It was a big disgrace to the government of Ivory coast yesterday for allowed such coach to coach their players in this season because, there is no single good performance from their first game that made them to lose against super eagles 0:1 and they still lose against Equatorial Guinea 4:0 without allowed them to score a goal.

I don't think it's fair to say see their choice of coach as embarrassing to their government because no government will intentionally support the hiring of a coach that is bad. He might be the best they saw at the moment they hired him and it turned out he performed below expectations.

No doubt that ivory coast will not make this coach to continue coaching their team again than to start looking for potential coach that will take over from him.

I watched the game between Guinea and Senegal today and it is clear that Nigeria is not one of the favourites to win the African Nations Cup. Both teams put up great performances that would make you think you are watching two European countries. Although Guinea lost the game you could see the determination to win and this is clearly what the Super Eagles lack. The Nigerian team is not organised and some of the players seem to be playing as if nothing is at stake.  For now, Cape Verde, Senegal and Equatorial Guinea are my favourites to win this competition because they have a coordinated and determined team.

Cameroon was just lucky to qualify after a hard fight against Gambia. The match ended 2-3 in favour of the indomitable Lions and they have avoided waiting to qualify as best losers. The Gambian side had nothing to lose but they were playing for pride and they did just that. The match would have ended in a draw if not for the cancellation of the third goal the Gambians scored. I just hope that the Guinean national team will be the best losers because they deserve it.

Senegal are the first team to win all the game in the group stage with a total of 8 goals  and conceded only one, Senegal end the group stage with 9 points, with their performance I can say they are ready to lift the trophy on like Egypt and Nigeria that are Playing mess, they just qualified with luck because with what they are play the don't deserve to even qualify.

Finally Cameroon make it out by winning Gambia 3-2 with 4 points, the same points with Guinea but just the goals different, that is why is good to score many goals if there is opportunity, Cameroon just take the advantage of goals different to qualified, let see if really they worth the qualified, the next stage can tell if really they are good.

Guinea have tried even better than the host, if they can play like Guinea they will not be blamed.

I think I this year African cup of nations, we have seen the worst performance from the the top teams with rich history in the competition, just take a look at ivory coast the host nations, they are already out as it stance, they are now just hoping and praying to be among the best losers.

How will cape Verde island top a group that have the likes Pharos of Egypt and the black 🌟 star of Ghana? The both top teams have performed really badly according to their level in African football, and the Ghanaian national team have been the worst of them all, only 2 point in possible 9, in their own case the are entirely out. With the way the top teams are playing in this competition I think their is more surprising result coming, because Nigerian performance haven't been good either, they are just good at grinding out results, even though their performance have been relatively poor, lets just watch out for the other top guys to look how they are going to perform today and tomorrow.

Well AFCON is seen to be one very tough competition after the EUROS and this year’s edition of AFCON haven’t failed to offer its own surprises. Normally it’s always said that in the AFCON we don’t have huge number of goals in a match but in this year’s edition, we’ve got most matches having 4 goals.

 Talking about top teams underperforming, Ivory Coast securing just 3 points out of possible 7-9 is pretty crazy. Let’s not even go to Group B which is being topped by Cape Verde an Island that doesn’t stand a match to  Egypt or Ghana, that’s crazy as we see Ghana struggling in this group and are obviously out. Nigeria, yea qualified but have just had only 1 goal they worked well apart from the Penalty awarde against the host. Well I think this AFCON will take it’s shape from the Quarter Finale because I know we’ll still have some surprises in the Round of 16.

From the very first match I watched Nigeria play against Equatorial Guinea I knew Nigeria was no favorite in this tournament. It's sad because they have the players to go all the way, but they don't have the coach and the coaching staff for that.
The way Nigeria plays, it's obvious the coach is the one getting everything wrong. He's too defensive and he doesn't know how to utilize the players he has.
Sharp wingers like Chikwueze and Lookman are a shadow of themselves. Osimhen who is the best striker in Africa is always so far away from the 18-yard box. He is mostly in his half. The most creative midfielder in the team, Iwobi is always so deep. What kind of an ugly setup is that?

I didn't watch the Guinea vs Senegal game, I watched the Cameroon vs Gambia game instead. What a game it was. An end-to-end attack. Proper football. My bet was on Cameroon and they delivered. I lost hope when they were losing 2-1 but they turned things around.

Senegal is the only team that finished the group stage with 9 points. That shows the competitiveness of the tournament.
This AFCON is more interesting than Euro 2020. Very interesting matches every day so far.

Many Nigerian fans are quite disappointed with the performances of the Super Eagle in this competition, the team hardly retain any string of passes before being dispossessed by their opponents and most of the match played they team sat back and play defensively leaving on Osimhen off front thus isolated him without any support that is why only few chances was created by the team even the few chances that came their way Osimhen squandered them, many supporters are of the opinion that the team might not pass the round of 16 based on the average and mediocre performance displayed by team so far, they narrowly won two of their matches and scored only 2 goals apart from own goal scored by Guinea Bissau player.

We need to appreciate their effort and performance because it was not easy for them as well.
I agree with you that they had average performance so far, but lets hope they improve as we advance into the next stage of the competition. Equatorial Guinea was the best team in that group because there were able to eliminate the host county Ivory Coast with a classic performance because only the Super Eahles were able to take a point against them.
The Super Eagles of Nigeria will be playing against Cameroon in the round of 16; The manager need to make all the necessary arrangements and preparations for that match, we need a better performance in all the remaining stages of the competq.

The Super Eagles have been solid defensively but we do not have a good attack. I think it’s a problem of methodology, that’s why we are not having enough goals in this tournament. José Peseiro needs to change the team’s style of play to something more technical ahead of the game against Cameron on Saturday.

Ivory Coast losing four goals to nil to Equatorial Guinea was a big shock. This was the host team and they couldn’t even get a goal against their opponent. The last time Nigeria hosted the AFCON, they won. When Ghana hosted the AFCON, they also won. It’s disappointing to see Ivory Coast struggling so early in the tournament.

From the first match that Nigeria played in the Afcon group stage until the last match that they played. Nigeria was not playing like a club that’s really prepared to win the league. If Nigeria can continue to play like this, then I'm sure they won’t really go far, their performances are just kind of annoying, and most of their matches are just won by luck. The most painful part is that Nigeria has always had opportunities to score in all their matches, but they are always missing all the opportunities that they have. The most annoying part is that Ivory coast are the host nation and they got disgraced in front of their home fans. Although EQG is a strong side judging from their display in the last Afcon tournament, they were good and eliminated some good teams back then. When this tournament started I knew that EQG was a team to watch out for and unfortunately Ivory coast didn't take them that serious, thinking that they were the underdog.

Sometimes, even if a team is stronger than the opponent, as long as they are playing at home, you will see the weaker team perform extremely well so that they won’t embarrass themselves at home. It is not good to see a team come to your home and win you, which has happened to Ivory Coast. I was thinking Ivory Coast would do the best they could to see that they win EQG, but they failed to do that, which is shameful for them.

Although we know that the last AFCON EQG was a stronger team, and you were right when you said they kicked out many stronger teams, yes, but what makes many people think that they won’t be stronger or win Ivory Coast is that Ivory Coast was playing at home, so everyone was expecting a positive result from Ivory Coast. I have been watching the discussion here and I think it’s a shame we do not have Ghanaians on this thread. I would have loved to hear their opinion on the AFCON especially after their performance last night. How can you be two goals up and end up conceding two goals in extra time lol. In time past, Ghana used to be a contender for the title but these days they are not even in the conversation. They are no longer a team to be feared. At this point, they should be packing their bags to go home.

These AFCON 2023 games never cease to surprise me, there were a lot of games today. Cameroon played against Gambia, in a game in which I saw Cameroon managing to win without having any major difficulties, but to my surprise Cameroon had a lot of difficulties in that game, Cameroon scored the first goal and it really looked like Cameroon would win the game. without having many difficulties, but gambia scored a goal and the game was draw, then gambia once again scored a goal and the game was tied. Cameroon was lucky to benefit from an own goal to get a draw in that game and when it really looked like the game would end in a draw, Cameroon was lucky again when they scored a goal in the 91st minute. the luck that Cameroon had allowed them to come out of this game with victory

Honestly, looking at the games from this AFCON 2023 and comparing them with the Euro games, I see that there is still a big difference in the level of quality and competitiveness in relation to the Europeans, although we are improving, I still think we could improve a lot. The impression I have is that African players who play for the big teams in Europe, when they come to play in Africa, they don't try very hard, they probably don't try very hard because they are afraid that they will get injured and when they return to their teams in Europe they could lose their place because they were injured for a long time. This for me could be the origin behind the little effort that many African players who play in Europe have made in this competition

Senegal by far are the best currently in the continent and that’s why they are the defending champions, if you look at how they play with such organization and coordination you will be wowed. They still came out victorious in this match and are definitely keeping the perfect record heading into the the last 16s, any country meeting them will definitely have to up their game too. Cape Verde also have proven to be a great footballing nation of recent, I remember the last two AFCON where they actually played well but fell short on the road. Same thing with Equatorial Guinea they even reached the quarter finals too something both Ivory Coast and Nigeria couldn’t do, so with North African countries having difficulty in coming out form their respective groups this three are also my pick for now.

The game against Cameroon I don’t think Nigerian national team needs to be too scared, Cameroon haven’t also been playing well in this competition and if we can take our chances when they come then we could proceed.

I will like to see how you will breath if you are allows to run 100m race, some of you downplay Super eagles and it's not encouraging, like I use to say give them some credit and stand with it, Ghana has all with 7 good total goals in the group stage but they should be at home resting now, someone jokingly said they will use their 24/7 electricity to watch Nigeria matches while it last.

I think Nigerians are trying even if I dint get the vibe of old Nigerian players. Our yesterday match ended with an own goal but do you think tte defender was going to have own goal if not because of the pressure? The pressure was much in the first half and second half of that match, but Nigerian players didn't want to be aggressive because that coach seems to be not happy, too serious like it was a final match sharing yellow card like to everyone and double mistake will cost them a player loosing the next match.

They now qualify for the round of 16, Guinea currently holds third place in group C, while Cameroon aims to finish in second place. The good thing about the Nigerian team is that our defense is strong, and can withstand attacks from Cameroon, but we need to score goals. The one goal we have been getting in each game in the group stages may not be enough to help us win this game. Cameroon are a strong opponent, our neighbors, we cannot take them as a joke. The AFCON this year will not seize to amaze me, imagine a country like Mauritania winning a strong country like Algeria that have won the AFCON competition on two occasions even to the extent of eliminating them from the AFCON at just group stages thereby Algeria couldn't qualify for the knockout stages. Who would have believed from the beginning of the group stage matches that Algeria wouldn't be able to qualify for the round of sixteen considering the fact that they seem like the strongest country in their group but just look at them now at the bottom of their group table after they played 3 matches, draw 2 out of the 3 and were unable to win even a single match.

Well, I love what am seeing in the AFCON this year like in football, it shouldn't always be those stronger teams that ought to be winning all the time as the lesser teams also needs to improve and rewrite their stories rather than always giving up whenever they are faced with the stronger opponents so definitely, what's happening in the AFCON is kind of entertaining because the competition is really becoming tougher for each of the countries and we are yet to witness more surprises in the knockout stages because that's where the real competition would be very visible for all to witness.

So far, here are the teams that have qualified for the AFCON knockout stages: Cape Verde (Group B winner), Senegal (Group C winner), Equatorial Guinea (Group A winner), Nigeria (Group A runner-up), Egypt (Group B runner-up), Cameroon (Group C runner-up), Angola (Group D winner), Burkina Faso (Group D runner-up). For now this eight teams have qualified for the knockout stages pending the teams that will qualify after the matches to be played later on today and the four best third teams that would be selected from each of the groups. Congratulations to the countries that qualified for the next round of this AFCON competition indeed it wasn't easy at all.
