Mate, you are not averse to mining alts. I'm doing pretty nicely on my coin of choice at the moment with an SP10 and 2 x BFL singles.
i'm outperforming BTC by quite a bit - however there will still be blinkered and unimaginative trolls flooding the thread here demanding to know about ROI and some of us will still get swept up by it - that's the entire purpose of a troll, to spread FUD and limit business.

I'll say it again, while the SP30 still sells at $5k, it's a profitable investment, whether that is a fact which is appreciated or not, is not really my concern.
It just shows that some people are unable to do the slightest bit of research and will always remain blinkered and narrow minded.
Yes, cash out to BTC at every chance you get, by all means - doesn't mean you are shackled and bound to mine BTC - which some seem to be.

Saying the SP30 will be profitable is like telling the future. I'm an open minded person but in the years I've been alive I'm pretty sure no one can really predict the future.

DPS2000-BB.  These PSU's are rock solid.  I run 5 Neptune boxes off each one.  No issues whatsoever. Smiley

And guess what? Those are the kind of power supplies Spondoolies come with, already built in for the customer.

Kind of shows you who's in the game thinking about things.

couldn't resist...

Looks like I'm going to be fiddling with setting up a couple Neppies on Maui, and we have the ax1200's already, lol. Oh well.

I guess you don't read new  posts. This was posted about two pages back and repeated twice already.

In all this euphoria of those who have - finally - received their miners, I still want to point those who are still waiting for their refunds to another posting in the KnC-forum.

Many of those who asked for a refund received a response saying that they are very busy working on this and that the procedure is more complicated than we all would guess, however, without telling us what this complicated procedure is.

Now, that they are shipping out their hardware, the "excuse" by lie-bot "Kurt" sounds as follows:

Quote
We are currently in the production and shipping phase with the Neptune miners and our main priority and focus is on shipping the miners to customers as quickly as possible. Due to this extremely busy period the processing of refunds will be taking longer.

So he basically says that the bookkeeper is shipping or assembling Neptunes? Or that sending out Neptunes is a lot of work for the bookkeeper? That is, IMHO, pure crap.

On the other hand, it is a perfect evidence that KnC is withholding the funds on purpose and not because they are overloaded with work. No bookkeeper in a multi-million-operation would be overloaded by work because 500 parcels are sent out.

So now it isn't a question anymore if it is a B2B-deal or not. It is clear that KnC is fraudulent. So the more people file a legal complaint, the more likely it is that all those who may have damaged Neptunes or Neptunes which will not work properly (including possible hazard) can also file a lawsuit for fraud.

I really really strongly encourage all who are waiting for refunds to send a letter to the police in Sweden. Copy the legal department of the Swedish embassy in your country.

Apparently the accounts payable is involved in shipping now and packing up boxes. Did this company ever hear of departments? KNC just couldn't create a normal miner. They have to make this confusing miner that consists of multiple boxes, a single controller and short data cables. If I ever received a box like that I'd say to myself YEA, I just received 5 Neptune's!!!! Going forward they need to eliminate product names and just sell hashing power. God only knows if there was, what the next product would be. Maybe 10 large silver boxes. 15 boxes?
765  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: SP30 Cost recouping was Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 26, 2014, 04:45:50 AM
All the ROI calculators indicate you most likely won't break even on an SP30 September batch. If you end up hosting it, then that's a definite not it will break even. I was being conservative with the diff increase also. Their SP10 is a great machine, but I was able to put that online 5 days after paying for it.
766  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 26, 2014, 04:39:14 AM
There are plenty of ROI calculators out there. Some let you input all sorts of data and you'll be able to exactly see if any miner will make its money back. While there are some variables which we don't know the exact numbers, most of the time breaking even is much harder than it was 1-2 years ago. Tips to making sure you ROI:
Don't pre-order
Get a discount on the hardware
Don't host it
Try for free electricity
Keep the rig running efficiently. (clean those fan blades)

**Originally posted in SP30 group-buy thread (https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=575499.msg7499925#msg7499925)**

I just returned from a trip to Israel last week and was lucky enough to drop by the Spondoolies-Tech office.  All of the staff were all very friendly and I was treated very warmly.  Their office is located in a high-tech area of Israel, with their building right next to HP and Intel offices.  It is in a clean and secure facility.  I was able to meet with Guy (CEO), Kobi (COO), and Gadi (VP Marketing and Sales) - http://www.spondoolies-tech.com/pages/team.  I was shown and took a picture of the SP30 unit (without ASICs - http://imgur.com/elpsFfC).  Everyone I dealt with was intelligent, competent, and has a very forward-looking view of the company and bitcoin technologies.  IMO this seems to be the best team with the best product in the bitcoin mining hardware space.  I have been very satisfied with my SP10 units and am looking forward to receiving my SP30 in August.  If you dont have one on order yet get it while you can!

Sorry, August batch was closed a long time ago, so telling people to go ahead and order one isn't very informative. There also have been discussions about any high priced pre-order would ever break even. After you come down from from your visiting high, run some numbers and you'll see what all this means. Have fun.

6TH/s @ 2,500W for $5,000 (8.8 BTC) in September.

Assume delivery on September 1st. (optimistic)
Assume low electricity cost of 5c/kWh
Assume difficulty increases of 15% per period (conservative, we're currently 4 days from an estimated jump of 29%).

The result? A net loss of 0.7 BTC before turning it off in June 2015.

What am I missing here?

+ $300 for freight shipping.

Is it ok to use "Peripheral - IDE/SATA" PSU slots to connect to a Jupiter (6-pin PCI):

In particular, can I connect four of these 6-pin cables into a Jupiter:
http://www.moddiy.com/products/6%252dPin-PSU-Modular-Power-Cable-to-PCI%252dE-%2830cm%29.html

connected with the four 6-pin Peripheral - IDE/SATA PSU slots on this power supply on the left:
https://i.imgur.com/zC4AhUu.jpg

Or are the Peripherals/IDE/SATA NOT to be used?

The power supply on the left has 4 12-pin connectors, but one of them is fried (bottom right corner). So, I'm wondering if instead it's possible to use the 6-in PSU slots that say "Peripheral - IDE/SATA" on it and connect them to the four 6-pin cables of the Jupiter? Thank you

I have the same psu as you...fried a cable too as well...i think its cause they used cheap cables and using 2 off one plug wasn't good...wish i used all 4 plugs and i probably wouldn't have fried that plug Sad

dunno if you could...but you could always just open up the psu and solder wires directly to use that pcie plug...

I have ALWAYS spent more money on Seasonic and have always had good luck. I think they make the best power supplies on the market. I've bought and used just about every other brand and all have failed abnormally.

770  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 26, 2014, 03:32:49 AM
This debate is a joke.

Basically, mining is a hedged investment on Bitcoin, and your profit is lower but your risk is also lower than purely investing in Bitcoin.

Furthermore, you help stabilize and secure the network aswell as verify transactions.

Buy and hold is nice, and many miners also do this, but the positive impact on the Bitcoin system is very limited.

You can mine and do all the things you suggest AND recover your costs or you can mine and not recover your costs.

Which would *YOU* rather do Collider ?

Without profit mining is dead. When mining dies, the network dies.

This is why honest ROI discussions are so important. The future of bitcoin depends on mining being economically sustainable.

Those vendors who avoid ROI discussions, take advantage of people's ignorance or otherwise exploit their customers are doing bitcoin a grave disservice. Its easy to talk the talk, how many of them are walking the walk ?

Mine manufacture's are constantly exploiting newbie miners for more sales. There will be plenty of guys at home getting the stink by their wife and both wondering when they're going to make any money, even $10.
771  Bitcoin / Group buys / Re: [OPEN] Spondoolies-Tech SP30 - Specs: 6TH/s + 0.46W/GH on: June 24, 2014, 05:25:39 PM
Is it August yet? I lay hands on the SP30 today at the SPTECH booth it was packed with looky loos and I got to feel the heft of the psu's. Seems there is plenty of interest from partipants for SP30s and beyond. Panel tomorrow will be a fun one. There is a lot of mutual respect among the panelists and I dare say there is also some sense that there are many benefits to more collaboration across the mining community particularly East West.

have fun mate, wish I was there to hear it all.

After I report back to my mates about all the meetings I've had I will certainly write something up regarding the opportunities available. Plenty of exciting aspects mining wise but also, pool, exchanges, cloud mining and even derivative trading. But after spending a few minutes at SPTech booth if you are a 1st time customer all the hype is true. These guys are building some of the best equipment by far... their chips are way out front as well only whatever Bitfury has in the pipeline can compete with what is coming out after the SP30.  I think mining come 2015 will be a fun time for all.

What about the guy at home? See any options for him as in old school mining or is that all changing to Internet based contracts?
772  Bitcoin / Pools / Re: *** GHash.IO mining pool official page *** on: June 24, 2014, 05:16:46 PM
Bitcoin gives us the freedom to chose where we want to mine our rigs at. I don't have a bank or some authority saying I can't do this or can't do that. When someone tells me not to do something I'm more inclined to actually do it.

773  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 24, 2014, 05:04:30 PM
We'll ship continuously, non stop, in August and September.

When would you ship a September SP30 pre-order placed today ?

Is it true that you are considering lowering the price on the SP30 to the $4K range in a new group buy ?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=656170.0

This should be answered.

Watch out boys, only approved comments are allowed in this so called 'self-moderated' SPT thread. I think we need a new thread just for Spondooles ROI discussions.

Although this thread is self-moderated, we don't delete comments. This thread should be kept for hardware related questions, per the subject. The mods are enforcing it, without our request, but with our consent.
You're welcome to do ROI discussions elsewhere.

Guy

But are you participating in those other threads regarding ROI discussions and such?

775  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 24, 2014, 04:47:25 PM
Bedroom? How old are you? Do you just rent a room or a house or something? You have BIG balls if you are going to run an SP30 in a room. First it's huge. Double the size of the SP10 and weighs quite a bit. When shipped, it is considered "freight" and not a package because it weighs so much. I have 100 amp service, could get away with running my SP10 but the noise was too much. I can just see you....when trying to wash clothes have to turn the miners off, then switch back real quick after the last load. Is you stove electric to? Yikes, can't make that mac-n-cheese when mining away! Smiley

100 amps isn't really much, I had that running in a tiny GPU farm in a small office. With the right cooling in place, it was nearly silent. If someone wanted to run an SP30 in a bedroom, I'm sure they could do it, and with the right mods it could be done well.

Not sure where you are in the world, but most american homes use 200-300 amp service.

Newer homes  built in the US are more efficient and don't require amperage like the in the past. That's why you see 100 AMP service for a normal size 3 bedroom 2 bath house now. My house was built in the year 2000, which is considered new in the housing world and came with 100amp service. If the house was 20 years old, I bet it would have 200-300 amp panel in the basement.
776  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 24, 2014, 01:43:37 PM

perhaps it's not the miner which is a bad deal, but how the buyer uses it.

I have $5095

Option A: buy 8.5 bitcoin today

Option B: buy a 6 TH/s miner with delivery in september that will mine back in its lifetime less than 5 bitcoin (and thats assuming it is delivered beginning of september). Oh, and you still have to pay for power and rewiring your house.

Please do enlighten us all and tell us how a buyer could go for option B and possibly be better off than option A? What is your magic secret?

It is timing right now. Because KNC is dumping their Neptune's and adding a gooooooglemess of hashrate to the network it is not the best time to pre-order anything that cost $5095 and then you get it 2 months later. Also a couple other smaller companies selling hardware, not as quickly or in mass, but still getting it out there. You can't really lose then if you just buy the bitcoin. I always think in my mind it will go up, so that's why I say buy it!

If I can't get an SP30 at a ridiculously low price, then I'll just buy a few bitcoin and run my current hardware until it is not profitable, that's all. I'd love to stay in the mining community, but as I said before this summer is the last time for consumers. Going forward it all goes to the corporate fat assess and cloud based solutions, which will be a total scam. Think about it, why would a cloud hashing company sell/lease you any tera-hashes and let you actually make any money from it? I wish I had better writing skills to explain what's in head.

Neptune Third Batch 3.3TH/S for $6000. Delivery unknown.

Or

Spondoolie SP30 6TH/S for $5095 and these come with power supplies. Delivery September.

And I missing something?

6TH and comes with power supplies. 2 x 2500 watt supplies? Going to have to put it in a data center. No way you can run it in your garage unless you do some major electrical work.

6TH spon is only 2500 watts, pretty efficient.  But will only mine 4 BTC if it comes in beginning September  =:0

I was told they will try to ship them out around the 2nd week of September. So it is at least the 2nd week. Could be the 3rd or 4th.

Nope, The SP30 is indeed a better deal, way better.

there is a group buy thread for a sp30 at 4500 getting started...i think it is the 2nd batch sept order?

on the other hand perhaps BTC ...just buy coin already is the better deal right now...awful lot of hash hitting the blockchain etc

2 1250 w power supplies me thinks?

on a side note i have a sept sp30 coming (yeah prob should have just bought coin) and a Titan so 2500w for sp30 and 1250 watts for the Titan.  Anyway hosting it in my cold
upper midwest basement (will likely need a/c in Aug/Sept)

anyway have a 100 amp service called elec inspector (have no central a/c and gas water heater etc) and he said it would have no problem on a 100 amp service even
running 3,750 watts on miner and 1 a/c unit in my bedroom and maybe a  small a/c unit in the basement casement window..just to monitor it..i live aloine also lite use
can be 'creative' on clothes drying and/or using the stove/oven if needed

so 'supposedly' i should be ok? (the elec company is gonna 'own my ass') also as a side note anyone that is 'inspired/er stupid' enough to host such in their basement the elec company said i could get 'commercial elec rates' in my house (residential neighborhood) ..the fees are more the rates are less I likely will only shave off 3c a kwh or so but what the heck

anyway what i think i know so far on the above (it changes daily what i think i know about stuff)

I don't understand the point of these fake group buys.

Why doesn't spondoolies just offer everyone sp30 for $2500?

Why is their website price double their bulk price?

I would be interested in this but the price is still too high in my opinion. We are talking about September, which is 2 months away.

Also, please remember, almost every bitcoin manufacturer turns to the dark side. I'm not saying SP-TECH will, but every company I know went greedy crazy on us and started pulling bullshit moves and everything just turned into how much money can they suck out of us and as customer service dropped. We'll have to wait and see.
