3301  Other / Meta / [Suggestion] Mark posts/threads as reported on: July 05, 2018, 06:51:02 PM
Recently I've found myself reporting off-topic, low quality shit posts in an Ann thread I follow. Then I found myself wondering If I had already "Reported to Mods" a couple posts.

This got me thinking, once a post or thread has been reported can we either take away the button, or mark it as "Reported for follow up". I know there are times where a thread may be reported multiple times to be moved, and I'm sure some posts as well. Not knowing myself how these appear to Mods, this may prevent multiple reports and streamline the process.
3302  Other / Meta / Re: What happens to Merit given when the Giver's account got permanenty Banned? on: July 05, 2018, 06:32:26 PM
I can't remember where I read this but about a week ago it was reported a banned user could hand out their merits.

Pretty sure within a day that was fixed, and that privilege was removed, as it would have promoted merit sales.

If I find the post I'll update here.
3303  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 821 & 841 on: July 05, 2018, 05:53:23 PM
Just a thought, I can't remember when/where, but someone was once talking about running into problems when they ran the 20 miners off 1 controller.

Not sure if that is playing a part with your setup, but it may be worth grabbing an extra controller and running 15 per.

When you mentioned temps, what are you doing to remove the warm exhaust? Is there a chance the warm air is short-circuiting around to the intake of the miners? Just putting ideas out there.

Also not sure if I missed it before, but do all the miners in each block go down at the same time?
3304  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Avalon 821 & 841 on: July 05, 2018, 03:59:05 PM
That is weird. Can you give a little more info?

Like what each of your blocks consist of.

The circuits they are running on.

Is it always 15 hours to failure, or is does it always happen at 5am?

What are you using to power the controllers?
3305  Other / Meta / Re: [Suggestion]Solving the spam problem with a "Report Score" for bad rapports. on: July 05, 2018, 03:14:49 PM

For the every rule you can have a different weight like for plagiarism you get directly 3 points, and autoban for 7 days.
I'm sure this was just as an example, but I would hope plagiarism is still a 1 way trip to Permaban town.

I'm wondering what reports would you want to see on the list. For instance Off-topic, these can be spam and completely off base, or they can be a mini conversation within a thread for a few posts. I'm fine with the latter as it gives a conversational community feel. There's also "Low-quality" reports, and these again can be subjective. These are the types of "grey" area posts I could see creating a greater workload for the Mods.

Quote
Snipped
  • Your reports will matter and your time reporting is not wasted
  • No way to cheat the system as it is controlled by the mods
  • More people will start reporting
  • Less spam and better content, more people will be aware of the rules and follow them

Overall I like the idea, and I like the optimism.

Unless people can carry their own reporting score as a badge, I don't see anyone who doesn't already feel like their reports are doing something, gaining that sense. This kind of ties into the "more people will start reporting", I feel like if they aren't already doing so this won't change many peoples minds. The fact that there are penalties that weren't previously there may bring in a few more reporters, which would be a benefit.

In instances like the "grey" areas I mentioned above, vindictive people could use this system to try and target a user and create an abundance of reports against them. Typing that I also realized we may need to limit the ability to make reporting if abused,  as this new system may generate reporting spam to gum up the system. Again vindictive people will do almost anything.

I don't think the system would necessarily reduce the spam, the punishments would though. The loss of a Sig, would stop most  accounts from posting that are just here for the Sig money, but they will also probably just create a new account as it's not Ban evading, unless tied into that somehow.

I would like to think that this would open peoples eyes to following the rules, but look at how many plagiarism threads we see about account bans. Still daily there are reports of plagiarism flowing in. I think more likely this will be the next flood of threads taking over Meta: Where my Sig? What is spam ban? NAzi Mod removed my Sig, because jealous etc.

Why this topic is not sticked? Mods  Huh

OT, Thanks.

The thread is not that old, maybe it will be. Feel free to comment on the thread or post suggestions if you think I missed anything.
3307  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos you don't help us, so now close the french board on: July 04, 2018, 09:59:52 PM
The French board becomes abandoned since a while because there is no moderation in. Most users left because of this and the ones still here are all asking something done. Most users now are bots or the guys posting ANN topics with google translate, and they use their alt accounts to reply to themselves.

I remember you asking about getting a moderator a while ago. My french is to rusty to go through and try and translate the shit posts on the board, but have you considered doing so?

My suggestion is to go and gather say 10 posts that are absolute trash, most likely translated posts. Create a thread that translates those posts as close as possible to English to show a clear example.

I'm surprised that it's such a spam fest in there considering local board posts usually do not count for Sig Campaigns.

Bonne chance.

3309  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What would happen if Satoshi came back suddenly on: July 04, 2018, 07:43:20 PM
I guess we would see a bunch of BTC bloggers and vloggers heads explode.

Then there would be the battle of FUD and MOON discussions. The worse part about it is, no matter what Satoshi says in this hypothetical the NEWS machines would trun out there own narrative, because News has become more of an opinion piece than anything. I imagine it would go something like " Satoshi says he just wanted to check back in with the community and engage in the debate, but we here at chanel 496 belive BTC is dying and he is trying to dump his coins to save his fortune... Take it away Bob"

Takes of Negative hat.

As for the forum I think if that day came, he would be interested in some technical discussions and talking to some of the members here who delve into the behind the scenes stuff. Maybe even have a chat about some of the old days with any of the members who can remember back then.
3310  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is Bitcoin Dead? on: July 04, 2018, 07:30:23 PM
Yes definitely dead. No moon.

Service being held next Tuesday, refreshments served. In lieu of flowers please donate any remaining BTC to the forum.

On a more serious note BTC is still up from 1 year ago. So considering that growth it would be hard to call it dead. You also forget that for BTC to die the community would have to as well. This isn't going to happen; while mass adoption is what will be needed in the future, BTC can survive in a niche form until such a day.

Just look around how many people are using it in exchange for goods and services. People just have to stop looking at it in a sense of buy BTC today, rich with Lambos tomorrow.
3311  Economy / Service Announcements / Re: 10% OFF entire shop for bitcointalk members on: July 04, 2018, 07:02:07 PM
The best bet would be to place this in services, you could even create a service announcement topic about your store.
3312  Other / Meta / Re: Merits "a penny for your thoughts" on: July 04, 2018, 04:32:14 PM
Merits are like the stars. Seems unreachable. Even how many times i tried, seem so impossible to have them. Roll Eyes

What is Merit?

➡ Merit score needs in order to reach higher member ranks.

How can you get Merit?

➡ Create a quality content/post.
You will get merit points when someone sends you some for one of your posts.

Thanks for starting with pointless facts. This only contributed to making your post look like it's not worth reading.

Quote
Here's the problem, im not a good writer.
Constructing a good and quality content/post is so hard for me, and maybe not only me, a lot of our brothers here are struggling to have a merit because of the same problem. Even though you tried sometimes to create one. Still not enough to be merited by others.

i had been on crypto for awhile now and i can say that i learn a lot about crypto on this forum. Is there no other way to earn this merit?
There are hunters out there that is very active on this forum, helping startups/ico in marketing on social media, not spamming on every thread, contributing by comment/suggestion on other members. Dont they deserved to rankup and earn more like others do? Lucky those who ranked before the merit system occured.

Then post in your local board and seek Merit where the quality of your posts will earn Merit. If you have truly learned anything about crypto you will be able to have conversations with people, should you make a good point or provide insight maybe you'll get some Merit.

And No These "marketers", "contibuters", and "helpers" of ICO's that you speak of are the problem. Let's not sugarcoat their title, bounty hunter spammers. They do not contibute to this forum in a positive way, they are here to earn money. They can do it elsewhere.

Quote
They say that merits are for those who create a quality content for the forum, how about those who dont have a talent to make one but a good and a quality member of this forum.

They don't deserve anything.
Quote
This forum should not only focus the ranking of a member base on the content that they can contribute, but also on how they behave and how active they are as a hunter and as a member of this forum.
"Just my 2 cents"

Oh my you mean that in the future ranks, and merit numbers will mean something. Maybe even help to recognize a helpful maybe even knowledgeable member? Why would we ever want that.

We are judging people on their ability to put together a coherent post, that is on topic, and not a rehash of everything previously said. If this bar is to high, then maybe they should belive they are stupid... oh wait they won't because they are not here trying to learn or prove themselves.
3313  Other / Meta / Re: PLEASE REOPEN MY BITCOINTALK ,I CAN PAY BTC FOR REOPENING MY ACCOUNT BITCOINTALK on: July 04, 2018, 04:17:02 PM

So later if I want to copy the article from another website, I just need to write the source ?

Yes whatever forum you go to to post that is what you need to do. Anytime you are using source materials you should be quoting the source, especially when you are copying word for word.

You the person are banned from posting on this Forum outside of Meta. This means you can not create another account and pick up shit posting your plagiarism here under a new account.

3314  Other / Meta / Re: Mod, please check new plagiarism: Reporting copy/pasting, please permban on: July 04, 2018, 04:11:56 PM
Already reported posting here to be sure.

Beginning June 25 but still with what Corallo describes as “vulnerabilities,” the pool uses BetterHash, a protocol which seeks to offer mining pool users the option to use their own block templates rather than those prescribed by pool owners.

The setup differs from major Bitcoin mining pools such as Bitmain and Antpool, which use Stratum, the most widely-used protocol among miners.

“Over Stratum you get the block templates, you get information about how to build the coinbase and also information representing all of the transactions in the block. This means that end user miners have largely no control over what they’re mining on,” Corallo explained during an interview with Jimmy Song last month.

Quoting for reference.

Plagiarism from this article: https://bitcoinist.com/core-dev-alternative-bitcoin-mining/

I'm glad I finally get to report one of these shitty, complete copy paste posts. I only get to because you forgot to actually reference the article, maybe you thought you did because you copied a quote from within the article, but you forgot about every other word. Enjoy your BAN.
3315  Other / Meta / Re: Will the merit system be removed by BTT in future? on: July 04, 2018, 03:38:21 PM
As we all know since the merit system It has been very controversial fact on this forum. According to my experience, it is not easy to get merits on BTT. I have got 9 merits so far but I am dying to get one more merit to be a member. meanwhile, there are plenty of people who have not got even single merit.

It only seems controversial from the bottom. Yes the rules regarding ranking up changed, but that was just the system catching up with the times. Just accept the system and work within it.

Your question is valid, the system will only go away if it turns out to be a massive failure, which so far it does not. Some supporting evidence is this:

In recognition of this grave injustice, and hoping to correct it, I decided to go through your post history and merit the first post I found that showed the slightest evidence of original or useful thought. Unfortunately, I gave up after 15 pages, which consist almost entirely of bounty spam, with the balance comprised of quotes of blog posts and articles. That's 300 posts of nothing but spam! How much more is there? Well, I don't have time to go through it all, so I guess it's up to someone else to give you your one lousy merit point.

You had every chance here to get yourself that oh so important merit point, and failed. This tells me you are making it hard not the system, and those who don't even have one will get it when they deserve it.

Quote
I admit it is important to maintain the quality of this forum But I am not sure Merit system is the answer for it. Will BTT introduce any other system in future instead of the merit system?

Well until someone comes up with a better system this one is working quite well. I thin there is room for improvement or adjustments in regards to amount of Merit needed, but overall I thin kit's a success.

Just to drop a little honesty on you, it won't matter what the system introduced is, you won't be happy. If you can't write a quality post the system will keep your rank where it is until such a time that you deserve to rank up.
3316  Other / Meta / Re: Wall of fame / shame. Shit posts so bad that they are actually funny on: July 04, 2018, 03:14:52 PM
We all know about those shit posts and see them by our own eyes like daily. Was it necessary to start a whole new tread about it? But it's actually good to laugh at some comments you guys posted here Cheesy

The initial purpose of the thread was to post the funniest. Everyone is annoyed by the shitposts but every once in a while there is one that makes you laugh.
To be honest, forum would be a little boring place without all the shit-posts and drama. As much as I love the technical stuff on the forum, I occasionally sneak into threads for a some quick giggles.Off-topic section being my favourite.

It is nice to laugh at the level of greatness in these posts. This has become my new "funny pages".  Grin

Helps break up the frustration in between reporting the average shitty post, when you find that one that's so bad you can't help but laugh.

3318  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Did Mt. Gox screw you over... Maybe not so much anymore on: July 04, 2018, 02:18:10 PM

That's true, but any victim you ask at this point will likely say they planned to hold and that Mt. Gox screwed them, despite some potentially earning more because of the event lol.

But yeah, at the end of the day, they would still have to go through the hassle of a claiming process and were effectively robbed of their ability to make decisions for their funds. It's really great that something is being done, but I'd still be pretty pissed if I were in their situation and I wouldn't be satisfied with anything less than a 1:1 return. I wouldn't be surprised if a few of them still push for that somehow.

Yeah it's easy to say they wouldn't have cashed in, but it's hard to not sell at all the ATH's that were set. I think most people had just given up so it's a nice twist on a sad chapter.

I can assure you people already hated gox before all the dumping.
Think about all the things karpeles has done and all the people he f*cked over.

Until reading this I wasn't even aware of the coin dumping. It came at a bad time while the FOMO was wearing off but I think it was negligible in the grand scheme of the correction.

The more I read on the original MT. Gox issues the crazier it gets, kind of glad I wasn't around then, as I probably would have lost something.
3319  Other / Meta / Re: Posting guidelines for Computer Hardware section on: July 03, 2018, 03:46:13 PM
It doesn't have to be from a specific blockchain explorer.

Understood, just making sure I knew what you meant. I'll update OP later to include that as another method of verification.

Quote
The rationale behind this is that there is no way to predict the hash of a particular block until that block itself has been mined.

I was thinking on that and it makes sense. If someone was playing the long con game for whatever reason; they could take a bunch of photos of gear they owned at one point with different date stamps. Using those they could try and fake possession in the future.

Quote
My preferred method of proving ownership of the goods is to conduct a video call using Signal.

I'm unfamiliar with Signal, but it sounds like it's worked for you. I think that leaving some information in the sale thread is good. I like the idea of people announcing they have reached an arrangement for the sale, and adding in the end how the deal went. I'm not interested in people sharing all details of a sale, negotiating and transaction ID's aren't necessary unless there is a dispute.

Thanks again for the input, I'm glad your information about Signal and verification is near the top of the thread, I'm sure others will find it helpful as well.
3320  Other / Meta / Re: Why isn't carrying signatures banned for low member levels? on: July 02, 2018, 12:41:01 PM
There are restrictions on what you can place in your SIG space based on your rank. Most campaigns do not accept Newbie, and only a few accept JR. Member; so atleast now it does take a while for new users to achieve a rank to join a campaign.

Not that it's a bad idea, but the Forum leans more towards less regulation and allows the community to sort it out.

There are so many users who post content that have nothing to do with the topic.

The best thing to do is use the report to moderator button to get the post deleted. Most of these garbage posters do the bare minimum and even one post getting deleted can wipe out their pay, hopefully to the point they leave, or turn around their membership habits.(Not holding my breathe on the latter)

Here is a guide to reporting that is useful.
