I'm not sure how exactly it works for the top seeded players and for all actually. Can you just notify you are playing and then at a later stage confirm you have been vaccinated? is there a deadline? Just reading an article which is 6 hours old but could be older on https://www.express.co.uk/sport/tennis/1534172/Novak-Djokovic-Australian-Open-medical-exemption-Covid-vaccine-Scott-Morrison-tennis-newsThe Australian Prime Minister has slammed suggestions that Novak Djokovic could receive a medical exemption to play the Australian Open. The world No 1 has been in doubt to play the season-opening Grand Slam after vaccination became mandatory for all players, as he refuses to disclose whether he has been jabbed. Djokovic then put himself on the entry list for the tournament but there was speculation he would attempt to apply for an exemption to compete without being vaccinated.

As far as I understand, Djokovic just applied to perform at the GS in Australia, but the certificate of vaccination he don't need to give now but when entering Australia, which is logical because we know that Covid certificates have a limited duration. So, Djokovic is only on the entry list for the GS in Australia, and it is a completely different story whether he will be able to enter Australia without vaccination or not. Covid's rules in Australia are very strict, probably the strictest in the world and I would be really surprised if the Australian government decides to make an exception for Djokovic. I think such a decision would infuriate many Australians who have been banned from traveling to Australia or outside Australia for 2 years, even with a Covid certificate or if they have been vaccinated. It would be a very controversial political decision with very big consequences and I do not believe that any politician in Australia would risk that much, even if it because of Djokovic.

I don't understand why Djokovic is freaking out so much about it. It is not like he would have a disadvantage if literally all other players are vaccinated as well. Look at Joshua Kimmich from Bayern Munich in soccer, rejected to get vaccinated and now his lungs suffer from infiltration and as he is now prone to myocarditis he won't be able to play this year and perhaps even in the beginning of next year.

There are still some people who dont believe what is being reported about COVID-19 and the health risks associated with contracting the virus. There is an argument that taking the vaccine may affect physical performance I think but yea in the case of that soccer player, it would have been better to have the vaccine.
So yes if all players have the vaccine there are no advantages or disadvantages to having it.

Maybe that is due to fear. There were more and more rumours around the world relative to the covid-19 vaccine. On account of the same Djokovic might have not taken the vaccine. We can't relate the lungs problem of Kimmich with the rejection to covid-19 vaccination. There are more complications people have experienced once after vaccination. So, it all depends upon the mind strength as well as the health of the individuals.

Why don't thy just look at the studies? All these professional sports people are making tests for all kinds of variables on a constant basis. Literally all the time do they get tested for lung and heart capacities, and there are so many other factors that can be tested for. Can you name a single player that got vaccinated and out of a sudden performed worse? There just isn't. Look at the world class players of any sport who got vaccinated. Ronaldo got vaccinated in June, is he playing worse? Does he say he feels bad? As this is about tennis, Zverev is also vaccinated, but I can't see how he is playing worse. I understand when someone is concerned, but why do these concerned players not just look at those players who got the vaccine? In the end we have to respect both sides and if the Australian government prohibits people without vaccination from coming to Australia, that rule must count for everyone. Also for sports superstars.

But it is so unfair for other players if he will get the exemption, again the argument that star players are given star treatment which should not be the case here. If he doesn't want to take the vaccine, then so be it, no jab no Australian Open chance for him next year.

It is indeed up to everybody for themself if they take the shot yes or no. But there will be no exemption for Djokovic; this has already been told multiple times and is again confirmed by the prime minister that nobody will get an exemption, also not Djokovic. Offcourse Djokovic will ask for one, but his chances to get that are 0%.

So even though this is seen as a big break by the top tennis players and all the top tennis tournaments are over until next year there are still a lot of Challenger type tournaments running.
I'm just wondering are you all continuing to place bets on tennis with virtually unknown players?

If the Australian authorities gave such an exception to only one athlete, then all other athletes would ask for the same and it would be difficult to explain why some people are more important than others and can get an exception to the rule and some not. Djokovic is probably the greatest tennis player of all time but he is not above the law or the rules and can't expect the rules not to apply to him. Now let Djokovic show what is more important to him, his personal credibility and principles or tennis fame? It is easy to be a moral vertical and a self-proclaimed authority when it costs you nothing

Perhaps I will look on a per tournament, because I'm seeing that some players really play good on a certain tournaments and upsets a lot of top players en route to the finals. And this is what I'm looking at, those upsets and giant killers because we all know how the odds are going to be, it will be very good for us bettors. Or we may see some break out players too, very consistent or at least 4-5 tournaments making the QF at least and giving us high quality tennis to watch.

Not really, I only bet on matches I can watch and players that passed my eye test before. Not many that fit this categories at the moment. I have took some tennis games inside multi bets when I needed to add more pairs to get some extra bonuses but more or less they all went wrong. Bookies are also limiting stakes on this low level tournaments way more so it is not even worth my time to make effort and watch more of it to make informed bets. Can't blame them for that since there is probably a lot of match fixing in tournaments where one "fixed" match gets you way more money than winning the tournament.

^ @Jating @Trofo well I've been tinkering away with some bets on some challenger matches and its not going well at all, all I can really go on is the odds and betting on the favourites is not working out too well, so yea no its really not worth the time and effort, it seems betting on matches with familiar players is more rewarding, but then again I guess I lost more on Tennis than won.

It's his beliefs mate and that's why Djokovic doesn't want to take the jab.
Hopefully that will be the case here, no exceptions even if your name is Djokovic, the best tennis player in in the world going on the first Grand Slam of the year. And so I would say that Djokovic is not sure of the entry in the Australian Open. Although he has been spotted in Serbia watching basketball games with a packed coliseum wearning mask and then recovering it from time to time.

If Djokovic can go in a crowd, watching basketball with 30,000 people then for me he is already vaccinated.
Maybe he doesn't want to tell the public about it because of his anti-vaccine since the beginning.
But have been taken the jab already even prior to the news of Australia requiring everyone to enter their country full vaccinated. So my personal opinion is that he is vaccinated but doesn't want to tell it to the public.

We'll find out soon enough Anyway, it's a really unnecessary thing to deal with. I don't understand why would he need to be vaccinated if there are still 25% of unvaccinated Australian citizens. He would be looking for his 10th Australian Open, and if he won it he'd surpass Federer and Nadal and become the player with most GS's in tennis history. It's really unnatural that politics can interfere with such things. I'm a Federer fan, but now I really want Đoković to win this one.

I tried to stay out of all this vaccination stuff since it should not be part of the sports but since it is only thing worth talking about in tennis at the moment... I don't think he is vaccinated. To get into that basketball game he probably just needed negative covid test and that is much more fair solution in my opinion. I get it that governments want more people to do it and that is why we have measures as we do but vaccinated people can still spread the disease, granted not us much as non-vaccinated but still when you have big gatherings you have to either remove all the measures all require negative test from everybody. Everything else is half measure and discrimination. If he got the job, he would issue some statement for sure. It is not something he will be able to keep as a secret even though it should be everyone basic right.

Well its the rules of the Australian Open, they have a duty of care to try and keep players, staff and spectators safe from infection. With the government they have the same duty of care I imagine to try and manage the potential demand on their health service, not just for COVID infections but the pressure a potential outbreak can put on services for other staff and patients of the health service. So while there might be 25% of Australians not vaccinated you can be sure they dont have the same "freedom" as vaccinated people and as regards non-nationals Australia always been quite strict, vaccinations is just another thing they want ant can control.

Speaking of the vaccine, I know the unvaccinated people won't have the same freedom as the people that have got the vaccine but have you?

Speaking of the vaccine, I know the unvaccinated people won't have the same freedom as the people that have got the vaccine but have you? When it comes to social events and outlets yes the vaccinated have more freedom. https://7news.com.au/lifestyle/health-wellbeing/queensland-covid-restrictions-on-unvaccinated-come-into-effect-what-are-the-rules-c-4979214Venues where patrons must prove they are vaccinated include cafés, restaurants, pubs, clubs, RSL clubs, taverns, function centres, bars, wineries, distilleries, microbreweries, nightclubs, live music venues, karaoke bars, concerts, theatres, cinemas, bowling alleys, amusement arcades, casinos and other gambling venues, convention centres, adult entertainment venues (including strip clubs and brothels), stadiums, theme parks, tourism parks, zoos, aquariums, wildlife centres, showgrounds, music festivals, art festivals and cultural festivals But this is about managing the health services and trying to reduce the impact on them by the virus, sporting events particularly the AO which runs for a number of weeks will have hundreds of thousands of footfall, they dont want people being infected there and they certainly want the competition to run its course without further restrictions.
