Considering a refund for 50 batch #2 chips, depends on the refund on assembly.
burnin is promising 50% refund on assembly. Could you promise the same order of magnitude?

This is a very good question. For those choosing the refund option, surely there is at least SOME room for partial refunds on assembly. Especially for those that ordered full assembly, testing, and rush shipping... As for requesting refunds, I've decided I DO want a refund for my order of 36 Batch #4 chips. But why is everyone emailing Steamboat and getting on some spreadsheet? Didn't Steamboat say we would be notified of how to request refunds? Should we really be posting transaction details in this thread? I'm just sayin... "We will post an update and send an email to everyone who has purchased chips with additional information and instructions once we have received confirmation of the refund option."

I'm currently in for assembly and hosting, so without more details as to how much SB will be able to refund on those, I cannot say if I will want chips refunded or not.
Steamboat: Even if it isn't final, I would appreciate a ballpark of how much you'll be able to refund on assembly and hosting. I understand you have costs above and beyond BOM that you cannot eat, but a ballpark guesstimate as to how much we can get back if we do a full refund will be helpful. Also, thanks for keeping a clear and professional head through all of this.

Could be interesting to read what other company like Terahash propose; (Btcgarden taped out and expect new batch of chips in sept (many many chips). And hes looking board assambly manufacture to produce the miners. I guess Liquid Synergy Design would be willing to accept hes offer and I assume SB is for long houl in this business. If you guys wish, I can bring up the refund issue with Yifu (in case he answers), and get the chips refunded. But we are heavily invested into this. The cases, custom heat sinks, PCBs, parts acquired at higher prices or acquired from secondary market are all non-refundable and impossible to sell. And since we ordered everything for 80,000 chips (40,000 our own and 40,000 anticipated assembly orders). So even with a refund from Avalon (which we highly doubt they will ever give), we might be able to give only a very small partial refund.
But as I said we are working on something new, I request all of you to be a little more patient. We are going to announce something very unique, very exciting and very affordable next week. We really can't give out much details as of now, but in our opinion this would essentially be the final evolution in Bitcoin mining.
All of you know that we have demonstrated the ability to produce and run the boards. We were the first one to successfully assemble a K16, and we were the first to start mining with a fully assembled K16 as well. And we will again demonstrate the ability to mass produce boards once we get the chips.
In my opinion, instead of taking a decision of behalf of everyone and pressing Avalon for refunds, we give everyone the following options individually:
a) If you want 100% refund, you need to give us 3 months time. We fully acknowledge that we are legally required to issue a refund when asked. Legal issues aside, we ourselves want to do the right thing to maintain our credibility. But the fact is we do not have enough liquidity right now to process all the refund requests. If you are willing to settle for a partial refund right now, please contact us and we can work something out. b) Keep your order with us. We deliver it within the promised time (2 weeks of receiving the chips). We will also give you a 20% (of your current order) credit for our next project which we will be announcing next week. This credit will be transferable (you can sell it if you want).
I hope you understand that we are doing this despite the fact that the current situation is NOT our fault. Everyone who ordered from us were totally aware of the risks involved. Also 20-25% was our average profit per order. So even with option 'b', we are willing to make 0 profit from this whole Avalon saga, just for the sake our next project and to maintain long-term credibility for our company.
We would love to hear your comments on this.

I am only doing this to show that we can at least get to one full batch (10,000 chips). So I am just doing this preemptively and hopefully will make steamboats load a little lighter and just to show amount of interest. If you wish to be added to the list either pm me the details (username, chips #, batch #, transaction id) or send the info to ChipRefund@3mail.33mail.com - transaction ID is absolutely necessary to verify all claims. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Au277u2T6_H3dGRjZkllM3R5cTdVXzZpd0h2Sm5Ub3c#gid=0

I'm sure SB will contact us through email officially like he has in the past when he has a plan in place. That's what he did when he canceled Batch 7 orders. Give the poor guy some time. At this point, a few days won't make a difference.

Thank you for the update Steamboat, Please do update us on the refund aspect for assembly costs. Burnin stated in his thread at least 50% recovery is likely, more if you reuse components with him for the Bitfury project. Everyone understands there are sunk costs that are not recoverable, but other unperformed services should be recoverable. I do plan to reuse a lot of components for the bitfury design. But some can not be reused and will be thrown away, like the PCBs for example.
For those that received a refund i could give a discount on a new bitfury order of about 70% of the not-returned funds. But we all have to ask ourselves: is bitfury going to deliver?
Executive summary: 50% refund guaranteed. 70% money recovered when ordering a BitFury product.
Understanding what recovery is possible on assembly services has a large impact on deciding whether or not to go ahead with a refund IMHO. This all may be mute though. In Yifu's latest communication to Zefir he said he much prefers refunds over anything else. His comments also made it sound as if he is having difficulty receiving ASICs at all (shock), which makes me think these batches may all just end up getting canceled refunded regardless what we decide... Thanks again for the hard work on this steamboat, it is too bad for everyone it has gone this way

I am not sharing my order details with anyone until steamboat tells me to. I have told him about my refund request on email, as that is where he normally communicates with his groupbuy members.
