[Setup & Troubleshoot] Bitmain AntMiner S1 180GH/S miner

Trying to troubleshoot an issue I've been having with mine.  Once every few hours, my S1 will start a fairly quiet beeping session that lasts for 30-60 seconds.  Hashing speed is degraded at this time.  There is sometimes a louder beep announcing the end of the cycle.  

It does not appear to be related to internet connectivity, as I monitor my pings fairly closely, and it seems stable during these outages.  The miner is overclocked, but the issue happens even at stock speeds.  The temps on the board seem fairly stable at around 45-46, though it drops into the 30s during these cycles.  Overall HW errors fluctuate from .5-1%.  Any ideas of what could be going on?

Got it fixed with a firmware update, you should give it a try.

It's been in my possession about two weeks, and I updated the firmware first-thing from here.
I'll update again - just to be sure.

What version have you got?
v1.4 or v1.5?
can you ping properly?
Do you get ntp errors in your system log?

How can I determine what version I have?
Pings work fine currently (currently not beeping).
No NTP errors in the log.

OK, go to your wan settings through - Network  - Interfaces.
Then EDIT wan connection.
Change DNS to: 8.8.8.8 and add another one as: 8.8.4.4

I think you should be set

Pool settings are correct.  It's been hashing to them fine - except once an hour or so.
I applied the fix remotely.  I'll let you know if it worked.

I got 3 antminers and they all have the same problem of not being able to start hashing.  I have tried several things from the thread with no success.

When I attempt pinging I get this:
PING openwrt.org (78.24.191.177): 56 data bytes

5 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

When I disable the NTP client in the system, nothing changes.  My guess is the NTP, but even when I change the candidates, it still just uses openwrt anyways.  I have been working with this for several hours now and I'm at a complete loss, so any is is appreciated.

This one will power 2 ants... It will cost you around 20-22GBP.

One note! These PSU's have a max amount of watts you can use on each output pin.. So if you have a complete ant (both blades) on 1 output pin...then you'll be pulling >360W on a pin that has a max of 312W (in case of the 930W PSU). You'll fry it... like I did

I know my HW error rate is acceptable on the unit in question
But my other two units have green lights on under the LAN connector and the one with the HW error doesn't have it on

They are all mining at 180GHS but is it something I should be worried about?
I think it may not be reading the fan/temp properly? The fan is always 400 rpm more than the other units

Okay I have something odd going on.  But first something funny, the Ants that I received had ips set up on them and mining addresses set up in them, they were not default IP, so someone got some free hashing power as I went through and set up each one.  Anyway, one of my miners is functioning oddly, the Ethernet plug in has had its green light on sold on occasion and the unit will not be mining.  Additionally I have it, as well as all of them, set up on wireless. Each miner has a wireless ip and an Ethernet ip that do not match up on each machine (should I set the ether to the same ip as the wifi?), but this one miner I cannot access through wireless, it is mining, I can access it through the Ethernet just not the wireless.  Any idea's why this one unit times out and cannot be accessed wireless?

Ah yeah I keep forgetting to mention.
When Bitmain copied the luci cgminer code from Avalon and disabled the extra cgminer options in the luci web interface, it meant you had to edit the /etc/config/cgminer and /etc/init.d/cgminer files to add in extra cgminer options.
Well, you can get around that by adding the options on the end of a pool password in the luci web interface.

So e.g. if your "Pool1 password" password is "x"
you can instead set it to "x --api-description MyAnt"
and that will add the extra parameters "--api-description MyAnt" to the cgminer command line

Watch out for what options you add, since adding a space (as an example: --api-description My Ant) will mess up the command line

Also note that the pool password is set before certain API options, so it won't override the options in /etc/init.d/cgminer after the pool1 password:
--api-allow W:127.0.0.1 --api-listen

Note this works on all ants with all versions of cgminer

Have you tried powering down?  Mine did that a couple of days ago.  I lost 16 of them.  I just powered down the psu and waited for a couple of minutes, and powered it back up.  Everything was fine.

Have you tried powering down?  Mine did that a couple of days ago.  I lost 16 of them.  I just powered down the psu and waited for a couple of minutes, and powered it back up.  Everything was fine.

Also if you get xxxxx yet your hashing speeds are normal then you are fine.

Edit:  Sell the cube to some poor sucker unless your power is free.  The cube consumes more power than it produces in coins, even if not OCed.
