Anyone following the ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup? 5 associate teams are taking part, including United States (automatic qualification), Indonesia, Rwanda, Scotland and United Arab Emirates. Out of these 5 teams, two are 100% comprised of either Indian citizens or players of Indian origin. However the encouraging fact is that other three teams were fielding 100% native players. Indonesia and Rwanda are playing the world cup for the first time, and they performed decently in their respective first matches with native players.
It's a good decision by ICC specially now we have 16 teams with Asians are dominating again and good thing happening after Thailand now Indonesia is second Southeast Asian country which is participating in any big cricket event which will bring good fan base for this game in this well populated region but as you mention two Indian origin teams are in this event one is USA which is understandable for UAE having all Indian based players is surely not good decision by ICC because its completely against the fair play law and having not good example for many other countries which are trying to have native players. From Africa Rwanda's entry is also good because I was expecting after South Africa and Zimbabwe Kenya will make his entry, but it's looking they are far behind and Rwanda having good entry in this event which is also positive development for the African region.

I do not think that any cricket team should be made out of 100% foreign players. This was already a big problem in men's cricket. Now, this has also become a problem in women's cricket as well. If the associate countries are making teams made out of 100% foreign players, it is not going to be good for cricket in the long run. Because they are thinking about cricket as a business strategy. Not something that they are actually going to be good at and playing competitively.

Because they are thinking about cricket as a business strategy. Not something that they are actually going to be good at and playing competitively. Let's look at the positives. The 2 teams that are comprised of non-natives have so far performed poorly in the tournament. On the other hand, the two teams that are 100% native (Rwanda and Indonesia) performed credibly so far. Rwanda had their first win yesterday when they defeated Zimbabwe by 39 runs. Henriette Ishimwe took a double hattrick, by dismissing 4 batters in 4 consecutive balls. Indonesia was considered as the weakest team in the tournament, but yesterday they scored close to 100 against West Indies and managed to bat for entire 20 overs (ended up at 99/9 in 20.0 overs). Scotland has also performed well so far. UAE on the other hand went down against India by a margin of 122 runs and the United States (as usual, given automatic entry by the ICC) lost to Australia by 9 wickets. BTW many thanks to Fancode for streaming the matches live in high quality. I enjoyed watching the Rwanda vs Zimbabwe and Indonesia vs West Indies matches yesterday:

Those who want to watch the super human performance from the Rwandan player Henriette Ishimwe (she took double hattrick yesterday) can do so here: https://www.icc-cricket.com/video/3025435I watched the match live on Fancode, and this link is for those who were unable to follow the live match. One thing is sure. Cricket in African continent is growing by leaps and bounds. A few months back, a total of 16 teams took part in the 2022–23 ICC Men's T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier. The matches were of high quality and almost all the teams were comprised of native players. Nowhere else in the world I have noticed such rapid spread in popularity of cricket. But then, we have the sad example of Kenya. So don't want to make tall claims at this point.

This was surely performance of the tournament by Henriette Ishimwe and best achievement for the Rwanda which is not going to face England in their last pool match and sure exit for them from this tournament with this high noted performance against Zimbabwe. Now today we have three matches and mostly were one-sided as Australia won against Sri Lanka with score board AUS 159/5 Sri Lanka 51, in this match when South Africa ended with the target of 112/7 I have feeling UAE can do upset but sadly South African not allowed them and have won this match by margin of 45 runs, with last match of the day play between India vs Scotland which won by India easily after giving target of 149/4 and Scotland bowled out for 66 in 14th over.

For your kind information not only cricket mostly sports are treated as business because we need investment for the development and better facilities which is possible if you give solid profit in reply otherwise no one going to invest in sports with mostly franchise depending on foreign players it's not issue because as we have mostly UEFA clubs are having foreign players. But, problem is just when you have national teams so here ICC doing few blunders which are not acceptable because this can bring problem they have to stay with Native players which is very important for the development of this game right now we have two teams with all foreign players in U-19 World Cup and team of the UAE is surely not deserved this place because they have nothing with these players all adopted from India which is not fair.

Its not about foreign players it's about population of that country as we are talking about uAE there are Arabs, Indians, Bangladeshi and Pakistani majority so when they make cricket team that comprises of these people . As Arabs are not into cricket and Indians are dominating in every field that's why their team has more Indians players.

A team having "more" Indian players is OK. But a team with 100% Indian players is not OK. Last round of group stage matches for the 2023 ICC Under-19 Women's T20 World Cup will take place today. Group A and Group D are all done and dusted with the following teams qualifying for the next stage: India, South Africa, United Arab Emirates (India B), Bangladesh, Australia and Sri Lanka. After today's matches are completed, we will get to know which are the 6 teams that will progress to next round from Groups B and C. Rwanda has almost secured their qualification, and the only chance of them missing out is if Zimbabwe manages to defeat Pakistan by a big margin today. In Group C, it is a direct fight between Ireland and Indonesia to secure the qualification spot. The winner of the match will qualify.

This is very much surprising that Bangladesh U-19 women team is ahead of Australian team, as they are unbeaten in all there 3 matches played so far. While Rwanda (unknown in ICC main evetns so far) is very close to making it to next round. There match is in progress with England and England so far are doing good 30/0 in 3 overs.

As expected Rwanda qualified to the super-6 stage. For the next phase, there will be two groups of 6 teams each, with the top two qualifying for the semi-finals. Disappointed to see Indonesia not qualifying. They played well yesterday against Ireland, but ultimately lost by 49 runs. In their last match, they will be facing Zimbabwe for the plate-group playoff (in the other playoff, United States will take on Scotland). Super-6 will start from tomorrow, and for India their first match is against a very strong Australian side. There are three other matches for 21st - Bangladesh vs South Africa, Rwanda vs New Zealand and Ireland vs England.

It was actually a little surprising to see Bangladesh under 19 women at the top of the table. This was a very competitive group. And I thought Bangladesh is going to be in the third position at best. But Bangladesh under 19 women are proving to be a force to be reckoned with in this tournament. Christ to see Zimbabwe not qualifying. Rwanda, a very unknown team has qualified. Good for them. I am actually interested to see the Bangladesh versus South Africa match. Because Bangladesh's under 19 women's team has shown really big hopes for this tournament. I think they are actually going to win against South Africa in this match. But obviously, the most interesting match is going to be India versus Australia.

I love this initiative from ICC because this will bring good and quality women's in main stream of cricket like we have in men many are coming from U-19 competitions and with this we have few good teams as well as Rwanda done good job Bangladesh top group in presence of Australia which is another confidence booster for them Indonesia fail but still have good performance in last match they beat Zimbabwe which is also good for them in the future. But, here I have one concern that ICC needs to be stick with native players because I have few proofs that Saudi Arab and UAE having their women's soccer teams with native players or other Arab country women's are also having chance to play in these teams, but they are not doing any positive development for cricket which is surely not good for them and game.

For the U-19 tournaments, ICC is sticking with 16 as the number of participants for almost 2 decades. Other sports (such as football and field hockey) have moved ahead and increased the number of participants and the ICC has done just the opposite (they reduced the number of participants in ODI world cup from 16 to 10). At least for the U-19 tournaments, they need to increase the number of participants to 24. A number of good teams failed to qualify this time (including Namibia, Nepal and Thailand). And also, teams such as United Arab Emirates made a mockery of this tournament, by fielding squads entirely comprised of Indian citizens. BTW, the ICC has proposed a 6-team tournament for the 2028 Olympics. I am surprised. They should have went for a 3-team or 4-team competition. Anyway they want cricket to be played only by the pig-4. So why include more teams? All the other team sports (including football and field hockey) are having either 12 or 16 participants, and the ICC has suggested to limit the number of participants to a minuscule level. If that is the case, then why even apply for Olympic participation? Also, they don't want any qualifier tournament. ICC wants the 6 teams to be decided on the basis of their rankings. What a load of crap?

What a load of crap? As I have said earlier, ICC is not at all interested to improve cricket. They are only interested in the money that they are making. And obviously, the pig-4 are making the most money for ICC. So obviously they are going to want to see the pig-4 play more than any other teams. Having only 16 competitions is absolutely a disgrace for ICC and cricket itself. Only if ICC did not think just about money and actually thought about improving cricket. The situation could have been a lot different. At least there should have been a qualification system for this. But this is just going to be based on the ranking. They absolutely do not want the smaller teams to have any glory. Because as I said, that brings down the possibility of the big 4 to perform in the higher stages.

you answered the question yourself. the main hurdle in increasing number of cricket teams is Big-3 (+1). as more countries means the the supremacy of big 3 will be challanged. i dont see cricket going to more countries with current model of ICC. we will strick with these 8 test teams with 4 or 5 associate teams.

I was also shocked with this news that ICC is proposing they want to go with the 6 teams in 2028 Olympics which is surely disguising because most of the sports associations were more teams, but they are still living in 19th Century and never want to come out of this poor mindset which is not allowing cricket to have better exposure and big markets which could be more profitable. Here just they want to live with 3 or 4 countries those have control and rule with their own strategy and policies, but they are missing many points as they can lose this all if they will not allow this exposure and more entries with mostly things can go into mess up, and we can face troubles which could be surely not profitable for the game now in next phase they need to work out on T20i and franchise leagues which is future and have better value for the player future as well.

ICC being the wealthiest organization in the world wants to keep hold of the power. Right now it is few countries that control the authority and decides what to be done. When more teams enter this won't be possible, when countries stand against the authority they were supposed to take decision based on the majority. There is big politics and they never take cricket to the Olympics for sure.

Furthermore how will the other countries who will be left out react to this proposal, because I feel that it’s humiliating for them to be left out and I wonder if fan’s anger may make force ICC back out of this proposal?.
