+1 I think our discussion needs to be right on the front of "What is devcoin?" this will definetily put the seemingly awkward technicalities in perspective of real world applications and thus adoption for the future. Great post and if everyone coming to rhe project read our discussion the visiter to adopter rate would be massive!
There's a lot that's slowly changing with regards to the financial and real economy. Cryptos are frontrunning some of it, devcoin front runs more of it because it's building a base for equity entry that could simply appeal to a much larger pool of human capital and ideas, as well as effective equity financing (taking a stake). That doesn't imply perfection but things evolve. More visibility is good but I think on core principles people have to think things through for themselves. There's a difference between personally prefering/not a particular model and acknowledging the reflection of certain emerging trends within it/not. I believe the aspects we discuss will become better appreciated over time, and I'm patient.

Smeagol - cheers been helping out with stuff anyway so may as well do it properly.

A+ Welcome back!

..
So how do we implement original photography, painting, music and design share distribution?

The plan is to make the forum first, because it's impractical to work on many projects in one giant thread. I suggest doubling the forum bounties from 24 shares to 48 shares, any objections?

Once we have the forum, I think the easiest site would be a design site. Each object would have instructions on how to build it, and 3d (stl) and/or 2d (svg) design files. Text is easy to count, and relatively easy to check for plagiarism.

For the other sites, text descriptions will be required, because that will make it easier to stop plagiarism and give something to count. However, since most of the value would be in the artwork, which can't be automatically counted, it would be harder to determine earnings.

I don't think so, you can link to a youtube video.

I think the bounty is fine as it is right now. We're experiencing a huge surge in both DVC (over 100% boost so far and still going up) and BTC. As such, the value is already going up considerably.

I think that while the max devtome per round payout is 80 shares per person it's difficult to justify building and implementing a forum as required for less than a third of that (but I do see your point on assumed payout at these prices). An alternative would be to adjust the maximum share per writer per round - it rolls over anyway so no net loss at stable prices, spreads out earnings and perhaps addresses some transiet dumping risk by keeping more skin in the game.

Personally i like the idea of themarket deciding price for work so assign shares to bounties until complete? Reduce shares per round to writers?

I would be willing to purchase a VPS and host this forum, is there a link to the requirements for it?

You mean shares or absolute amount of dvc? I'm with you on the market factor but the various share components aren't constants so it would be difficult for any natural market consenus to pin down a value on an unknown. I wasn't even getting into the general devtome/payment issue, as I think people know my view. Was only referring to the max(round).

Very few submit anywhere near 80k in a round, but this has a disproportionate effect on everything dvc (not just other writers, but also other writers). There's still no submission limit and I don't see the need for one, but everything above a lower-than-80 amount would still just get rolled to the next round as now. I don't know what the right number is but if a forum is 24-48, a feature animation is ~50 and a simple Open Transactions client is 96 then I'd say quite a bit lower than 80.

On Open Tansactions, has anyone actually tried installing it? Be interested to know what functionality exists. www.opentransactions.org

Scratch that, found it. Ok, now it just says "an SMF Forum with email." Does that mean with email-able notifications and such or a whole email server system for Devcoin users? Do I get to pick the domain? How do you all feel about or Devcointalk.com?

I've felt for awhile that this is of utmost importance to DVC, to get its own forum away from this one.

I'm willing to build and fund the initial Forum, but can't offer to moderate it 100%, will need help at that--probably of the original DVC admins?

Edit, OK, I have registered Devcointalk.com. I am going to order a VPS, pay for a year's worth and get the forum software set up.

RE-Edit: I found this site http://devcointalk.org/ Why does it not qualify for the bounty? Before I add another site to our list, someone tell me if I'm doing right or not...now I may have wasted a domain name...doh!

..
For example, photographs/images - it would be pretty quick and easy to upload anything I could get my hands on, but that could be either/both of zero value and without right - which is why number of images per article is limited in compensation for the time being.
..

That's why the image compensation is so low, 10 words per image, because a computer can't determine the worth of an image, and I don't want people to just make a pointless image gallery. However, images related to the article do make it look better, and a rater can evaluate images and boost the rating if the images fit:
http://devtome.com/doku.php?id=devtome_rater#rating_method

Raters should consider images in their vote, the recommended weighting is 10%.

There is a forum. Fuzzy created www.devcointalk.org but apparently the functionality isn't everything needed? I'm not sure about the issues with that vs coinzen vs other.

Well silly me for registering another domain. I'll just point it at the current site unless someone can tell me a reason I might want to build another? Can we remove the damn bounty too if its taken care of? Wink

I dont know where the project strayed off interms of creating shares for writers but I believe the original intent was to support mainly developers not writers. I posted about this many times. Devtome was a bounty that really hijackdd the project by allowing it to be put on training wheels until ad revenue cans elf sustain writers.

correct me if im wrong but since devtome was a bounty it really should have nothing to do with devcoin internals.. Only connection it should have to devcoin is revenue from ads is purchased on market for devcoins and given to the writers essentially spurring economy. as more writers came in snd more ad revenue the more lucrative to write... If we wanted mAterial we could have always created bounties to get good material before it kicks off on its own.. Instead we put it on the reciever list and essentislly closed the doors to pay for actual development...

I think bounties were hard to manage so we already proposed solutions to this... But what I meant was shares per round that added bounty absolute payouts incrementally until developer comes along and does it.. At first it would allow some developers to come in and really make a killing but as it gets going the market will become efficient and not allow bounties to run up before someone comes in and does it... That way bounties are based on demand and supply rather than someone deciding how much its worth snd becomes obsolete as market changes...this way bounties will always scale to the current situation of devcoin and everything is relative not absolute. I proposed for now to reduce writer shares by half or third and the rest for bounties that we all agree are important.. Sooner or later they will be done and then the shares will start to allocate money for the next set of bounties taht we agree are to be done... At first helping devcoin project but later helping humanoty in general and finally creating a bounty exchange so people can pay devs in devcoins similar to workforcrypto.com (just Another bounty project). i envision that one day by allowing the bounty exchange to flourish that it will help the share allocation become efficient be since there would be competition which id healthy to devcoin in general. Im not sure what the thinking is for current structure.

You're preaching to the converted, although I can see that in effect happening regardless via sites such as the one you highlight which will be adding dvc. I think (hope) when that reality of pragmatism and efficiency hits there'll be some corresponding changes.

If you cut the 80 in half to 40, I would hardly notice it. It's easy to publish everything you've ever written in one round and collect a massive payout but maintaining a steady discipline of writing day in and day out is much more difficult, even with writing about whatever you want.  If I ever got to the point where I *did* submit 80,000 words in one round I think I would like to have that divided up over two rounds anyway--might be nice to take a round off and still get paid Smiley

I doubt if any old bounties need to be doubled or increased because the exchange rate has skyrocketed lately, not only the rae against bitcoin but also the rate against fiat because bitcoin itself has also been skyrocketing. Devcoins might actually be worth more right now per coin than they have ever been.

So I suggest letting the increase in value of cryptocoins in general, the tide that is floating all boats lately, take care of making existing bounties start to look good again.

Unless the problem is that the pay for devtome writing will still keep dwarfing the pay for normal bounties since it too is floated by the same tide?

If so maybe we should consider making a thousand words be a fifth of a share instead of a full share, since we also only have a maximim number of shares in a round no matter how much writing anyone does.
