I have around 1.3 THs and have been w/ Slush since I started mining in the summer of '13....the past few weeks have been extreme highs and lows..  If folks are jumping ship, where are they going?  What advantage is there to go somewhere else?  We are now back over 830Ths...we continue to have bad luck...thoughts?
Are people disenchanted with the slight fall of BTC value (demise of MtGox)?  overall network hash rate dropped from 28.3 PH to 25.8 PH/sec https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate

Nothing significant:

https://blockchain.info/charts/hash-rate?showDataPoints=false&show_header=true&daysAverageString=1&timespan=1&scale=1
I agree... any other suggestions?

... regarding?
The original question "....thoughts?"....

Oh. Hashrate is not a good indicator of the popularity of a pool. Proportion of the network is a better indicator:

Slush's pool is the black line in the second group. It's been in decline for a long time, I don't see an improvement unless Slush makes some changes.

Thanks for this important insight into the situation.  It's likely that that the proportion of the network is an outcome rather than a cause. My gut feeling is that some areas of potential improvement are:
Improve pool reliability - fix the various 'glitches' in reporting of rewards (probably teething problems related to recent 'upgrades')
Provide some presence on the forum, in addition to the 'ticket' system
Consider modifying the 'exponential anti-hopping' algorithm which is misunderstood and creates negative sentiments (or spend some time/effort to explain why it is so good)

Some clear advantages of Slush are:
Long term track record
Honesty
Low pool fee
Reliability of the core mining aspect

Cheers

Eligius, BTC Guild, etc. Probably larger pools where they find more coins but pay proportionally less having more members to do so. Evens out the highs and lows through volume of blocks. I kind of like the roller coaster myself. Brings out the good and bad in everyone like a Bitcoin mining soap opera. Over time it's all the same IMHO. There's no magic pool or else everyone would be there.

Grin Probably more like a translator but in all honesty I appreciate you making an effort to work in English. Now your native tongue is either some other language or you're a recent graduate from one of our finer establishments.

I hath a bunch - almost Shakespearean!  If not a native English speaker, then definitely marks for effort.  Otherwise, text speak has a lot to answer for.

i like the highs and lows as well. .  then you get the emotion of the good and bad (and something to talk/whine about as well). .   The only drawback I see to it is that if you get a portion of bad luck while your mining is "relevant" - then it may not work out to be the same. .   Of course, the good luck works in reverse. ..  . .

For instance, if you get back luck for a month while difficulty is workable (say now) and you 1/2 of the coins you normally do, and then good luck next month, when the difficulty has risen three times, and you get double the coins next month - the math doesn't quite work out. . .  1/2 of more coins vs double of less coins is not so good. .

Of course the reverse could also happen and we can't predict where the good luck or bad luck is going to happen and where, but unfortunately to me, it doesn't look like it'll all work out to be the same.   So, there also is a relevant  argument for more consistent payout pools that hash more and pay out consistently as you take some of the variance out of play. .   again, you'll lose out on some good luck but smooth out the bad luck.

Aye Aye Sir Alan. I unfortunately speak engineer past down from generations who never saw the need to have command of the English language in order to feed themselves.

To what Shakespearean work would you liken Slush; may I so boldly ask?

Methinks the forum - or much of its content - is modelled upon "Much Ado About Nothing".

looks like every day in the last week or so (outside of 1) has a 10+ hour round. . .  difficulty has gone up, but the round lengths are the killer. .

Looks like slush has also decided to reset the single day (or perhaps all) the pool luck. . .  No possible way the pool luck is at 100% when you have a 22 hour round within the last 24 hour window, another 8 hour round and currently working on a 9+ hour round. . .   Unless you somehow had 4 other blocks that were sub 1 hour that fit in that window ..   Not sure fudging the luck numbers make things look better for the rest of us that know better. ..

"There's no magic pool or else everyone would be there."

the majority of people mining have no clue whats going on, IF they did they would be mining on Slush.
Slush just needs to do 100% luck once and the pay outs still exceed other pools even with a 20 hour block slammed in there.

whiners who r clueless cant handle what math shows them

The numbers were reset the last time the website went down, our 30 day went from 81% to like 124% when the site came back up.. The numbers would be a lot worse if they where a true running average. People saw the numbers and jumped to this pool, until they started to look at the block times, now most of them have left after doing their due diligence .. IMO

Exactly because of that I moved to ghash.io after 5 months in slush...

And very happy. Not an issue in 1 month now.

NO way - ZERO. ..   because the pool luck is 35% for one day and 165% for the 2nd day.   I was talking one day luck  numbers and a couple hours ago it was 100%. .

There is no doubt those numbers were reset with some sort of web update.  I'm not saying the numbers would change, but when I said no possible way the 1 day was at 100% with those long blocks in there, yeah - don't think its possible.
