1121  Economy / Economics / Re: Untouchable Savings: Do you have it? on: February 28, 2023, 09:59:04 PM
You can try to spend less all the time while the future is uncertain. But it wouldn't be right to make the money you save to be untouchable. One that you can do is sell your watch and jewelry to a pawnshop or to your rich friend as your last resort.

It's not good to hide your fiat money these days because inflation will eat up its purchasing power which in the end, you won't be able to buy anything out of it. If there is anything that you could make untouchable savings, its BTC in your private wallet.
Saving does not necessarily mean that you have to save to make it untouchable in the future, instead save so you can have something to spend in the future. And I think a lot are doing this, even preparing theirselves so they won’t have to experience financial problems in the future. However, if you only save to make it untouchable for the rest of your life, that is an absurd mindset, you can’t bring money when you are already in your grave so save now and benefit in it in the future.
1122  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Teaching teenagers about bitcoin. on: February 26, 2023, 11:35:53 AM
You are a big help in making this ecosystem grow. Access to information about Bitcoin should not be limited to countries with reliable internet access. We can always find ways to introduce Bitcoin to others so they can see the opportunities it presents. It may not be easy for some to understand, but with proper education, they can become more interested in learning about Bitcoin and cryptocurrency.

Eventually, as they become more involved in the ecosystem, they will not only learn about Bitcoin, but the entire crypto market. Teenagers should not only focus on enjoying their lives, but also think about their future financial capacity. It is a smart initiative to teach them early so they can mature financially at an earlier age.

GREAT JOB OP!
1123  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Boxing: Errol Spence vs Keith Thurman on: February 26, 2023, 08:50:50 AM

That's the reason why I said that Thurman needs to work and prepare on how to beat Spence Jr., he needs to add more strategy to counter Spence's quick and powerful punches.
Spence may have powerful punches, but I don't think quickness defines him. I even think that the reason why the potential fight against Crawford did not happen is that Spence sees that Crawford has a huge advantage in terms of quickness.

We can't tell if who's going to win as both are capable of throwing solid punches that can bring their opponents down
and kiss the floor. Whatever happens, it's best to see a toe-to-toe confrontations with both fighters, it would be an
additional entertainment for the fans and viewers who will spend money to support the fight.

They will have to fight to determine the winner, but we have our favorite fighter that we are rooting for. As for Spence, he is the favorite of this fight, so it's not surprising that most of the comments favor his advantage to win. However, we have to remember that before Thurman lost to Pacquiao, they were of the same status, or Thurman even had the upper hand.
1124  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2022–23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on: February 26, 2023, 07:49:59 AM
The first game will start in 10 minutes, so get ready with your streaming platform, guys, so we can also start betting live. Phoenix is the underdog, but I think they are capable of winning, as Converge even struggled against Blackwater, which is a bad team. Remember that Phoenix has lots of veterans who have been in this situation many times, so I like their maturity over the talent of Converge. Therefore, I'm taking Phoenix to win the game."
1125  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 26, 2023, 02:39:48 AM
Finally, Kevin Love has already scored as a Miami Heat player. He scored 13 points in a game against the Hornets, but unfortunately it was in a losing effort. I'm not sure if they are just experimenting with Kevin Love, because giving him huge minutes has resulted in two consecutive losses already. Maybe they will make an adjustment, but I'm not sure how long they will stick with this lineup.

Kevin Love was only a reserve player for the Cavaliers, but now with the Heat, he is a starter. This is a huge difference and I don't know what Coach Spoelstra sees in him.
1126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Tank Davis vs. Ryan Garcia betting and discussion (May, 2023) on: February 25, 2023, 12:36:27 PM
^^ Yeah, should be in Vegas for that week and it will be huge for the city again as gamblers are going to flock on the city and probably there will be whales along the way to put a bet on this fight and play on casinos as well.

Davis still the huge favorite here, as I have initially, imagine what will be store for us if this two finally do their weigh in and face off. For sure as their is animosity between this two, there will be a lot of bad mouthing and hearing expletive words in the press conference.

I think the OP has to change the date on the thread title. Instead of May, they should put April 2023, as that's the official month when this fight is going to happen. Since this is a big fight, there will surely be a huge limit on it, and both whales and typical bettors will certainly watch this fight. However, since I cannot go, I will just buy the PPV and bet live. I will still be entertained, I guess.

Oh ok, I initially thought that April-May is not feasible but I guess both camps are really eager to make this fight as early as April. And yes, gambling capital is the best bet for this fight to take place, win win for both Ryan and Tank as both of their fans can travel to watch the fight.

Definitely, if you buy the PPV for sure you will enjoy it, there could be under cards that is great to watch. Upcoming fighters that wanted to make a name for themselves. So change in the odds, Davis still the betting favorite.

If you want to do some free streaming, there are certainly plenty of illegal options, but they might not provide the best experience. So, it's okay to spend a bit on PPV. Watch it with your friends and family, and don't forget to place a bet on this specific fight. As for the undercards, I don't know who will be fighting, but they add value to the event, and I will certainly still watch them.
1127  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenco - May 20 on: February 25, 2023, 11:32:39 AM
Lomachenko has predicted that Tank Davis will win against Garcia.

2023 Vasiliy Lomachenko favors Gervonta Davis over Ryan Garcia, talks Fury vs Usyk

Quote
On a Gervonta Davis vs Ryan Garcia matchup
“I said before it’s very interesting fight. It depends how they prepare for this fight. If they prepare 100%, both, it will be very interesting and very hard for both, tough for both. Because they understand boxing and I think, my opinion, Gervonta Davis will win.

“He’s very technical, he has the power, he has the speed, and he knows how he needs to move. And he always fight with guys who are (taller) than him.”

I've also read some posts suggesting that Ryan Garcia doesn't like Lomachenko's prediction and would like to fight Lomachenko after he knocks out Tank Davis. What do you think - is Garcia being too disrespectful by making Lomachenko's prediction too personal?
Lomachenko could probably beat Ryan Garcia but that fight will not happen for another 2 years and Lomachenko will be further from his prime and I would give Ryan Garcia the edge because he will develop experience and only get better. Lomachenko can only get worse. Loma wins against Devin Haney and probably pushes to get this Ryan Garcia fight because it will be another big pay check before he retires but I do not think he is taking his career too seriously. He is just fighting so he can earn as much money before he retires. I do not know if he will win against Devin Haney but if he does I think that is the path he will take and will retire shortly after the Ryan Garcia fight.

Ryan Garcia might not be interested in Loma if he loses against Haney. Ryan Garcia always looks for big fights that will give him more attraction and money, and I'm sure he is confident enough that he will beat Tank Davis. But let's see if that will happen.

Right now, all he can do is use his loud mouth to attract the attention of fans. But once he suffers a defeat, that kind of marketing strategy will no longer be useful for him.
1128  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: NBA 2020-2021 betting on: February 25, 2023, 10:54:43 AM
The Hornets spoiled my parlay for the night. Bad news for the Bucks as well as Giannis left the game with a knee injury. They were able to get the win though. Warriors and Suns also took home wins with the end of the Suns game getting pretty chippy between players as Chris Paul did his annoying thing.

Was nice to see Kevin Love playing for the Heat but he missed all his shots so his first point for the Heat will have to wait.
Apparently, that Cavaliers team that was champion in 2016 literally disintegrated with the Kevin Love exit.
No, it was just one game. I'm sure they'll get over it whatever they are feeling right now as they are a good team this season. They have a leader in Mitchell, and although he has failed many times in the playoffs, who knows, he might win a championship with the Cavaliers.

By the way, you guys are not alone, I confess... the Hornets also spoiled my bets.

Soon, we will have the game between Heat and Hornets, I believe it will be an interesting game, and mainly, let's see if Love will score his first points for the Miami Heat.
I'm just lucky I stayed away from this game, and even luckier because I won my bet on the Knicks. All the while, I was cheering for the Wizards to win, thinking I bet on them, but I was surprised to have a win because my actual bet was on the Knicks. The Wizards could have won that game if they didn't give up their huge lead.
1129  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Binance's 98% Dominance: Should We Be Worried? on: February 24, 2023, 09:48:19 PM
Nope. Volume dominance clearly shows that Binance is the most trusted exchange right now but it doesn’t give much concerned since their founder is clearly dox and will not runaway. If ever he will runaway, There’s no way he can hide all those coin away from the public eyes.

I believe the only that concerns me is the decreasing number of interest on other exchange which might be a cause for some exchange to go under since there will be income.
Seeing the dominance of Binance is not giving me such worries. But my worries are for those new traders who will immediately trust exchanges and put their life savings on it without knowing the high risk of losing them all one day. Because as long as they are centralized exchanges, they will never be reliable to keep safe our money no matter how reputable those exchanges are.
1130  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Some Common Mistakes Made by New Crypto Investors on: February 24, 2023, 09:20:46 PM

-Lack of Basic Crypto Knowledge: Some people are drawn to cryptocurrency because of the excitement and profits associated with it. As a result, people become obsessed with making money and fail to understand how it works. Without the proper understanding, you run the risk of losing your assets quickly.
I categorize everything in this first one; basic knowledge is the key to every success; if a beginner waits patiently and learns the basic knowledge and experience about anything, it will be easier and the losses will be minimal because he/she will know the right and wrong things involved, as well as the risks involved. Furthermore, the new knowledgeable investor would need to learn about keys and addresses, as well as how to keep his or her private key safe.
Without basic knowledge, there’s always high chances to fall and losing them everything in the end. Because the fact that you are not aware on how to work on your investment, and how to make it successful, then you will always bound to create mistakes and failures which will eventually cause your investment to collapse. That is why if an investor is still clueless and has no gained ideas on how to make it work, better not to pursue on investing.
1131  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How do you keep your gambling habit under control? on: February 24, 2023, 08:44:43 PM
No such thing as a strategy but rather just force ourself to become responsible and disciplined at all times. There's no other choice as the one we are handling here in order to control our gambling activity is none other than ourselves.

The emotions and excitement we feel during winning keeps us more motivated to continue gambling since nothing beats the happiness when we are winning especially big. The same goes for losing especially in a losing streak, our adrenaline keeps pumping to play more to chase those losses.

The only time a gambler stops is when there's nothing really left in their balance or out of options to fund their account.

Well said mate. There’s no wrong with gambling as long as we play it more responsibly and with discipline. Because the only reason it becomes uncontrolled to us is that we tend to play because of greed and excitement especially if we are in the verge of winning. Most likely, we will chase more of our luck to attract more profits, and that behavior alone is never good on controlling our gambling habit. The reason why we should never gamble if we are in need of huge amount of money because for sure, we will always take every chances to win, and yet still end up losing them everything.
1132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I gave investment advice to my grandfather. on: February 24, 2023, 07:59:26 PM
My grandfather has some wealth. Now my grandfather will invest all his wealth in Bitcoin. I told my grandfather not to invest all your wealth in Bitcoin. I suggested to my grandfather that Bitcoin not only has the potential for profit, but also the potential for loss. So you invest some wealth in Bitcoin. You don't have to sit on the street if your investment suffers.

My only question to all, was I able to give my grandfather the right advice??
Your advice is just right. Never let him invest all in with bitcoin. There are more possibilities that he will only lose them all knowing he is not an experienced investor, and that bitcoin investment is still new for him. And before he will take the risk investing with bitcoin, let him educate first on how bitcoin works and how he can avoid the risks of losing. He can do investing as much as he want but at his current age condition, I guess it won’t be easy for him to manage all the pitfalls that might come his way.
1133  Economy / Economics / Re: Are people really having the wrong concept of savings? on: February 23, 2023, 09:54:10 PM
"Are people really having the wrong concept of savings?" This topic and question was triggered earlier this morning after writing on two separate threads where it seems people are already misunderstanding the concept of saving
saving according to Google search from Banco Central de la República Argentina |
"Saving is the portion of income not spent on current expenditures. In other words, it is the money set aside for future use and not spent immediately."
The word "use"(spend) is the key word of concentration because it seems people talk so much of savings as if one isn't supposed to use their saving even until death and I began to wonder what the purpose of saving really is.
We ought save money so money will save us and some also say that we out to save for raining days and we should know that out raining days might differ and one should be free to use their savings and not feel they're doing something wrong when using their hard earned savings.
 What's your concept of savings?
Not really. As long as people learn to save, I believe it’s best for them so they can prepare for their expenses in the next months or years ahead. But to think that savings are considered untouchable savings, it maybe untouchable for now but will still be used in the future. Unless if the person saves for no reason at all, that could be untouchable as long as he want.
1134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Life's first investment in Bitcoin by selling bicycles on: February 23, 2023, 09:05:38 PM
Welcome to the BitcoinTalk forum.
If you intend to invest in bitcoin in any legitimate way, then you are in the right place. Judging by your posts and merit points, it appears to me that you are doing well to be here. Good luck
I encourage and salute you for your courage to sell your bike to start investing with a small amount. This will be like a demo account to understand the basics of investing in a practical way and for a small amount. But the amount is too small to diversify your portfolio. I really hope that you will earn twice the amount you invested so that you can at least buy a new bike, so there is no problem in diversifying your savings.
I advise you first to look at the various topics that provide explanations on how to use a private wallet (not on Binance) and how to save your savings yourself. Secondly, never venture into investing what you fear of losing, no matter how safe that investment may seem to you.
Well, as long as your bicycle is not useful to you anymore, then it’s a good decision to sell and invest in bitcoin. But still, invest on the amount you can afford to lose. As bitcoin investment has still high risk of losing especially if you are not ready to invest for long term. Furthermore, do not keep your money in an exchange, whether you keep it on highly trusted exchange or not, still the risk of losing will always be there. Use an exchange if you plan to trade, but the rest of your money should be place on your non-custodial wallet so you can keep them safely for how long you want.
1135  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: My father thinks I'm working in a shop,he didn't know I'm bitcointalking. on: February 23, 2023, 08:48:08 PM
Technology has made life somehow easy for us today. In the days of our father, they had no idea about working online, all their work to make money were done physically, and with strength, either they engaged in mini or mega business that will provide money for them.We thank God for bitcoin, that came as a messiah,to enrich the hopeful. Now my father asks me about my shop, and where it's located,I told him I'm bitcointalking, and he doesn't know what I'm talking. What do yours tell you?
You should be more concise explaining your source of income to your father so he will know what you are really into. Anyway, I don’t think bitcointalking will be consider a stable job so you should not depend on it solely. If you can get a stable job, that will be a lot better. If not, then work on other side jobs so that you will gain additional income aside from bitcointalking. Most especially if you are a family man, at least getting two to three jobs will make your family live comfortably. But of course, hone your skills first so that your application will be accepted.
1136  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Is trading good for beginners? on: February 23, 2023, 06:54:43 PM
Someone met me and we were had a conversation on trade and he told me that he has used all he has been saving for trading and asked me if he can make something out of it and I asked him if he had any knowledge about it and he said no.

My question is can someone that doesn't have any knowledge about trading and how the system work can he or she trade and be profitable in it? Since at some points it has some compliments bof luck.
After some time of discussion, he has been told that it's just for them to choose on the candles sticks if it's up the they want to choose or the one going up just with this idea can they trade with such an idea.
so I wan to know if it's right for the person to begin trading?
I guess it’s always a choice if you want to trade with no knowledge and skills in trading, as anybody is free to do trading as long as he want. But most likely, you will only trade to lose so it’s a disadvantage on your part. That is why beginner traders should gain first hand knowledge and some working strategies before they start trading, because trading is never easy and is always risky if you insist random trading. Besides, even professional traders still lose their money in trading, so how much more for a beginner who has no experience at all.
1137  Economy / Economics / Re: To cut financial ties with original family benefits you in the long run on: February 22, 2023, 09:32:55 PM
Asking for help from parents when the need arises is normal. But staying financially dependent on them even in adulthood is simply irresponsible. The parents could also take part of the blame. Some parents cannot take it that their adult children are having a hard time. They willingly continue to support them. As a result, their children's behavior is reinforced. Parents instantly coming to their children's aid all the time may sound good, but it could also be dangerous as their children might not grow independent. They might not be able to try find ways to survive.
It’s normal for parents to extend help to their children whenever they see them hardly surviving, but taking advantage of their help would not be good at all. Instead, these children only end up still very dependent to their parents, not thinking that any time of the day their parents will be gone so they should have to start being independent by now and have their own source of income so they can provide for their family, with or without the help from parents or other people.
1138  Other / Archival / Re: What is the easiest way to explain bitcoin to a regular person? on: February 21, 2023, 09:52:08 PM
Has anyone here had troubles explaining bitcoin or crypto to a normal person?

We don't want the word normal to be taken too out of context, because we are more than sure that we all know what a "normie" is.

For us, we used freebitco.in first and it basically showed us everything we need to know from a beginner's standpoint.

Does anyone here have stories about sharing their favorite hobby/profession with someone else who either has no idea or no interest?

If bitcoin is supposed to be the future of finance, then the whole world will need to know at one point or another. Basically bitcoin and crypto education is borderline mandatory in our honest opinion.

What do you all think?

Thank you.
I doubt if there’s an easy way to explain bitcoin into a regular person, because the fact that certain person is clueless about bitcoin, then you can’t explain it to him simply and just expect that he understand it already. Bitcoin is always complicated, so you have to deal to those beginners with much of effort and determination so they can learn well from you. That’s the reason why I don’t personally teach people about bitcoin because just the thought about it make me tiring already. Instead of teaching them, I just show them how bitcoin changed my life, that way they will be more motivated to learn bitcoin on their own way.
1139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: 2023 NBA Season on: February 19, 2023, 12:31:08 PM
Mac McClung took home the dunk contest trophy and rightfully so. He also had the dunk of the night with a 720 which was absolutely ridiculous. That was easily the best dunk since Aaron Gordon’s under the legs over the mascot dunk. This year’s contest was a big step up from last year’s. Hopefully next year we get to see Zion Williamson do something special…

He was right when he said he has some hidden dunk that we don't even know and most likely it will gonna influence other dunkers to practice their own style before the NBA all-star weekend so that they will not gonna disappoint the audiences and it's better for them to practice and master some unique dunks if they want to participate in the NBA slamdunk contest. Just look at McClung and how he really does his thing when it comes to this contest and he did his best and win it through his unique dunk.
He definitely saved the slam dunk contest this time, as the last one wasn't very impressive. Now, people are talking about his dunk and, of course, himself, which is good for tomorrow's game since the hype would give more chance to attract more people to watch the game. The All-Star game is coming up, with Team LeBron vs Team Giannis, and it should be a good matchup. So, hopefully, we will all enjoy the game. I can't wait to see it, to be honest.
1140  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [Boxing] Devin Haney vs Vasiliy Lomachenco - May 20 on: February 19, 2023, 11:53:39 AM
Anyway, he really need to improve his performance if he wants to beat Haney incase their fight will push through. Because Haney is fearless, confident and an impressive boxer. Moreover he is much younger which is an advantage for him.
This one is different, though. He is the underdog, and he understands that it's the biggest fight of his career. A young champion is trying to dominate, but Loma is still definitely here. Maybe he's not in his prime based on what we've seen, but he will try to prove us wrong in this fight.
Yes, and the majority believe that Loma will lose because he is no longer in his prime. Judgments like that from fans can be very challenging for Loma. Hopefully, he will use it as inspiration to prove to the world that he's still here, and he can do that by giving Haney his first loss.
