Seriously? Fucking about with bits of cardboard in a multi thousand rig that's days old?

Mine arrives needing shit like that they will get it back, I paid for a working miner capable of a certain hashrate and anything less is not acceptable.
IT should have been here a fucking week ago too.

Read the site, what they are selling. That is what you should get. Simple as that. They don't deliver that, they are at fault.
You fucking about with it makes it vulnerable to them claiming you are out of warranty. Be careful.

I started out pre-ordering from BFL then got my refund as I thought it was a racket. Next was a couple of asicminer blades (12GH/s each). Very intense maintenance but I enjoyed them but made no profit. They did deliver them fast although they were relatively expensive and not very advanced or as fast to keep up with the difficulty rise at the time.

Next an Avalon batch#3. Sofisticated and relatively advanced, nice equipment but I lost money on it with all the delays. Now KNC Jupiter. Already lost the race, I think. Unless the BTC keeps going steadily up I will likely sell it within a month and perhaps recover my overall 3000.00 loss so far. Still pondering what to do because of this recent rise on the BTC due to Asia which could be extremely meaningful for the future of BTC.

So, my conclusion is that there seems to be an inherent mathematical impossibility regarding ROI in BTC because we would need a quickly delivered, fast hashing, way ahead of current difficulty needs, reasonably priced unit we could quickly buy additional modules ahead of time to keep up with the steeper difficutly increases. However, only the people that get them first would have a good return, everyone else would still likely lose in BTC. In paper currency, it all depends. You may gain or lose depending on how the wind is blowing, if the USD doesn't crash before you make any return! So, enjoy the rollercoaster ride. No one knows what lies ahead of the next curve and it may derail at any time!

Someone said a while back that during the Eldorado gold rush those who sold the shovels made a fortune. Most people lost their skin.

Okay nothing work, so now i tried to do what someone else said with downgrade to .90, power cycle, run enable cores, power cycle, upgrade to fw. .96. So far I went through one cycle of many enable cores back from disable and then some going to disable again. SO, maybe it works now. I really hope this fixes it.

Also, i tried connecting only one hashboard at a time, and i got the same error of hashing going to 2 Mb/s after an enable core disable core cycle.

I hope this new try works.

No wonder people who have experimented, (like the photos posted by trepex & soy), have put fans on either side, blowing directly into the VRMs and this seems to improve the situation.

And the other thermal image photo shows that the beaglebone get's hot. I wouldn't have been able to guess it needed a bit of extra cooling without someone sharing their research.

So keep up the experiments guys, it's interesting for us all until we get our own units to play with.

After reading your article (thanks for mentioning me!), I thought I extend my highly professional  Wink cooling
by a 3rd fan.

The last (>1 day) overall stats from cgminer had been at 269Gh/s. It looks like the new setup gives me 5-8Gh/s more. Now
over 275Gh/s  Smiley
But that's only short term data, so I will update you tomorrow.

When I fuss with my cardboard and fans, I sometimes get a reboot.  Since I run, at the present, without the top, center cardboard cooling the BBB, a 12v fan sitting inside blowing on the left side of the module, another 12v fan outside the case blowing on the right side of the 1 module (Mercury), I added another piece of cardboard to the right of the BBB, to the side and up to the module, taking the air pushed out the side and directing it to the module.  The miner white light came on and off as I moved the fans, perhaps a loose pin in an added fan connector, but it started again right away.  Put Bertmod back but earlier tried the 0.2.1 and found it works well with firmware 0.90, looked at my cores, which I could with the 0.2.1, and earlier their was a single core not up, but now there are four 100% cores and the BertMod says the power change from adding that one core on firmware 0.90 with ~0.9v to the 4 vmr's, was 174 watts with one core down and 180 watts with all cores running.
Any chance of a few photos? Hard to visualise.

Could you take one the other way, looking from the power supply towards the beaglebone? Just wanted to see how you are pushing the air down on the BBB.

All you'll see is the cardboard tucked under the module and tucked under the 90° angle of the front top.  There is a crease in the cardboard.  Unless it's you want me to search the cardboard from some indication that it was what my Jalapeno and broken coffee cup came in?

Now I recall, Avenger, embroiled in heated exchanges.  Are you with BFL?

Sheesh, the photos you provided just show chunks of cardboard, I wanted to see how the air was being directed inside from the inlet fan. Forget it.

Look, the cardboard goes from the metal bottom to the angled edge of the front.  Air pushed in by the front fans can only go out the sides but pushes down on the BBB at the same time.  Experiment.  If you're not running a Mercury then my arrangement ain't best for you.

From the thermal imaging photos and user experiment's, it's beginning to look like the VRM's are in a sub-optimum position. According to the spec sheet, the cooling airflow should be directed like this (thanks to Bitbuster for jpg):



As the VRMS are mounted parallel to the edge of the case, I imagine very little cool air in getting down in there and certainly the air is not being directed the way it is required to keep them optimally cool. To make things worse in the Jupiter, the late addition baffles added to the case are probably pushing hot air in that direction.

No wonder people who have experimented, (like the photos posted by trepex & soy), have put fans on either side, blowing directly into the VRMs and this seems to improve the situation.

Not sure anyone has been able to do this with a jupiter, as there wouldn't be space to sit fans on each side. It seems the way jupiter owners have handled this is to sit a massive box fan on top of the miner blasting air downwards to cool.

And the other thermal image photo shows that the beaglebone get's hot. I wouldn't have been able to guess it needed a bit of extra cooling without someone sharing their research.

So keep up the experiments guys, it's interesting for us all until we get our own units to play with.

We have the 4 empty VRM slots with pads to which we can solder tantalum caps to the 1v rail.  The 12v in also has filtering and could use some too.

Thanks.  Then it may be the voltage in filtering.  Building a buck converter to drop voltage from 16.5 to 12 for a zTex, the requirements were a low ESR cap very near the input leads of the buck converter.  So, the 12v in rail has low ESR capacitors that remain in place even tho the VRM are turned off.

I was wondering about that since the caps, etc around the removed VRMs are also removed from the 4 VRM boards.

Okay. that seems to have worked and fixed it. However, someone told me that I could hit "d" then "z" in cgminer to 0 out the statistics. So this is a cgminer error problem because even though I would get 1.8 Mb/s average, I would still get 500+ gh/s 5s hash rate

I'm not so sure that's the case.  Looking at my one module I see what I think is an empty VRM spot near the "1" and there is a row of caps there.

KnC 0:  | 149.8G/138.1Gh/s | A:499611 R:33063 HW:39437 WU:2197.4/m

The above line is the best I've had yet and Slush is showing the miner doing 137.2GH/s.  I'm hesitant about shutting down a well working machine to add tantalum caps to the 12 rail on the module.  If it improves and I can use as a result 0.95 or 0.96 and drop over 100 watts at the wall, I still won't get any higher hash or WU than I'm getting right now.  Let's see, what's 100 watts costing me per month, (100watts)(24hours)=2.4KWhours/day.  30.5 days a month that's 73.2kw/month.  $0.075/kw * 73.2 = $5.49.

Jupiter weighs exactly 10 kg.
Dimensions fit exactly or even too tight for hand baggage limits of ryanair if you bubble wrap it three times.
So be aware of your luggage limits... and ryanair...
and damn stockholmish prices for taxi (15 kms are 60 EUROS) ...
Bus from skavsta airport to city terminal will cost you 16 GBP.
It is faster to walk to knc office from terminal, took me 15 mins tops, 1.2 km walk with GPS navigator.

and damn bloody cold out there -1 to +4  Smiley

And a huge mental and physical stress for entire day and night.
Almost certain that one or more fan covers will fall off or be loose, you must check insides before switching on your gadget!
