll on a certain number of slots and images then you would see different combinations with the respective value that you have won. Yeah I agree, it is confusing to know if you have won or not but the game automatically tells you that you've won "xxx" amount of money from the combination that was garnered.

I agree with the replies here- you should not understand it to begin with. You just roll and play until you see a desired result. Besides, you cannot control the odds as everything is randomized to begin with.
506  Economy / Economics / Re: The power of investment choices on: December 09, 2023, 03:01:09 PM
If you ask me I will say only buy Bitcoin but I see why latecomers are attracted elsewhere, there are other cryptocurrencies with unique features & potential for large growth. Diversification is key for some people, It is advisable to research & understand the potential of different cryptocurrencies considering factors such as technology, adoption & market trends. Each cryptocurrency offers different opportunities & risks so a balanced investment strategy that includes a mix of cryptocurrencies may be more beneficial for some in the long run.
Diversification is definitely a good thing but the problem in my opinion with that is that not all altcoins even those with promising technology and other stuff, you're still risking a lot of your money in diversifying in hopes that you can hit a lot of altcoins and get more profit when you can just buy bitcoin and hodl, it's more a better option that diverse number of crypto because with bitcoin, you're guaranteed to make a profit if you're patient unlike altcoins that are 90% likely not to go up after one peak in prices.

I somehow disagree with your comment.

I think the key point in making an investment is being smart- meaning, knowing which altcoin to invest in. I agree, there are lots of altcoins that offer promising technology and innovation but only a few are liquid on the market. While I do recommend that a person should at least invest in BTC, I still think that considering the top 5 altcoins for diversifying your portfolio can be profitable in a few years.

At the end of the day, it is all about knowing which altcoin to invest and when to convert them to cash as soon as they reached a price that can profit the certain investor.
507  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What Aspect of Sports Betting or Casino Gambling Posed a Challenge for You? on: December 09, 2023, 02:25:22 PM
Gambling is fun. There are varieties of games in casinos and sport that you can choose from. In casinos, you can first go for fun or demo mode before playing at all with money. But sometimes, I can gamble with friends, but that is just for fun and nothing more, no friend has taught me how to play a game and I have not taught any friend before about how to play a game. Sport betting is also simple.

Sports betting is definitely fun but if you are a newbie who is new to this space, then it is recommended that he/she watches videos available on YouTube for proper guidance.

Though this also may be the case, I also recommend playing with friends (if you have any) or join groups from social media platforms that offer help/guidance. Just be wary on the latter as there are a rampant of scammers that can take advantage of your situation as a beginner.

Lastly, I also recommend that you watch gambling streamers as they can provide insights and guidance on your desired game. Also, you can visit the ANN Thread of a certain gambling casino website in this forum as some offer free spins/games for proper explanation as a whole.
508  Other / Off-topic / Re: Do you regret also for ever knowing about gambling? on: December 09, 2023, 12:36:02 PM
I don’t regret ever gambling. I’ve had a lot of fun doing so. Whether I’m up or down money wise is an unknown to me but I don’t ever gamble large amounts so I’d imagine I’m probably +/- $1,000. Given the amount of fun I’ve had with poker nights and sports bets, it was easily worth the price of admission. Just be responsible and gambling can be fun.

I agree with your statement as I also share the same view.

While gambling has produced me countless of losses during my youth, I am still grateful for knowing such act as it taught me on how to be responsible for my finances and expenses. Sure, losing hurts like hell but winning in return is fun. The key factor here is knowing how and when to stop in the event of a winning/losing spree as greed can ultimately cause you to lose everything.

No, I didn't regret knowing how to gamble because It is one of the reason why i became more strict on handling my finances and it helps me to think carefully before spending money on the things that are not important in my life. I can say that gambling really helps me when it comes to the decision making and that's why I don't regret knowing about it. I told myself that Instead of putting my money at risk, guarantee making money or enjoying my time spent

Again, we also share the same view on this post. Gambling, while it may be perceived as both positive or negative, the fact remains that it can teach a person on how to be responsible with their finances, although we mostly learn during our failures and losses.
509  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What should new cryptocurrency users do first?🙏🙏🙏 on: December 08, 2023, 06:24:07 PM
I want to know to all you big cryptocurrency users if someone who is new to cryptocurrency wants to learn about cryptocurrency then what should he know first, the reason for saying this is because many new crypto currency users come to cryptocurrency and don't know anything.  By investing in cryptocurrency without understanding, they are losing all their property, so if you who are experts would say that before investing in cryptocurrency, you should know what things you should invest ?  Then the new crypto currency users would have benefited a lot, they would not have faced any losses as newcomers

Learn the basics/fundamentals and the reason on why you invested.

Did you invest because of the hype? Is it because of FOMO from your peers; or is it because you just heard it from a random stranger on the internet saying that it is a good investment? From these questions, know on what you invested and on why you invested.

After knowing cryptocurrencies and its uses, then comes the difficult part- which is investing and forecasting its price in the future. Due to its high volatility, its price may increase/decrease every second depending on various circumstances and factors.

At the end of the day, just enjoy the journey and the ride. Expect heartbreaks and celebrations as these are all part of investing in cryptocurrencies.
510  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Math and Gambling on: December 08, 2023, 05:51:02 PM
It is quite possible that among all of us there are those who are excellent at mental arithmetic, and there are many films about this, where people with such abilities are well prepared and go to win at the casino. Sometimes they even form groups to make it easier to earn money this way.
But we should not exclude the fact that the casino security service employs people with an excellent analytical mind. And their main duty is to ban players who can make losses for the casino with their minds.

I do think that Math plays a huge part in knowing the probabilities of each game. With this in mind, you can at least be knowledgeable on what cards that are most likely to appear by basing your decision on the highest chance of draw.

While this may be possible like what OP mentioned, in reality, this is very difficult to master and it requires tremendous knowledge and calculation on the part of the person gambling. Again, if it were that easy, then everyone would have done it by now and majority of these gamblers would be rich.

Though this may be the case, I do think that we should NOT use this as our basis in gambling. While math may be applied, the reality is that only 1% of the population would profit from gambling by employing such technique.
511  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: gambling for newbies on: December 08, 2023, 02:21:05 PM
Hello everyone, as you can see I'm new here, I'm looking for recommendations for a game to bet some money that I don't mind losing, I would like recommendations and if possible a recommendation for somewhere that teaches how to play. Thank you very much. Grin

Before we suggest something to you, can you please provide the details on what kind of games you are interested? Here are some of suggestions that I think that can support you on deciding which game/s to try:

  • Are you perhaps interested in a fast-paced game where you do not even have to think? If yes, then I recommend playing slots as your gambling game;
  • If you are interested in applying some sort of skills and bluffs (though you are a newbie), then I suggest that you play poker or other cards games that are available;
  • If you are interested in playing a simple game of choosing between three (3) colors and predicting which color would land next, then a roulette kind of game would be interesting;
  • If you are a type of person who is into sports and prediction, then sports betting would be the right match for you; and lastly,
  • If you are interested in playing a game where there are fantasies and elements of MMOs are applied, then I highly suggest you try the Duel Arena that Rollbit recently offered as it is definitely fun to play.

At the end of the day, it depends on your preference on what kind of games you are willing to try. If you are a complete newbies to this platform, then I suggest playing slots then quickly transition to other games. The beauty of this day and age is that there are lots of gambling websites that offer a variety of games on their platform.
512  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Can loneliness make one addicted to gambling on: December 08, 2023, 01:59:08 PM
I will add that there are more and more lonely people every year and this is an important world problem, but given what the world has become in recent years, no one cares about lonely people, so if we are lonely, we must solve this problem on our own and not complain and fall into depression. Then there will be no problems with gambling either.

We cannot do without not being lonely sometimes, situations of things do vary sometimes that we are not prepared enough to plan for how we should get engaged to every aspect of loneliness in us, some are occasional while some are just indeliberate by us, getting busy with gambling is one of the means we can adopt to avoid loneliness, but we shouldn't take it as an advantage of getting addicted to gambling at that cause.
Being alone, the player is not surrounded by people with whom he would like to spend time instead of playing. Of course, there are addicted players who play when their wife and child are in the next room and this is how their lives pass by, but this is completely wrong in my opinion. They don't appreciate what life has given them. There are also situations that are completely opposite, when, being alone, a player begins to play or do something useless because he does not have a family. In this case, this reason needs to be solved by meeting people, going to clubs with similar interests, and not justifying your losses.

I think there is not an absolute answer for this as it varies per person depending on their personalities as factors.

There are people who prefer to do things alone; but this fact does not mean that they are prone to gambling. On the other hand, there are people who prefer to do activities with others but they are the ones who are prone to do more gambling. It really varies depending on the factors involved as every person has their respective and unique personalities.

Be that as it may, there have been studies that people who are indeed alone are more prone to addiction given the lack of any interaction surrounding their environment. They are also more likely to suffer depression and addiction as they have no one to run to for comfort, etc.

At the end of the day, I think it is still better to surround yourself with people even if you are struggling in gambling addiction. Peers and family members are very powerful units that can pull you out of this hole and make your lives better.
513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: December 07, 2023, 11:54:38 PM
If you rely on a custodial service such as BitPay and they don't let you choose the fee, then there's nothing you can do.

Interesting- I searched the meaning of a "custodial wallet" and it stated that these third-party programs (such as BitPay) has full control and custody of our private keys. I guess they are the ones responsible for handling our transactions which somehow explains the high TX fees.

BitPay wallet is a custodial wallet, so you can neither set nor customize your fee rate, i am sure BitPay has their own fixed withdrawal fee that you must use when withdrawing funds, just as it works on centralized exchanges. You should try and move your funds into your self custodial wallet, because not your keys, not your coins.

I see- this is actually insightful to know. As someone who is really new to this kind of "more secured space" practice, can you recommend me a self-custodial wallet for my privacy? I would very much want to have full control over all the assets, keys, and funds of my BTCs for future transactions.

@qwertyup23 i'm sure this will help you now to send your remaining funds on bitpay wallet to avoid higher fees as well.

Thank you very much for all your replies! I would very much be interested in switching to a new wallet for my security as well. Probably I would look for a wallet outside my local exchange (since this is what I have been doing since 2017) and switch to a more secured space for my safety as well.

Once again, thank you for the replies and answers!
514  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Behavioral Change!!! on: December 07, 2023, 11:42:49 PM
Does any of feel behavioral change in you based on the win/loss in gambling. Myself had experienced it, and personally I used to be happy and I used to be polite with my family members and kid whenever I am on profit. On the day of losing it changes exactly in the opposite way, even for simple things I get much anger. Particularly while giving food to kid patience is must. On winning days I let him take his own time and eat. On the losing days I used to shout at him. I'm addicted, and I want fellow gamblers to make a self analysis at regular interval and be on the safer side.

I mean, this is quite the obvious that a person would feel irritated if they lost a certain amount of money when they lost; and if the person won, they would feel generous and kind to others.

This is nothing but natural human behaviour that we are more kind, happy, and respectable if we experience a good/positive outcome. In the contrary, a negative outcome would most likely affect our mood, thereby making us more aggressive and sensitive at the same time.

This natural human behaviour applies to gambling which is purely dependent on the outcome of the game. If a certain gambler won, then he would feel happy; if he lost, then he has the potential to be aggressive to his surroundings (though this also depends on the goal of a person if they gamble for money VS if they gamble for entertainment).
515  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Who says you can't be a millionaire in sports betting? on: December 07, 2023, 11:20:42 PM
You don't win if you don't try, this gambler for sure kept trying on playing "bet builder", probably even on "parlay", and finally one day he made himself a millionaire. This is a significant success already as not everyone can win a huge amount in gambling, considering the bet was only less than $20.

What can you say about this? Are you willing to risk your $18 to win $18k, or a million in PHP pesos?

No way that I would risk that amount of money in sports betting even if I am somehow knowledgeable about such subject.

$18,000 is a lot of money. Well obviously, that person is most likely rich to begin with as he has the luxury to bet that significant amount instead of investing it. The fact that he can risk that kind of money implies that he has probably have no use for such money. Again, this can be potentially dangerous as it somehow sets the tone for future sports betting fan.

I am a believer that a gambler gambles their money in proportion to their current financial status. If a person is rich to begin with. they have more access to cash for betting. But if a gambler is average, they will only gamble away a certain portion of their income.
516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's happening with Bitcoin transaction fees? on: December 07, 2023, 11:08:09 AM
This is why I always send my transaction with a custom tx fee that is adjusted manually.  I lowered the fee to my desired amount and just enabled RBF just in case the situation needs me to confirm the transaction asap.
If you are sending funds to your own address or consolidating your inputs, then you can simply attach a low tx fee and wait for as long as possible for it to be confirmed, as long as you do not need the funds. But people who are making payments or sending the funds to another party cannot do that, because you want the tx to be confirmed as soon as possible, and in that case you have to pay more in fees, which is sadly very high right now.

As someone who is inexperienced to this, can you please provide a step-by-step process on how to do this?

I currently have BTCs in my BitPay wallet and I cannot transfer it to my local wallet due to the very high transaction fees being required (more than $20 currently). Is there like a website or an application that I can use for me to send my BTCs by using a relatively lower fee? I do not mind if the transaction would take days; what matters is that I receive it on my local wallet.

I just really hope that in the coming days, the price of tx fees would be much lower. The last time I remembered high tx fees was during the last quarter of 2017. Even if price of BTCs reached an ATH of ~$68,000, tx fees were relatively lower during that time.
517  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: What will you say within your limits to encourage responsible gambling? on: December 07, 2023, 10:02:56 AM
For example, suppose you encounter a gambler who has wagered $200 at the table and is currently winning $6k. Would you express to them, "Hey, you're up $6k, and you initially entered this table with $200. Walk away, Take your winnings, go!" or will you say, "It is very admirable to know when to stop"?

What will you say within your limits to encourage responsible gambling?
The worker will not say anything. The worker do not have to say anything. Casinos will have rules, their works should not violate any of the rules. What I have noticed is that no worker will encourage you to stop playing, they will not also encourage you to continue playing. It is you that will tell yourself what that is right.

I agree with your statement.

This is actually a difficult choice for the staff if they truly want to encourage responsible gambling without infringing and violating their TOS. For the safest route, they can just ignore and not say anything to the players. If they make one (1) mistake, then they can potentially lose their jobs, therefore impeding the opportunity for their livelihood.

Again, it is somehow a difficult line to draw especially if you are an advocate of responsible gambling. But if you are a staff working at such casino and you also want to spread the message of responsible gambling, then it is better to quit your job (to avoid any conflict of interest) and be an advocate for such.
518  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Please help verify if this a fake crypto exchange website on: December 07, 2023, 12:19:06 AM
First, check the domain in whois to check the date they acquired the domain name and the creation of their website.

Quote
Expires On2024-04-04
Registered On2023-04-04
Updated On2023-04-04

From the above information, you can see that they recently created the website this year and it was registered and updated on the same date. It also expires in only one (1) year which is VERY unusual for an exchange given that they must remain consistent on the market.

Like what everyone has also mentioned, this is indeed a 101% fake exchange website that you should avoid at all cost. If I were you, use exchanges that are well-known to the public and do not visit exchanges that are relatively new and unused in this forum.

519  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sympathetic gamblers looses itself on: December 06, 2023, 11:54:20 PM
I have seen some facial expression gamblers that I am emotionally touched about and feels they have loosed more than they can handle and feels they deserves an condolence winning. While I empathic with him his amount of lost, I am then to consoling myself that someone on here has lost more than I do.

It is definitely normal to feel this way. We are humans and we share emotions with each other, thus, feeling empathetic to gamblers is a completely normal human thing to do.

On your last statement, that is somehow a dangerous precedent- this gives you the false hope that just because others lost more than what you did, this gives you the validation to gamble again. A loss is a loss regardless on how much value you have risked.

Quote
They are basically to believe one who lost $20 has lost more to them who looses $10.

Technically, that is the truth but when you are in this space, a loss is a loss regardless of the value you have risked. Like what I mentioned, this is potentially dangerous as this kind of mindset can landslide by giving you false hope and rationalization. What I mean is this can compel you to gamble and match the losses of others instead of just calling it a day and trying again the near future.

Again, the initial reaction of gamblers when they lose is to gamble again by recovering such losses. Hopefully, this mindset changes as this can ultimately transition to a gambling spree.
520  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How Do You Convince Someone On Something That Will Not Work on: December 06, 2023, 11:38:14 PM
We all know Martingale will not work in the long run, should I let him find out himself but that will incur a heavy loss in this case.  Cry
Or should I discourage him by showing him videos, articles, and testimonials?

Because of this, I will not talk about online gambling to newbie I could put a guy in big trouble.

First of all, discuss him about his gambling habits. Ask if he is a frequent gambler or if he gambles purely for entertainment as the answer will depend on the method you will be using. Second, after knowing such information, you can at least recommend him another method of gambling which is less-risky compared to the Martingale strategy. Lastly, if he still wants to use this strategy, then let him be. Convincing someone into changing something that they have been used into doing so will be futile as they are already decided with their strategy.

Though this may be the case, the determining factor here is his goal on why he gambles- does he gamble for profit; or for entertainment?

If he gambles for profit, then I would definitely try my best to suggest to him other methods in order to at least guide him in the process. Whereas if he gambles for entertainment, then let him play whatever strategy he desires.
