781  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech - Best W/GH/s ratio, Best $/GH/s ratio on: June 24, 2014, 03:23:15 AM
No meaningful posts have been deleted but it has been split into new topics. Spondoolies have been very generous in never deleting any posts but the discussion is way off topic for hardware discussion. Much has been moved to mining speculation. Self moderated thread opening posters only have the ability to delete posts, not move them.

Alas there is limited scope for a decent topic split so the following exists:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=663094.0

and another but I have to leave only one open
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=663087.0

so if you feel obliged to continue the discussion, use the former thread which has the less abusive posts. Some got lost as collateral damage due to the limited nature of the thread splitting feature for this forum, and for that I apologise.

When there are 10 different topics in 10 different areas makes it difficult to find information and follow along.

If an SP30 can bring home 9 bitcoin before it starts losing money then you will ROI. Maybe a year? If not or you will never catch up, then it will never ROI and you'll have a nice BTC machine.

like the tradeblock calculator uses, is NOT realistic There is not a chance in hell the difficulty will be anywhere near 135G come 2015.

Reserved.

Was my post deleted?  Huh

Yeah, mine too. I'm guessing RoadStress has op in this thread, or Raskul, or both.

Same here. Posts deleted. I guess some information is too important to be let out still. BUT, you have an option to visit the mirror site that doesn't allow deletion of posts.

How many BTC do you folks predict the August and September SP30 machines will mine before they operates at a loss ?

August: 19 BTC
September: 16 BTC

Here is the calculation. Of course, it is just speculation, but at least it is based on regression instead of a static difficulty increase forecast: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1P_rgP9XnBvuznWdRi7IUKizQHUR0DNxDrl08H90juzc/edit#gid=0

I will kiss your ass if you are in my area ..in a tutu ..in public if I can get 16 BTC out of a spondoolies sp30 sept order! (you sir are the 'hope fairy')

using the genesis block calculator at 39% difficulty increase I get like 12 BTC  and that is if equip is free and miner is free
(in a very hopeful manner...really pushing it to get 12BTC) as I think a 39% difficulty increase is very low next few months sure can't see 16 BTC!

https://tradeblock.com/mining/

hope I'm wrong....boy I really hope I'm wrong and you are correct!

Searing

An SP30 cost 9 bitcoin. You buy your SP30, how long will it take to get that 9 bitcoin back? Maybe. Sorry, I had to put my pessimistic hat on today. This is just my opinion, you may be better off just buying the 9 bitcoin instead so you don't have to wait such a long time to get it back, especially If BTC hits a nice rise. I'm constantly talking myself in and out of getting one and as of late am on the "out" stage right now. I do flop back and forth. If I'm reading the tradeblock site stats correctly, a September SP30 won't ROI at all at the price it is sitting at.

Buy some good thermal paste at your electricity hardware store. While that thermal compound/paste like Artic Silver is good, there are much better professional solutions at your electricity hardware store. Thermal tape, paste, compound, glue, gel, pads and even spray.

I am so curious to know how many of those finally left their Datacenter ,er ,warehouse for delivery.
Well this guy got his:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=170332.msg7415397#msg7415397

And then bitcoinorama xstr8guy got his
http://forum.kncminer.com/forum/main-category/hardware/46873-first-received-neptune

No wait, he was just talking about the first guy.

So on record we have a massive 1/1200 shipped.

Once again, well done knc for not misleading customers and completely keeping the misleading bullshit commitment lying you made 2 days ago to ship all Batch 1 this week.

We salute your integrity!

I had my team span out to all the UPS/FexeX ports and steal any boxes coming from KNC.

I'm running my SP10 at the same DC and they have been great. I didn't mean I couldn't find a place, I meant that the margins are so thin to begin with it is hard to give up anything on a monthly basis. I'm basically "cloud hashing" using my own equipment and paying someone to power it, cool it, insure it, and provide Internet access for it. Normal cloud hashing contract would most likely be more money since of course they would want to charge for the hardware itself also.
+1 for Michigan.

Get an iR temperature dot on that VRM and see how hot it really is. I'll guarantee you the bottom PCB's of those boards are already starting to turn brown from burn.

My Dad's Jupiter had a DIE die on him and KNC replaced it with a used board. We really didn't expect a new one anyway, and the bottom of the "new" PCB board was all brown from burning in. Long story short the replacement board worked and I made sure to tell him to try and keep it cool as possible. The VRMs were running so damn hot they physically burnt the board. Crazy that KNC would actually send that one back to replace a broken one. Cost $65 to send one little PCB back to Sweden, that's why we didn't ask for another one.

And where the heck is an open box??? Someone must have recorded one by now?
789  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: June 21, 2014, 02:53:49 PM
I feel screwed when I know that KnC's "hash while you wait" means forfeiting "Neptune two-for-one"!

KnC announced "hash while you wait" on April 8, saying first batch customers will start their cloud mining from early June and the last customer will hash in their data center around the last week of June. Now this is close to the end of June, and finally the Plan B arrived.

On April 28, KnC announced that "KnCMiner, the most trusted brand in Bitcoin mining, announced today that it will give every current customer who has an outstanding order for a machine from its Neptune line’s first two batches a free Neptune from its upcoming “third batch” of Neptunes."  I felt happy when KnC announced this, because it shows KnC at least tries to bring more profits to the customers (although, in fact, two Neptune still cannot reach ROI). To my understanding, this is a bonus/gift/giveaway from KnC, it has nothing to do with the compensation due to delay of delivery.

In the email I receved from KnC two days ago, I am notified to choose either "hash while you wait" or "switch to Titan". There was no terms saying that by select any of the options, the "neptune two-for-one" plan will no longer be valid. I read their T&C (convert.kncminer.com/terms/), the two options they offered has nothing to do with the two-for-one plan, therefore I signed up "hash while you wait", happily waiting for the cloud mining next week, first Neptune by the end of June, and second one in August.

Then I read the forum discussion, and I know that KnC actually use "hash while you wait" in replace of "neptune two-for-one"! I feel totally cheated and pissed off! How come KnC breaks their public promises, and deprive my rights by just giving some vague and ambiguous terms and conditions?

I use the online calculator for some maths: https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/calculator. (I set the difficulty increase 20%, power consumption 2.1kW, the rest parameters are with default values)

I spent 12999 USD on 3TH Neptune. With current difficulty, even if I start mining today, I can mine up to 6BTC before electricity fee exceeds the income. Suppose bitcoin price is 600USD, I can get back 3600 USD. There is still a gap of 9399USD!

If I receive a second neptune by Aug 31 (earliest estimated delivery date), then before electricity bill wins, I can mine up to 8.4 BTC together with the first neptune. This is about 5040USD in total. And the gap is still 7959USD!

"hash while you wait" has a max period of 45 days. Suppose I don't receive my neptune and therefore I use up all the cloud mining time, then I can get around 3.8BTC, equivalent to 2280USD. Of course, if KnC ships my first Neptune by end of June, then I only get 0.8-0.9 BTC while waiting...

So, even if I have both "hash while you wait" and "neptune 2-for-1", I can get maximum $(5040+2280)=$7320. The gap is $5679.

If I only have "hash while you wait" and one neptune, then revenue is $(3600+2280)=$5880, gap is $7119!

Now I can buy a 1TH miner for about 1500-1700 USD(e.g. http://www.lketc.com/goods/show-172.aspx  the dragon miner, one of the well-known mining rigs in China), and such mining rig is in stock and can be delivered in 2-3 days. With 12999 USD, I can buy up to 7-8 TH mining power! This is far more than 6TB that KnC can provide.

KnC said Neptune is to be delivered in Q1/Q2, and they make customers believe it refers to March/early April. Now it is the very end of Q2, and I feel disappointed.

KnC said the "hash while you wait" will be started in early June, and it is delayed, and I feel disappointed.

Now KnC will revoke their promises of give away a second Neptune, I am totally pissed!

We ALL said soon as we saw Q1/Q2 that means the end of Q2. I must have said that 20 times when they announced those dates but everyone ran out and dropped $10k (some $13K) on a pre-order that was 6 months away. I feel bad for people that received shitty deals, but don't have any empathy for the complainers about receiving hardware now and complaining it is so late. That's just the way it is with bitcoin hardware. It is more of a gamble these days picking the right horse to win. Who knows.

And advanced page:

Do I see right?

VRMs already running at around 99-100C?

Wtf, this is too much.

It will soon spit an error. Ericsson vrms are very sensitive.

Yes indeed, I saw some of them at 106 C.  I noticed as well that the aluminum plate isn't touching all the VRM's with the same pressure. Especially the one's at the end of the U-shape (at the out-flow side): some might have a small space of air (the DC/DC numbers 0 and 1 have significant higher temps).   I'm thinking, to add extra Fans on both sides blowing below the aluminum plate.

Horrible design for cooling. Seems they couldn't figure a way to really cool the VRM's properly so they just slapped some thick thermal pads on there thinking that would help.  Users are going to start to fry these things by just running them in normal ambient temperatures. For at least $10k I really would expect a "plug it in and forget about it" type hardware.

6 PH added to network last 24 hours

~ 2 years to the next block reward halving … wonder how many EH will be added to the network by then ?

Things are getting ugly really quickly and mining gear/btc prices not keeping up. Is this the end of the world as we know it ?

Can KNC keep up ?

Bitcoin will become a commodity. Either platinum or bronze I don't know.

Bitcoin will become property. Then taxes

I question what YOUR point is, I transferred a substantial amount of my (very hard earned) money into KnC's hands. I luckily got it refunded just in the nick of time, before it was too late to get it back (others weren't so lucky). From what I see and understand of there Neptune I would not have been very happy at all to receive the cubes, especially after all that time of waiting in the dark in reference to there horrible communication with the (paid) customers. I have to assume you don't own a Spondoolies product. Maybe if your a weekend hobbyist miner and don't mind the clutter and wasted space, then perhaps I can understand where your coming from.

~Blaise

My point is creaming over enterprise level hardware is retarded because you're paying EXTRA for all of that when it's likely going to be shutoff and recycled within the year.

Also, you're right, I don't own any SP-Tech gear because it's too f'ing loud and I'm not interested in cutting into my ROI by adding a bunch of colo costs.  But, it is beautiful hardware and given my previous statement I'm obviously retarded too.

It is hard to make arrangements to co-locate your mining gear all because they're cutting into your profits which are so tight to begin with. The miners that have their own data center, free electricity and noise is not a factor will be pretty much these last mining rigs coming out can handle.  After the middle of this year my guess the "consumer" is pretty much out of the equation due to power requirements, even louder gear and just the size of the hardware. Maybe 1 out of 10 people have their own rack in their basement but that's also in a small community in itself. I'm still trying to figure a way to get an SP30 and not having enough money isn't the problem. Price and logistics have made their way into my life.

Hosting companies DO NOT pass electricity savings to customers. if you compare prices in WA-they are essentially the same despite the fact that they pay 2c/electricity.
Electrical savings transmission simply does not WORK!
Sure it does. Ask advania in iceland how much they charge for power when you supply the fully populated container.
They pay 4 ct for power, they will bill you 5 ct.

Instant savings. Grin

advania quotes $160/mo per Sp-10, this is much much more than 5c/kw (it should be $44 in electricity /mo at this rate), so I don't know where you get your numbers.
Of course, they should charge small amount for everything else, but not 3 times more than electricity.

Unfortunately you'll never find a co-location DC that will host an SP10 for $150 or less. I have to pay $150/month for my SP10 since I could never run it in the house in the summer. Nothing I could do. I do have full access to the miner, for that price I better. It's not only the electricity, but to keep it cool as well. Some may find $150/month way too much, but if you had no other option then show us those low prices. Smiley

Mining is affordable if miner manufacturers lower their prices.  Everytime the difficulty rises by X percent, the manufacturer needs to lower their price by an equal percentage or risk being priced out of the market.  The hardware company that can best afford to adapt to that is the one that will survive.

Do you know any company that systematically does that week after week, apart from Bitmain. I don't.

This argument is irrelevant, aswell as impractical. You can´t expect companies to lower the price every day, as at the end of the day they will be left with nothing to sell at a profit.

It also doesn´t change the fact that when you buy in bulk, you get it cheaper.

When you deploy in bulk (atleast in a smart manner) you get it cheaper.

Therefore you will always have an advantage if you are either a big player, or many little players together.

Same as it always has been. Rich get richer, poorer get poorer. Easier to make money when you have it.

I wish Spondoolie would drop on their SP30. Been over a month or more and same price ( I think ). Right now cost about 9 bitcoins for an SP30. Wonder how long an SP30 will make back 9 bitcoins....will it? Have to be a cheapo these days....bill collectors are abundant. Smiley

Moving on to my other lame brain choice NOT to host my sp30 beg of sept batch unit

cooling (upper midwest usa minnesota)

won't come till August ..which gets plenty hot...I assume?Huh (although may have been hottest last year ever)

that my basement where I plan to put the units will not go above 35c (or if i am correct 95F) but ...it could

I got 2 $35 dual side by side temp controlled fans to put in the basement windows (usual 15" by 29" if i remember correctly vinyl replacement)

so (knowing nothing) I assume I can have one blowing air out and other dual fan setup blowing air out of the bsmt for air flow

also fan blowing over the sp30 ..maybe something like this accross the case perpendicular to the fans blowing thru ..just to get the heat away

http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-Pro-Performance-Blower-4900/dp/B001DNGSCM

again the sp30 front would be facing towards me (as you look at your screen) the fan above would be on the side blowing across sp30 right to left (you'd see its side from
your current screen postion)

so would that be enough air flow? to keep the dang thing cool?

I could build a 'high ladder like shelf" and place a small window a/c unit to blow directly on the sp30 placed on the shelf in front and/or still have a dual fan or two blowing
air out as well at the other side of the bsmt as well ..but quite frankly that feels like overkill

I know I know i probably should host it..but sept unit   oct/nov/dec will use the thing to heat the house and my elec rate was equiv to hosting rate...decided to be cheap

(and i do like my 'precious ...er i mean toys..nearby"

likely last hurrah..i really don't see me getting 5k miners next year...prob better just to buy coin...but this year I can still play 'stupid' and treat them like the
speed boat I (may/could/likely/should have) gotten for sh*ts/giggles rather then this seductive bitcoin hobby

anyway solutions/options etc

er almost forgot also will have a Titan in this mix (1250w) with the sp30 (2600w) that is (3850w)

yeah again stupid ..but just have to limp thru august maybe 1/2 of oct at worse

ah the webs we weave when we mine btc to receive ....(should prob say deceive in that i want to receive more then i coulda got buying btc but whatever)

anyway hope i get some replies to this or gonna have a 'cool' sauna in the bsmt in august

Searing

I was an 'apprentice electrican' like 40 years ago ..thought maybe things had gotten odd at 220v or some such for 220v end

best to be safe..it has been 40 years

( I can however manage to wire in house anywhere I want w/o an issue that much has not changed...but equip ends..well had to ask)

Dunno how I managed it, I'd never touched electrics in my life. Funny how when needs must, things just; get done!

Did you order from Spondoolies yet Brad? thought you were having a sabbatical from purchasing after your kfc shambles?

jumped early sept shoulda said sept rather then august but have the Titan in august same diff need to start planning wiring and cooling

You can easily plug your country´s specific power cord into the provided "extensions" cords.

Alternatively, you can directly plug them into one of these

Blowing around hot air doesn't help much. Has to be energized cool air to really make a difference.

So any miner can join the pool and screw shit up? And how do they accomplish this? Aren't there triggers that go off when it starts to happen? And I tried going back multiple pages and can't find anything about what's really going on or happened.

I goggled "Never send BTC to an address you get in a PM" - no hit, why not send to address in pm ?

There were cases of fake users like "RoadStress`" that were asking bitcoins for immediate shipping miners. They were obviously scammers! That's why you never send BTC to addresses that you receive in a PM from me or from SP-Tech (we won't ask money in a PM, but fakes users will do) or anyone that promises you anything.

And of course you encrypt the addresss and information anyway, so even if you end up sending the info along they still won't be able to do anything with it anyway. NEVER send personal information without encrypting it first. It is well worth the small extra steps you have to do. And then of course common sense is the most prevalent here.
