"We still remember well the Soviet invasion of Ukraine and Germany. This should be avoided," Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseny Yatsenyuk said.

Well, I remember that Soviet/Russian forces left Germany over 20 years ago but Western occupation forces still remain in that U.S. vassal state.

Now this:

Russia May Condemn "Annexation" Of East Germany

Who says the Russians, increasingly isolated by the west (Europe and the US threatened over the past 24 hours to escalate sanctions yet again) and increasingly more welcome by China, India and the rest of the non-western world don't have a sense of humor? Days after the speaker of the Russian Duma, Sergei Naryshkin, faced scathing criticism of Russia's annexation of Crimean peninsula when he spoke at the Parliament Assembly of Europe, he has come up with a novel suggestion when he asked a committee to study a proposal to condemn the reunification of Germany in 1990.

The logic: (unlike in Crimea) there was no public referendum to merge the two nations, which in turn goes to the legality of the most powerful nation in Europe, a nation, which however as the following maps demonstrate, is still quite divided in most aspects despite over 25 years of unity:

Until it's not closed there are still hope for the troops inside pocket for a breakout. If the DNR-LNR can lure or force these troops into a breakout attempt then they can get them on the move (channeled into killing zones) instead of besiegeing Debaltsevo and wasting manpower, time and supplies. Age old tactic from Subutai.

The fighting continues. Kiev used the seize-fire of the previous months well to regroup and prepare the forces in that particular spot, seeking to separate LNR and DNR. Kiev is still sending fresh munitions and cannon fodder to the Debalcevo pocket.

In the meantime, there was an interesting report today from LNR's facility for repairs of the trophy vehicles, that Kiev abandons after they lose battles. The latest trophy is a Grad launcher, which they hope to have repaired within a few days.

Brilliant move. Russia fights Western hypocrisy with logic.  Grin

By the way, after this year's deprivation of Russia of a voting voice in PACE, Russia will not be sending next year its delegation to this defunct organisation, which now showed to be a complete stooge of USA.

The Consulate General of Poland denies visas to Ukrainian citizens of military age

The Poles want to close all escape routes for the poor Ukrainian villagers, who are trying to escape being drafted in to the army forcefully. Now the only option left is to flee, either towards Russia or towards Hungary.

Well, it´s a bloody scary situation. This kind of semi-trained/untrained militia may be of some use for defensive purposes but for offensive operations - forget it. Will be mowed down like so much cannon fodder and these people know it and try to escape.

Putin's Unexpected Victory: Europe Furious That Greece Is Now A Russian Sanctions Veto

Two days ago, Zero Hedge first, and shortly thereafter everyone else, pointed out something stunning: the biggest surprise to emerge so far out of the new anti-Troika/austerity Greek government was not so much its intention to proceed with the first test of "Odious Debt" - this was largely known in advance - but its dramatic pivot away from Germany and Europe, and toward Russia: The most important message that Tsipras is sending to Europe is that (after meeting the Russian ambassador first upon his election) Greece is now effectively a veto power when it comes to future Russian sanctions!

Quote from: Poutine
To attract Russian troops on the eastern Ukrainian Donbas mobile crematoria to leave no traces of the soldiers who die fighting on the side of separatists - said the head of the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) Valentyn Nalyvaichenko.

"On 20-23 January at the behest of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation on the territory temporarily occupied by the terrorist groups crematoria introduced seven mobile platforms mounted on truck Kamaz" - said the head of the SBU in the television station Channel 5 on Wednesday night.

Naływajczenko reported that in each of such movable crematoria can burn for eight to ten corpses a day, and their work is coordinated by the Russian military intelligence. "These speckamazy were noticed at the end of 2014, the circuit of Rostov (Russia) near the state border of Ukraine," - he said.

The head of the SBU said that every day for a special telephone line his ministry calling dozens of relatives of Russian soldiers who disappeared in Ukraine, and declared that the authorities in Kiev will pay the bodies of the victims of the conflict. SBU press center reported at the same time that the service wanted to officially give the Russians a Russian citizen body named Yemelyanov, but Russian consular services have not responded to this proposal.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko said recently that in the Donetsk and Luhansk circuit, where the last conflict with the separatists, are distributed over 9 thousand. Russian soldiers.

According to the Russian activist Yelena Vasilyeva, which leads to the Facebook profile of "Cargo 200 from Ukraine to Russia", the general loss of Russian forces in Ukraine are 6242 dead. Freight 200 in the terminology of the former Soviet Union army is dead soldiers.

How mothers in Russia will get their boys back ? ... just a simple letter => Dead for unknow reason  Grin  ... a simple pot with some dust ... hoo and of course no compensation as officially they are not in war ground ... of course  Grin

I'm curious if Greece as a member of the EU is bound by the currently imposed sanctions, whether the newly elected government could lift them unilaterally, i.e. without the EU prior consent (since Greece is not going to leave the Union, AFAIK)... Cool

The Republican Army has just turned Debaltsevo pocket into a cauldron, closing the road in and out. 10 tanks and 10 BTRs of the Ukrainian incursors have been destroyed, 8000 soldiers trapped.

Brilliant reader comment. Couldn't have put it better:

Quote
"...All democratic people must respect the democratic decision of voters and a newly-elected government's right to decide its course - but the rest of Europe's citizens should not have to expect changes in Greek politics to burden them," he said..."

WTF?? The sanctions on Russia wouldn't have existed if the U.S would have respected the democratic decision of Ukrainian voters and the Ukrainian government's right to decide it's course.

The EU standing idly by while the U.S. engineers a coup d'etat to overthrow that corrupt prick Yanukovych MERELY to replace him with equally-corrupt Western stooges hardly sounds like respecting anyone's rights to decide their own course.

Apparently they miss the hypocracy aspect...

Quote
On 21 April 1967, just weeks before the scheduled elections, a group of right-wing army officers led by Brigadier General Stylianos Pattakos and Colonels George Papadopoulos and Nikolaos Makarezos seized power in a coup d'etat. The colonels were able to seize power quickly by using elements of surprise and confusion. Pattakos was the commander of the Armour Training Centre , based in Athens.

The coup leaders placed tanks in strategic positions in Athens, effectively gaining complete control of the city. At the same time, a large number of small mobile units were dispatched to arrest leading politicians, authority figures, and ordinary citizens suspected of left-wing sympathies, according to lists prepared in advance. One of the first to be arrested was Lieutenant General Grigorios Spandidakis, Commander-in-Chief of the Hellenic Army. The colonels persuaded Spandidakis to join them, having him activate a previously-drafted action plan to move the coup forward. Under the command of paratrooper Lieutenant Colonel Kostas Aslanides, the LOK took over the Greek Defence Ministry while Pattakos gained control of communication centers, the parliament, the royal palace, and — according to detailed lists — arrested over 10,000 people.

By the early morning hours, the whole of Greece was in the hands of the colonels. All leading politicians, including acting Prime Minister Panagiotis Kanellopoulos, had been arrested and were held incommunicado by the conspirators. At 6:00 a.m. EET, Papadopoulos announced that eleven articles of theGreek constitution were suspended. One of the consequences of these suspensions was that anyone could be arrested without warrant at any time and brought before a military court to be tried. Yannis Ladas, then the director of ESA, recounted in a later interview that, "Within twenty minutes every politician, every man, every anarchist who was listed could be rounded up...It was a simple, diabolical plan".

Georgios Papandreou was arrested after a nighttime raid at his villa in Kastri. Andreas was arrested at around the same time, after seven soldiers armed with fixed bayonets and a machine gun forcibly entered his home. Andreas Papandreou escaped to the roof of his house, but surrendered after one of the soldiers held a gun to the head of his then-fourteen-year-old son George Papandreou. Gust Avrakotos, a high-ranking CIA officer in Greece who was close with the colonels, advised them to "shoot the motherfucker because he's going to come back to haunt you".

U.S. critics of the coup included then-Senator Lee Metcalf, who criticised the Johnson Administration for providing aid to a "military regime of collaborators and Nazi sympathisers." Phillips Talbot, the U.S. ambassador in Athens, disapproved of the coup, complaining that it represented "a rape of democracy", to which Jack Maury, the CIA station chief in Athens, answered, "How can you rape a whore?" Papadopoulos' junta attempted to re-engineer the Greek political landscape by coup.

I don't know how anyone can even believe this BS. According to OSCE, some 5,100 people have died in the fighting so far, and that includes some 100 to 200 Russian volunteers and Cossacks. But more than 6,000 Russian soldiers dead? Then I will have to claim that Kiev might have lost more than 100,000, as the Russian soldiers are much more well armed and better trained when compared to their counterparts in Kiev.

Kiev Regime Confirms that Russian Invasion of Ukraine is a Hoax

Quote
Armed Forces General Staff has information about the participation of soldiers of the army of the Russian Federation in the conflict in eastern Ukraine.

This was announced during a briefing Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Victor Muzhenko.

"To date, we have only the involvement of some members of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, Russian citizens as part of illegal armed groups in the fighting. Fighting units of the regular Russian army today we're also not. We have enough forces and means in order to inflict a final defeat even illegal armed formation "- he said.
