2241  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: GREENPEACE INTENSIFIES CAMPAIGN AGAINST BITCOIN FOLLOWING ETHEREUM'S MERGE on: September 23, 2022, 04:34:04 PM
Here is the link: https://bitcoinmagazine.com/business/greenpeace-intensifies-campaign-against-bitcoin-after-ethereum-merge.

They just don’t get it. Of course, it is impossible to understand something when their income depends on not understanding it. Well, this is the difference between honesty (Bitcoin) and total moral corruption (Ethereum and the rest of the fiat world).

I repeat. There is no such an invention in PoS. This is the way fiat currencies and even the gold standard worked since the origins of monetary history. All modern nationalized fiat currencies (the USD, the EUR, the GBP, etc.) are already digital and working under the PoS model.  Where is the innovation? Nowhere.

This is the computer versus the typing machine, and old fogeys proposing going back to the typing machine because computers spend energy. Well, you type… I’ll use a computer. Let’s see who wins.

2242  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Accepting Bitcoin for a business on: September 23, 2022, 03:41:30 PM
Hello everyone

I have a question for the people that run their own business and they accept Cryptocurrency.

We have multiple services online and we only accept bitcoin/LTC/ETH/dogecoin and USDT (but only 1%-5% of our customers use it)
The problem we are facing is our customers send us the payments and we keep the payments in the store wallet (plisio), we don't withdraw and exchange the money unless a certain amount has been reached, because if we exchange the amounts on every transaction then we will lose a lot of money.

and in the past 3-4 days bitcoin was going down a lot and we lost a lot.

So we are effected by :
1- Withdrawals fees
2- Exchange fees
3- Current market prices
4- We can't HODL or keep the money longer than 7 days because we are a business and we have a lot of expenses/providers we have to pay.

My question is how do you people manage to keep as much profit as you can? how do you not get effected by the market prices?

Thank you in advance!

Well, you could always plan a budget in advance and just cash out the Bitcoin for fiat as soon as you make the sale. The rest of the profit that you do not need for your business expenses can be put in a hodl pile. As to the budget, you should have a rough idea of how much your expenses will be. If you really want to play it safe then sell and withdraw your Bitcoin on the same day as you receive them. That way you will not have to worry about volatility.

As to the fees question, you can integrate the fees into the prices. Although honestly, if you use exchanges to transfer Bitcoin, they will charge your ridiculous fees. So use a wallet like Electrum.
2243  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How mentally prepared are you? on: September 23, 2022, 03:36:52 AM
I really do not think that anyone comes into the sphere of Bitcoin ready. Who was ready when they first started out with Bitcoin? Nobody. We just tried it and started learning more and more and also making one mistake after another. I think the newbies need to travel the same path and find out what Bitcoin is and what it stands for. Saying something like "how mentally prepared are you?" might make it all seem like a hard-to-do thing and that alone might discourage newbies from becoming coiners.

The only real mental preparation you need is understanding how increasingly worthless fiat is becoming and why the reason is for that. Thats the core motivation to start wanting to keep your money safe. Especially from becoming worthless.
2244  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How much money do you leave in crypto casino? on: September 23, 2022, 02:50:53 AM
Since most of the crypto casino nowadays offers free withdrawal fee on most of the cryptocurrency sometimes immediate withdrawal after the game is very convenient now but for players like me that usually play on irregular basis, I really want to leave my balance on the casino so that I can play immediately whenever I like.

I only leave money on casino balance if it’s less than 1000$ or less but this is only applicable on casino that I used for more than a year.

What about you guys? Do you leave your balance in your casino balance or you withdraw immediately regardless of the reputation of the casino?

I don't leave any balance on the casino as 99% of the times I lose all of the money that I have allocated for playing. In the rare 1% case where I win also withdraw immediately my money as I have the opinion that money stays better in a wallet where I have the private keys rather in some third party wallet where I don't own the private keys despite the casino being one of the most reputable ones or the most reputable one.

I have been burned by CEX.io centralized exchange where they have frozen my funds by their will despite me proving them all evidence that my funds come from mining so I don't leave money or balance in any other place that is a wallet in my full control,I learned the hard way but better late than ever.

I agree. Leaving money on any centralized platform, whether a crypto gambling casino or some exchange will always lead to problems. Not your keys, not your coins.

However I am amazed and sad that something like that happened to you. I wonder why the froze your account despite your evidence? Were they even legally allowed to just do that? If you believe that you have been wronged and want your money back then maybe you should talk to a lawyer or something? I cannot really give you any advice as you are the only one who knows what happened.

Hope you get your money back, though! Centralized services are never to be trusted! Decentralization was invented to fight against those types of dirty tactics...
2245  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Twitch To Ban Gambling Streaming By October 18th. on: September 23, 2022, 02:23:10 AM

~snip

What do you guys think of this development?
According to the published article, the reason for the ban is due to backlash they(Twitch) received from influencers.

Do you think backlash received from influencers is enough reason for Twitch to ban gambling streaming on their platform?

I am a bit worried at this development, to be honest. Not only is twitch shooting themselves in the foot by banning a large audience as well as many infliencers, but they are also destroying an important part of the gambling casinos cash-flow. I think bigger online gambling casinos won't bother this as much as it will the smaller casinos trying to make names for themselves. Marketing tactics will have to become a bit sneakier. I wonder what kind of marketing the casinos will go for next, once gambling streams become completely regulated away  Huh
2246  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to choose an online casino? on: September 23, 2022, 12:00:45 AM
the current problem is that when someone goes to google to do research they will find many casino review sites but they are sites of people who because they were paid will write good things about the casino even if the casino is a scam, that's why many people are still using scam casinos. and only after being tricked and robbed and people discovering this forum

Going to review sites is not and has never been considered doing research. Its a lazy way to buy into a scam. Someone, in this case, a third party review is going to tell me which casinos are best? Sorry Thats not going to work. I would not trust them to tell me the truth but rather try to sell me their endorsed scam.

But no need to grow anxious, there is a better way of finding good casinos. You first of all search for negative reviews. Nobody pays for other people to post negative reviews. Those can be widely trusted. After that you visit the gambling site and go through their rules (terms and conditions) and have a look at whos running the casino, whether they have a license and if need be, they would have a social media or telegram channel you can ask questions on.

2247  Economy / Economics / Re: Will crypto jobs make government jobs irrelevant in the near future? on: September 22, 2022, 11:01:51 PM
I think that at most, and speaking completely out of my imagination, in such a case as you described, we would probably invent a new kind of decentralized government for crypto. That would be really neat. Incorruptible, automated and decentralized democracy. That is really the next stage we need to improve our democratic system, if you ask me. Hell, even things like Visas should be decentralized to stamp out forgeries. There is so much new potential that has not been explored yet. But I have no doubts that it will be implemented someday in the future, hopefully soon.
Blockchain used in political stuff would be amazing. Right now the spending that governments do could be seen in some websites but for some reason people do not really prioritize that for elections, if the part that wants to become the ruling part, and the part that is ruling part all attacked each other on which one spends money where, and who gets paid how etc etc, the money that goes in and out, then we would have a chance.

Blockchain could help that, that way everyone would know who spends money on what, and everyone would be more careful, all politicians would be careful about where they are getting money and where they are spending it as well.

The old phrase "Don't trust, verify" would become an entirely new meaning in the world of future politics. No more scandels, no more voting fraud or sham politicians winning over votes with shady methods. Blockchain could indeed become a very powerful tool. The democratic system that we have now has been cracked, has so many loopholes and insane, unneeded and unecessary bureaucracy attached to it, that we as a species should not be trying to make it harder for ourselves by doing things by the same old ways that we are used to. We really should think a step further and implement blockchain in politics.

2249  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gacha Game on: September 22, 2022, 05:03:04 AM
Anyone here played games like FGO, Epic Seven, or Summoners War before? Do you consider it to be some kind of gambling addiction if a player whales or spend tons of money in the game just to get a certain item?

For those who don't know, a gacha game is a genre of video game where players pull, spin, or roll using an in-game currency to receive a random item. That item can be something that could make their characters stronger or sometimes it's just some limited skin which has no effect other than to make their characters look cooler.

Personally, I have never had the pleasure of trying out "Gacha Games" but it does ring a bell. I think it has to do with Japanese gambling that was modified due to Japan's extremely strict gambling laws. They basically found a loop-hole in the law to make sure the payout was not in cash but in a token which you could then use to "purchase" certain prizes, like bars of gold (Which you could then exchange for actual money). It seems like a silly grey area that they should have gotten rid of already but the Japanese seem to enjoy gambling too much to close down the concept of Gacha...

Personally I would steer clear. Why? Because those tokens can become completely worthless the moment vendors decide not to accept them any longer.
2250  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How to choose an online casino? on: September 22, 2022, 04:55:41 AM
choosing the right online gambling casino? That may be a bit difficult due to how much research you should do before trusting them (or anyone running centralized services) with your funds. Bitcointalk is a very active and morally conscious place and we have a very active sub-forum for gambling. So everybody is always looking out for bad and good casinos. A lot of data can be found in this sub-forum. Other than researching, I guess I would have to say you need to try a few casinos out for yourself if you want to understand when you find a "good one". Its all a subjective experience.
2251  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Nobel prize for Satoshi. on: September 22, 2022, 04:28:18 AM
Satoshi Nakamoto does indeed deserve a nobel prize in economics for the discovery of next-gen money. I think he has given the people part of their freedom back and that is worth so much to me that its indescribable. If we knew his identity he probably would have already gotten one. But I do not think that faceless anonymous people with fake names get awarded nobel prizes. Which, is a wrong way to think. I would want to honor Satoshi Nakamoto either way. Even if he is just a "decentralized being".

If you really think about it, shouldn't we all be striving towards his attitude of "I don't need nor want fame, power or wealth. This invention is for the people Do what you will with it".

Wew... caught my lil selfie.. just in time.

I agree from a different perspective.

Getting our energy needs from oil and gas is the problem. Bitcoin mining could be powered by green energy. We could produce more than enough green energy for all our needs if big oil wasn't screwing everyone over by manipulating politicians in their favor.

I thought that bitcoin systems were adding towards the creation of better incentives for bitcoin miners to seek lower cost energy, and I did not know that bitcoin gave too many shits about which kind of energy as long as it was relatively cheaper in terms of not necessarily competing with higher energy demand areas.

So without even pushing to control the kinds of energy that bitcoin would use, it would somewhat naturally seek the less expensive stuff and therefore cause incentives that even off the places in which energy might be trapped or wasted - and therefore maybe even increasing incentives to produce more energy overall because bitcoin mining would be creating value where there had not previously been value.. potentially making the pie BIGGER for everyone.

You seem to be getting into dangerous territory, goldkingcoiner if you are suggesting that some kinds of energy production is bad or should be discouraged, and for sure there seem to be weird battles regarding energy production in recent time.. that seem to be devolving into telling people what kinds of energy they are permitted to use and not to use.. which then seems to exacerbate some of the worsening production issues.. or supply side issues.. and sure, it does not help to be having a BIG battle with Russia around this topic either..

I am not against "green energy" in principle but there seems to be a lot of weird control issues going on, and even the solution to high energy prices seems to be to print more money rather than to increase production of energy.. sure some of that energy can come from "cleaner" sources, but we should not be living in a time in which any of us should have to consider rationing energy and just that regular peeps should be able to have access to energy.. and of course, if there are shortages of energy.. it seems like a production side issue.. not as much of a demand issue.. and yeah incomes of people around the world is not equally distributed, either.

There's low hanging fruit too, no?.. and maybe a lot of the plastic does float to the surface.. perhaps perhaps.. are there any garbage patch experts in these here parts?

I suppose that I could look it up on the interwebs, if I was more ambitious.

Who's paying for it?

What do they do with the garbage?

I heard that recycling is a scam, and it doesn't really happen on the scale that we had been told in the 70s... so there are various differences in the kinds of plastics that would NOT have much if any "recyclable" value... so then which kinds of plastics can actually be recycled.. and then are they sortable.. or are we just being sold a bag of tricks.. and there is not much if any value in recycling a large number of items that we previously thought to be recyclable?

The heavy mining energy costs are definitely driving us towards green energy.

The cost of electricity is calculated from generation, transmission, and distribution. Generation is the lucrative part for big oil and the part they do not want to let go of. Green energy would actually be the cheaper alternative, if fully implemented. Renewable energy sources are already the cheapest energy sources since 20201. Big oil is tricking people in so many nefarious ways. Its shocking, really.

You're right. Recycling plastic is definitely a scam. Another scam by big oil / big plastic to dupe people into buying more plastic. Fuck polluters and their bullshit mentality towards our planet.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LELvVUIz5pY

FYI

theymos doing what he does best...

Bravo....

Note that I've decided to suspend ad sales. These auctions will probably be permanently ended, and I'm not sure whether or in what form advertising in general will be continued. Maybe some ads will go up again fairly soon, or maybe there will never be any more ads; I haven't decided yet. The main reasons for this decision are:

Firstly, I'm finding it too difficult to determine which services are legit/safe and which are not. It takes me 30+ minutes to research each new service to reach at least some level of confidence in it, but at the end of this I often still don't feel fully confident. Bitcointalk.org is meant to be operated "as a service to the community", so it's very important to me that bitcointalk.org not be seen to be putting profit above the interests of its users. (I've been kind of shocked at the crypto-related ads that are shown on TV, which are often way beyond anything I'd accept here. And I'd like to tighten our standards.)

.....

Finally, bitcointalk.org has a large reserve of BTC, so we're able to continue operating without ad revenue for many years. It's not even necessary to cut expenses or find replacement sources of revenue anytime soon, and I currently have no solid plans to do these things. I do regard it as less than ideal to be operating at a constant loss, especially because it constraints any desired future growth in expenses. Improving this situation will be on my mind in the coming years, but luckily it need not be a high priority.

He could just offer to reputable companies with longstanding reputations. Economically, that would be the better decision. We do want to advertise our forum so more people join and learn about Bitcoin, do we not? Marketing costs money too.
2254  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Invitation to teach Bitcoin in a school on: September 20, 2022, 11:04:25 PM
Two weeks ago,I posted a thread on the forum about spreading Bitcoin awareness in my area and my place of work, which I shared flyers to people in my area about teaching Bitcoin, so that anyone interested can easily contact me. This innovation has started yielding good friuts. One evening I received a call from a lady I don't know, she asked if she was speaking to the person that his contact was on the flyer,I said yes. She introduced herself to me as Mrs Susan Wilson, then said she will love to see me so that we can discuss. This woman is a proprietress  to one of the private schools in my area called Legacy Comprehensive College, we booked an appointment to my own convinent time which she was OK with.
The next day I went to see her in office, to my greatest surprise she told me to teach her students in the senior secondary school about Bitcoin. I was astonished and marvel on her initiative for her students to learn Bitcoin in school. I then asked her about her knowledge in bitcoin, she said it was her husband that told her alittle about bitcoin. After much discussions she concluded by saying, she wants the best for her school and to create a difference in the area by teaching them more about reality of life than just books. She also asked how much will she pay for the class and I told her that its a voluntary service.

We fixed a date for that class but because of my busy schedule with work,It didn't work out. On Sunday evening Mrs Susan Wilson called again, saying that hope I will be able to come the next day which was yesterday for the class that she has already informed the students. I thought of it and told her that I will come on Tuesday which is today. Yesterday I met with my boss and told him I will becoming three hour late to work today which he permitted me.

Today being Tuesday 20th of September is my birthday so I voluntarily taught the students of Legacy Comprehensive College,SSS2 class Bitcoin, as my birthday gift to them. It was really a wonderful day, teaching these lovely and brilliant students  about bitcoin, even a staff of the school also joined in the class, he said he loves to learn something new as a teacher. A lot of questions was been asked by the students,a girl even asked how can you own a bitcoin which I told them all they need to know about bitcoin excluding the investment aspect, the class lasted for one and half hour. This is my first time to teach Bitcoin in school, after the class I saw that the students were so excited learning something new.

Mrs Susan Wilson is the lady beside me, she pleaded with me to come back and take them the practical class on Bitcoin that the school has a computer lab.
My birthday was fun teaching these students,I had to take this pictures for remembrance and to also show to forum members to update you about  this. I need your contributions or observations, advice to my passion of spreading Bitcoin in my locality.

Happy Birthday, OP! May you live a healthy, bitcoin filled life.

As to your classes -
I have some ideas for you, if you like:

  • I think if you post your teaching materials and teaching plans in this thread, we can help you with fine-tuning the details. Brainsourcing from Bitcointalk can be a quite powerful teaching tool, I believe.
  • A good idea would be teaching them risk management and not to sell on emotion first and foremost. Or they might lose all their money like panicky newbies.
  • Also, if you gather donations for, lets say, about $1-5 worth of Bitcoin to each student, they can explore how Bitcoin works for themselves. (Think of it as homework which also gives rewards)
2255  Economy / Gambling / Re: Stake.us social casino review- Play legally at Stake in US on: September 20, 2022, 07:24:08 PM
Hey guys,

You probably know that stake.com is not available to play in the United States. Some people advise using a VPN for this, but this is risky, especially when it comes to withdrawing your winnings.

The legal option is to play in Stake.us social casino. It is a sweepstakes casino, meaning that instead of directly depositing funds into your account, you purchase the so called Gold Coins. They can be used to play for fun in the social casino and cannot give you real winnings. However, for the purchased Gold Coins, you receive Stake Cash as a bonus. When you play with it, you play for real money rewards, which you can redeem.

If playing at Stake.us sounds interesting to you, you can check our detailed review: https://thecryptobonus.com/stake-us-sweepstakes/

Cheers,

I would recommend against using VPNs as if you get caught, you might get your money frozen and account banned. I would take the terms and conditions seriously and not try to outsmart the casino. I have personally not heard of anyone who got caught using a VPN but I am sure that there are tell-tale signs that an account is using a VPN. For example, they have a new IP from a different country every time they log into their Stake account.

Better safe than sorry. Especially if they can just take your money.

If someone bet high amount (20k)+ on this casino and win  like 2-5x time more his money.

would the casiino pay him or find excuse not to pay and ban his account?

I think they would be lawfully obligated to pay. Unless they find the account breaking the terms of service like using a VPN from a banned country or not providing KYC or something. Obviously any and all businesses, especially online gambling casinos, would hate to give away such large amounts of money if there are ways of keeping it. I think its a bit devious of them to act like this but business is business. The moment you registered on their website you agreed to adhere to their rules. So any rulebreaking can lose you your winnings.

2258  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Choices: Gamble or Help the poor ? on: September 19, 2022, 07:45:31 PM
In order to understand the psychology of gamblers, i have decided to come up few questions for discussions, and here is the first one.

Suppose that you are a responsible gambler who have allocated a certain portion of money to gamble each month. Now you came across a poor person/family who is in urgent need of money. Will you quit the gambling for that month and give the allocated money to the poor family or will you prefer to gamble as you can't live without gambling ?

If you want, you can do both. Just give them half of your winnings and then everybody is happy. Unless you lose all your money. Then you will be one of the poor people without having helped anyone.  Roll Eyes Tongue

Its really up to you and you should not feel bad for your choices. You earned that money. Nobody should shame anyone else for not walking their subjective moral guide-lines.

That being said, if it would make you happier to donate it all, then maybe you should do whatever makes you happiest. If gambling makes you more happy, then gamble. There really is not much reason to make a topic about this.

I would not really consider the sum amount of $300 dollars worth of winning "beating Duelbits". They make what, hundreds of millions each year? At the very least?  Grin If anything I doubt that anyone from Duelbits even noticed they lost.  Tongue

However, congratulations are in order. You did win a nice amount of money and hopefully you will put it to good use! If it were me I would probably lose it all gambling and then have a bad day because of that. Probably even a bad week.

Good luck in your future gambling adventures!

No matter what is the market move, day traders consistently make money.

in fantasyland, maybe

I make money daytrading. The secret is not to take losses and use incremental amounts of money to buy/sell (DCA). Everyone starts out by losing money until they learn how to feel the market. And even then we make bad trades. The secret is to let the bad trades sit in your hodl-pile instead of selling at a loss.

BTFD and DCA basically.

Could this week mark the final *large-ish* Fed rate hike? The stonk market certainly thinks so....one final massive short push before the trend starts to reverse.
