The java client is super slow & not updated, it's a java thing.......use the client instead. Then you can get rid of java completely If you are a small miner you should take advantage of OgNastys p2pool - that's what it's designed for. We've had 3 blocks in 8 hours so far today, p2pool has consistently beaten every other pool out there as far as payouts go, it's truly decentralised, no late/missing payments & you're in control of it - what's not to like? Yes, it has faults, but it still outperforms every other pool - if you're patient. Oh.... er.. which client? my p2pool node is on linux. Are you referring to matt's p2pool node with the relay built in or? Sorry. LOL. I'm only left with 4 S4 running but p2pool has been good so far. Been keeping track on earning from multiple pools and p2pool so far has topped everyone. And yes, I love the fact that payment is instant upon solving the block. No trust/wait/time needed especially since I'm now mining straight to Trezor. I check with Trezor before I switched and they say generated tx is fine as long as you setup another account for generated tx. I think they're coming up with a fix to fix it but so far so good. Already got a few generated tx in

i'm also using the relay , tried both java & .exe my entire system runs on windows. the exe version seems to be much faster. @sEpuLchEr seems like u r located in sg heh ? hello from yr neighbor. too expensive to turn miners over there yeah despite the recent drop in electricity prices in sg. i managed to improve "some" latency issues by regedit in windows & i'm sure there's something you can do in linux. try that & see if it helps. try to write to mike to get your pool listed here http://nodes.p2pool.co/ the results are pretty accurate.

Ahh.. just across the causeway then Yes. SG's electricity is expensive but mining is fun. 1 x S4 is about SG$250 a month for electricity. Can get it cheaper if using colo but I like to touch and caress my miners.... LOL. Edit: I'm actually born in Malaysia. Mum was a Malaysian and Dad Singaporean. Was born in Johor and I spent a couple of years in Pontian which is my hometown. Most of my relatives are in Malaysia though. I could host my miners with them but....

I'm also running Linux. do a git pull from here: https://github.com/TheBlueMatt/RelayNode.gitthen change your command to: screen -d -m -S relay ~/RelayNode/client/relaynetworkclient public.eu.relay.mattcorallo.com 127.0.0.1 8333 for the eu server or what ever server you want to use. I'm not aware of any sgp server in your command by the way - it's not listed anywhere that I can see, only us-west (West Coast US), us-east (East Coast US), eu (Western Europe), au (Australia), or jpy (Japan). Java is a big, fat, slow, resource hungry security vulnerability - i hate it

Already got a few generated tx in Huge Trezor fan, now mine directly to Trezor (to a unique account), and had an email chat with Slush about this. Generation transactions to Trezor process without an issue, the current issue is that the backend does not check for proper generation transaction confirmations before attempting to spend (120 vs. 6), so spending from an account with generation transactions that have less then 120 confirmations fails. Originally they failed silently, and the transactions would eventually disapear (with the funds back in your Trezor), now they fail with an error message, he will have a fix implemented soonish(TM).

Oh, does using the relay network really help? Coz I've been testing it for a couple of hours and my getwork latency increased rather than decrease.... It's that supposed to be or am I doing something wrong?
I use screen
screen -d -m -S RelayNetwork java -jar ./RelayNodeClient.jar public.sgp.relay.mattcorallo.com 127.0.0.1:8333
The relay network helps with reducing pool orphans by distributing network blocks faster. p2pool itself does that too by the way it distributes the p2pool blocks found through the p2pool network. It has nothing to do with the p2pool share chain or reducing your rejected p2pool shares.

regarding the whole latency thing with small miners getting squashed by big miners etc whatever it is...
why not just create multiple P2p-pool networks?
Sure, the variance won't be great, but you can imagine if a p2p pool of sub 100 gh/s ASICS, perhaps that sub network would have more egalitarian distribution? similarly, a network of ~500 gh/s miners, then the 1.0 th/s bunch, etc.
Of course, this wouldn't prevent 1 terrahashers from joining the 100 gh/s pool. Unless nodes can implement some kind of filter - i.e., you could join a sub 100 gh/s pool, but only 100 gh/s out of your 1.0 th/s will be accepted.
sorry if this has been proposed before. Don't keep up on this as much as a I should. just overly caffeinated right now.

Well I would be considered a small miner, I mine about 9TH and I have my node on Windows 7 64 Bit running strong. I have Get Work stats on average of .1 Sec. I am lucky that my office is on a 100 Meg Fiber Internet feed and the server connects to the gig switch. When running it thru a small 8 port non managed desktop $30 switch that the miners are attached to it goes to .8 sec. I have been mining for about 9 months now. I have tried all the large pools and every one has there issues and terrible pay outs. So being a IT company owner i have the opinion that if i learn enough i can make or do anything i want. So I built my own P2P00L node. The address is 207.105.189.40:9332 and any small miner that wants to mine on p2pool for no cost is welcome. The Server is running on HP hardware with Dual Xeon processors with 4 cores ea, 16 GB ram, and a SDD drive. The server never even warmed up, let a lone break a sweet. I have access to great used HP hardware very high end equipment that is very cheap. We use it all the time for test projects and personal use. They run great. I have a second Server that I will do the same on but with Debian Linux and will compare the 2 of them. In the future and if i get enough users I might move the servers to our Data Center Cabinet. But thats down the road. The Pay outs are on average are much better than I have ever received on any of the bigger pools. So yes P2Pool is in my opinion the best way for small miners to mine and average the bests payouts available.

What new miners to P2Pool needs to learn is pay outs are based on A share in the chain and current work in the system, No share no pay. It can take time to get a share at first. I have seen some people with a Th or less connect to my pool mine for a hour or 2 not get a share and then leave. I truly think if we want to grow P2Pool we need to educate the new and small miners. and explain this can take time to get the first share. And they can watch there stats to determine if they have found one. I still have old s1 that find shares consistently.

Agreed, when I took over p2pool.org my hope was to provide an educational resource for new miners. I threw up the current site and copy with the intent of improving it over time, however other projects have come up and I have been to busy to mess with it. If anyone would like to contribute (copy/design/whatever), your contributions would be welcome

Can someone clarify something for me? How much bandwidth does running a node generally eat up per day?

The only thing that uses any bandwidth worth considering is the Bitcoin node. If a new node pulls the Blockchain down from your node thats 20gb (uploaded from you). Other than that is kb/s for transaction traffic.

Other than that is kb/s for transaction traffic. And your p2pool node pooling pulling down shares. It may not seem like it is much ... but the other day I had to kill my local node because it was saturating my limited bandwidth (3mb/s down). It wasn't bitcoin, it was p2pool. And it was long after I'd downloaded the chain (I'd been running for days already). M
