On a brighter note - 7 blocks & counting...... Smiley Smiley

That's great.  Now if only it was usable by smaller miners.  I was squeezed out.  My node is empty because all of them had the same hash rate or me (1.2 TH/s) or lower, and couldn't get any shares.  There are few things more frustrating than waiting 18 hours for a share only to see it roll off in 24 hours without a block. Sad

M

Not to sound harsh, but mining in general is not going well for small miners. This doesn't appear to be a p2pool problem, but a general bitcoin problem. It's the nature of the beast.

I'm doing just fine on a "conventional" pool.

According to NIST and ECRYPT II, the cryptographic algorithms used in Bitcoin are expected to be strong until at least 2030. (After that, it will not be too difficult to transition to different algorithms.)

Great site for finding nodes:

Also, another repo of altcoins:

...and this altcoin node rocks!

I don't know what you are talking about, I am getting great results on p2pool. I get around $40 a week on 400gh/s. I think that's pretty good. I got $40 only overnight.

I thought even with higher pool hash rate and less shares you still get the same overall because you get more frequent smaller payouts.

Over time (and for smaller miners perhaps a great amount of time) p2pools payout should always be about the same, and often better as shown in the recent pool comparison thread.

As your hashrate represents a smaller % of the global pool variance will increase.

There are plenty of small miners that have mined successfully on the Coin Cadence node, it just takes great patience to wait for the share, and then hope a block is found while its valid.

Today is a great example of a huge payday for a small miner with a share in the chain... Its also not hard to look back and find a relatively long period of time where they may not have had a share and may have gone a while without payout...

Here is an example of a ~350GH/s miner on my node who cleaned up today:

yeah so that's kind of my point. put up with the variance and support distributed hashing. anyway here are my stats: http://minefast.coincadence.com/miner.php?id=1MinerGcfwXJW6BETKLPQTmKYomc1uGAXy

I've had my miners up and down and some node tweaks of late so it's been up and down but all stable now.
The data is there for all to see and you can look up my address on blockchain to see how I've done on p2pool over the last 4-6 months. My original hash rate up until about 1 month ago was only 230gh/s now it's 430gh/s avg.
If you are considering mining on p2pool or leaving p2pool, check out the returns I've had. my ~$500 worth of mining kit has paid for itself (excluding power costs) already.

I'm talking about the difficulty getting a share.  As I stated above, it's frustrating waiting almost a day for a share to show up, then watch it roll off without a block.  Just because there were 7 blocks doesn't mean if I was here, I'd get anything.. all depends on those shares and luck.

Has there been any major updates to P2Pool in the last few months?

I see its got this interface - http://p2pool.info/ - is this a 3rd party? If so who has it?

Also if there have been any updates how do I get them again? Sorry I forgot the command I need to run inside the P2Pool folder on my Linux. Sad

Thanks,

I was using --fee 50 previously as I was loaning out my miners to people. Now that I am no longer doing that do I just need to remove the --fee 50 so that my pool only takes 0.5%? or do I need to remove the 50 and replace it with 0.5?

I also have incoming connections set to 8 and outgoing to 6, do I need these left alone?

I am using a 35/2Meg cable connection that isn't dedicated to p2pool.

I did the git pull on my p2pool then restart my pool and got 13.4-24-gf0eeb48-dirty as the version number. Is this correct or is there something that I am missing?

It's not a publicly released front end.  Yet.

Replace it with 0.5.  You can manually set your incoming connections using --max-cons.  Incoming connections default to 40.  Outgoing connections default to 6.

Thanks,

No, that's not the latest version.  Are you using the standard p2pool code, or someone's fork (like rav3n)?

I am using the standard P2Pool code. Is there someones else's fork I should consider using for BTC p2pool mining?

I understand the --max cons, I previously set it to 8 when I had a 28/1Meg internet connection, I just wondering if I should uncap it or leave it?

Thanks!

Until next Thursday my focus is getting the new p2pool.org up and running, after that I will direct all my attention to the open source version of the Coin Cadence front-end. I hope to have a beta version up by October 1st.

In the mean time you may want to check out these popular front ends:

Node Status: https://github.com/johndoe75/p2pool-node-status
Example: http://minefast.coincadence.com:9332/static/node-status/

Extended:https://github.com/hardcpp/P2PoolExtendedFrontEnd
Example: http://minefast.coincadence.com:9332/static/extended/

Edit: For Bitcoin forrestv's version is what you want.

I am bit confused.

I removed the --fee from my server start string, it shows a fee of 0% on my site yet I just got a payout, my miner wallet got 0.004x and when I checked my p2pool wallet I see a payment of 0.008x does this mean the fee system is still working or am I not understanding something?

This was most likely due to the DOA share finding a block.

Valid Block 320165 found from DOA share.

When a share comes in as DOA (i.e. P2Pool has moved on to a new share hash) it is still submitted to bitcoind because it might still be a valid block even though it is a dead share. In my experience it does not happen often, but it happened today...
