Bitcoin mining is now a specialized and very risky industry, just like gold mining. Amateur miners are unlikely to make much money, and may even lose money. Bitcoin is much more than just mining, though!

I'm wondering. we have a run of bad luck and people leave for greener pastures. Our hashrate settles down and our luck starts improving. People see our luck improve and come back. Gradually increasing hashrate continues to feed good luck. Eventually, hashrate gets as big as it is going to get. Luck starts to equalize. People consider a little bad luck to be an indicator and start moving away. Gradually decreasing hashrate manifests the appearance of a run of bad luck until we are back to the normal lower rate. Luck eventually stabilizes and repeat. Huh

Sure does seem that way.

Maybe you configured a backup pool, and forgot about it? And your miner was working for the backup pool....

Anybody noticed any reduction of their total rewards on a regular basis?  I thought it has been my imagination.  I usually see it drop about .01 BTC every now and then so I thought that's just normal.  However, this time around, my total rewards dropped at least .02 BTC from about .89+ to .87+.  I work very hard and invested a lot just to get those bitcoin cents.

Slush, what's going on.  Is somebody milking my rewards every now and then hoping that I would not notice it?

If new people join slush, it lowers all the users rewards. It was 20701.827 Ghash/s the other day, now it's 31701.827 Ghash/s...The numbers you provided are inline with the growth of the pool.

Fun fact: the next diff jump will be around 30% (all time high growth) as it seems now, some of the new hash power joins slush so expect the rewards to continue degrading.

If this makes you nervous you shouldn't have invested in mining.

the 101 adress is down for me

presently stratum is only resolving to

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    stratun.bitcoin.cz
Address:  109.74.195.190       <=- wildcard answer for unresolved dns entries... you would think slush would want that removed.... eh?

which is
Name:    kuzlatko.palatinus.cz
Address:  109.74.195.190

VERY FISHY indeed...

OH my bad hah! that is someone trying to make profit off a mispelling on stratum

Name:    stratum.bitcoin.cz
Addresses:  95.211.52.40
          54.225.116.174
          54.215.3.101
This cannot be fishy Smiley slush's real name is Marek Palatinus, so kuzlatko must be his backup server.

ah ok! I was thinking something along those lines, but didnt remember his name! then all is well!

Thanks for your input.  However, I don't think you understand my situation.  I'm talking about the amount that I already earned which registers under my "Total Rewards".  Like everybody else in the pool, I track it.  I'm not talking about variance here.  Why would it drop a cent or two every now and then when I already earned it?  Please don't give me that sermon about not investing if it makes me nervous.  That's getting too old.

"Total Rewards" is not the same as 'already earned reward' - it is sum of the 'Confirmed Reward' (which is what you have earned and should look for) and 'Unconfirmed reward' which is an expectation and varies a lot with the time.

Just to clarify, you're saying that an "Unconfirmed reward" is still subject to change and fluctuation until it is fully confirmed?
