if only a single asic and pcb per box, then why a safety hazard?
I't basically the same as the 28nm was then
edit:   oh, i see..    2100 watts/5 is 420 per plug...ouch   Double connectors (pci splitter)may be in order.....  wonder how hot those leads will be

Molex rates those Minifit-JR plugs at 8A per conductor.  Since there are three, the plug itself is rated to 24A.  KNC intends for you to run at 45.8% above the manufacturer's rating.   Any thoughts on what happens after running something like this 24/7 at 45.8% above its rated capacity?

i'll give 'em a clue - you can roast marshmallows with it  Wink

Those housings will not survive at those ratings and become brittle and then melt/burn out. I really hope that KnC can get the power down for these or it will be real interesting.

Here is more info on the connectors: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=62686.0

Perhaps you need to use these 13A per wire http://www.molex.com/molex/products/family?key=minifit_plus_connector_system&channel=products&chanName=family&pageTitle=Introduction&parentKey=minifit_products

hmm, yeah...  looks like you get double the wattage using the extra two black pins going from six to eight pin. Maybe there's a way we can jumper the extra ground to the psu to compensate for it being six pin. (Just a thought)

So it's not a matter of the PSU cables, or requiring a splitter.  It's a matter of the connector that's mated to the PCB being run well past its rating.  There should be at MINIMUM two PCI-E plugs, three if you want to leave the end-user room to overclock.

Yes this is stupid, unless KNC thinks most people will make custom connections for power with correct guage wires and non-conventional power supplies.

If this is the case at least include some custom heavy duty pcie-cables (if thick enough, a single rail psu can handle it), for 12k people deserve that at least.

up until a week or so ago i thought s1gs3gv was a lot smarter - but perhaps hes playing a role for reason/s as yet unestablished??

Why thank you Sir Edgar. If you are referring to my agreement with Searing that it is probably best just to buy BTC instead of miners, I'm not sure how you could take exception to that. After all, buying mining hardware now is like buying BTC at a 10-20% premium.

Will be interesting to see how the S3 is priced ...

Actually i fully agree with the sentiment of buying coin direct over paying full price for any of the miners on offer now. but this was discussed, calculated & agreed upon when the S2 was released 'ages' ago.

Sighrings repetition of it among other bunkum hardly makes him the 'founding father of forethought'

I was specifically referring to your recent 'Leave KnC Alone' crusade, them chumps fumbled the ball in september last year - and NEVER managed to get a grip since!

i wont repeat how & why as it is already fully known & understood.

As for the S3 - my guess is Over-Priced, as per 'sigh'ing usual.

i think much more interesting will be the state of the 'nearlytunes' when they start arriving on doorsteps & the subsequent cheers/tears 999/911 calls for the fire brigade/dept.

the greed of these guys knows NO bounds

LOL @ Phonie 'never stops learning' - clearly you need to bone up on your math as well as reading comprehension, or perhaps you can hit the old ignore aka save me from my own ignorance button

E2A - LMFAO!! Wonder how you survived this long!

For profit buying is great. For securing the network... Mining always helps out. Helps secure any coins you might have invested as all.

Making Apps and Websites for people. I charge reasonable rates ($30-40/hour in BTC).

If they did not think about the connector then there is something wrong with their engineering dept.

Are you fucking stupid?  You CHOSE to receive the 3TH early - in a set-up described as patched up bunch of parts in existence rather than wait.  I decided to wait.  You got bitcoin for last 3 months.  I got nothing.  Now that Neptune is ready, you'd like to cry like a little bitch?  Fuck that.  It was understood by everyone what your 3TH would be made of.  You chose that path rather than risk the additional wait.

Your legal recourse is NOTHING.  You can't ask for legal help now that your dumb choice failed you.  No law protects dumb people who make dumb choices.  You should have waited for on time delivery of your Neptune rather than panic and try to pull a fast one.

This mistake is on you dumbass.  Quit trying to sue KNC because you weren't expecting anything less than a perfect running Neptune in January.  That was all your dumb mistake.

I wish the fucking crybabies around here would shut up.  KNC is delivering on time, on spec.  All you pussies are just sad your Neptune isn't going to make 25X on investment.  That isn't KNC's fault.  Now, suck it up and quit bitching.  What a fucking little girl.

I'm going to have a good chuckle after the Neptune burns down your house, the people who got Frankenjups are still hashing and the people that had half a brain in their head refunded, doubling their BTC.

Well, I was completely wrong about the Neptune never shipping and customers being forced into cloudmining, lol. But oddly, I don't regret my decision to go with the FrankenJup. At least I was able to hash for awhile before the network hashrate starts spiking +25% per difficulty adjustment. It's going to get ugly very soon because all of the big guns will be shipping. Yes, even BFL. Wink

The Frankenjup was a disaster, but at least you got to end your dealings with KNC, which is a very good thing.

I mean, KNC claim they got their Neptomb chips on Tuesday and said they will ship all Batch 1 this week and all Batch 2 next week. It total and utter lies. I don't know how they can write lies like that and sleep at night. Their children will be disgusted when they find out how KNC made their money through such lies and deceipt.

The pain for the Neptune customers is just beginning. You are lucky not to be involved!  Smiley

I don't like it one bit. I bought a couple 1300 W PSU so now what? I run 3 off one and 2 from the other? can I do 2.5 on each???

(btw thanks for the PSU switches, they work great)

follow up question, would I be able to run 4 modules from 1 of these?

We will have to wait to see what the final power numbers are going to be but the issue isn't with breaking up neptune boxes per PSU but really how much power each box draws looks to be more than the connector/pins are rated for...by a lot.  Unless the power estimates for each board comes down to less than 300w each things will be interesting.

Each yellow cable can handle 75W, an 8-pin molex has 3 yellow cables (by spec) placing a total power to 225w, 6-pin pci-e cable has 2 yellow cables, so 150w max power output.

if a single sub-unit of the Neptune would draw 2100w/5 = 420w, it would need at least 6 yellow cables inside 2x 8-pin pci-e connectors.

I wish the fucking crybabies around here would shut up.  KNC is delivering on time, on spec.  All you pussies are just sad your Neptune isn't going to make 25X on investment.  That isn't KNC's fault.  Now, suck it up and quit bitching.  What a fucking little girl.

You will burn in hell.
KnC delivered on spec and on time.  Which other company did that?

Even Spondoolies which is all talk for the moment hasn't yet pulled this off.

Now everyone is complaining about the connector?  Buy a fucking soldering gun assholes.  KnC took a serious beating from all you crybabies and they still delivered on spec and on time.  They even DOUBLED the hash for their customers - which they did not have an obligation to do, just to make things good.  It wasn't KnC's fault the difficulty went so high.  On the day I bought, it was my responsibility to figure that out.  Yet KNC doubled my order just because they are fucking nice.

Everyone who posted anything against KnC was just a full raging dick.  KnC rules.  All you refunders are just bitter you missed it.  Suckers.

Does anyone know if they can tell if they really do have 20nm chips as opposed to 28nm if they are going to ship you 5 boxes? What if they shipped Nov jups at 700G underclocked to conserve power and put them in 5 shiny boxes that would equal 3T.
