.....

It is the single worse loss I have ever had with any coin of any kind.

And when it happened it was only 2x6=12 dollars.

I sent a lot of requests about this to a lot of people and finally gave up.

Could be worse it could be 2 BTC.

I think I lost half a bitcoin back in 2015. My worst loss. Live and learn.
That sucked. It was like $100 at the time. I just shrugged and chalked it up to cost of playing with fire.

If I knew in 2015 that btc would be at 25K 8 years later (with 69K peak), I would max up the credit cards (or used my 401a funds), obviously.
But...you never know. I am saying that in both cases losses could have been easily remedied at the very moment they occurred, right?

We always have regrets for something that could have been bought small and then blew up gigantically.
I bought quite a few AAPL shares in 1997, but sold them in 2000 when we entered the bear.
Made about 10X, 'lost' another 180X of appreciation, was actually thinking of re-entering at what is now $0.32 (split adjusted) in 2002, but somehow did not.
Does this eat me: absolutely not because you cannot reverse time. I am telling this just as an anecdote.
Your decisions are part of your life. You never know what you would have done with those 2 eth and/or 0.5 btc, right?.
I am almost 100% sure that I wouldn't have held AAPL for another 23 years as I am not Warren Buffet, but, subconsciously, maybe I have learned something like this:
never sell your winning investments because they could keep on winning for decades.

...

I have two stuck coins I have been trying to free since 2016.

What's up with them? Why are they stuck?

mEth not btc

it happen when morons forked chain to fix the fuckup in 2016

it was pretty painful to see them sitting there when mEth approached 5k.

When it happened meth was at six dollars.

I did not bother trying to unlock the bad wallet no time for 2x6=12 bucks which was what they were worth.

At this time I think my clones of the wallet are all corrupted and I pretty much gave up on trying to get the wallet unlocked.

Are the wallet clones corrupted because of storage media problems, or something else?

it was a meth wallet on a mac.

They had a know synching issue when moving the wallet past the “correction” of the exploit

I worked at it for months in 2017 when meth took off and the 12 bucks had turned into say 2600.

I dont even know where I put the old clones.

All these years with btc I never lost a coin or fraction of a coin.

actually the meth was the only coins ever lost by me.

In my case mr v can either die of natural causes or apologize via pm and give me 2 coins.

Single biggest reason I do not give two shits about eth.

I have a longer list why they suck but thats for a different thread.

a strange story...maybe some unusual wallet.

How the DCA army will drive a $1 million Bitcoin price.

Quote
The entire supply of bitcoin will eventually go to the zealot DCA army, bringing enough fiat into BTC that fiat ceases to exist.

Some people in bitcoin speak like it is some kind of a cult.
Does it matter? Not really, as there there could be all kinds of justifications to buy bitcoin.
If someone wants to proselytize the "DCA army", so be it.
Not my cup of tea, though.

Dislike that fooking team (..and its hysterical coach)... build up on middle east oil billions.

It's Sunday already somewhere (like Japan)...

...

It's strange, from my perspective, but if you are making hundreds of millions, if not billions every year, then what to spend (waste) it all on?

...

These.

haha, maybe I should reconsider what i thought about the drab some homeless are wearing around here.
Maybe some of them are into Balenciaga jeens, perhaps.  Cheesy

For those who are interested in geopolitics..quite a sobering read:

https://www.politico.com/news/magazine/2023/06/09/america-weapons-china-00100373

My hope remains that it would not come to blows...or my upcoming (in a few years) retirement would be utterly ruined.
The question is, though, why the f-k did we de-industrialize to the extent that we did?

'Member these winners from Apple that nobody bought?

Dude, that company has a 2.85 tril market cap.
Obviously, it had something that people wanted.
Jeez....I just go with what I want with price considerations being secondary....never bought a pro tower, though....no need.
Additionally, their hardware lasts (typically).

EDIT: It's an interesting philosophical question. Why people buy $5-6 coffee at starbucks when they can make as good a coffee at home for maybe 30c a cup? Is it a habit or a need to socialize with others who are maybe "well off". I was reading an article about designer clothes and bags in particular. It said that you can easily distinguish between a $100 and $3000 bag, but only people rich enough to buy $40 thou bags can distinguish between those and 3K bags. Same with watches. Some watches are to measure time or for decoration, but there are some that are just a status symbol. There are watches that cost multiple millions. It's strange, from my perspective, but if you are making hundreds of millions, if not billions every year, then what to spend (waste) it all on? Not every one of them could have a sports team.

OT: wow, Messi to Inter Miami?!
That team is LAST (15th) in the US MLS Eastern conference.
I guess it can only improve, right?
A bit strange...probably attracted by some big sponsorship deals and ability to become a part owner.
Inter Miami plays at a 18K seats stadium...far from the size of Park de Prence (48K) or Camp Nou (99.3K).
Oh, well.

A mirror image, so that's UP, right?
Nevermind...red candles, but then it is an impossibru pic.

EDIT: btw, the fact that i would need to order prescription inserts makes me less enthusiastic about the whole 'thing'.
What if i have multiple people with glasses in my household? Keep changing the inserts? Ridiculous.

If someone wants to check the 'source' of SEC/Coinbase:

https://www.sec.gov/litigation/complaints/2023/comp-pr2023-102.pdf

The 'dirty dozen' list for Coinbase is different from Binance: SOL, ADA, MATIC, FIL, SAND, AXS, CHZ, FLOW, ICP, NEAR, VGX, DASH, and NEXO—(the “Crypto Asset Securities”).

So, ATOM, MANA, COTI, BNB and BUSD are dropped (the last two probably because they are not on CB anyway),  but CHZ, FLOW, ICP, NEAR, VGX, and DASH are added.

Conclusion: make your own.

Hot take:

We live in a strange dystopia where one of the biggest/most profitable Tech companies in the world announces their first new product in 9 years:

A VR headset that 99.9999% of society doesn't want, never asked for and will never buy.

Talk about tone deaf.

I'm starting the believe that the more RnD money you lose as a Tech company, the more profitable you actually become.

Bizarro World.

It's all relative. $3499 in a few mo is like 2k a few years back.
Peeps like Bill Gates were also snickering about the $599 iphone in 2008.
Personally, barring discomfort with the band and overheating, I like the 'toy".
I have the Quest, but you really sweat in it if doing something like table tennis game.
We all stopped using it after a few months.

You predict that they won't sell 10K of them, I would say 300K-500K year 1, much more later.
I think it could make a great trading station....naughty apps would follow too.
G-d, i suddenly have a mental image of Gareth Soloway in it, trying to short btc......brrrrr

I've been waiting for Binance to be targeted as soon as the FTX situation blew up and regulators realized that Binance did the exact same thing as FTX, but they were able to survive a cycle doing so and became insanely wealthy as a result.  Looks like now that regulators have caught on, they are going to be looking to take a piece of flesh from CZ.  This is in no way a positive development for Bitcoin in the short term, and we're already seeing the start of the pain, but long term I think if we want to see Bitcoin hit the high 6 figures, it is absolutely necessary to weed out the bad actors in the space, and Binance is just FTX with a first mover advantage.

Who is a good actor among exchanges?
Some say that they are, but they got NO volume, like Gemini.
Congress needs to pass some laws pronto or, else, american exchanges can be shut down and US would lose whatever they did not lose yet (in this space).
755  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: June 05, 2023, 04:44:21 PM
Interesting...SEC came up with a 'dirty dozen' list of "securities":

BNB, BUSD, SOL, ADA, MATIC, FIL, ATOM, SAND, MANA, ALGO, AXS, COTI (see page 85 of the doc).

Interesting omissions include XRP and ETH.
Make your own conclusions from this.

A am glad that we passed the debt ceiling in US, but every rational person should ask themselves: where is it all going?
The debt number is going vertical and we are now paying something above $700 bil/yearly in interest in US alone.
My children are bitter that they cannot afford to buy a house and I don't want to "spoil" them by doling cash for that (they could inherit later on, of course).
Quite a dilemma.

However, I don't have a feeling that we are early, maybe because I went through all these bitcoin up and down gyrations in the last 10 years and have some regrets of not being a nimble trader during those years. Similarly, I did not feel that AAPL, AMZN and GOOG were "early" in 2011, but they went up 15X (AAPL), 12x (AMZN), 8X (GOOG) since then and this is, perhaps, instructive.

Time will show if we are, indeed, early, but a gigantic 'plateau' for decades at some point is also possible (with ever diminishing "pulse" from the successive halvings), even though most don't expect it.

Apparently, markets are about to lose a bit more than 1 tril in liquidity.
https://finance.yahoo.com/news/trillion-dollar-treasury-vacuum-coming-135944792.html

Lyn Alden was suggesting that bitcoin price actually correlates the best with the liquidity waves.
If you put both statements together, then it is possible that we might decline somewhat between now and Sept-Oct.

But, it's just a conjecture...there is less than a year to halving in April 2024...at some point between now and then we shall reach at least 35-40K, imho.
The trajectory from here to there could be either smooth or bumpy, we shall see.

Brace for a big old collapse that is going to make 2007-2009 look like a walk in the park.

I thought the same, but my timing in VIX call purchases was not great....so far  Cheesy

did coinbase customers info got [partially] leaked?
peeps are reporting 'i got you' messages:

https://www.reddit.com/r/Bitcoin/comments/13tedzc/should_i_sent_a_dick_pic_back_to_assert_my/

I am not sure how it's related to Coinbase. I saw the email address was Coinbase@pro.space. But this is the received email. If a user uses their email on the internet, it's not hard for a scammer to collect email information from the internet and use them for their purposes. The email they got is pretty much an old scam. I am surprised these scam attempts still work, and people fall for it. The scammers send the same email to thousands of emails. One Reddit member said the Bitcoin address he received from a scammer to pay; he already got five $400 transactions. This means five people got scammed.

I did not see anyone commenting on whether they are Coinbase users.

Life is a series of IQ tests.

it was 20 thou years ago and that's why we got so smart...it ain't now and that's why we are getting progressively dumb and dumberer...I have a front view as i see the level of students' intellect and preparation with a noticeable downslope in the last 12-15 years, accelerating after 2020. From my point of view, i don't see how it could be reversed. I don't know what is causing it, and why there is no urgent alarm sounded so far. We are on the way to 'idiocracy', maybe governed by the AI 'overloads'. I am sorry to paint a bleak picture...maybe someone has an explanation...I would like to hear it.
