Lost a little on some block a while back, gained some on a block a while back

Worked out exactly where it was supposed to be

Complaining about pennies just so you know they are discontinued (in Canada) Eat my shorts!

I have had nothing but good times on Slush's pool.

That's great.  So if your bank randomly starts charging you for purchases you didn't make, but then makes phantom deposits at other random times, you're okay with this as long as it seems like it evens out in the end.  The problem is, how do you know if it's really evening out?  If the accounting algorithm is broken, there is no way to know if someone is skimming off the top or not.  Not saying Slush is doing that at all, but just that it would be impossible to know for sure.

Why would it be impossible to know? Everything is on the blockchain and can be reviewed if concerns arise.

Perusing the last 10-15 pages of this thread, you guys can't even agree on which blocks were missed.  I really doubt someone is going to go through the trouble of a REAL audit when they can simply change pools until all these bugs are fixed.  Those that are content with the bugs won't bother, and those that aren't simply move on.

These are not missed blocks but invalids, also, it's quite apparent which one had trouble.  namely block 238386 and 238247 (the last 2) Shocked

You must have missed a page or two.  There were a few missed blocks as well.  I've since moved on to btcguild, but for a split second I thought about coming back.  Noooope.  Good luck with the bugs though.

I have written that these were the last 2. not that 2 were all that proved invalid.

Im paying over 150UKP per month elecrticity extra, and that is wthout turning on the AirCon, which i need to now as my room temp has shot up to a point where i cannot sit in it for more that a few hours.

As the temp outside rises, the aircon will need to work harder so i guess in a week or 2 my earnings will pass the point of being positive.

Unless BTC rises faster than my temp its a loss loss situation.

Even if I have to spend .33$/kWh over here in Germany, your post amused me

How about putting your rigs in different places in the house? You would save money for AC in summer and for heating in winter - especially in Sweden... :-)

Yeah just heat the house in different places, would be great IF I NEEDED HEAT :-)

joolzg: I live in .se too. With my 7970 I make at least twice as much as electricity costs. That's not unimportant but my driving force is the anarchist part of it, and a currency that will work even when the world economies go down the drain (yeah I'm a pessimist). Call it an investment or insurance.

I must admit the heat is becoming a serious issue tho. Not to mention the noise. But as long as I get more back than I put in I'll keep going.

OK im just outside of malmo.

Before BTC mining 750sek electricity bill as i have a few linux servers running for various jobs
Last month 1 rig running 2x7970s, bill 1500sek
This month 2 rigs running 2x7970 and 2x6990, bill 2650sek ( and i was on holiday a week, so wife was not using the washing machine/dryer)

The noise was solved by keeping my door closed all the time.

The heat was ok with my window open fully, but now not enough as the temp rises.

so how you can make it work must be due to a different elecy supplier? whos yours? im with EON

Maybe i can ship my rigs to you and pay you a %

I wanted to post my statistics page, but did not find a "spoiler" feature to hide this unnecessary blunter from the innocent people.
For the sake of the argument...
OK I have looked at numbers. The main problem is your speed. To be 97% sure you need 25% deviation if I have calculate that correctly... Unless you have a log of shares.

Only block 18267 shows that and you gain on it 0,000323941. So others might have lost on that one just a bit or you were extremely lucky to get shares right at the end. Did you see any strange estimated rewords during that block?

Close to 95% is also a block 18264. You lost 0,000310308. But it was invalid and still a chance it could happen... So loss is 0,001320498

And 18268 was also wary lucky for you but too short to say anything. But sometime score reset do spill from block to block so it might be that... You have gained 0,000306055.

Blocks 18256, 18254, 18253, 18252, 18248 and 18247 are suspicious but less definitive. So hard to say... 18248 and 18247 are probably wrong. With them you have lost 0,00099292

And then there are smaller then 14% differences... Complicity normal with your speed and you did gain with them so total difference is only 0,001454909 in your loss(1 good block). So again total normal with one invalid if invalid is normal. But it is some time since I saw last complaint that block didn't fix itself. It was 18264 but since it is invalid that doesn't count...

EDIT:
Sorry, but Lucko could be right here - compared to the number of invalids we typically get when all is well, 2 invalids so close together is an alert - especially considering we have a recently known issue here - I just hope we don't see any more...
From that I understated the error is not constant but sporadic. So it could take some time for it to appear again. Fingers crossed...

@joolzg: I've got a watt meter connected to one computer with a 7970 and it consumes 300W.
The computer would be running 24-7 anyway but idling at ~80 watts.
That's 220 watts extra = 5.28 kW a day.

I pay about 0.15€/kW = 0.79€ a day
Puter mines ~3€ a day.
Which leaves a 2.2€ profit. Not much but an investment in an independent currency.

I really need to solve the heat problem if I'll be able to mine this summer though. I was hoping for a Jalapeno but once I'd get one if ever, difficulty would be too high so I cancelled my order a few days ago. (I just received the refund and made aboout 1 BTC from it btw. Exchange rates...).

Things like "Slush must do so and so" are pushing a bit too much beyond the boundaries. Slush has given you no promise to perform, nor has he signed any contract to do so. So - there you have it - there is no promise that he will do anything. He may do so or maybe not. If he does - it will be if he wants.

+1 and i would also add: when he is able to, because he is a human not a machine!

He did his best up until now and we trusted him! Now he is unable to take much care for the pool, because of more important issues - personal/family.
'Rats leave the sinking ship first' - if you are a rat, then leave. The rest of us (sailors) should trust our captain and keep the ship cut through the waves during storms ... at the end we may just not have rats on board Smiley

You had 2 invalid blocks and that is 100% loss on a block.

Wrong! Once again: assume that at such blocks there was just no new round started! Why? Because someone else found it before us and we just didn't know yet ... if we knew, then we wouldn't start a new round = no invalid, but still no reward so we have lost NOTHING!!!

Fair enough everyone is entitled to his own opinion. If you like loss money you are welcome. We call that in Slovenia Idiot tax... I don't agree with that. Slush has on average about 18 to 20 blocks per day(let say 20). So 20*(25+some fees)*0,02*130$=1300$/day. For that money I do think he should find someone if he is away for 30 days to look at pool. In last 30 days we did see error on everything but webpage... So if you can accept that OK. But I have probably invest much more then you. So if Slush can't find a way to fix his pool even when he knows it has issues in 30 days I really can't stay and loos 3$/day or even 6$/day(depending on a day)...

You had 2 invalid blocks and that is 100% loss on a block.

Yes and no. Depending on the way it happens. If it was found but because of a bug wasn't sent to the network fast enough it is a 100% loss. But then again it could be because the new work wasn't send out fast enough because of the bug and in that case it is hard to say. Pool was working on the wrong block for x amount of time for y blocks. Block could be found in x*y amount of time... So in one case it is 100% loss in other could be anywhere from 0% to infinity(but probably average out to 100% long term)...

So if Slush can't find a way to fix his pool even when he knows it has issues

Have you ever tried to find someone to take care for something very specific, which only you know? Guess what it take longer than for yourself to fix it. If he can't trust his (ex) hosting provider (OVH) how do you expect he can give to someone all the passwords/keys and etc for the pool?

Pool was working on the wrong block for x amount of time for y blocks. Block could be found in x*y amount of time... So in one case it is 100% loss in other could be anywhere from 0% to infinity(but probably average out to 100% long term)...

And this will always be the case for each and every pool ... and once again:

18264   2013-05-28 17:55:43   238386

and from blockchain:

Height   238386 (Main Chain)
Received Time   2013-05-28 17:55:41

We have found it 3 seconds later, but didn't know ... our x time is 3sec and for each and every block and for each and every pool or host on the network there is such time. I would agree if x is 1 minute or so, but come on 3 sec is nothing

Well that is bad planing... You have to have a backup plan... Or find one asap or 30 days. It is 1300$ per day he is not monitoring... For that money I would have a plan what to do in case that I would have to be with my parents that are on death bed. But then again I would also have time to look at my 1300$ moneymaker... So I really have no idea what Slush problems can be that he can't do anything... He was always able to fix it and protect his pool.

Invalids again? OK last time we figure it out when someone posted that data that blockchan info and timestemp doesn't help anything so don't use them as an example... Blockchan receive time can be up to 2 minutes wrong. Look at stratum detected new block in cgminer... Blockchan is not pool. It doesn't need to be updated ASAP... So x can be up to 2 minutes and 3 seconds... And if it would be just one I wouldn't care but there were 2. So just saying everything is fine nothing to see when others pools admins are upgrading there systems to 0.8.2 to remove invalid problem is stupid. But since only Slush can do that it is also pointless to explain what needs to be done to someone who is determent that everything is fine... Even when there are posts from Slush saying yes there is a problem... This is one and as far as I know was not solved since I did see this problem in a log about 4 days ago(look back, I have posted logs since I was told that this can't be). But do fell free to think otherwise.

Also when you are sure that this is fixed can you then please look at the stratums. I think there is also something wrong with them.

I'm experiencing performance problems with some EC2 instances and I'm solving this as well. Sometimes I need to restart pool software on EC2, which causes miners hoping to another IP from DNS roundrobin.

OK I have looked at numbers.
.....

And now answer the question honestly. At least to yourself. Was this work worth 0,001454909 btc??? Even if you have a ready spreadsheet to calc this?
My bet is - you were loosing money while calculating this. And while you did that, I was at the field flying paraglider. And my miner was mining. I did not loose anything. I gained, then gained indistinguishably little less, then gained again.
Or should I go like " Oh! Slush, you bastard, give me my money back!!! Your pool has stolen $0,002 from me today!!!! AAAA!!!1111" And so on for 300 pages... Really?

I will not.

Lucko takes some getting used to but I think he's probably not all that bad - just imagine 'your wife moaning that you never help around the house' - but his posts usually have some point... best not to get too wound up about it - this is a friendly pool.

No worries - if you ever need to switch pool it's less files to edit etc.

[EDIT] e.g. pool downtime or serious problems

I can't believe you're still on this thread trolling and complaining.  I don't click the forum link very often, but when I do, I see Lucko complaining about something...

Slush fixed the invalid problem by proxy of asking a bitcoin-qt developer to fix a bug he encountered.  There are still legitimate invalids..  Two of them!!! (you can count).  It happens, life moves on.  Let me help you with that... because last I checked, you moved on to another pool.

I think you bring bad luck anyway.... with all your negative bullshit.
