961  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][GEMZ]| SOCIAL MESSAGING APP THAT PAYS | AirDrop Beta is Live | on: April 20, 2015, 08:29:33 AM
Is gemz a decentralized app? or just the token system?
messaging is completely p2p or saved on a server?

Don't take this as 100% accurate but the app is based on a telegram so your basically using messenger with Telegram so they use end to end encryption, you could find more detail reading about Telegram.

The token is based on counterparty so again if you want to know about that then go to counterparty, but yes its decentralised.

There is some element of decentralised for the airdrop and maintenance of the app, how much that is I don't know. but your communication and your tokens are ultimately not actually based on the app but the two projects I mentioned. So for all intents and purposes yes its decentralised with no info stored.

yet another bitcoin2.0 shitcoin
Because the financial technology industry is so lucrative (you won a lottery jackpot if you are lucky in that business), a number of startups are trying to create bitcoin-like alternatives that might be more appealing for the traditional banking industry - and that is nothing new. So of course people are working on bitcoin 2.0 but that have little to do with our 'bitcoin'.

it seems that everything new, related to bitcoin(this shit bitcoin 2.0, altcoin, market adoption ecc yes they are a big dumpers too), it's only aiming to dump it for fiat, they see bitcoin as a rich quick scheme and nothing else, this is why the price can't rise

This, along with Ethereum, are nothing but more super hype IPO scams. They sell it as the next big thing, and they end up never finishing the project because its too ambitious, that is if they ever intended to finish the project tho. They'll end up claiming bankrupcy while keeping all the BTC they sold somewhere.

Literally the only big project that is Legit with capical L is Maidsafe. You can trust David Irvine blindfolded but you can not trust that Russian punk.

So much defensiveness about Bitcoin related projects on here. Yes many are outright scams and money grabs but some will only help Bitcoin. I believe Gems could be the biggest boost for Bitcoin for ages.

Exciting times

Agree. But also for those of you who like me are going bananas waiting for the iOS to drop, here's an encouragement.

Checking the dates, roughly it took 12 days for the iOS to be approved March 25th-April5th based on posts.

So 12 days again will be April 9th-April 20th (Monday) So good news hopefully any time soon.  Cheesy

Daniel,

getgems is a very exciting app.

as an early adopter, I would be interested in two things. I would appriate it if you could open up your views about them.

1) What is a role of Magma VC?

As a community member I think that it would be crucial to be as open as possible about their role.
They have invested 400k on getgems. To my understanding they do not own any gemzs
I am just wondering how they will get their investment back? And how they are helping you in concrete terms?
There is currently very little information about the role of Magma.

2) Advertising platform

Facebook, Google and other centralized operators collect a lot information about their users. If I was interested in fishing, it is no suprise that I would get plenty of fishing equipment adverts when using google, for example. So, in order to make the advertising platform tempting to advertisers, they demand some detailed information about their target group. That is, no one wants to do marketing to random people. Please could you help me to understand how this will work from this perspective?

KR

I hope Daniel if i'm way off can give you a better feedback, he must be pretty busy right now and isn't answering questions much on the thread, but some of these questions have sort of been answered, so I'll regurgitate some of my understanding.

1) I don't know anything about this specifically but as investors they could have some say in the development of the app and project generally and so to some extent GETGEMS is likely 'accountable' to them. They could be sleeping investors but my guess is they handhold fledgling startups in the hope to guide them to mutual success.

Its pretty clear what they do actually as they explain it on their site:

http://www.magmavc.com/about/pre-seed-program.html

The issue of investment returns seems pretty clear also. I expect GETGEMS to still have a profit motive long term and are holding quite a few Gems still. I forget exactly how they will generate income but it has been mentioned before. Maybe someone else can remind us. Don't forget its not really open source as such, Getgems control the app ultimately.

2) Again you'll have to find exactly where it was said but Daniel has said before he envisions a kind of check list of interests that people can tick so they receive the kind of advertising that at least is appropriate IF they decide to receive adverts anyway which will be an option. If only FB did the same instead of trawling though our personal info...

Yes I know it's an altcoin app but you can hold and send BTC as easy as a text message to your contacts, what other app does that?

966  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Active Team Members on: April 13, 2015, 10:07:49 AM
I think NXT with its very involved and busy team created the idea that a busy hardworking team makes a coin. This is ridiculous as NXT was siccessful instantly because it created something no one else had till them.

I have been critical because this coin was so adamant it was going to bring some kind of stupid Communism to Crypto. You guys brought it on yourself and can't evade criticism because you actually were birthed out of extreme criticism of NXT, let's not forget.

But now I feel kind of sorry for NEM. The delusion is thick on this thread as the great SS NemTanic slowly sinks to the bottom.
967  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NeM Stakes - - - so who got what ? Find out here~ on: April 13, 2015, 07:35:22 AM
How many people are needed to unlock the funds with multisig and are they the all big holders?

I'm on the multisig and I have 8 stakes.

And it takes all 6 consigners to send any funds (6 of 6 multisig).

And your team couldn't even give me one, and you wonder why everyone thinks you are all assholes.
968  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Killer Application will be VOTING/POLITICS/GLOBAL on: April 13, 2015, 07:25:52 AM
Bitcoin has enough of a profile that we could stage an alternative Bitcoin election Vote. If anything if the story got covered it would at least plant the seed of the idea of a decentralised vote with the blockchain.

Sometimes big things start from small things and take years to develop.

LET DO IT!

jeez....too much negativity... I want to see these FUDster/critics make their own coins from scratch...

you don't like this coin? dump it and move on...leave the Devs alone

this is a long term HODL....u watch...

bye for now...

NEM is a block chain platform and DAO, not just a coin. XEM is just one part of a larger plan.

Phew! Thank goodness for that, cause as a coin NEM sucks bad. LOL

I had previously suggested you could ski down the NEM chart, my new recommendation is it's not safe anymore, rock climbing maybe.

well said, it's times like these that a person gets to choose how they want to live. Do you leave school early, get the first job you can, then party your paycheck away every week until your 30, or do you knuckle down and lean useful skills while you're young, recognising that most of the time success comes through hard work exerted over a longer time period. If you want to party go to your favorite exchange, sort by volume, then start trading. Don't concern yourself with the merits of the coins you trade, just pick the ones with the highest volumes and trade. You might make some dough. If you're thinking 2-5 years from now, then follow coins like NEM, buy as much as you can afford, then hodl. The choice is that simple.

So you equate working hard and buckling down with betting all your money on a very long shot volatile altcoin. LOL

We want to make the NEM block chain platform like legos, where you can build complex systems using simple parts. If you want a coin on top of it, then you could assemble it from basic components (essentially our colored coin implementation, but we are trying to go beyond standard colored coins).

But how is that different than Nxt?

Our implementation of colored coins will be qualitatively different.

Translation: It will have a different name.

I recently got a new phone and downloaded the getgems app, it asks for a secret passhrase that i do not remember -_-, anyway of retrieving my account?

You didn't save it via taking a photo on your last phone? Check your old phone for the photo or your new one if your photos were transferred.

did you have a lot of gems in it? If not I guess you could always start a new one, nothing lost.

72% of coins are controlled by a half  dozen people involved in the project. It's Ripple

AWESOME!   Grin

Buckle up folks...  we're about to shoot up to 4000 sats!!!   Kiss

I think he was being negative dumbass.

I'm sure NEMofiles think this coin will drop to 50 sats and then shoot to the moon. But let me give a more likely reality. This coin moves sideways for the indefinite future. NO way is anyone gonna trust this coin for any serious amount of time if it rises in price.

Is the airdrop actually going daily now?

I got a one off payment from a few referrals but since then nothing.

NEM will always be in NAS's shadow. Grin
I don't think so. NEM has good beginning, which has new featurers and enhanced security. The dev teams is working hard, dedicated and innovative. If you believe it, why not buy it right now?

So lets just get what your saying straight. You are saying the uptake and use of a coin is based on how dedicated and hardworking the development team is. I see....

Got any evidence that isn't just words strung together for the hell of it?
979  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NEM (XEM) Official Thread -100% Original Codebase - Over 70 Active Team Members on: April 12, 2015, 10:24:53 AM
Well I didn't see this coming.  I thought XEM had promise but this downward slide since launch is disconcerting.  I expected an initial dump but also expected a correction upward that hasn't happened.  There doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan.  Those behind this coin need to get out front and center now to rally the troops.  I'm not selling my stakes but I hate to take a loss and add another blemish to my almost spotless track record of picking coins.  And I'm getting that uneasy feeling that you get when something doesn't feel right.  So is there a plan for this coin and if so what is it?

I have a buy order at 61 on Poloniex. Care to fill it for me?

As for your questions, I don't know where you've been but if anything, NEM errs on the side of overplanning and overtesting and overthinking and overdeveloping and even, overinventing. It's actually kind of funny that you are saying "there doesn't appear to be any kind of game plan." I don't think I've run into a coin with MORE game plan since DNotes.

Are you serious?  The value plunges and you come back with an offer to buy at 1/3rd of the price when the coin launched.  Why would you even make such an absurd post.  There are many people that are wondering what the fuck is going on.  I'll take a loss and not miss a step.  Some won't be lucky enough to have the cushion to write it off.  This is crypto, months don't work.  Where have you been?  Amazing.

Show me a single project that did not have a lower value than at launch 3 weeks after launch.
And factor in that a lot more people have been given coins initially so initial dumping will take longer as many don't check btt regularly.

NXT.
