3161  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: What are medium and large mining operations backup plans? on: August 02, 2018, 06:12:29 PM
No matter what the business end of things are, if it fails you still have the building and land. I assume these would be owned if you had a large enough mine, otherwise you would be at the mercy of the property owner and that seems crazy.

So if all your mining gear becomes obsolete, you still have the infrastructure that you built or bought as well as the land. Those items will always carry a value.

If mining becomes illegal, you can at least sell the hardware to recoup some costs... if it's a decent time for hardware sales.

Considering it's all hypothetical, you could turn your facility into secure storage. I remember someone converted an old airport hanger that shut down in a town where I lived. I got a tour once and everyone stored their classic cars, or RV's there.

Also just to ad, seeing as you are now considering this investment... Don't invest more than you can afford to lose, as there may be tough times.

Hmmm.

Now I have to find somewhere to Install another 30 amp circuit.

Can't wait to see if this offers the same flexibility in voltage settings. They've been a lifesaver running the 841 during the hot summer.

Maybe they'll bundle 3 together and sell them like the "moose", call it the "deer". A nice home miner setup.

I don't know why it's taken me this long but I have finally joined the discord channel. Let's find a block so I can test out the notifications. Tongue

Thanks for helping clear that up.

It gives me the option but once selected says I do not have permission.

Sorry, but you cannot remove these posts, even though they are replies to your topic.

Weird I guess I just never really noticed the delete option there in the past.

Edit: I can't post the screenshot yet, but it appears to be a non issue now.
3166  Other / Meta / Possible bug in stickied topics [answered] on: August 02, 2018, 01:45:32 PM
One of my topics was stickied and I try to keep an eye on it to maintain thread quality.

There is currently a post there, that is extremely poorly worded. So in trying to determine if it is a spammy bot, or just poorly worded I checked the post history, and noticed I'm able to delete the post from their post history.

Or at least am given the option, I haven't done so yet. I also haven't reported the post yet, because of this unique situation.

Anyone have any insight into this.

Here is the post

I'm not sure why everyone is so surprised by this. I guess because when I started mining RVN diff was 27K everything below has been a gift.

If it really bothers you just buy coins in the interim, or be happy pulling in whatever and continue to hold.

Don't get me wrong I'm hoping they make adjustments similar to what was done for Bcash when it was going through the same issue.
3168  Economy / Securities / Re: LoyceV's Legendary 10 Month 10 Person 10 Altcoin Investment Experiment: ROUND 2 on: August 02, 2018, 12:36:53 PM
@ Timelord,

I think the confusion came from me jumping the gun. This round hasn't started yet. I was just seeing if Loyce was accepting the entry funds yet for this round.

Loyce is referring to the first round they started in 2017.

It looks like you are in I'm pretty sure only HCP missed the cut this time around.

So unfortunately with a new government rolling into power the UBI pilot project in Ontario is dead.

This article wasn't all doom and gloom because I didn't realise how many countries were experimenting with this.
3170  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Antminer S7 Support on: August 02, 2018, 12:10:35 AM
It's hard to say without a little more information.

What type of psu do you have?

Can you describe the circuit you are operating on? 110 or 220 volt?

Can you post some pictures?

You really should have held off on opening up the PSU. With most mining equipment it's best to take your time troubleshooting all options before opening things up.

Here's some guidelines/tips for what to include in a sales thread.

3172  Other / Meta / Re: Is Selling Bitcoin forum account even acceptable ? on: August 01, 2018, 09:42:06 PM
I dont see anything wrong in this. People actually work hard to rank up their accounts on the forum. If they cannot stay active on forum anymore, their account is getting inactive and they cannot contribute to forum anymore, why not earn some bucks out of it by selling the account?

I do see something wrong with this, as do many of the people on this forum. Aside form what has already been mentioned, these accounts can be used in an attempt to scam/cheat unsuspecting individuals. These accounts are tied to the people who built them, and as such those credentials, trust, being a big one should not be handed over to someone who did not earn it.

Quote
But, there should be a system where it can be checked whether the new owner of the account is worthy of such rank and whether he/she can contribute to the forum accordingly.

Seeing as the current system of DT members tagging these accounts is being circumvented, why would any system that makes the practice taboo or adds restrictions succeed in it's place.

Quote
Buying and selling of bitcointalk accounts cannot be stopped as there is no track on who sold it or who bought it.

It can't be stopped. What can be done is the incentive of big earnings and payouts can be taken away by tagging the accounts and the sellers

Quote
Same was with clash of clans game, if you know about it. It wasn't acceptable but anyways people used to buy/sell and trade their account.

Not the same in any realm
3173  Other / Meta / Re: How recognized are you in the bitcointalk world? on: August 01, 2018, 07:57:27 PM
I am faceless. No one can recognize me like a fly on the wall.

Interesting to see the first non legendary at 132. Again with activity being a factor it's no surprise. I didn't recognize most of the names but the ones that stood out were escrows, campaign managers, and very active sellers.

Pretty neat metric to look at. First time I checked out your site. Nice to get a different style topic rolling in meta

Damn.

Looks like we are going to catch RVN on a price jump. It's been sitting so nice and low for a few weeks. Still lots of room for growth though.

Do you have an address for receiving the .01 BTC. I'm okay with sending it whenever, just so you have it available when you are ready.
3175  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Trying to Start Mining in College on: August 01, 2018, 04:47:48 PM
I will point out one thing that has nothing to do with the unit or the power.

Consider that it would only take 1 complaint from your roomate, and you will have to shut down the equipment.

I remember reading a post last year sometime in October and a student was forced to sell off their gear because of a complaint. You may want to consider waiting until you get the lay of the land; maybe you can talk your roomate into joining you on the venture.

I agree with the others an undervolted 841 is a better option.

Your power isn't free and you are scamming money from your college, you should really consider your actions here.

Unless he violates the rules there is no issue. He also wouldn't be "scamming" the university, just breaking rules regarding appliances.
3176  Other / Meta / Re: The merit system is not fair! on: August 01, 2018, 02:18:28 PM
You know what gets next to 0 merit these days? Complaining about Merit.

Things Merit does not prevent.

Learning, Discussing, Contributing. If this is what you want to do then there is no problem.

Merit is a gateway to ranking up in the forum, so if all you want to do is rank up for SIG campaigns, you should be glad you can wear one at all.

I can say the system is working as intended. I'm happy with what I have received and feel I took the time to contribute in a meaningful way.

3177  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: [Video] Tear down/ Component replacement Avalon Miner 841 on: August 01, 2018, 03:36:18 AM
I meant it in fun, I should have probably added that the overall content of the video is quite good, thank you for making it!

No offence taken, glad you liked it.

If looking for studio-quality editing I highly recommend Sony Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum. You can often find the not-latest versions for around $100. Phenomenal program that does all you could ever want.

Thanks. I think I'm going to try and keep it fairly straightforward. I know I barely tapped the features available for this video, I might play around with it in my downtime just to see if I can enhance the troubleshooting visually.
3178  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ravencoin [RVN] PoW GPU Mining | Asset Transfer Blockchain (Updated ANN) on: July 31, 2018, 04:49:56 PM
Strange situation. When heshrate network from 1.2-1.3 TH/s, I was getting 80-100 coins a day. Now (less than 1 Th/s) I get 40-42. Is there a problem? Poole steals? (ice mining)?

No ice mining is a good pool. Use them myself.

The problem is that the network difficulty is still high u til it retsrgets after 2016 blocks. This takes longer to go down because of the NH that swings over when diff is low, but leaves when it gets high.

Guess who's making happy face smiles...

This guy and his kiddos, even had something that made the wifes day.

Great package; it was exactly what I expected. Reminded me of a shop I used to go to with my dad, and that I was able to take my kiddos to.

Thanks Tecshare and Minerjones for the smooth transactions

The utility behind this coin is very good its a great idea, but this is a POS coin or POW coin?

Yes the utility...

Don't worry the coin is definitely a POS; because POW would make no sense at all.
