Over half of my wages goes up to expenses like rent, food etc.

From the left overs I

1/3 invest
1/3 spend and live life

This is a good habit.

I most observe on most the people is that they already have a commitmnet before they are even settled. Got married without proper jobs. Too focused on laboring and its really hard for them to invest in second business.

You advice shall be applicable easily on cash purchase. If you take a credit card, then the limit is the credit limit. So it is better not to carry credit card with you.

It is easy to say.. But a lot of people are addicted from cigarettes or alcohol.. Don't want to think even about drugs and gambling. For them it is not easy and they need advice.

I love reading stories of software engineers who make 6 figures yet you see on all these news outlets that even saving 5% of their salary is impossible and oh noes we're doomed for retirement!1111!!11one!!!

You can live on $20k a year if you're frugal, in a decently low cost of living area and smart. Even in higher COL areas $30k-40k will get you by. There is no reason you can't save say 50% of your salary on a $100k salary easily, if you can't live on $50k/year (after tax) you need to re-evaluate how you actually live.

That's is the problem. People lack the patience to save. They see it as money that can be put towards something that can use now. It is just in human nature. It is called instant gratification.
They want that winter jacket because it is getting cold outside, I won't put it into savings, I will buy that jacket because it is on sale. Do they need it? No. They could just as well us their old one from 5 years running.
But they want new and see it as "saving" on the price if it on sale. So they weight in the pros and cons and usually remove what they were going to put in saving to buy this new jacket. Also people are victims of vanity.

Spending (consuming) are habits needed for life, in a way it is the same thing with food. you really want to get yourself something nice.

The satistaction though is just momentary. But saving all your money is also wrong, since you need to stimulate certain hormons in yoru body.

Key is to find a right balance to buy what you need and save what you can.

That's what it is all about. Find a balance in your spending and your savings.
Spend on what you need and save on what you can. You can't over do on one or the other, it will now work out in the long run.
The satisfaction you mentioned is good but not to a vane standpoint. Finding something nice for yourself, that would seen as a reward to yourself and for what? Only if you did something through hard work do you deserve to reward yourself for a job well done.

The key to effectively save money is not to spend it on stuff that you really don't need. As long as you have food, clothing, and shelter, those would be the necessary things to live. If you already have something which is working, (such as a smartphone) don't waste your hard earned money on the latest upgrade. Just be happy with what you already have.  Cheesy

yes that is important is the balance, the level of expenditure should be adjusted to the level of income

When I was 15 years old I was starting working and I had a plan.

That a year I only spend 500 dollar and the rest in my savings.

So now I have alot of money. And I still plannig how much I spend a year because I dont need alot.

This only can happend if you dont have a girlfriend. Tongue

that's great formula if your salary is huge enough to take away "Savings" first then whatever is left is for your "Expenses" or daily living allowance not advisable for those who just make both ends meet.
