Wanted to update that both miners have been stable since changing them to static instead of DHCP + the Jan 7th Firmware update.
I noticed the "Discarded" column value for me is nearly twice as large as "accepted"
For example right now I have 556 accepted, 5 rejected, 1333 discarded.
Frequency is 350M.  Pool hash rate is showing 1065GH so it must not be hurting the pool rate much if at all.
Is this normal, or something I should change?

Yeah that's fine, discarded shares mean nothing.
2702  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ASICMiner BE300S Samples Arrived, <0.2W/G Achieved at Board Level on: January 19, 2015, 12:40:34 AM
Yeah, it is fairly flat. The upperbound on clocking is going to depend on a lot on how easy it is to keep the chips cool. If they're like AM's chips of the past though, they won't mind high temperatures too much, but in a 5x5mm package (if I'm remembering right, it's several pages back) that's a real question. I know BE100 chips, in I believe a 6x6mm package, it took some rigging to make them run reliably at 4W dissipation. That was a PCB-cooled chip with not-the-best PCB-heatsink contact though (at least on Blades), so maybe a top-cooled chip will have a better overall thermal resistance between case and sink?

5x5mm is a 30% reduction in surface area which is a huge hit. Getting that heatsink right is going to be mighty important as to the formfactor of the device. Nice thin blades like in the Cube at this point are really required to get any sort of 'next generation' density out of these things.

I'd like to see about a 30-chip board that can be software volt/clocked between 100 and 300GH with a quiet fan and can run off a DC brick. That'd make a really good entry-level miner, Jalapeno or U3 market sector.

Maybe I should just go design it. But that's about three projects away. But I think it's a good idea.
Yeah, this chips scales quiet good. Bitmain's chips don't do well in that matter. Going to double hashrate means decreasing efficiency almost twice.

With AM chips double hashrate = only 25% worse efficiency.
 3.6GH/s | 0.2095W/G
 7.2GH/s | 0.2495W/G

That's not really a fair comparison when the BE300 is running / being tested in a range far far lower than the BM1384 is running at. If the graph continued back towards 0 it would probably look very, very similar to that of the AM chip.
2703  Other / Meta / Re: DPR subpoena on: January 18, 2015, 11:19:43 PM
This is not very surprising/interesting, but I thought I'd mention that I received a subpoena for information related to Ross Ulbricht's alleged forum account altoid. I mostly just compiled some publicly-available information. The only non-public data I had to include were some deleted posts in the heroin store topic that were not written by DPR and probably won't be useful in the case.

You might be surprised to learn that this is the first subpoena I've received for the forum.

Is there any update about what happened here ?

He received a subpoena, he replied to it. What is there to update?

What did the office smell like? What was everyone wearing?

Thats not what a subpoena is... You most often reply in writing against a sworn statement + information.

does changing fans breaks warranty?

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=928932.0

i used 2 quiet 15 blade fans Smiley

BitmainWarranty will have to answer that, I can't set precedence as I'm not an employee.
2705  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Finally not loud Antminer S5, very cheap mod :) on: January 18, 2015, 11:16:00 PM
170 m3/h is around 100 cfm.

Its low for the S5. This is why your temp is around 65. You should try to get below 60. (IMO)

But nice setup! 100 cfm for 20 db is pretty nice.  Grin

45 dba. Its worth pointing out that the temps are above what would be considered acceptable, even with a 20C ambient and so these particular fans won't be appropriate for most.

2707  Other / Meta / Re: Activity & new membergroup limits on: January 18, 2015, 09:37:10 PM
And I need 960 Activity for a legendary, right?

Depends, it is a random number between 740 and 1000 off the top of my head. Not exact numbers.
It isn't exactly random. There is a formula to calculate how much activity each user needs to become legendary. It is based on their UID#

Really? I thought it was random to have you got a link which can confirm this?

The forum calculates a SHA-1 hash using the user ID number and an additional un-announced "salt" value. It adds the value of the first byte of that hash to 775 to determine what activity level earns you "Legendary".

If you know what the un-announced "salt" value is, then you can compute exactly when you will become legendary.  Since the output of SHA-1 is unpredictable when you don't know the exact input, the result is essentially random to anyone that doesn't know the un-announced "salt" value.

I don't see why we couldn't be told this value, or simply work it out if we have a few different member's threshold activities? For fun of course, because we are sad.
2708  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S4 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 18, 2015, 09:30:39 PM
Another dead S4 PSU, same S4.
This unit has not ran a full week.
Second PSU failure and both are B2 PSUs with the bar code.
I pulled the cover and can not find a visual reason.
Checked incoming 240 and I have 122 on each leg.
The ground is connected. This happened int he middle of the night and it popped the 50 A breaker.
When this PSU went, it must have really locked down.

I pulled the PSU and connected back to mains and nothing, not even the bump I usually;y see when power is connected.
Yes I held the button.

Anything I am missing here? Fuse inside PSU?

I spent a grand and can't run 7 straight days with this unit.
Guess what I bought at the same time that hasn't been down yet? Two SP20s.
I have been working on the S3s and S4sm so much I haven't had time to get the 240 power ready for the S20s. Guess I'll have time now waiting on another PSU

To everyone, please please do not remove the cover of a PSU, even when its not plugged in. You have no idea how long the capacitor discharge time is, and they can contain a lethal shock.

To sloopy, its RMA time again unfortunately as there is nothing user serviceable on the PSUs. PM BitmainWarranty to arrange an RMA. Be sure to link to your post describing the issues, what type and how many miners you wish to have repaired/replaced and your bitmaintech.com order number. I can't really speculate on an overlying cause, although it is a bit weird that a 50A breaker went. That really takes some wack to do.
2709  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S5: 1155GH(+OverClock Potential), In Stock $0.27/GH & 0.51W/GH on: January 18, 2015, 09:27:17 PM
I'm getting 69 and 65 temperature?

Is this okay to long time?

That's how hot my blades are (at least right now). Seems to be OK for several days with 1.3 Th and 0.02% HWE at 400 frequency...

You can find in BM1384's datasheet that maximum operation temperature for this chip is 125℃, so 60-70℃ should not be such a problem...

Anyway, the lower temperature - the better...  Smiley

Be careful as that's a TJ temp and you don't know where the temp sensor is on these chips. It could be in lots of places which tell us that they're 60C but in reality its 110C at TJ. Pay attention to manufacturers when they quote the max temps for their particular sensors.
Is there actually a sensor on the chips? If so, you might get some small hotspotting between different locations on the die, but it should be pretty close.
If they're getting the temp from that LM75 on the back of the board though, it could be wildly different from the die temps. It would have been better in that case if they'd put it on the other side of the board.

[Just to be clear, when I said "on these chips" I meant "where the sensor is located for the BM1382", rather than "the sensor, located on these chips,"]. I have no information as to where its located.
2710  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER U3 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 18, 2015, 09:23:58 PM
Been trying to run my U3's for a while now, with a powered USB hub as well. Bought an Icy Box IB-AC611.
Does not seem to be a good idea however.
1) i plug in only the U3 that works best: a lot of plug/unplugs to get it up and running with cgminer. Averages at 45. Zombies very very fast
2) i attach the same directly to the laptops usb 3 port. averages at above 60. not stable, but maybe zombies only two times a day
3) I plug both into the hub at the same time: Always gets an error saying the last unit attached on usb was not recognized by windows. hence never get the two units up via the hub (device descriptor fails)

Weird thing with nr 3 is that i then might get the one nearly working unit up and running when windows disables the other usb connection, and i then get a higher average than 1), more like above 60.

So thanks for the suggestions Dogie, didnt solve all my issues however. I like everything else with this unit, so please just make a version that actually works well too Wink

That's a USB 3.0 hub, are you plugging it into a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port on your computer?

Unfortunately there isn't a science to getting these to work, so if its not working without a powered hub, its time to try a powered hub and vice versa.
2711  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [Guide] Dogie's Comprehensive Bitmain Antminer S3 Setup [HD] on: January 18, 2015, 09:21:56 PM
If i move my S3 to a another city, is there any way i can control it from where i live (in another city)?

If the above is too complicated for you, you could also install teamviewer on a laptop on that network. That way you can always teamviewer in and control the units as if you were at home.
2712  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 5 kW solar energy what I should buy on: January 18, 2015, 09:20:52 PM
Wondering where your location is? If you were close by to me I would supply the miners and split the profit with you.

Living in Turkey, close to the Aegean sea

The UK is a bit far away from Turkey Tongue

Yoshi is speaking on a mining panel at TNABC 2015 @ Miami.  Sharing some good info and perspective with attendees.

Yoshi's personal preference is to heat a strawberry greenhouse in winter time Smiley or to warm up a swimming pool

That's..... that's a very good idea.

About fan guards and noise levels.

I have found that on all of the miners I have owed, they all run quieter without the fan guards. I don't recommend this if you have kids, pets, or are clumsy, but it's a much nicer setup imo.

Basically the fan guards block airflow, create wind resistance, and this creates added noise.

I'm a big fan of fan guards, I'd much rather my fans get blocked by stray pieces of plastic or paper than injesting them. Or injesting my fingers.
2715  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain problems on: January 18, 2015, 08:23:02 PM
Okay. PM me on Tuesday/Wednesday with order details if you've still not heard anything.
This is exactly the problem. I'm waiting for Paypal order details... For almost a couple weeks now.

¯\(°_o)/¯

*hugs Bitmain*

EDIT: Also, Yoshi is speaking in Miami, which I imagine might be understandably hampering things.

You'll usually get sorted out almost immediately if you PM me or BITMAIN [for sales based stuff] as its our jobs to deal with customers. Yoshi has many responsibilities so may take longer for sales emails. I can't really intervene with this case as he is already dealing with it, and it would duplicate the job, causing more problems.
2716  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Bitmain problems on: January 18, 2015, 08:21:10 PM
I find it pretty hard to believe that both units are bad...we bought 26 Antminer S3's and none of them had any power issues?  I would honestly also try powering it from a completely different power source-maybe your home has some power quality issues or something because this story sounds very strange.  Also I'm not sure why you would have kept buying new PSUs and blowing them up sequentially?!

Honestly I'd go test the one that didn't blow up your PSU hooked up to a different PSU that's on a completely different power line-like someone else's house or an office outlet or something because I honestly think there's something really wrong with the power in your home or something similar.  It's very rare for a modern PSU to actually physically blow up even if there's something horribly wrong with what it's connected to.

I agree this is hard to believe.
I did try taking it to a different local. And now I have a dead EVGA 1000w SuperNova G1 (80+gold) which has every safeguard imaginable. There are no power issues in the house we rent. These units are definitely defective. The question is, seeing as how there are no visual defect, what else could cause this?

This is likely what happened:
1) You put inappropriate power supplies on the units, repeatedly.
2) The power supplies died.
3) On of them may have electrically damaged the S3 on its way out.
4) You put an appropriate power supply on the unit, but after it had already been traumatised by 3 other exploding power supplies, it subsequently killed the 1000w.

None of those are primary issues with the S3s, so its up to BM what they decide to do for you.
2717  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER C1 Discussion and Support Thread on: January 18, 2015, 08:17:31 PM
Right now my bubble problem seemed to resolve itself. After shaking the radiator and turning it around and back and forth it looked like the last of the air is out of the system. I let the system run for 24 hours and the bubbles subsided.

Yeah that sounds about right. Sometimes you really have to rubik's cube the hell out of radiators/blocks to get the air to go through the entire path.

Temps are 37-38, but hashing went down for some reason to around 900, and I have 5 X's. Miner is already at 755v. Is there another trick to get hashing speed back up to 1000+? What happens if I change the freq to 256 and put the volts back to 725?

1) Try a hard reset (power supply)
2) Voltage to 725 and a hard reset
3) If that board STILL is dropping out, PM BitmainWarranty to arrange an RMA. Be sure to link to your post describing the issues, what type and how many miners you wish to have repaired/replaced and your bitmaintech.com order number. You'll only have to send back that individual hashing board, although make sure you've got some thermal paste to reapply the new PCB.

Also, I still think the pump was partially damaged during shipping. It does make a light grinding noise when it runs. It shouldn't be making that noise, as my other two are silent. Can I purchase one of these pumps from the Colorado service center? I know this replacement has a 90 warranty, but my guess that grinding noise is going to get worse and just fail, since it is the same exact noise my other failed pump. I guess time will tell.

I posted another picture of the same bubble pump, but around 30 hours later.

That could also be a nice bubble in the impeller, which will tend to stay there. Tilt it about and see if you can get it out (outlet facing up if possible). I'm unsure if you can purchase additional pumps from the US but they do have replacements there if you need them.
2718  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Cointerra is dead on: January 18, 2015, 01:42:34 AM
If there was any real work behind the 16nm chip they can sell the design to someone.  That's a big if though.
They would have had to at least pretend like they were moving ahead with the latest designs to appear relevant at all.

Its an unproven design at this stage though, so most companies would rather use their own work / info / preference in design when they're risking $1-5M. Even if it looks better.

Do you have a lot of insight into the design or where they were with it, or is it just speculation on your part?

Speculation based on the timelines published. It would have still been a simulation at this point.
2719  Economy / Auctions / Pools in Dogie's Comprehensive Guides [Feb'15] on: January 18, 2015, 12:02:35 AM
What is being auctioned? Why?
Its recently been brought to my attention that the 'pool information' section within my setup guides may have been unfair as only a small number of pools were arbitrarily chosen and displayed. In order to fix this, I will be holding monthly public auction between the major pools in order to decide which pools are displayed and in what order.

Ad Format

  • There are 3 pool slots for sale.
  • Final bidding order matters - the top bid will receive the first slot, the middle bid the second slot and the lowest bid the third slot.
  • The ads are to last from the 1st February to the 28th February, during which impressions are projected to be 500,000 per slot.
  • This traffic is as targeted as can be - to those who have just bought miners and are looking to set them up and direct them towards a pool.
  • Pool slots feature a direct registration link and quick startup information.

Auction Format

  • Auction will run for approximately 15 days, to end at midnight London time / 3PM PDT / 6PM EDT on Saturday 31st January.
  • Post your bid in this thread stated in BTC. If two people bid at the same price, the person who bid first will have his slot filled first.
  • Bidding starts at BTC 1.0. All bids must be evenly divisible by BTC 0.2.
  • Only pre-approved pools on the below list are accepted, if your pool is not on the list please contact me.
  • You must pay for your slots within 48 hours of receiving the payment address. Otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else. I will send you the payment information via forum PM from this account ("dogie", user ID 87869). You might receive false payment information from scammers pretending to be me. They might even have somewhat similar usernames. Be careful.

I reserve the right to reject bids, even days after the bid is made. You must pay for your slots within 24 hours of receiving the payment address otherwise your slots may be sold to someone else. I will send you the payment information via forum PM from this account ("dogie", user ID 87869). You might receive false payment information from scammers pretending to be me. They might even have somewhat similar usernames. Be careful.

Taxes
There is only tax due to UK bidders, and there is no additional cost to anyone (apart from me). Just clarifying to making sure its a level playing field while also collecting any legally required taxes.

US and rest of world   - bid as normal, no VAT.
Non VAT registered UK          - bid as normal, I will pay 20% VAT and take the hit.
Non VAT registered EU          - bid as normal, I will pay your VAT and take the hit.
VAT registered UK businesses - will be invoiced an additional 20% VAT on bid prices.
VAT registered EU businesses - bid as normal, please let me know your VAT registration number.
