1321  Other / Off-topic / Re: What are your takes on revenge gambling? on: January 01, 2023, 03:52:34 PM
Just as the topic implies, What really are your thoughts on revenge gambling?
Revenge gambling can be seen as a situation where one chases after their loss after making huge loss which to me ends up a disaster.

Please lets discuss

I actually call this as the "cycle of gambling" where a person would try to recover his losses by gambling again, thereby increasing the risk of increasing his losses in the process. Unfortunately, a natural instinct of a person is to fight whenever they feel pain. For example, the instinct of a man after being punched is to punch back against his opponent. Such similar concept can be attributable to gambling where a person would definitely try to gamble again in hopes of recovering their losses.

In order to combat this so called "revenge gambling", a person must only bring a handful amount of cash. He/she must limit his/her expenditures in the process and avoid any future reloading of funds to prevent this kind of unfortunate scenario.
1322  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Responsible gambling on: December 31, 2022, 06:37:49 PM
To avoid, running after the loss, I have set up the responsible gambling in my account and it helps me a lot to control the bad beats against my will to recharge my account and ending up losing it all again.
For me this has been working for quite some time and it was a way I found to prevent me from throwing money that I need away.
Any of you guys uses the responsible gambling feature? If so, what do you think about it? Is it helpful or does it only gives you a sense of control

Your method definitely works as it limits the amount of money you put into your account. By putting a limit, this avoids and prevents any further damage in case you experience a losing streak and you want to recover your losses by gambling again.

I also employ a similar type of idea in order to at least control my gambling habits. What I do is I also designate only a handful amount of money before I visit a physical casino. Unfortunately, this only worked before as the temptation rises with the convenience of online gambling where you have the freedom to fund your account easily and remotely.
1323  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cashless Gambling, your thought? on: December 31, 2022, 06:12:12 PM
I think it's more of a burden to us, specially if gamblers are going to be tax. And as far as I know, government have been giving traditional based casino lenient taxes, because that's one way to attract them to put up a billion dollar business in one's country and then have a pay cut.

So if they are going for cashless gambling to put another tax for us, then I wouldn't be agreeing on that proposal. It will be too much for us.

The argument for KYC and the whole tracking is already there, when you play on a traditional based casinos, to enjoy the perks you have to register your name and other info and same now with the online casinos. So there's no surprises with that already, the real eye opener is the tax.

KYC was already implemented in order to effectively administer taxing purposes for the government's revenue. I have no idea on why Armenia has to implement a cashless gambling method as it will only further burden the people. To be honest, it is going to be more counter-productive in the way that gamblers would be dissuade to gamble. Instead of being a main source of revenue, such taxing purpose would destroy completely this industry.

At the end of the day, I hope the bill that implements this feature be amended to consider the side of the gamblers and to at least make it more reasonable and realistic.
1324  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to win gambling? on: December 27, 2022, 10:48:48 PM
The points you mentioned are not about how to win at gambling. But to keep gamblers' finances from getting out of control which makes their condition more difficult. If you say "how to win", then you should give your tutorials/tricks to win, while the chances of winning slots with that strategy are difficult, I believe that the winning results from slots will be obtained if you are lucky.

I do think that the title of the thread is a bit misleading- given that majority of the odds in winning in gambling is determined by luck. Though there are certain games that can reduce the risks of the odds (e.g. card games, poker, etc.), luck is still what derives winning in most gambling matches.

Instead of saying "how to win in gambling", the title should have mentioned about the general guidelines on what to avoid and what to do in a gambling match. Prevention and discipline is the key in order to at least reduce the chances of a person losing and increasing their debt in the process.
1325  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Problem with mass adoption of Bitcoin on: December 27, 2022, 10:07:55 PM
It's not known whether there truly is a small group of people that is able and actively engages in triggering major Bitcoin price shifts. I don't see enough evidence if it, and thus I don't believe it. Distribution is definitely uneven, but that's the way with any kind of wealth in the world, so it's a global challenge. Limiting the amount per person would be dystopian, as it limits the freedom of people to buy however much they want and requires linking all wallets to personal IDs to ensure  one person doesn't simply have several wallets to avoid the limit. I think that a way toward more equal distribution of  wealth, including Bitcoin, shouldn't be as restrictive.

I definitely agree with your statement.

I also doubt that a group/entity can affect the price of BTC in the market even if they have majority of the coins on hand. They may manipulate the price at some point but the effects would not be that too much of a difference to the point that it will definitely disrupt the market. Like what you also mentioned, having a centralized authority which regulates the transaction of BTC contradicts to the very nature on why BTC was created in the first place.

Again, this is not what Satoshi imagined if this were to happen. Having the freedom to transact using BTC without the need of a central authority is the true gift of BTC and this should not be eliminated due to regulation from a central authority.
1326  Economy / Gambling / Re: Black Friday fever: do you wait for extra bonuses from casinos? on: December 27, 2022, 09:38:02 PM

And throughout the year, there will always be promotions given by casinos or shops, offline and online, to get the attention of buyers who want cheap goods. And shops, casinos, and other businesses know how to treat their customers by offering something to their email addresses or sending offers to their home addresses.

And during the day, many buyers or gambling players come to the casino and spend a lot of money. That means casinos and other businesses have succeeded in inviting them to fulfill what they want.
It would really be neither a hit or miss if we do speak about success of a certain casino on getting users out of those promotions. Some might really be that interested but majority do really knows about terms and

conditions about these promotions and bonuses which is always been a disadvantage for a gambler. This is why just like the rest where i dont see any interest on putting myself on getting these bonuses.
If there would be some lessening of wagering requirement then i might consider but if it would be still the same and just simply changing up the names according on the said event or season
then you would easily notice this if you are really that a casual gambler.Every season does have particular or correspond promotions basing into that and for a business like
this then it would be that a standard. If you are a new gambler then you would really be interested at first glance.

The better situation would be if your designated online gambling website offers bonuses to its existent users and not only to new creating accounts. Not only do you take advantage of the bonuses but you also retain the option of betting to that gambling website.

I know some people who often jump from one gambling website to another since they very much love to take advantage of these bonuses. While such strategy may seem profitable, it puts them at risk on betting due to divided security. Sometimes, they even bet at newly-created gambling websites since the latter offer relatively large bonuses at some point.
1327  Economy / Speculation / Re: Cathie wood says 1 btc $1m by 2030 how possible? on: December 27, 2022, 09:21:27 PM
these forecasts are always interesting Roll Eyes but I wonder... are these based on specific analyses? Did she provide any details on how she arrived at this rating?
she is talking about such a large increase in value compared to actual values, that it really takes a certain imagination to think of something like this... Smiley
ok we are all optimistic and confident about this technology, but will 8 years be enough to have these economic values?

I do think that her guesses are more speculative than analytic, given that she has not provided any concrete evidence or at least basis on her statement on why she concluded that 1 BTC would reach $1m by 2030. If there is one thing that is certain, it is that the next halving will happen on the year 2024. We could expect its price to skyrocket, but I doubt that it will reach $1m anytime soon.

But to be honest, who would ever know what the price of BTC may be? She could either be genius or crazy but one thing is for sure- better HODL your coins if you really plan on investing long-term.
1328  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Why are you here? on: December 27, 2022, 08:52:33 PM
<..snip..>

Now, I discovered the different forums in cryptocurrency as well as this forum. Hoping to learn more about cryptocurrency and how it really works. I will not stop until I can invest in a right project and contribute a lot in this forum.

So for the newbies like me, why did you join bitcointalk.org?

Unfortunately, you have joined a ponzi-scheme where a certain company will offer absurdly high interest rates in a short-amount of time for your investment. I also fell into those trap OP back in 2018 where I also invested my hard-earned money and I lost everything in the process. Now that you know what things to avoid, you can also help the forum by looking for similar schemes and reporting them under the scam accusation board for newbies to see and to avoid.

I joined this forum back in 2017 with hopes of earning money to purchase a watch. That simple and linear mindset back in college is now converted to something bigger- I really dream of purchasing my very first car using the proceeds I earn from campaign signature. Hopefully by the end of 2023 right after I graduate in law school I would be able to achieve this dream!
1329  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How did you come to know bitcoin? on: December 27, 2022, 08:36:22 PM
Hi all,friends Smiley
I think that this question will seem very interesting, because the story of acquaintance and first investment in bitcoin will never be forgotten
Someone found out from friends, someone read on the internet, and someone may be standing at the birth of the cryptocurrency itself
Share your stories my friends, because each story is unique and interesting

Back in 2017 when I was still a college student, I remember having a conversation between me and my close friend about watches and how I dreamt about owning at least one (1) good watch in my life. After he heard my story, he quickly told me about this forum and the opportunity to earn money online. At first, I was very hesitant to believe him but after reading and visiting this forum, I realized the long-term potential of BTC.

I remember back in the years, the price of BTC was much lower and everything was much simpler. KYC was non-existent at that time and exchanges were fairly lenient. Gambling websites offer lots of bonuses and you could create multiple accounts without worrying too much on your privacy.
1330  Economy / Economics / Re: What was your lowest point financially? How did you go through it ? on: December 27, 2022, 03:28:35 PM

We all have ups and downs in life. If you are old enough, there must be some painful period that you thought you'd never get over but actually you did. What was your lowest point in life ? Especially when it comes to finanical difficulties ? How did you survive ?

My lowest point was back to study overseas in XXX country decades ago. At the time, my moeny was robbed and the school kicked me of dormitory due to the overdue fees. I was reluctant to ask money from my parents and I was collecting garbage food for nearly two months to survive. Luckily one of my friends at church helped me find a part-time job and I lived on that little money for a long time. That was really an aweful experience but I am glad I made it through. What is your story ?

I remember back in 2018, I had like $200 worth of BTCs which I earned from campaign signatures and a good friend of mine introduced me to USI-Tech. He explained to me that my BTCs can earn as much as 60% of its value after six (6) months of investing on it, not knowing that it was a ponzi-scheme. I even attended a seminar in our country wherein the owners of USI-TECH discussed its plans and futures.

Fast-forward and after three (3) months, my whole BTC was scammed and I was left with nothing. Unfortunately, $200 in a third-world country is relatively huge and I had to do part-time jobs in order to recover such money.
1331  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Cock fight game on: December 27, 2022, 02:52:00 PM

I don't know how people feel seeing animals fighting for their life and gamblers betting on them, I used to see some young men with dogs wrestling each around my environment, and most times I use to feel bad that those dogs are being maltreated.
I think the government should put in place some law that protects animals, and anyone found wanting should face the rout of the law because animals are not getting the necessary protection their to deserve and their owners choose to do whatever their wish to the point of gambling on the life of those animals. Cock fighting is not too popular nowadays.

Yup, the government is the one that needs to act in order to lessen this kind of gambling, but like what I mentioned before from my replies, even the government will apply rules. There are still people who will continue.

They are capable to do perform it illegally since there are still gamblers who are willing to take
the risk and bet or bring their roster for a cockfight in an illegal arena.

That's also the reason why the government is not taking this matter into their hands and just let the public enjoy it freely because they already know that banning it will just worsen the situation. They'll be playing hide and seek with these gamblers all along and waste resources again, so now, they are just riding with it because the revenue will be a big help. Harsh truth, I reckon because these animals are experiencing cruelties just to give people some entertainment.

If the government cannot completely avoid this kind of situation, they must at least provide stricter and stringent regulation when it comes to these kinds of games. Animal cruelty has been slowly gaining attraction and recognition compared before and this kind of situation must not be taken lightly. The problem is, how do we see a middle-ground for these types of games especially that they are already existing for hundreds of years now?

As someone who grew up with a family that loves to engage in cockfighting (we even have a designated farm raising cockfighters), stricter regulations must be implemented and harsh sanctions must be executed who violate such.
1332  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: BANKMAN-FRIED PANIC GAMBLES TO REPAY DEBT on: December 27, 2022, 12:53:44 PM
How in the world did SBF decide that gambling was the best course of action for recovering the funds? It seems to me that he has terrible friends around him.  Have you ever thought of gambling as way to recover your funds and pay your debts? Does this look like a case of compulsive gambling?

Source: https://www.pokcas.com/sam-bankman-fried-and-ftx-bankruptcy/

No and I will never ever try to gamble in order to recover my funds into something. But in all honesty, a person who frequently gambles always thinks of recovering their losses via gambling again in the same establishment. I call this as the "cycle of gambling" where a person, regardless if he wins or losses, would most likely gamble again. If he wins, he will try to continue his luck; or if he losses, he will try to recover such by gambling again.

This kind of practice should absolutely be discouraged due to its very risky nature- not knowing if you would be able to recover your funds in the process. If you have a debt, better invest or work in order to recover them slowly but surely.
1333  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Casino bonus is it worth it? on: December 27, 2022, 10:42:46 AM
Lots of casino giving bonus in different form such as free spin, free bet and bonus deposit but some of applies wagering requirements which is very hard to complete without losing money greater than bonus that you acquired. I know that wagering requirements is calculated by the casino so that can't go bankrupt by abusing this bonus.

I follow Duelbits Christmas giveaway since day one and I still can't find the challenge that I know that I can win.

Does completing bonus is still possible and profitable or it's just like chasing the wind?

Of course it is definitely better to maximize all the casino bonuses being offered as long as you do not violate any of their TOS. My recommendation, especially this Christmas, is to take all the bonuses possible (of course depending on your capital) and gamble your resources responsibly. But in all honesty, I would much prefer to gamble in an online casino that has been proven to be genuine than an online casino that is relatively new but with generous bonuses.

Remember that security is the number one key in gambling. Even if another gambling website offers more bonuses, always prioritize those gambling websites that have been around for years for maximum security on your funds.
1334  Economy / Economics / Re: Hope for cryptocurrency in Nigeria. on: December 27, 2022, 02:21:13 AM
Nigeria has come to consider the banned  which was put to crypto currency in the country in 2020. Ibrahim Babaginda the chairperson of legislative body committee on capital market and institute said that Central Bank of Nigeria does not have the right to control crypto industries and the Apex bank don't have the authority to regulate cryptocurrency because many digital investors don't even use local account since it is not a financial market but a capital market. the House of Rep be asked to approve a bill to that seeks to amend the investment and security in Act 2007 in other to designated cryptocurrency as a capital investment. Ibrahim Babaginda said the banned on cryptocurrency will not only be lifted but will be legalize.

https://news.bitcoin.com/report-nigerian-lawmakers-set-to-pass-law-that-diminishes-central-bank-influence-on-crypto/

I think it is important to note that the chairperson of the legislative body mentioned that the ban on cryptocurrency will be legalized. This implies that the government of Nigeria wants some sort of regulation and control over something that cannot be entirely controlled. While this may sound as a disadvantage, this will be better long-term as the government recognized its effects on the economy.

There will always be hope for the cryptocurrency situation in Nigeria given that the HR would pass a bill. This bill will definitely have amendments before it becomes a law and let us all hope that the amendments would not totally destroy crypto regulation.
1335  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How come people spend days here? on: December 26, 2022, 07:01:05 PM
But one thing I noticed is that many people spend hours upon hours here, like really long hours, which made me think, like how come?

Do you guys make a living commenting and being here or are you really that passionate about web3/ crypto and blockchain?

Let me ask you a question, what is the reason on why most people spend majority of their hours on social media? You can definitely alike this forum to the former- lots of people read and spend their time here because this is the biggest repository of cryptocurrency information and news.

Personally and as someone who lives in a third-world country, participating in campaign signatures can definitely help and support in alleviating the expenses. Since our economy is developing, the proceeds that I gain from campaign signatures help me weekly for my day-to-day transactions and purchases.

1336  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Licenses and Casino reputation on: December 26, 2022, 06:45:25 PM

I guess you can sue the casino if you can prove you were scammed. However, most of these casinos are offshore and registered in Panama or somewhere like that.

In online casinos, it's often just to show the users that they are licensed to make them look legit. It helps the reputation and user's trust somehow but you know how costly it is to sue them.  Creating a scam report in bitcointalk is worth doing to ruin the casino's rep than suing a casino that you know you won't be seeing on the court.

I agree with your statement.

The problem with suing an online gambling website is the platform on how you would be able to sue them. Suing an international entity requires both resources and time, which are very costly on your part, unless the amount scammed is relatively huge. If you have issues with a certain gambling website, try to first reach out if they have a respective representative in this forum. If it proves futile, then feel free to drop a scam accusation + substantial evidence in order to alert users about their schemes.
1337  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I found a Bitcoin restaurant in my neighborhood on: December 26, 2022, 05:47:42 PM
She explained they have some sort of franchise deal and get paid for keeping the ads on the wall but they don't really know how Bitcoin works or how it can positively impact their business. I could sense she wanted to learn what I knew, but it wasn't the time and place for a Bitcoin lecture. Instead, I invited her for Christmas dinner and promised to teach her Bitcoin.
Merry Christmas everyone

Interesting enough that they have decorations of BTC on their restaurant but they do not understand nor accept it as an alternative method. But in all honesty, this kind of movement is definitely worth it for the establishment to gain attraction from its community. Even if they do not accept BTC as payment, the fact still remains that they do recognize and know the existence of BTC, which is definitely more than a thousand of words worth it.

Though that may be the case, inviting someone for dinner is definitely questionable as there are other options that can be exercised (e.g. coffee, lunch, etc.).
1338  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Should your wife or husband know your seed phrase? on: December 26, 2022, 05:07:04 PM
When a man gets married to a woman to become husband and wife, they become one and everyone expects that they can get to share everything with each other. I know of women who have the passwords to their husbands bank cards and they can make withdrawals on his behalf. I will like to ask the Men here if they have shared their seed phrase with their wife's? I will like to ask the women here how they will feel if their husbands refuse telling them their seed phrase?

I would definitely tell my wife about the seed phrase of my BTC. Though I am also confident that she will not be able to understand such complexity, telling someone about your savings in the event that something happens to you gives some sort of security for them.

It is like putting all of your resources inside a safe and telling the combination to your partner. It gives them the security to know that you are leaving something in the event that something unexpected happens of you.
1339  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Is this a good plan at all? on: December 25, 2022, 05:17:50 PM
Crypto gambling keeps growing faster than Fiat gambling, it's good to see that the masses now favours crypto for gambling than using Fiat but the only issue I have with crypto is the security, data breach and co so I want to know if hiding my IP on a crypto gambling website is secure? I am going with a premium sub of express VPN. If you think otherwise please tell me.

Beware, however, if you plan on using VPN if you want to hide your IP as there are certain prohibitions under the TOS of a gambling website. If they specifically mention the prohibition on the use of VPNs, then you are at risk of your funds in that gambling website since they may confiscate it anytime for breach of their TOS. I

f you have some fears about data breach and security, then better visit a physical casino. If the latter option is not available, then there are various online gambling websites that have been around for years now with proven track-record of their safety and security.
1340  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: If your friend would tell you this... on: December 25, 2022, 04:55:18 PM
If your friend would tell you hey bud I have 10k in BTC lets try to make it 65k. You play on the casino for me.
How would you play? what would be your game pattren?

Id probably do 1 game of black (20k win) then one game of roullete with 10 numbers = $65k profit.

what would you do

With that amount of money in wager, I would definitely try my luck in various card games and I would definitely avoid slots or anything that absolutely revolves around luck.

While gambling overall is all about luck, there are certain games where you can lessen the risk of absolute luck, like card games where it also involves some skill in order to win. Again, with that amount of money on the line, I would definitely exercise all the means to lessen the risks of the odds going against me.
