FWIW, my BitForce FPGA Singles do not bear any FCC, CE, or UL stickers or marks (or anything else for that matter).
Nor does my Avalon.
Personally, I'm not real worried. I'm sure some of the GPU rigs I've built and am now operating are much more of a fire (or RFI/EMI) risk than either of the above-mentioned devices.
I accept that mining is an "extreme hobby", and carries with it some risks, including the risk of burning down my house (or at least my miner shed).
With that said, I think this thread was more about catching BFL in a lie/broken promise. Well, I don't think we'll have too much trouble finding numerous examples of those. Shall we ask Honest Abe what charity they've donated 1,000 BTC to?

We can discuss Luke-Jr till the end of eternity but this will change nothing in his behavior. He does only what voices in his head say.
You mean his imaginary friend? I hear they're prescribing tinfoil for that a lot these days. I've been looking into gold foil myself...

Be aware that some countries have import restrictions on candy. Bubble gum in particular.
I recall a case where some important displays and such did not make it to their trade show in time because someone decided to throw a handful of gum squares in the box on a whim.

with asics here... I have a question.. WHY?!
Well, ASICs aren't really "here" yet. If they were, we'd all have stacks of them mining right now. Even FPGAs are very difficult to obtain. Just look at all the WTB posts for them in Computer Hardware. I think they'll be a hot item.

Just ordered 10 myself. (didn't pay yet.)
I might resell some here in the states.

Beaflag VonRathburg = 10 Units detail3 = 06 Units Zalfin = 05 Units
continue.... 79 to go
I'm down for 10 units. I'm in the states myself. How will you (the GB coordinator) take payments from group members, when, and in what form?

SAMSUNG DVD Burner SATA Model SH-224DB/BEBE - OEM Item #: N82E16827151266 $18.99

Don't need an optical drive or an SSD. A 2GB USB flash drive is fine. 8GB of memory is overkill. 2GB is fine. Be aware that this Sapphire rebate is limited to one unit per household, so don't count on being able to redeem all of them. I found this out the hard way, myself. Thanks for the info - I think having the SSD drive does make it easier to debug the unit though if something happens. The USB drive can be finicky IMO. I thought I've read many times that LTC rigs need the memory - I don't know why, but that seemed to be commonly recited. If that's not correct, care to explain why? I'd love to learn (and save money in the process) ... USB Flash has always worked well for me with no weirdness using 2GB Kingston DataTravelers. I guess if you got bad flash drives you may have a problem. A hard drive or PXE works too. I've heard that too about RAM, but I can say that I have 3 rigs right now with 4 cards each that do Scrypt just fine with 2GB of RAM, and show plenty of memory free. I run BAMT on mine, which uses a 32-bit non-PAE kernel, so they can't see more than about 3GB anyway.

Looks almost like a toaster.. Make some slots on top...
Yeah, the heat might still be enough to fry some eggs, too Nice. Along with the coffee warmer, they're heading for a complete breakfast set.

(mining PPC, TRC, BTE) is the same...just insert details for another pool to cgminer config and you should start..
Surely it is just a little more involved than that? No? No.

Any details on how the bank transfer payment works from a US bank? Is it via ACH, or some other method?
Any chance of adding an option to purchase with Visa/Mastercard?
I'm considering buying a small batch to resell in the states...

Surely someone will try to trade these in for Avalons. Are there any distinguishing marks that identify them as clones?

Do these come with 10k resistors in positions R56 and R47 for 1.16V core voltage, or are they 9.1k resistors for 1.26V core voltage?

I'd want more than 2000 watts in that room for my miners. Make it 14.4kW and you're talking.
Are there provisions for heat exhaust and fresh air intake?
Is there fire protection? Insurance? Good internets? Physical security?

Sounds good. Don't forget to use powered risers if you're running more than 3 cards.

I am also very interested in joining these efforts! I am an EE hobbyist but very eager to play around with these chips. Luckily these chips are QFN, which is a godsend compared to BGA. This also means we can use OSH park for prototypes all the way up to 4 layers for cheap. Some quick questions: https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Avalon <-- is this a good repository of everything we know so far? Has anyone stuck a scope on one of these chips and checked out the signals? Did anyone decap the chip yet and get photos? If not, seeing as how this ic is only 110nm, we should be able to send a few chips to a decap plant and have them decap it properly and get high quality images only for a few grand. For a few grand more, they should be able to reverse engineer it a bit for us too. I see BkkCoins has done some chip pin inspecting. Do you have any oscope close by so we can get the clock frequency? Some multimeters have a frequency counter. Anyways, I would gladly help out designing the PCB for these chips. I have Altium on hand and can make a few prototypes. I actually wonder if someone who has an Avalon can sell one of the modular units? Then the dev's can send it to each other every few days to take turns trying to find out as much information as possible. With my partners we bought a broken Avalon and I can check with them to provide a blade for inspection so we learn as much as possible while the specs get to us. All the best, Dieguito Would you consider selling one of the hashing submodules out of it (one of the boards with the 10 ASIC chips)? I would love to have one on hand to study also.

I would be pleased if anyone could make detailed pictures of the avalon board with the asics, power stages, etc.
I would like to start developing as soon as possible.
Regards
Knecke
https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/AvalonThese aren't adequate. I looked carefully at the board photo and you can identify some pins but some parts go out of focus and it's impossible to follow traces to figure out most pins. A direct overhead flat shot showing a larger area of the board would be ideal. Some more photos here: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=153511.0I don't know if those are any more adequate or not. Note the links to full-resolution versions at the end of the post.

Check your PSU. Try a different one.

I've had a couple 5970s die, which I'm pretty sure saw some pretty high temps at least some of the time.
So far I've not had any single-chip cards die. They're not as easy to overheat.
I never overvolt my stuff, though I do OC sometimes, or undervolt.
