If the BCCI is planning to organize IPL, first the New Zealand government needs to approve conducting a global tournament and if that is possible then they can think about conducting the T20 World Cup.

The situation with IPL is that all the players are having a contract for the year 2020 to get paid and how the contract are signed if the tournament is cancelled is not known.

Players would have to compromise somewhere as everyone is getting a pay cut and hence, they wouldn't get paid as per their contracts due to losses I guess. Since tomorrow is the meeting, we may get a clear idea of what is their decision.

Why not organize IPL in countries declared virus free? NZ and many smaller countries are now virus-free so the players and the required staff can be tested first and then they can organize an event away from India. It's not necessary to organize it in India when the condition is now worse and doesn't seem to improve for months. They are already incurring losses so they need to think of more alternatives. This is only if it's possible and plausible.
Its not easy as we are feeling because New Zealand is Corona free but Borders are still close and they need some good time for visitors to allow as danger is still on and IPL is very big event they need some good time and things for this all to organise main thing is BCCI will go or have any intention to play in New Zealand.

That is the problem, the Government of a particular country needs to think about opening up borders to the rest of the countries which could be a big risk right now with the cases averaging over 100k every day. New Zealand have done a great job along with Australia at containing the virus which could be good for the T20 world cup but again its up to the Giovernments if they want to take the risk on opening up borders and if they do I suspect that there will be tough regulations on the incoming teams into the countries.

New Zealand would be a neutral host for test cricket this winter. It is favored for being a country declared ‘Covid-19 virus free’
The biggest problem New Zealand has is that it is a country that does not have the best time zone of the countries that play cricket.

The new ICC chairman would probably be another corrupt old guy. The T-20 World Cup is my primary focus. I feel like they might finalize NZ as the host this time around.

I don't really think that time zone is a big issue since there are other major issues overall. NZ and Australia would be risking a lot by allowing international players to play in their countries since asymptomatic cases are tougher to detect.

Okay ladies & Gents, ICC meeting is happening tomorrow (10th June) so calm your titties and keep fingers crossed for any good news.  Grin

Tldr
- Main topic is T-20 WC
- Discussion on new ICC Chairman
- FTP (Future tour programe)

T20 World Cup, FTP & more: What's in store as the ICC Board reconvenes

We may get an idea about the next ICC chairman during the meeting tomorrow. The front runner is obviously Colin Graves of England and Wales Cricket Board, and IMO he is the worst possible candidate for that job. He is one of those money minded individuals who will do whatever it takes to prevent the globalization of the sport. There are rumors that Sourav Ganguly (BCCI) and Ehsan Mani (PCB) may also announce their candidature. The candidate needs 8 votes to win out of 17 (12 test nations, 3 Associates, and two independent voters - Indra Nooyi & Shashank Manohar).

https://www.icc-cricket.com/about/the-icc/structure/board
Don't know much about Colin Graves but under him English board and team doing fairly good job, they won the World cup. Yeah Ganguly name going around for quite some time but no official announcement from the BCCI.

The T-20 World Cup is my primary focus. I feel like they might finalize NZ as the host this time around.
Or may be Aus and NZ sharing hosting rights? minimum logistics and safety burden for both countries.

Well.. I am not saying that Graves did a bad job at the ECB. But the problem is that he is a bad candidate for the ICC. He holds a lot of contempt for associate nations and right now we don't need such a divisive individual as the head of the ICC. I would rather suggest Kumar Sangakkara as the head of the ICC, with Ganguly as the head of the BCCI. The combination would do wonders.

Or may be Aus and NZ sharing hosting rights? minimum logistics and safety burden for both countries.

That would involve a lot of travel between Australia and New Zealand. Not possible under current circumstances.

I have no clue about his wrongdoings or behavior, so you might be right or wrong? can't say for surety, unless you are pointing at any article etc.

Well, they did shared the hosting couple of times so it shouldn't be tough but ofcourse its all depends on the respective Gov. For the right reasons its their own choice if they are opening the borders for foreign players or not.

As of now, New Zealand is closed for international travelers. I don't think that they will make an exception, just for the world cup. If it was a handful of teams, then there was a chance. But the world cup involves a total of 16 teams and close to 300 players and other staff. So it is a bit complex. That said, Australia is not faring that bad. They are having only around 5-10 new cases per day.

ICC didn't come in any conclusion anyway, announcement for WC is postponed untill next month. Situation should be more clear in Australia and NZ as far as their gov are concern.

Live feed is interesting... check the ian chappell remarks.

Finally the long wait is over. The ICC is out with the verdict. The stakeholders have decided that a call will on the T20 World Cup will only be taken a month later after assessing the situation, according to reports.

So according to the ICC release,  The International Cricket Council (ICC) Board today agreed to continue exploring a number of contingency plans regarding the future of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2020 and the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2021 until next month whilst planning for delivery of the events in the scheduled window is ongoing.

The Board expressed its desire to continue to assess and evaluate the rapidly changing public health situation caused by COVID-19 working with key stakeholders including governments to  explore how the events can be staged to protect the health and safety of everyone involved.  This contingency planning process will evaluate health and safety, cricket, partner and host considerations ensuring any decision taken is in the best interests of the sport, its Members and fans.

^^^ They should have taken a decision today. Australia has been reporting very low number of new cases for more than two months now. The situation there is not going to get any better than this. Either they should postpone the tournament or go ahead with it. There is no logic in keeping the fate of the T20 World Cup in a state of suspended animation.

This is not surprising considering the rising cases across the world. The IPL and the T-20 World Cup will most likely be postponed to 2021 unless there is a drastic improvement in the COVID situation.

The problem is not Australia. The problem is foreign players entering their country. I don't blame them for being careful. One foreign player could be asymptomatic and could potentially cause a big blow to their virus containment efforts.

That is the issue right now as the Australian Government is very careful when it comes to re-opening borders. Right now the state borders here are still closed and for any one coming from international have to quarantine for 2 weeks. It will be a big task however it can be done if the Australian Government allows for the T20 world cup to go ahead. The local football league is playing its first game tonight with no crowd still but its a start in the right direction and could be good for the T20 world cup.

The decision from the ICC is to continue with the tournament as planned and they will change if there is another obstacle as you cannot expect what the situation will be a few months from now, we never anticipated the entire world shutting down four months ago and now things are opening up but that cannot be said we will be safe and everything will be the same in the next 4 to 5 months from now. Things were unpredictable earlier and if there is no other crazy wave of virus then we will see the tournament taking place as planned.

While ICC is deciding whether to postpone T20 Worldcup next year, BCCI has decided to host IPL this year. Looks like Ganguly doesn't care about ICC's decision anymore Tongue

The BCCI is working on all possible options to ensure that we are able to stage the IPL this year, even if it means playing the tournament in empty stadiums.

While Mumbai is the most corona affected region in India,  Mumbai Indians have decided to start their training from Today under strict guidelines  Lips sealed

This is very important for Gangualy as this can turn his fortune if he done this all successfully then surely he is going to be hero for them otherwise this can happen as disaster for his future and career because now Corona is doing very badly in India and its not easy for any one handle this all even many players can announce they will stay away from this even money is big factor.

If IPL face cancellation then BBCI is going to lose approx $500 Millions in one go... so clearly they are in deep mess in current situation and desperately want to organize event, let's see if other boards release their players for IPL.

I think the other boards will probably agree. Right now most of the boards has cut short the pay of the players, IPL is a cash cow for the players so eventually they will presurize the Boards for IPL. If IPL is hosted even Bravo will take part in it on behalf of CSK  Tongue

This is going to be a historic blunder from the part of the BCCI. The pandemic in India is yet to peak, and with every passing day there is an increase in the new infections. Three of the metro cities (Mumbai, Delhi and Kolkata) are severely affected and the other cities are not faring that well either. They can make preparations only if the situation comes under control, and in my opinion it may take at least four more months.

Yesterday i was reading live feed of ICC meeting (posted in the last page). for some reason they put up Ian chappell interview, he was basically saying that every board need to stand up against the BCCI. No matter if World cup gets cancel or not, don't send players for IPL and play domestic cricket only..
