I am neither Indian, nor Pakistani. But for now, let's stop this topic diversion. If there is any improvement in the situation between India and Pakistan, then we can resume this conversation.
If there is any improvement there is no point in debating right. I understand they have neighboring issues and they are dealing everything politically and those two countries not playing each other just deprive others of great matches.

If any of you guys are interested in the T20 World Cup 2020, then I have good news for you. Scott Morrison (Australian PM) today announced that 25% crowd will be allowed in the stadiums for major events. He didn't explicitly mentioned the world cup, but there is a good chance that it will move forward now.
This is a positive news and hopefully we will see the world cup as scheduled and now with the minister announcing their intention i am hoping there is no changes in the schedule.

As right now we still have four months and this is good time for them to follow neighbours and do some good work so we will be able to watch this big mega event on time now its possible as they have good sources and they are capable to handle things for good lets wait next announcement from them about this all.

I am also feeling these relationship are not going to improve because its not in favour of politicians and here in sub continent politics is biggest business for a small group which is very powerful so never think about cricket here between these two countries.

This piece of news will give great boost to the International Cricket Council (ICC) & Cricket Australia (CA) to move ahead with the ICC T20 World Cup. On the contrary, the Board of Cricket Control of India (BCCI) hopes of hosting Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 this year will be pegged back.

Yes the Australian Government will allow up to 10k people in stadiums starting soon. Australia have big stadiums so I think it can work and I think it could also work for the T20 world cup if the ICC do go ahead as planned and maybe by then we could see a lot more fans allowed to attend the games. First we must see how this goes with the football games and lets just hope it works out for the best.

If you are talking about the New Zealand strategy they should not follow anyone as Australia is doing a really good job on controlling the situation as they have only under 400 active cases which is not bad. The ICC has not changed the schedule yet and i think they can carry on with the tournament as scheduled.

That is a welcoming news and they have the luxury to do that with the number of active cases really low and they have contained the virus while countries like India shut the entire country for months and did not do anything to combat the situation and now they are opening everything and the number of cases keep on increasing rapidly. We have a few months left and by the time World Cup approaches everything will be back to normal in countries where they did their homework to combat the virus while the rest struggles.

Great news if the Australian government allows matches to happen in a stadium filled with crowds then it will certainly be welcomed by the ICC and also boost the chances of T20 Worldcup happening this year.

I hope everything goes well with the present matches.

The move made by the Australian Government allowing 1/4 of the crowd in the stadiums is definitely good for T20 World Cup. But I think if they host the Worldcup this year, it might become a new hub of infection. Even if everyone follows social distancing and personal hygiene, the spread becomes uncontrollable when large masses gather in one place. So it's better to delay the sport as of now or at least do a trial series between two countries to see if there is a chance of spread.

Meanwhile, Punjab has decided to host a T10 league starting June 15 ( two days from now) until June 30. On June 30, 2 semifinals and the finals will be played on the same day  Tongue

There is also good news coming out of New Zealand as they just had some sports games played with a small amount of crowds and its seems like so far that its been good. Now we just wait to see how it goes in Australia as they plan to allow fans in stadiums some time in July. If all goes well then the T20 world cup looks good to go ahead as planned.

New Zealand has already declared that it is Covid19 free but they are not allowing visitors into their country. Which in my opinion is good looking at the current global situation. I hope Australia also achieve the same status before the T20 Worldcup. It would be great to see those matches.

The Australian public are largely law abiding, and I don't expect any spike in cases as a result of this decision. As vella85 pointed out, football games are ongoing right now in Australia and if everything goes on smoothly, then there is a good chance that the T20 World Cup will start on the date planned earlier. Meanwhile, now it is almost clear that this year's IPL may be cancelled.

IPL cannot happen that is for sure now. Most big cities are now struggling with the growing number of cases. BCCI is helpless at the moment the cannot guarantee anything with the current spike of cases. Indian is already ranking 4th globally as everyday new cases are increasing.

If everything goes well in Australia I am sure we will see T20 Worldcup by the end of this year.

Sunil Gavaskar yesterday commented that chances of IPL looks bleak as compared to World Cup. Also if IPL has to happen it may me of shorter version in early September in Sri Lanka and T20 world Cup could happen in October in Australia if things remain good and no cases happen again in coming months.

What do you mean by shorter version of IPL ?

Will the number of matches be reduced in IPL or the number of teams will be less ? Is there any possibility that this year IPL (if it happens) does not include foreign players ?

Normally it's 45 days tournament ( 60 games). Due to pandemic BCCI started working on shorter version of IPL as backup plan in case pandemic gets worse. Short version is all about getting things done ASAP so less numbers of games for each team (5-7 games per team). As of now there is no restriction on foreign players.

If I remember correctly, we had 1 or 2 matches daily. I think they can still conduct the tournament without reducing the matches but only reducing the days. For instance , they can have 4 matches daily in different stadiums at the same time. This can reduce the tournament to 15 days only instead of 45.

As far as I can tell 4 matches at the same time is not good option due to logistics in current situation and economically it seems bad choice, as there would be no spectators in stands and then there is telly audience angle too, which plays big part. Franchise want maximum number of audience in front of telly when their team is playing. 4 games at the same time formula goes completely against it.

Summarizing it will conclude that Franchise want maximum profit from the IPL. So they will not look at the options which will resume the games but will dent on their profits. That's what I understand from this approach.

@JohnBitco while you’re right about franchises wanting to make maximum profits from IPL, but this year the situation is completely different as BCCI had earlier in March cut their profits by half, hence they’ll have no other option but to agree with this plan put forth by BCCI if they wish to earn any profits for this season. Lastly even if the franchises agree and the BCCI is keen to organise IPL, I don’t think the state governments will give them them the permission to organise it, therefore I believe that we will not be seeing IPL this year unless the BCCI can suddenly compel the governments to give them the required permissions.

Meanwhile, Punjab has decided to host a T10 league starting June 15 ( two days from now) until June 30. On June 30, 2 semifinals and the finals will be played on the same day  Tongue

Is that a new league? never heard of it, guess another state level tournament.

Lol 2 semis and final on the same day, looks like bookies organizing tournament for their kind hahaha

I too haven't heard of it before, this should be a state-level tournament. But I don't understand the need for a state-level tournament right now in India ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When they are allowing state-level tournaments, what makes you think that the state governments won't give permission for IPL? I am sure that there wouldn't be a problem from the Indian Govt or the State Govt if BCCI decides to organise IPL.

Even if the matches can be completed within 3-3.5 hours each, I am sure that there will be a lot of viewer fatigue. Even the die hard fans may not watch more than 2 matches. And that would mean that the audience would decline by at least 50%. And another thing is about the venues. Where are they planning to stage the matches? Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Kolkata.etc are out of the equation. And the other cities are not faring that well either.

Even if it is short IPL it would be great as i would like to watch the series just to wage some bet, the situation in India is getting worse as per the corona virus update site and if they can conduct a mini IPL in Sri Lanka it would be great but will the international players participate in it is unknown and it is highly unlikely they will participate this season. I am certain that the T20 World Cup will continue as scheduled if the situation remains the same in Australia in the next two months.
