^^^^ All sorts of rumors are floating around regarding the IPL. A few hours back, I came across this article: https://www.hindustantimes.com/cricket/a-mumbai-only-ipl-2020-is-a-possibility-report/story-xqX8s415kww6OhRzJeo4yI.htmlOne major IPL shareholder has suggested the idea of the tournament being held entirely in Mumbai and with the ICC yet to make a concrete announcement regarding the future of the T20 World Cup, the BCCI seems to be stuck in limbo. It is just a ridiculous suggestion to stage the IPL in Mumbai, when they have thousands of new cases being detected everyday. Then I noticed the post from JSRAW. This suggestion is also not very practical. GCC nations are reeling from the pandemic right now. The real picture is not out, because there is heavy under-reporting as far as the cases are concerned. IMO, the tournament can't be hosted in any of the GCC nations (including the UAE). Sri Lanka is a slightly better option. But do they have enough infrastructure and facilities to conduct this tournament? How many stadiums do they have, outside Colombo? And finally, my most persisting question regarding this. If they stage the IPL 2020 sometime during Q4 2020, don't they think that it will impact the popularity and revenues of IPL 2021 (which is scheduled for Q1 2021)?

I don't think Sri Lanka will be interested in hosting IPL if given the opportunity thanks to the current World Cup investigation situation. They don't trust their own players which is why I don't think they will even consider the financial incentive in this case. And finally, my most persisting question regarding this. If they stage the IPL 2020 sometime during Q4 2020, don't they think that it will impact the popularity and revenues of IPL 2021 (which is scheduled for Q1 2021)?
IPL 2021 would definitely be affected in this case, but the losses from IPL 2020 and 2021 would be minimal though I am not expecting IPL to be conducted anytime this year.

Srilanka have almost 11 international cricket ground although most of the times. Most of them are in Colombo, however they have some other popular outside colombo too like Hambantota, Pallekele, Dambula. I think they have more than enough ground.

Why will BCCI hold IPL in Srilanka? The situation in India is pretty bad considering the number of cases getting reported daily. In such a situation IPL will be postponed but not played in a different country. Already Indians are boycotting Chinese products and BCCI is in the limelight for not removing the main sponsor of IPL which is a Chinese company and now if they conduct it outside India, things will go completely against them. Forget about IPL there are many big issues that INDIA is currently facing. This year it will not happen.

Finally got to know that IPL 2020 mostly likely will not happen in India and UAE and Sri Lanka are the front runners to host it. BCCI are in talks with this two boards and trying to figure out how and when it can happen. And the worst if BCCI decides to cancel IPL for this years they expect around 4000 crore INR loss . That is the reason they are trying very hard to ensure the IPL happens for this season.

I don't know why you guys always talk about postponing the IPL instead of cancelling it. Do you really think that it is a good idea to have an IPL during the 4th quarter of 2020, and then have the next year's edition just 3 months later? It will be like having back-to-back tournaments without any break in between. I am saying this for many months now. The only viable option is to cancel the IPL 2020 and to concentrate on the preparations for IPL 2021.

I even think that the number of matches will get reduced in those tournaments. Still it's better to cancel IPL this year. There are lots of problems to conduct the IPL. 1. Spectator less gallery. 2. Problem to conduct home and away match. 3. Regular checkups for the players and supporting staff.

The IPL is not making a huge amount of money with spectators as far as i know when you compare them with NBA or any other major sports and the major revenue is broadcasting rights and if the channel is not getting the contents then they will loose out millions of dollars and hence the BCCI will try to carry on with the tournament if it is possible without audience. IPL already conducted outside India in the past and hence it is not a big deal if there is no home or away matches and regular check up is necessary if they want to carry on with the tournament.

Empty stands is not alien scenario in the cricket or any sports. @7788bitcoin already pointed out one counter argument. 2. For starters BCCI aiming to conduct IPL season in UAE or Srl Lanka not India bc both countries are much safer destination in comparison of India. 3. When any series/tournaments takes place in tough condition, the first thing everyone discuss is safety so i think we should leave this to interesting parties. Coming back to @vishnu statement, his position on audience's fatigue or overdose of IPL is true and might backfire on BCCI but we shouldn't forget that after 3-4 months halt due to pandemic audience are hungry for some sort of entertainment in the cricket and then we have revenue angle too.

Everyone ,including me is eagerly waiting for the matches to start. I don't care if there is no crowd in the stadium, all I want is to see the players in action and opportunity to bet on the matches. I think UAE is a much better venue than srilanka for the IPL. There are many more indians in the UAE as compare to srilanka.

This would have been his worst moment for sure.

Yes it is sad because even I was looking forward to the T20 world cup being held in my country but it just isn't going to happen with the cases rising here in Victoria with over 100 cases being recorded yesterday. The problem has come from overseas travellers going into hotel quarantine which is where the outbreak started and hasn't stopped. Now some suburbs are in lockdown once again but it doesn't seem to be helping. Other states are doing well so I was thinking that if there is any chance for the T20 world cup being played maybe the other states can host the final as the football teams from Victoria are now relocating to the other states to keep the season alive so it could also be done for the T20 world cup if they want to. That's of course that the situation in these other states remains under control.

Why is there a talk about audience fatigue when there is no possibility that the ICC will allow the BCCI to conduct their tournament consecutively when the international schedule is halted in the name of pandemic and it will not help anyone as other cricket boards will come up with their franchise cricket and ICC will be forced to take a neutral stand. Nothing new they have done this in the past and it was all political. Is the accusation came from the present sports minister, i thought some former minister came out with the accusation to have some media exposure. I still think this is a media circus as some have mentioned that the investigation is called off.

They still can conduct it by the end of this year, How and Where is still unknown? I am sure most of the executive members of the BCCI do not have a clue as to how will they organize it in such a situation wherein India is ranking as the top 5 countries worst affected by the pandemic.
