Well you got me, can't pass up a good mystery.  Huh

PM sent looking forward to putting a smile on my face.  Grin
3262  Other / Meta / Re: Limit to new accounts every month on: July 13, 2018, 05:52:45 PM
The problem with this idea is that the moment the timer rolls over you will have a bunch of bots fighting to take up the quota for the month.

Picture the doors opening on Black Friday, or if you tried ordering Asics last year and they were sold out within minutes

I know for myself I probably never would have registered here if I hadn't been able to the first time around, because I came here looking for answers
3263  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Why are some people still skeptical about climate change? on: July 13, 2018, 04:45:29 PM
For the same reasons that people believe the Earth is flat or that vaccines don't work - they don't understand science, and think that somehow opinions are as equally valid as facts.

In addition to this, there are "scientists" out there denouncing facts. These people are handed massive amounts of cash by Dark, Slick companies to bend the facts to suit their narrative.

Unfortunately we live in a society where you can cut yourself of from any opinion or facts you don't like, and just sit there in your own bubble of misinformation.
3264  Other / Meta / Re: can we make one more section of merit giving thread on: July 13, 2018, 02:39:47 PM
I don't see the forum creating a special board solely for the purpose of Merit Giveaway Post Review threads. Users are fine to create a thread and maintain/advertise it as they see fit. There have been a few that are successful, or where but they seem to be dying out.

It would be nice to have a board where every topic that centers around Merit could be shuffled to

So it is very easy for all of us.

The idea of the system is not to make it "easy" for all of us. You need to be able to create decent content, and then if someone likes what you are putting out there you might see some Merit. This way we can raise the quality of information here.

Edit: I reviewed some of your posts, and I'm glad to see it's not filled with airdrop bounties, but does seem to be heavily focused on Merit. Try taking a step back and just focus on post quality and I'm sure you'll get some more down the road.

Also this is sort of what you are looking for, some of these are inactive.

Could you post some more information. Here is a guideline to help
3266  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Modify Ban form letter on: July 12, 2018, 04:12:45 AM

whoever gets perma banned, by rules, is not allowed to create another new account
but by knowing the exact banning reason, that user will learn, adapt and create new account

What I was going for overall was to give the banned member all of the information as to why they have been disciplined.
For a permanent ban what you are saying makes zero difference,IMO. As KWH pointed out:

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=703657.0

25. If you get banned (temporary or permanently) and create a new account to continue posting / sending PMs, it's considered ban evasion. The only exception is creating a thread in Meta about your ban.

Being a forum rule it is up to the forum, and community members to quash ban evading.
3267  Other / Meta / Re: account jenia1 hacked. I have locked it within 10 minutes. whats next? on: July 12, 2018, 03:05:25 AM
Just from what I've seen around the meta section the last few months.

You'll see a lot of users who've signed the message and done all that is asked have waited that long, if not longer.

I know you sell gear through the hardware section, so in the meantime you might want to start switching over to using this as your main account for the time being
3268  Other / Meta / Re: Request to perma ban this account: bgpsq on: July 11, 2018, 12:12:59 PM
Good job getting the account back

Just following that profile leads to more and more accounts passing them along. to Jeremiesaranza, todumbtool45

As you can see those posts received a completely deserved amount of Merit  Undecided
3269  Other / Meta / Re: account jenia1 hacked. I have locked it within 10 minutes. whats next? on: July 11, 2018, 11:57:06 AM

why on earth would you leave a negative feedback for a locked account?? it seems you are only trying to up your post count with this reply of yours. please remove that feedback.

Sorry my mistake in leaving the Neg, didn't think about the locked part...

In regards to post count, I don't need to worry about upping it. I actually felt bad; for a minute.

Good luck

Edit: Not that it would have mattered as I said I would remove it once you had control of it again.
3270  Economy / Reputation / Re: aTriz account has most likely changed hands on: July 11, 2018, 11:43:36 AM
This seems like a recipe for disaster, especially with you granting access to your profile to someone else.

Bump.. I am re opening my management service thread.

open for new projects.

Or has the account actually changed hands and we get to see if anyone is dumb enough to bite, despite the trust rating.
3271  Other / Meta / Re: Why the trust is not shown in all sections. on: July 11, 2018, 11:39:22 AM
So I found myself wondering the same thing  while I was strolling through the Beginner and Help board. It feels to me that not showing trust here could be like leading a lamb to slaughter.

This board is ideally supposed to draw in the Newbies, and we already know that not everything gets reported/moderated. To me this just provides an opportunity for untrusted members to abuse the system with carte blanche.

I can see how some people in general may see red trust and ignore what a person has to say, but that's their loss. If I see Red, I always look at why/how and go from there.  Sometimes it leads to an interesting story or history within the community. Usually it means I will listen to their idea but wouldn't enter a trade using someone else's 10 foot pole.
3272  Other / Meta / Re: Calling all you data crunching analysts on: July 11, 2018, 09:34:52 AM
I understand what you are saying, my thoughts on the matter is it could possibly create a short list to monitor for an email/password change and then further for changes in posting habits.

It was a long shot regardless. Just seems like an account you wouldn't want switching hands.

Now that I think about it, this could also just be another scammer trying to lure someone in with a sweet account.

Edit: Loyce beat me to my epiphany  Wink
3273  Other / Meta / Re: Calling all you data crunching analysts on: July 11, 2018, 09:14:58 AM
Yeah I was just checking them out and didn't think any were a match. Might not be to easy to narrow things down
3274  Other / Meta / Calling all you data crunching analysts on: July 11, 2018, 08:00:15 AM
*Said with respect* Wink

So I came across this account sale thread.

Given the provided information,, especially the amount of Merit, what are the odds you guys could narrow down the potential list of accounts.

I am making an assumption that this individual has only received 17 merits. I believe this to be true because, and correct me if I'm wrong, the other option is 267. I think that Hero close to Legendary started with 750?? Can't remember where I saw that. Regardless these larger numbers of Merits received should make it simpler to identify the account.

Not sure what could be done regardless of how well the list gets narrowed down but it could generate a shortlist of accounts to watch to prevent a green trust legendary account from changing hands.
3275  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Surge Protection for Antminer in Canada on: July 11, 2018, 06:28:27 AM
You can get a whole home surge protector that installs off the main panel. They do take up 2 breaker spots just like any other 220V circuit.

They run about 150$ and are pretty good for piece of mind.
3276  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Modify Ban form letter on: July 11, 2018, 05:26:14 AM

Does the plagiarism ban take effect with the first offense or must the offender show a history of pawning off content as there own before they're kicked out? There's so little information available on where the line is of tolerance, but I think that's a good thing otherwise every wise guy here would be operating just beneath that line of tolerance.

Plagiarism is a 1 and done offense. It is a permaban of the person not just the account.
3277  Other / Meta / Re: account jenia1 hacked. I have locked it within 10 minutes. whats next? on: July 11, 2018, 04:46:43 AM
That's a damn shame, you did a good job of asking all the right questions in the hardware sections. Unfortunately it takes a crazy long time right now to recover accounts, I want to say some are upwards of 6 months I'm not even sure the last one that was recovered.

I also left a negative feedback on the account until it is back in your possession. It's untrusted but hopefully some DT members will do the same until you get the account back

Best of luck
3278  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion] Modify Ban form letter on: July 11, 2018, 04:25:01 AM
Yeah I see what you mean when they have a short term ban.

I guess I was thinking more inline with a Plagiarism ban, which we have been seeing a lot of lately.
3279  Other / Meta / [Suggestion] Modify Ban form letter on: July 11, 2018, 04:03:29 AM
After the slew of topics created along the lines of "Why I ban" , "I didn't break no rules", "Only try to contribute to forum"

I'm guessing it's a general form letter that gets sent out once a Ban is initiated, so could we just ad a few things.

1) The word Permanent when it is.

2) The offence with a reference link or the quote. As well as a link to the broken rule

This will at least make it easier to squash these topics once started, or to investigate in the case of the user who was framed.
3280  Other / Ivory Tower / Re: Bitmain controls close to 51% of mining hash on: July 11, 2018, 03:38:08 AM

The electricity is free, and the network connectivity is already in place, so all you are talking about is the capital investment for the mining hardware. If that is cheap enough, then it shouldn't be too hard to turn a reasonable roi from a fleet of vehicles.

In regards to the electricity, I assume your talking using the vehicles alternator and drawing of the battery maybe even a spare dedicated solely to the chipset? Then I agree if you can do this and run the vehicles long enough each day that it doesn't drain the battery while they are off, your electricity is essentially free.

The bigger hurdle you brought up is the network connectivity. Not using a wired network connection causes it's own issues with latency and submitting shares. This could be the difference between your fleet submitting and finding a block or getting beat to it. With this though I guess some shares are better than no shares especially if you don't have a noticeable electricity cost.

It would almost be better to mine off the spare battery solely on downtime with the fleet and joining with a pool.
